Cyclops SLx G2 ACSS: Good, But (probably) Not For You.

How does this optic hold up after over 1000 rounds, over 5mo.
TLDR: It's a good optic, great even. But fundamentally it's a niche optic, and it's important to understand what it excels at, and what it doesn't.

If we all pretend to like prism optics, maybe Leupold will bring back the HAMR.
that would be the best timeline.
But it's clear we are living the in the worst.

@@BrassFacts I see that nothing escapes you.
@@Hoplopfheil oooh, well played.
@@BrassFacts don’t diss the M5xi line
Carry the 3x on my patrol rifle shoot it with both eyes open it is great.
Living in the northern frozen tundra, I do value the etched reticle a lot because of the cold killing batteries. Not a huge deal for a day at the range, but it gives peace of mind that if the optic is left out in the cold it will still have a reticle.
That is definitely one of the cool things about prism optics. I live in a pretty moderate climate, so we don't get around freezing all that often, but it's still good to know your sight can work with or without batteries
Or snow washout. I’m in AK, I feel your concerns haha
Agreed. Shooting at 71* N kills batteries rapidly.
I live in NY and it gets very cold, I’ve never had any issues with Aimpoints ever
@@charlieb308 fair enough. I haven't had a dot go dead on me from cold either, but I've had other batteries fail on me in the cold and I don't want to find out the hard way. I have an extra dot, I should try see if I can kill a dot this winter by just leaving it on my deck.
I also think it’s a good optic for someone who has lots of guns and would like to have a reasonable cost way of ensuring they will all be ready to go when needed. Plus the range finding marks are nice.
I was on the fence getting this. You showed the eyebox up close and far. I was impressed. I want to clean up the top rail of back up sights and the current red dot. Dont want any magnification so this was perfect at the price point. I can use the reticle illuminated or not. Well, I just ordered the green illuminated one.
You like it still?
@@thews9237since you did not get a response from OP I will respond, I also have the green illuminated version of this, I run it more as a suedo red dot with the sole added benefit of the reticle being etched and not a projected light, so if a situation arose where I needed it and the battery was dead I wouldn’t be SOL, I probably have 200-300 ish rounds on it so far and can get about a 2-3 inch group at 200 yards running green tips. 1-2 inch running 55gr. The 1x is completely fine and I’m still happy with the purchase. Of course Primary arms is always putting things on sale so might as well wait for a sale if you have the time and haven’t already satisfied your optic needs in the 9 months since you commented. Hope that helps
I have one of these on a .300 BO 10.5. The ACSS reticle is great at providing aiming points when switching between supers and subs, and changing up between short, and longer range. Once you've got the hashmarks down for the loads, it's pretty fast and intuitive to shoot without a bunch of hold anxiety. The best pro for prisms is still when the electricity stops, for the size factor versus LPVO's.

