The Sig MSR 1-6x might be the contender for best budget LPVO at this time.
Don't buy the 1-10x MSR please.

The RT6 also gets brought up a lot:
I think it's great, but has tint, and a worse reticle (also doesn't come with a mount)
In all other regards it's very similar, and might have a better 1x.
The Primary Arms 1-6x SFP did not treat me well at all. I might have gotten a bad one.
The RT-6 on the Jump Gun works fine, but I'm more annoyed that if you put your head in the wrong place the illuminated reticle can appear in the blackness of the eyebox and it takes a bit of getting used to in order to find the sweet spot. Tint isn't awful, 1x is probably 1.1ish I'd guess. Reticle I don't know enough about to really say one way or another; I get to use it at ~400yrds again tomorrow. Otherwise it's fine; mine's on an Aero lightweight mount. But yes it's going to run you about another...hundred ish dollars depending on mounts and sales. Just chipping in a two cents.
I'm a big RT-6 fan. I have a broad range of LPVOs including a Swarovski. For the money the RT6 IMO is almost impossible to beat . Bass Pro has them with the PEPR mount for around $350 regularly
Just looked. Bass Pro has the RT6 with mount for $369.99 right now. Up $20 from last year...damn JoeFlation
Also of course my 2 cents is more like 1 cent because I think the best scope I've ever shot through is a misc. Leupold on one of my dad's rifles he got from someone; my other true scope is a Bushnell Trophy 3-9 because that's what my LGS had when I had to replace the 336's creaking terrible old scope after I bought it.
link to the pack?
Good to see optics reviews from people who actually use them for what they're intended for. I see way too many reviewers just do flat range shooting and then say "it's great, look how many features it has!"
Hop's and your content has talked me out of buying a few different products that I thought were cool because of the features on the box. I'd be interested to eventually see a list of all the scopes you recommend in the different price tiers (sub 500, 500-800, 800-1000, etc).
Me too!
Ditto
That would be cool.

Good question!
I got the Sig MSR lpvo since I didn’t want to commit to a much more expensive scope if I didn’t like the 1-6x. I really like the low barrier of entry and decent quality.
Yes, if it leaves you wanting, the Vortex Viper PST 1-6 is the next level up. Will not dissappoint.
For how much? I'm seeing just around $490 for them
@@jonsnow9700you can get them for around $250 with the mount right now.

Flannel Daddy. Geez...get it right. 😂
Here is the problem with guntubers. As they go up in value and features, everything less becomes budget. Like driving a Ferrari, now you compare everything after that to a Ferrari. Can you get to the same place, same destination, accomplish the same outcome on a lesser vehicle than a Ferrari? Of course you can, but will it feel the same? No, does it make it have less ability to accomplish what you need from it? No, it doesn't. I'm at the point of taking everything from a guntubers mouth with a grain of salt. When you spoil yourself, you create the illusion that anything less is just not good enough. It isn't the equipment you use it is who is using it.
I agree with you 💯 that’s why I stopped watching the big guntuber channels because they seemed to have lost touch with the average shooter who doesn’t have unlimited access and money lol
I was having the same thoughts watching the video. I have some nice optics and some cheaper ones, they all work fine with some being nicer with quality of life stuff or durability
I totally get where you’re coming from, but Glass is not one those things where you want to skimp. And no, $300 optics are not as useful as $600 or $900 optics. Especially once you step away from a flat range and actually have to find your target, in various lighting conditions and degrees of concealment/lighting.
I feel you I’m only here cause I got this lpvo in my cart and I’m excited

