My honzo DL is an absolute blast. Perfect geometry. For someone that wants a relatively straight down the middle geo. So happy for Kona, it won’t be my last…
my brother is abicycle mechanic... his view is that you can buy a bike from an online store... but dont expect me to build it or fix anything on it. if you want the service you buy a bike, reeaally simple. and there's cyclists and there is cycle w*&ks... if you want to get ripped off and still be so slow I can lap you - done many a time with a steel frame and a 3kg motorcycle chain lock around my waist while they were in lycra - then go ahead, I'm the one laughing my ass off spending 500 quid on an ebay special that destroys >5 grands worth of bike with what looks like 250lbs of worthless fat sitting on top of it my brother also rejects electric bikes because they arent bicycles, plus dont get humiliated with tiagra... i exclusively ride tiagra, shimano 105 gear ratios are HORRIFIC, they NEVER keep and I destroyed dura ace in 6 months... and if you ride campag... GET YOUR HEAD EXAMINED. again I'll laugh my ass off if you dare come up to me after wasting money on any of that garbage, then I'll smash you on the road and you can wonder why you traded 1000's of pounds for 2-3lbs less weight and still can't get close to me when I'm riding with normal clothes and a motorcycle lock
I get that the juice was probably not worth the squeeze, but I wish you had stuck around. Im a fan of your content.
new videos coming in the next few days, wrapping up editing now!
The problem with bike shop sales is Bad Attitude by the owners. Include me out.
I have loved and ridden bicycle since I was old enough to balance on two wheels. I was never a bike snob though. Recently I have picked up biking again as a more serious hobby instead of just a practical transportation device. I wanted something nicer. What I did not expect was the cost of new decent bikes or the prices that people expect for good used parts and even bikes. I did not expect to find a culture of snobs that look down on you for certain things or parts and that expect new prices for used parts. It's a bike not a car or motorcycle or rocketship. The bike world is out of control.
im a millennnial that's been seriously road cycling for over 10 years. Lately, i've been turned off by the industry as a whole, and started leaning toward more chill disciplines like bikepacking and more casual riding. I love riding bikes, i hate capitalism and arbitrary competition over strava times.
My gravel bike has GRX 400 and 10 speed Tiagra shifter I’m really impressed with them 😊 ❤ Pete
Thanks you, i thought i m the only one thinking like this
The median age of the US population in 2000 was 26 yo and it has going up yearly, - in 2024 it's 38 yo, and the median age projected to be 45.3 in 2100 . Yet oddly, bicycle design is oriented toward a much younger age. What could possibly go wrong? As an elderly person, I prefer road bikes for touring. Period. I'd never go off road or mountain biking at my age. Even when I was younger, trail riding was disturbingly bone rattling, and the thought of breaking down far off road was not inspiring. E-bikes are great, but they are seemingly made for off road use so are absurdly heavy and waste the energy when used for bike touring and therefore lack range. I'd love to buy a new bike, but nothing's really well designed for my needs.
Did my dude just say Raphia?
"Who is this for"? EXACTLY!!! Companies like Rivendell still get it. Companies like Trek have lost it.
I don’t go to shops, I prefer to buy the tools and learn to do it myself, I had experiences with shops nearby that treated my like shit, like they are doing me a favor by talking to me, there is a sense of “superiority” with some shops and people in the sport and to be honest this is driving people away.
For that price I rather buy a decent Toyota FJCRUISER
I am so proud of my 98 schwinn LeTour my fixie Raleigh Rush and my 2006 Specialized StumpJumper with their upgrades respectively.
It's for techies that live with their parents and don't pay mortgages
I was in my local bike shop yesterday and they didn't have a single bike under $1.5K. That isn't attainable for most people.
are those Bontrager XXX wheels in the background? are you sellin ?:D
yes and go find yer own lol seriously though, they are pretty great wheels. They'll be featured in a build video soon going on a 2004 Trek 1500.