F'ing thank you for being one of the few that actually do a follow up of their initial review of whatever gear it is they're reviewing. Kudos to you and excellent breakdown of the good and the bad of the optic.
thanks! I try.
Dude, that’s a great review video. Informative with lots of cool B-roll. Great job. I’ve recently bought two of these PSA optics and I’m impressed as hell.
Thanks for the review! I have one of these and I like it. I’m actually faster and more accurate with it than a micro red dot. I don’t like the chevron and think a dot would be better, for this form factor, but that’s my opinion. With that said, I’m making the switch to LPVO’s. But I do like the handiness, weight, size, and general form factor of this and would lean towards it over a red dot, unless NVGs became a consideration. I like your channel. Keep up the good work!
thanks man! It for sure has it's niche. Would be really cool on a lever gun... maybe.
I took a chance getting it when it first came out and being a first time Primary arms costumer. Very pleased with mine, its day time bright works well at night and I love that if the battery goes dead i still can use it. Like hearing your opinion on the optic
I’m curious. Can you use this with a magnifier?
For the shooting you were doing with the PDW, the red dot is going to be a better fit rather than an ACSS reticle optic. The whole point with the ACSS reticle is for the ability with 5.56, 7.62x39 or whatever with a carbine is that you have the stadia hashes to adjust fire on various distances and such. I've had the first gen Cyclops on my AK for a few years now and with it positioned further forward on an RS Regulate receiver mount you get a better working situation rather than crowded up on the optic on the PDW because you have such little room. The chevron situation you were describing here isn't an issue... With your pdw, you'd probably be best served with a 100 yd zero since 9mm is fairly flat shooting out to that distance so that would eliminate your holdover problem and occluding your target. In general red dots and prism optics on carbine rifles are best utilized further out than 'scope distance' because when you're in CQB ranges, 25 yds and in, you've got both eyes open rather than just the one eye open you'd use for a magnified scope.
This is the first video I've seen of yours and I liked it. I'm subbing. Bonus points for having your doggo in it!
Thanks for doing the parallax testing that was one of my main concerns. And to me not relying on battery is a big deal. I’m heavily looking at this optic. Really that’s the only reason I’m looking at it otherwise I’d probably be I’ll buy a hollosun 507c. But what you said makes perfect sense it’s almost a red dot sight. The Chevron may take some getting used to. I have never shot with one before. Appreciate the honest video.
Nah man, get the holosun 403R. A bit cheaper, more reliable and will have much better battery life. Plus the disks for adjusting zero is always nice
Hello sir, I just subscribed here and followed on IG after watching a handful of your videos this evening. I’ve been looking at this optic, thanks for this review I’m sold on it now, especially about the astigmatism benefits
Congratulations on your growth. You deserve it bc you put out a quality product.
Thanks for the review, good info we need to know. I used to have astigmatism, then had Lasik surgery, now I need reading glasses and I think some of the astigmatism is coming back. Point is, I'm have Aimpoints and two Holosun's with the ACSS reticle. I can use the Aimpoint's dot, but I can't see the tip of the chevron well enough to be precise anymore. I could try a magnifier, but am too lazy to remove that LMT rear sight, and then have to maybe re-zero.
It not needing a battery is a fantastic thing for a truck gun. Massive advantage. Also a stash gun. But yeah I got an AEMS or T2 for night vision passive after your review on the AEMS
What's more durable, this or the t2.
Also your thoughts on the vortex spitfire
Interesting take on the chevron. Yeah lol, count me in that group of defective Earth creatures... Having astig, the chevron is almost a necessity for me, but strictly employed with a battle zero (50/200) and as a 'defensive' optic only ....because yeah... ranging does get a little wonky with no magnification/chevron. I also surprisingly didn't find the 1 MOA adjustments to be an issue either....because again, this is an MPBR/BZO-style optic only for me. Oh and I do not use with NODs.
Anyway, great vid thanks - and extra credit for effective UoD (Use of Dog)
You can use a magnifier behind this.
@@gunblasterr Is the gen2 bigger?
I pre-order my G2 in July. To learn their is a noticeable degradation of red illumination in the horse shoe. Seems to be a known issue, but I hold my peace and waited for the green version. Guess What.. It doesn’t seem to be present here. And what I love about PrimaryArms is that they will honor their satisfaction warranty. They don’t play around with hoops and loops.

Dude:. I love your ever poignant, informative (way informative!) and humor sprinkled reviews with a dash of tasty irony..👍
Great review and I appreciate the honesty. I have a slight astigmatism so red dots are still doable. But I do love the concept.
At least your review is stated as an opinion piece. That is a fair way to do a review. As always YMMV. I find the etched reticle way more useful than the dots with my eyes.
I have two of these optics and I love them. I've ordered another one to put on my 308 hunting rifle.
Thanks man! I have an astigmatism. I have been thinking about this on my shotguns, I hunt deer and turkeys. I pew pew with an Eotech and without corrective eyewear I see the plume big time. Just subscribed 👍
Exact optic (PA Cyclops G2 1x micro-prism) I have been considering to buy next… or PA’s MD-25 red dot. Great review.
Bought one and put it on a home defense AR pistol.
Having a slight astigmatism and wearing glasses is it's nitch.
Grab and go..... Might not have time to grab the glasses and having dioppler adjustment it's good to go quickly.
Auto on is good, but I run a med brightness white light....so the etched redical is visible without it.
I can use red dots with the correction in my glasses....but without them it's not the best option
Good honest assessment of pros and cons.
I find it a good compromise for this situation.

Great review!! I will probably buy this optic because it is a Prism, light weight and I have astigmatism this is getting worse with age.
I love mine, keep in mind though make sure that if mounting on ak, then mount closer to your face. The closer the better. It works great mounted anywhere above the dust cover. It’s extremely bright for the money you pay too. Best 250 I’ve spent
I’m looking to add it to my M70 with a railed dust cover. And, adding a 3x magnifier. What do you think?
Was looking at one for a uspsa pcc set up, that bit about spinners being tough disqualified for that purpose. Good review!
Yes, I like horseshoe which works great on IPSC and IDPA targets
Leaving comment to support the channel. I own Cyclops Gen2 green. Tried it on X95 and then moved to Ruger PCC which I use more. Works great. Thinking about bying Gemini as well.
I’m curious if you’ve tried this in conjunction with their 3x Micro Magnifier.
Been curious about this but weary because I have one of their 1-8's that has terrible 1x that I'm really unhappy with. But I see anywhere from 3-6 different dots when I look into a RDS and I have to get a buddy to zero them for me. But I also want to get into night vision down the line.
This seems like a good fit. The 1x here is good.
You can adjust the diopter for nv if you *really* need to.