Great info! We run an LPVO course and have students show up with a variety of optics. We talk about a lot of things you bring up in this video. Keep putting out great content. Thank you.
What would you recommend ?
@@Kelvin-H. Great question, but there are several out there that would meet our requirements for a typical M4 carbine. Just about any reputable scope company that makes an LPVO that has the following:
-1x6 Power
-Second Focal Plane - SFP
-ACSS BDC reticle
That being said, if your requirements are different, then you may opt for different options. First Focal Plane - FFP typically has better glass quality and is more accurate at distances, but you compromise your use of the LPVO at CQB distances. There are always going to be exceptions as an example we love the Vortex Razor, but it tends to be too much scope for the average M4 along with the Eotech Vudu. We've only seen those in FFP, but would love to see them as SFP options.
In no particular order we'd recommend the following with SFP:
-Sig MSR 1-6
-PA SLx 1-6
-Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6
-Riton 5 TACTIX 1-6
Of those listed, we have found the Vortex to be the least expensive. There are others out there, but our experiences have been limited to the above.
Thanks@@GreenOpsInc
This is spot on! I actually picked up this scope + mount for 200 bucks including tax & shipping on an open box deal. It immediately replaced my PA 1-6X SFP. I find the Sig far easier to manage in 1x and had far more manageable parallax when using 4to6x. I love the lines in the optic window that draw your eye to the center even in lower light situations.
What's the name of the scope?
@@blw4089 Same as the one in the video, sig msr 1-6x
@@TerminalM193 yup. Thank you.
Just watched the other video you and hop put up about why x10 LPVOs are a terrible idea and it really opened my eyes. Not only it will perform poorly at low light situations and unorthodox positions, it will cause a lot of distortion at 1x.
1-6X for the win.

SIG's budget red dot Romeo 5 is actually pretty great too. Seen it for $100. They got to be losing money on their budget optics to get you into the brand.
They are not losing money.
Just make sure not to buy one from Amazon or eBay. There are a ton of counterfeit Romeo5s out there. Probably where most of the hate for them comes from
Even the MSR red dot, which can be had for around $70 is good for what it is. I was shocked by the clarity for the price.
Ah my poor naive little ericks... Lol... For example it probably costs Glock like $125 to make a pistol. So even if they sold it at $250 they still wouldn't be losing money. A lot of the stuff we think is expensive and hard to make is actually rather cheap and easy to mass manufacture.
They aren’t losing money. They pay next to nothing for labor when they get it from slave labor in China.
Your instincts for where to put the camera are obviously good. The wide shot of you tracking the cliff top and shooting is super good. Wish it was straighter, but man is that a good use of space. The very next shot is something I also rarely see anyone try, a PVO behind the optic while mounted on the rifle. This is incredibly useful, even with the YT compression. It sucks being your own cameraman, but in the end it makes you the only one to blame for when it’s done badly, but also the only person who gets the credit for when it’s going well. This video is good, please keep pushing the visuals on these videos. The difference is becoming noticeable.
I had a very lightweight, no adjustable mini tripod. I harvested off of a cellphone stand. Sadly I couldn't straighten the picture.
and thanks. Appreciate it, it's a lot of work to frame things.
The pst 1-6 I own has been really great so far especially compared to other poverty glass. Totally agree that clarity and light transmission is more important than some "features". The best feature is functionality.
My mount came Loose and I had to send mine back after it moved the red dot
300-400 being bottem end budjet is wild these days.
I agree on the engagement distance due to glass clarity. I’m still kind of just starting out but on my trips out when I go to 500+ yards it’s rough. 400 yards and below it’s fine but 500+ it shows it’s price tag haha but I love the reticle. Reticle design and price point combined with the included mount, it’s a good combo.
Could you feasibly stretch it out to 500 in a pinch? Or at least hit passable at that range?
@@cyphermasq7870 absolutely. You could take it to 600-700 with the proper skills and practice. Maybe a like dope card or ballistic calculator for assistance.
I pretty much agree with all of your points. Nonetheless, I find this scope to be a quite useable on my 16" 300AAC rifle, as it will never be called upon to make shots beyond 150 yards. At the $300 price point, this scope completes a perfectly capable hog gun package, with acceptable optics at the expected ranges.
As always, thanks much for sharing.
Steve
I own this scope and it’s definitely serviceable. I would still suggest stepping it up to the vortex pst gen II for not a whole lot more. I own both and there’s no comparing them. The vortex wins in all baseline categories

Discovered your channel about 6-8 months ago I think and have really been enjoying it. Definitely appreciate your POU (to quote the ancient lore) focused approach, long term reviews, and podcast like videos too.
Been rocking PA SLx line scopes for quite a while and making do, but been looking to up my optics game. Got a super salty ACOG for just under 600 and think I lean LPVO still, though time will tell. Thinking about picking up the PA PLx-compact next and then I can hopefully settle for one of the two. Would love to see a review from you on the PLx-c, but you do you brother.
Keep the content coming, you're doing great!
Keep up the great work!