In 2012, I bought a Canadian made Argon18 Triathlon bike with Dura Ace, 3T cockpit, ZIPP disc and FFWD wheels... that cost $14K. Have to go to specific shop because local bike shop don't have it. However, I get all my fixed gear at a local bike shop
And when you buy your $15k bike you never want to ride it anywhere because someone will try to steal it. The local Ironman just wrapped up and the tribikes disappeared from the roads. I asked one of the competitors why I don't see folks practicing on their bikes, they don't want to get assaulted and mugged.
I told my local bike shop, "Price doesn't matter. I just want these brand new GT 20" wheels to lose their 1/4" radial hub wobble.". 6 weeks.... the only thing they did to my wheels was zip tie them together and hang them on a rack next to the front door. I am not a fan of my brand new wheels scratching each other as they sit in the most steal-able spot in the store for a month and a half. I spent $1,800 throwing parts at that $850 bike. Last year I did a Pretty Woman thing and rolled all their missed money into their store. They still didn't take that as a sign to support BMX. If local shops want to be so elitist, they deserve to fall out of business.
I remember when cycling used to be a blue collar sport.
I still ride my aluminum Tiagra Lemond Reno with mechanical shifting that I bought 20 years ago. Never felt inferior rolling up to the riders with the latest greatest bikes. I enjoy cycling, and this bike has served me well over the years. Never thought about buying a new road bike. Oh and if your wondering, it cost me $800 at a discount from my local bike shop.
What wheels are good for gravel bikes
I just got into the sport recently to try and do triathlons. I came from running that is as bare bones as a sport can get and was lucky enough that my dad had an old racing bike that I was able to use. But my god was I not prepared for cost of EVERYTHING. went to a bike shop and the cost of a bib ALONE was the same as all my running clothes (and we're talking Nike, new balance, name brands). Somehow the workers at the bike shop couldn't understand at all when I tried explaining how overpriced everything seemed. I hope it changes, cause I'd love to get more into riding, but it genuinely does feel so much more gatekept as opposed to sports like running.
What's the reason for me to buy something at lbs if its 2 times cheaper in the internet with shipping from other country? Why would I support that overpriced place with shitty mechanics.
fuck them, my next bike will be totally made from aliexpress chinese parts
Cycling has become elitist, I see it every weekend. I'm guilty of getting caught up in getting the latest models and kit but I realized it's all a bunch of marketing BS and everything is the same. So, I've sold off most of my modern carbon bikes and stuck to two metal frames that I really love to ride, that are classic by design, not aero or light, but are just so fun to ride. I don't buy cycling kits anymore, I just where what I want. The fact that so many buy into the marketing allows the industry to continue to ask for these prices. Whether we continue to pay them is another thing, but there are some who will just to have the latest greatest, even though we don't need it. If you're not racing, you don't need a $14k race bike, who cares if you get to the coffee shop faster. The point is to ride your bike, not race to be seen off of it. NeoPro has some nice kit at decent prices and the quality is not lacking.
Good news: There’s a setting in game to change your gearing and shift pattern. I got one because three of us in the house ride and it’s easier to move the seat than bringing bikes inside and swapping them. So far so good. Complaints: - can’t adjust the crank arm length nor replace the cranks - wish the hoods had rubber or a grippier texture. Bummer to have to wear gloves indoors. - no way to connect it to the kicker climb or any moving trainer bases - stock seat isn’t great - front wheel stand only has one centered point of contact instead of two means it’s a bit wobbly. - chain tensioner is noisier than I expected Having to pay $700 for just a heavy ass steel tube frame with game controllers attached with no wheels or components and all of the above issues seems a bit steep. Probably would have been happier at $400.
Trek stores work well, I buy, they sell, I wear, they fix, I like, they manufacture. Quit complaining you ungrateful fool.
It's just a bike. It's not supposed to be that good.
A 2025 Honda 600rr (121 HP) is $12,000 a pro bike, won at more tracks than most
Sa,e as the ski industry. Greed.
Typical, for most people cycling has nothing to do with sports, if the cycling sports industry collapses I won't shed a tear. A bicycle is simply an object of use, for your convenience, not a symbol of status or sportiness. Now also cycled to Breda (Netherlands) on my Batavus, no sport, just nice and easy.