Dude thank you, seriously. This was on my short list for my pdw.
Seems like it'd be handy on a Cx4 or equivalent PCC for home defense you can just slap on and forget about batteries wise. Will probably keep going for RDS on the AR tho, thanks for helping me decide
Great review as always, even though you killed another buy from my wish list..which may be part of your crusade to keep us all from buying stupid shit and spend it on ammo instead. best style reticle ir RDS to use with and without a magnifer???? circle dot? ACSS? OR Just a fine 2moa ?
I've gotten used to the starburst. As long as I've shot with the optic I can learn where the red dot is located in that particular burst. Very annoying but I can do it. Just ordered the full size Cyclops(because of a sale price). I can't wait.
When I shoot my buddie's AK with an MRO the starburst just sucks. I can use it, but not for anything over like 50yds. The slx1x has been a game changer for me! I'll see how it works for me under night vision as I gradually work up to acquiring everything
Similar issue to using NODs but a magnifier won't work for some people with a bad enough astigmatism. I have mine adjusted all the way "in" for my shit vision and I can't get a magnifier to focus to that setting. The magnifier only starts to work at a point where the sight becomes blurry for me without the magnifier in place.
Hey man subbed. I like the channel great vid good production quality 👌
welcome aboard man
Good video. I have 3 holosun red dots, one romeo and this prism. It's on a KS-47 10.5 upper, the gun and red dot is more of a back up setup. The only reason I got it is because of the etched reticle. I think that's the best place for that prism. On a rifle that you know you won't be making 300+ yards shots and it's just a good backup for your other red dots. Just my 2 cents.
I totally agree with you. I bought mine for my cmmg banshee with 8" upper. I bought the green. This is a CQB prism scope. Most fire fights are going to be less than 100 yds and more likely than not less than 50. I had a Holosun 512C on it but I didnt like the sight picture with my astigmatism. I could shoot it well but the flares aggravated me. The Banshee is my go to with a Glock side arm. One type of round, one type of magazine.
@@mlone7 Just ordered a PWS ×39 upper( 11" barrel). Had the 1.5-4 Leopold (green fire dot on my 16" PWS)
I have been looking at the very model you mentioned. Does the green stay visible in bright sunlight?
So without an astigmatism and a precise 2 MOA dot with .5 moa adjustments, I shouldn't need an ACSS RETICLE RDS with knowing my holds and a magnifier especially... For shooting out to 300m ?
Have you compared the agog ta45? Similar style but 1.5 power.
Awesome, good stuff. Thank you!
Your channel is awesome bro!
Thanks for the critique. I was looking at this or the 3x version thats yet to be released, to mount on my 7.62x39. I have significant astigmatism so Ive been looking at some of these prism optics. However, when a clerk at the gunstore showed me a compM5, the dot looked really nice for me. Holosuns and even eotech reticles are very jittery or smeared at the same time. However Im of the opinion that a combat rifle should have a magnified optic, and an aimpoint + magnifier + the picatinny side rail and low mounts start to get in on ounces, whereas the PA 3x microprism is like 5oz + a direct mount ak side rail. This optic seems like a great package but all the reviews on youtube are just dudes sitting on their truck bed, taking it out the box and just stating the specs sheet. I appreciate that youve put in some real world use into your review.
I try to spend a decent amount of time behind most things I review.
90% of the review can be done in two weeks and 200 rounds. but that last 10% takes several months at least.
I was waiting for the 3x as well but when the 3x magnifier came out I figured whoever at PA that told me about it had misspoken. I then got the Glx 2x instead and am still ruminating on how appropriate it is for me and my application. Not sure what my application it though. I suppose I will know it when I see it.
Am I the only one who instantly thought I was playing GTA 5 when the intro music started??? Good video. Love your channel. Can definitely tell you watch/watched NutnFancy. I mean that in a good way, no hate intended. Keep ‘em coming. 🙂
i like optics like this (or my bushnell lil'p) for a buddy rifle that i can setup and forget, and not have to worry about the batteries.
I dont get the argument of having to focus the diopter to the NV. I have done this and it works great and once i gomback to daylight shooting the optic looks the same. So once its adjusted it basically set. This just may be my luck of the draw but i have seen others with the same experiences.
I don't have NV. Never needed to readjust diopter.
I have one of these and really like it. Disappointed that it won’t work with NV but I don’t have a setup yet anyway. I was curious if you had considered trying the Gemini reticle on this optic? Or is that the one you’re using?
I have not tried that reticle.
Can you use a magnifier with this?
Ok after rewatching this video from about a week ago you have convinced me in going with the x3 prism
I would give this more consideration if it was going on a sbr
I have a pretty bad astigmatism. Thank you for adding value to my purchasing decision.
Good stuff! Subbed!!
I Like how you always shot with your backpack 🎒
How would you compare or rate this to the sig Romeo 5? I have the XDR version, which has the eotech-ish reticle.
Just got one today and I 100% like my xdr more.
Best review of this thing ever. I havent read the book, but the EMP concerns are in fact the reason for me to consider a prism 1x
Fun fact a metal gun cabnet theoretically would be one … i use an agilite gun safe
So compared to its 3x brother it has longer eye relief, a little less weight and a different reticle without a BDC. For a 5.56 or .300 AAC I think I’ll go with the 3x version. This looks interesting for PCCs though.
Thanks for the review. I was trying to decide between this and a red dot on my first AR-15. I think I'll go with a red dot.
Hopefully you read this, those of use who deployed with NV and focusable scopes would make paint dot or scratch lines. 1 set for day, 1 set for night. Then all you do is turn the focus ring to the dot for the time of day/ lighting conditions. It's dam near instantaneous. Hopefully this imparts some knowledge to your skillset and make you a better shooter!
Thank you for this tip.
Thanks for sharing. I appreciate you candor. I may be a buy based on your analysis.