Great content as usual. I’d love to see an updated review on the trijicon tr24 compared to all the other options on the market today
My review on it (my second video ever)
basically holds true. The lack of a real reticle is very frustrating.
But if you want to use a battle zero, and limit yourself to like 250 yards and in. it works alright. and its damn light
I love the honesty in your videos. That’s some I take seriously so thank you!
I love this reticle. The large pointed lines really draw your eyes to the center quickly for closer range snap shots.

Did a review when these first came out because I couldn't find anything on them. There's definitely a few gripes such as the housing thickness, lack of tactile clicks and also lack of ability to reset the turrets. But once you get past that stuff and realize it's still only 3-400 bucks it's really not a bad entry level LPVO. Does give some nice features like coming with the caps and mount. And yes there's an 8 and 10x. The 10 upgrades you to resetable turrets and does bump up to a 34mm tube. The 10 is also double the price but still pretty fair for the market on an entry 1-10
let's not forget to appreciate the new soundtrack to this BF vid. great review dude.
I have a vortex strike eagle 1x6 I picked up for 300 and a Burris pepr mount. Ever since I have had zeroed I haven't had to touch it. I've ran a lot of rounds through it and dropped it by accident, banged it around etc. It's a good option for entry level lvpo and vortex has an awesome warranty
Honestly, you put out some the best content! By far my favorite channel out there. Have you looked into any of the swampfox optics? They interest me due to price to performance options out there. And there isn't a lot of reviews, or any for that matter, of the 1-6 arrowhead BDC reticle that they have. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to all of us, it has not gone unnoticed!
not yet, one day perhaps.
I have the Swampfox Arrowhead 1-10, it is amazing. Great glass, rock solid feature set, was tested by special forces on a Scar in the mountains of Afghanistan for over a year. If it can pass that test, it is good enough for me.
@@voteholyk I hear that! A former ranger recommended it to me, glad to hear more positive feedback for it.
I'm running the 1-10 right now for testing. I agree about the glass clarity and the extra magnification not lining up too well. However the 34mm tube does offer decent light transmission. Another compromise.
for sure, I'm trying to get my hands on a 1-10x atibal with the very large objective to sorta see how that does
I picked up a viper pst gen1 1-4 earlier this year and for a $350 optic the glass is better than expected. It’s basically the entry level optic used for nra/cmp service rifle competition. The big drawback for using it as a field optic would be the exposed target turrets.
the Gen II fixes that.
I'm rocking the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8FFP right now, and while it's more that mid range, @$800. The FFP reticle is what really makes it for me.
that has a amazing FFP reticle, probably my favorite. The rest of the scope is... okay. But for sure a serviceable option
I got the tango 1-10 … my two brothers got the most recent strike eagle 1-8 ffp …. I’m thinking about switching, I’m guessing you would recommend the strike eagle over the sig 1-10 ?? Or should I just go glx with offset red dot????
For better or worse, I got the SE 1-8FFP at a smoking deal and have had good results. It’s heavy as hell compared to my old PA 1-6SFP. I think it’s best use is still only up to 6x but if you’re in a stable position the 8x max mag is nice for checking things out
I have this optic as well and am considering buying a better QD mount for it. The Tango works for me for the time being but I do plan on expanding my collection in the years to come. I enjoy your videos, lol especially your honesty.
Midwest industries makes the best qd mounts I've ever personally used. Well worth its price.
Favorite channel on UA-cam these days. I have zero interest in this optic but found myself watching all the way through just to hear your thoughts on it lol
This is why I’m still on the red dot+magnifier train. Quality LPVOs are expensive, and honestly not really thaaaaat durable. You can now get a red dot that is plenty sufficient in all the relative categories for less than $300, and there are good magnifiers in the $200-$300 price range.
In this price bracket, you are limited to 3x, but that will do just fine in many situations, and if you really need the extra magnification there are more options out there.
The 1x is just about perfect, and the 3x is great as well. You can remove the magnifier to ditch some weight swinging from target to target, and for use with night vision.
I think we were a bit too ready to jump on the LPVO default optic train. I do hope more effort is put in to minimizing the downsides of LOVOs tho.