They have created 300 versions of the same shit and every manufacturer is makes 25 versions of each model. It is IDIOTIC. Also - the younger generation DOESN'T CARE and also ask yourself who can afford to ride bikes and who has the TIME to do it when you have two/three generations (everyone EXCEPT the fucking BOOMERS) working 2 or 3 jobs just to pay RENT. DUH.
I just bought one for the convenience and the ability to share one bike with my wife, daughter and self. Pretty excited for it and thrilled my road bike will be freed up for good weather days.
I always ride alone, and I usually do it in the early hours of the morning, when people are asleep. Keep rowing, slaves.
Same with a 160$ pair of pants. Jesus. $60 jeans are already too much
I used to be a roady but was away from cycling for a while due to a shoulder injury. Getting back into it I was looking for a bike with an upright seating position which was trail friendly. I got a 1980's vintage mountain bike for free. I spent about $200 upgrading to V brakes, a new seat, chain and seven speed cassette. I love it. Rugid, simple reliable and the parts are inexpensive. I have no need to keep up with the latest gadgets. The pleasure it gives me riding local trails is huge. When someone looks down their nose at me I lagh.
Is the frame built for tall people? Over 6’???
Neo pro kits are awesome
Got a video coming this week all about them!
You don't have to spend a lot to enjoy bikes and gain fitness (the best part of riding). But when you start racing anything, bikes, cars, etc, then the sky's the limit when it comes to spending money.
I live in an urban area and day riding got to be too much. Cars decided I was in their way, and intersections were a nightmare. This Fall I decided to try night riding. I'm retired and at 11:30PM I have the roads to myself. I ride a Raleigh Supercourse with Huret components, and lots of the new internet lights that are very bright.
Totally agree about ProBikeKit. They were amazing. 😢
You could get a pair of Vittoria Corsa’s for cheaper than a single one on every other site. Granted, prices that low were probably their downfall, but still.
One time they shipped an order to me a day late, it still got here in like 3 days from Manchester England to North Texas but they included a hand written apology and a gift card. They were so great.
@@dobbscycleworks I'm about to cry reading your experience with them. God it hurts that PBK is gone. I ordered twice premium hoops (Fulcrums) from them, and both times it was two business days. At great prices.
@@dobbscycleworks They probably had very thin margins to make money from, with the pricing they had. I am assuming they bought brand name overstock or prior year and were able to offer close-out pricing. But there was a lot of care put into their customer service experience. The web site was magnificent. 😢
I cycled across the USA 4,000+ miles for the 2011 summer on a $1,100 Giant Defy 2 with 2x9 Tiagra components. It never let me down. Changed tires once and brakes twice. That's it.
The problem is every industry now caters to the top 10% of consumers. The level of wealth inequality that has been created means they have about twice the spending power as the bottom 90%. 40 years ago there wasn’t nearly as much of a disparity in price between basic and luxury versions of the same thing. A rich persons house or car might have been 3-4 times what a middle class Americans was. Now it’s 20-30 times more expensive. It’s how we get 10k guitars and mountain bikes. It’s why you can now pay thousands to have someone escort your rich ass around Disneyland to skip the lines. The privileged are attempting to create a more luxurious parallel society where they can escape the common folk.
Cycling is too simple. You can do it with a Walmart bike and dollar General shoes. That’s why you’re not “legit” unless you’re thousands in the hole. Can’t be “serious” rocking level one gear I suppose 😂
I'm a 43 year old who does pretty damn well as an amateur racer with a 2016 Allez I got on facebook for $600
I bought one -It increased my speed by 2mph on my indoor trainer😂
Stop saying "Rayfia". 🤦
Ten years ago I saw an invoice from a Taiwanese carbon composite manufacturer to a major cycle brand for a carbon frame and fork set, an invoice that had been mistakenly left in the box. The carbon frame and fork set retailed for $1300, the invoice which presumably included a profit for the Taiwanese business was $20 for the frame and $5 for the forks.