@@BrassFacts Drive on... you have good instincts.
I really want to know if this works with night vision and magnification
Wow; really impressed with the intro 👍
thanks, I spent way to fucking long on it.
@@BrassFacts I can tell!
I've been wanting to get one of these after realizing just how bad my astigmatism is. The other day I shot a 6" group at 50 yards with a red dot on a 16" gun that I know is capable of 1moa. Then I immediately shot a 1.5" group at 50 yards with a 10.5" BRN-180 using iron sights. A 6" group at 50 yards is not acceptable in my opinion.
I bought a Bushnell TRS-25 over 10 years ago and that's the only red dot I had for a long time. I had noticed that the dot was wonky looking, but I thought it was just the optic. It started to look worse and worse over the years until I said fuck it and bought a P.A. SLx red dot. Turns out my old optic wasn't the problem. My eyes are just that bad.
I also recently bought a P.A. 1-8x LPVO and I love the chevron reticle. The etched chevron really solves my problem so I think I may go ahead and purchase the 1x prism. I do have night vision, but I don't do a whole lot of passive aiming. I either mount it to the gun or I use I.R. lasers and shoot from a low ready position. Thanks for the review.
yeah that's fair. TBH I'm not that into passive aiming either. But many people are. Astigmatism is weird. Some optics are good, some are bad.
Great review
the Chevron on the gen 1 is incredibly tiny. There were complaints about it
The ACSS is my favorite as I have used the ACOG since it was issued
Great info...was about to get one...will re-evaluate
Great for astigmatism. Also it has diopter correction, so I don't need to use my prescription glasses to see the rather clear.
I came here for doge, stayed for review. Excellent intro and review. Peterson out!
Came here for the dog, stayed for the dog, subbed for the dog.
Is that a full 2" too high of an optic for the platform?
Are you sure it has a shake awake? Considering buying this and I don't see shakeawake advertised.
Is this light enough to attach to a pistol slide that was custom cut to mount ACOG style optics? The eyebox looks big enough to theoretically allow that type of usage
I would not do it. But you can mount it on shotgun
How does this thing compare to an mro as far as fish bowl look with both eyes open?
I'm a member of the ACSS cult, it let me hit out to 500-600yd with 11in 556, chevron for 6in steel at 100ish and donut for cqb. 1-6ffp or 1-8ffp platinum are my favorite ones
yeah it's a fine reticule, if you see my previous video, I'm hitting out to 600 yards with a BDC as well.
I just like the poke fun at the ACSS because that's all it is, a BDC with a doughnut. Which is hardly new.
@@BrassFacts It doesnt have to be new (nobody from PA is pretending it is). It just has to work and should be available with various platform options which it does.
@@XDWX for sure. But the fans think it's revolutionary. and won't stop bragging about it. Just poking fun. Most companies don't have their reticle name in their product title.
@@BrassFacts Well it would be pretty dumb to put "Dot" on the name of a red dot sight so thats pretty obvious. Its to distinguish from other standard red dots just like "LVPO" or Trijicon ACOG BAC (Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight Binden Aiming Concept). Instead they all come up with dumb tacti-cool names instead like "Viper" and "ACRO". Pretty much all scopes or optics with some kind of unique reticle puts it in the name. the bottom of the chevron.
What’s the purpose of including the night shots if you are using a laser?
b roll.
really appreciated the autistic in depth detailed review and gratuitous dog footage. i agree the astigmatism thing is a bit overblown. people lose sight of the purpose of a RDS. its meant to be a generalized aiming point for close range targets. i bought this slx site recently as it was on a good sale for just under $200 and now im wishing i had gotten the magnified version instead. havent actually used it yet though so ill give it a fair test at the range to really judge it but i think after watching your video ill come to the same conclusion and just stick to the RDS for my home defense carbine.
Wish you would have spent more time discussing the benefits of one of the main features of the optic, that of the etched reticle.
A DIY Tarsier Eclipse using a flip cap and iris off amazon solves the issue of mismatched focal planes under night vision.
I appreciate this video. Came here to find out what it looked like under night vision. Found out. Not going to buy it. That eye box is crazy though. I looked through one in the store recently and the eyebox is legit crazy awesome.
in fairness you can focus it to the NV device. But the focus adjust is wicked tight.
but by that logic all LPVOs work under NV.
It looks to me like it could be a really nice option for small game hunting with a .22 or air rifle, since it could be really fast on nearby game, like a red dot, but give you some objective holdovers, making it much easier to use at a longer range, for a .22, than a red dot.
I like the thought (one of these would be adorable on a 10/22) but the 1 MOA/click adjustment would kind of bite you on that application
@@FMDad-dm5qo Yeah, that's less than ideal
Go for their 22lr specific 1-6x
It was created for CQB, not small game and 22. You can find better suited scopes for your purpose for less money IMHO
Could this be mounted on an AR15 carry handle?
yeah
i know im a poor, but ive seen many videos lately of budget optics working with night vision and how well they do/dont. Are NODs really that common now that even the working man has no problem acquiring them?. i like the comment about the gameboy under the bed sheets, that really has me wondering if thats the cause, as well as sitting close to the TV, to why so many people under 35 have an astigmatism problem. mine is pretty bad.
Great video. Good review. Be careful you don't get swatted pointing the gun around in a populated area. You never know who's watching and from where. Nonetheless it was very useful seeing the retical against different backgrounds.