This is a great video! Very well put together, things said in proper orders with justifications. Awesome clips to just very well executed🙌
For a budget scope, I think it’s awesome, bought mine on sale was able to use a discount code and picked it up for $211.00 shipped. Best $200 scope with mount included and has leveling lines that pair up with mount so you can level it without all the effort. Does the job and has good glass in my opinion for 200 bucks. Has decent reticle, not a big fan of the big black lines.
I have 2 Steiners so I know what good glass is and over 3k in cost between both. I bought the msr for a build I can beat the crap of it without worry and this thing has been thrown around, in the mud, rained on and slid around in the bed of my truck and this thing is still rockin and rollin. For a budget scope I think it’s the best one. I bought a strike eagle and sold it, not worth it, you have to be perfectly behind it for you to get a clear image without shadow, sig msr is way better and comes with mount.
Thats a quite a deal just ordered one one off primary arms, black Friday sale for 250. Figured for sub 300 bucks with a mount it was probably worth that.
I'm glad I found this video because I had been wondering what to do for a LPVO for my SA58 once I buy the railed cover. Seeing both this optic and the others you've mentioned
not everyone has the ability to drop nightforce and Schmidt & Bender money that will cost more than the rifle you're putting it on
am i the only one blown away with the cinematography of this video!? subscribed and liked.
My Primary arms 2nd focal plane 1-6 is worth its weight in gold. I love it, 25- to 500 meters is owned by me, lol. I dont know why they make 1st focal plane LPVO 1-6 or 1-8....you cant even make out the reticle. 2nd focal plane is awesome on a 1-6 to me. Doesnt get much cheaper than primary arms SFP 1-6...$289

I love the channel man. Your content is unmatched
I had to send in my MSR, because black flakes were bouncing around inside the scope body and obscuring the reticle. The replacement unit had a dented tube, which I promptly sent back. Third scope was GTG, but I wasn't a fan of the eyebox and clarity. Loved the reticle, tho. Sold it and bought an RT6.
I'm an optical engineer, if the pupil at the target (exit) side is 24mm you can only magnify 3-4x before you're sending less light than your pupil is designed for. You can goose this a little further but past ~6x, if you don't open up the exit pupil, all you're doing is making things larger, not clearer. Brass is on point here, if you want more that means bigger lenses (more material and smaller lot sizes), more machine time for the housing, and significantly greater engineering investment because you can't let theoretical optical performance go to crap at higher magnification ratios (because now you're filling the shooter's pupil... there's some deep wave/particle physics involved here, look up f/number of you want a laymen's version). 1-6x is about all I'd recommend unless the business end gets larger.
I have a pretty big video that im in the scripting stages of discussing the math behind exit pupil, the physics need for a 1x. And how fundamentally a 10x or even 8x lpvo don't actually make sense as the design criteria are at odds with the physics of the scope