@@jonathanwick1265 For you, I'll do 500.
While I agree this fills a niche role, I'm surprised the Chevron caused you that many issues. I've done extensive shooting red dots and acogs with the acss reticle and never had an issue with it covering too much of the target. Albeit I don't usually shoot on reduced sized targets past 300, but on full size torso/silhouettes out to 500 it's been fine as at that point I'm using the BDC. Personally I found it easier to get tighter and more precise shot groups/placement with the chevron/horseshoe Chevron acss over the horseshoe dot acss, as did most shooters that I coached.
issue is probably a strong word.
But it's very opinion based.
I have one of these on my hunting rifle. Its great. You can turn on illumination at dawn and dusk, and leave it off while the suns out.
I do agree about the chevron though.
Also great for nighttime home defense as it won't wash out if you use a weapons light.
If you are using a Red Dot sight then just close your front cap.
This allows you have the dot on a lower setting for it to be more tight, as well as it never washing out. And as long as you're shooting with both eyes open it will never be a problem, you'll never notice.
Just a pro tip.
Questions answered! Thanks
I'm curious how this compares to a 1.5x ACOG, besides the significant price difference.
quite favorably
ACSS reticle is too tiny in the acog
Can you get into why focusing an optic to nods is dumb af? Nice review btw
nods to optic: you can't see with your NV device without the optic.
optic to nods: the optic is useless if you go white light (2nd most likely use case for it after passive aiming).
When red dots don't have both of these issues, it's hard to claim the cyclops is "NV ready". when it's far worse vs most LPVOs under NV.
Love the prisms because of my astigmatism
Excellent books btw
I own one. Pretty sure I'll be swapping it for a red dot, but...will probably keep this around.