I know it's out of your price range, but I'd love to see a comparison between the MSR and the new Sig Tango6T 1-6x the military adopted. Interesting that the Army is also adopting a Vortex 1-8x that Garand Thumb is doing a video on this Sunday. Seems like the military is going all in on LPVOs. I wonder how that will go.
You should do a the good, the bad and the ugly. Good being the best you can find, the bad being the worst and the ugly being the budget just good enough.
I appreciate your approach to budget scope
I love hearing someone talking about glass quality while all the video/broll seen is with the shooter wearing sunglasses.
Gotta be honest I just bought one. Have a few hundred rounds on it using it from 7yds to 175yds and it's been awesome. He is right about mirage and there is fish eye but overall been great so far. Can't wait to see how it does with a few thousand rounds thought.
Vortex OPMOD 1-8x is on sale at Optics Planet. Just bought one. That is the diamond tier budget optic.
I wish Sig hadn't discontinued the 2-12x Tango 6, a Gen 2 of that scope would've been incredible.
I just got my sig msr tango 1-6 and absolutely love it. It's my first. I have some experience shooting a strike eagle. For me getting used to an lpvo this is perfect. Once I step it up, I intend on getting an eotech Vudu and an acog.
How do you like it compared to the strike eagle?
If you're gonna get this optic, I would recommend leaving it at 1.25-1.5x as your default setting
Going to 1x gives a bit of a fisheye effect, zooming in all the way isn't the best user experience either
Honestly one of the best reviews on this lvpo i have one and this dude is dead accurate on it
I was 5 seconds away from getting the 8x. Took a shot of whiskey and said f it on the 6x. Couldn’t be happier with it. No need at all for 8x for 16in 5.56 ar style rifle. Love this scope/sight
Brass Facts! You crack me up! Great videos. Subscribed.
Yeah, LPVO are always a compromise… my PA 1-8x works well for the $$$ decent up close and able to hit out to 700 yards. I always have to be mindful of eye relief. There’s definitely better stuff out there. But for practical reasons, a red dot with magnifier would suffice in most cases.
always funny when people say things like "no amount of features will save the performance of a scope" actually yes it will and it can also improve your performance..does it always know but can it yes
“ Mo BETTA!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I had to sub after hearing that💯🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great beginner LPVO. Something to use until you can outshoot it's capabilities.
Very good job articulating who this is for. As a new shooter who has an Ar for prepping purposes, and who only goes to the range one or two times a month, this should be fine. Ideally I’d want to buy something better but the added cost isn’t really worth it
For a young guy just setting up their first budget AR.. This might be a good new option. Figure you’re buying this to be used as a loaner eventually, and see if you even like the idea of an LPVO.
My swampfox was around the same price point. I love it. If swampfox can do it, sig sure as hell can.
I love your functional real world training/shooting n the vids. Being in az myself. I feel like we’ve got similar landscape
Thanks for the honestly review. I got this optic and am throwing it on an Aero Precision 20 inch build to experiment with LPVO's and see if I want to really like it or not.
People get wrapped up in magnification but the most important feature is low setting performance. 99% of your shooting will be under 100yds. Magnification does little past a certain point to aid precision shooting and is more useful in target locating and i.d. than anything.
I’m considering getting this scope for a 350 legend build as that round pretty much caps at 200. So this review pretty much puts this scope in its sweet spot. Truth of life is on optics you get what you pay for. Even that there’s some that over/under perform but not to level people think. Which this video even mentioned. I figure this scope performs up to the $500 class which is outstanding for a $300 class scope.
I have the MSR 1-6, 8 and 10. The 1-6 is the best of the three by far. Best eyebox.
yeah, I don't like budget 1-10x scopes. Or even 1-8x, there's just not enough left in the design budget to pull it off imo.
@@BrassFacts I don’t like 1-10 period. No amount of money can make up for the ratio of lens magnifications creating a terrible eyebox. My Vudu 1-10 isn’t really better in eye relief or eye box. Just has amazing glass. 1-5 is really the ratio limit. That’s why 2-10 or 2.5-10 have worked so well for so long.
@@BrassFacts very fair review you did though. I recommend these for starter friends who are scared of the Vudu, Trijicon, NF, etc.
Hey everybody, look who didn't hear that we all hate LPVOs now! Let's point and laugh at the guy who doesn't check Instagram six times a day.
Why not the Gen2 Strike Eagle 1-8? Currently the SE is about $10 cheaper on PSA, and comes with a nice mount. The Gen 2 also made the center dot of the reticle usable.
because the SFP Strike Eagles kinda suck. I 'm not a big fan of their 1x and 8x performance.
I bought a bushnell 1-4. It’s a 325$ scope and I picked it up on sale for 190$.( Illuminated). It’s a first focal plane and I know that’s not necessary on a LPVO. But I’ll tell you what it’s actually a really nice scope for the price and as clear as my 1000$ nice scope. It’s a pretty good option for the price. You can get them not illuminated and in 1-6 and 1-8 options. Worth a shot for people trying to get something usable with good features for not 5-600$+
I know you probably won’t see this bud, but did you wind up zeroing this at 100? Or did you switch it up to 50 because of what distance you found it was capable of getting out to with the glass magnification etc. And what changes with the BDC if so? Thanks!

Turns out, I hate LPVO's so this is the only one I own and I don't plan to buy another. I still own the scope and it sits on my first AR which is a piece of junk that I got for free. Its there if a buddy wants to shoot or has a failure in his gun at the range, but other than that it just sits in the corner.
Great review man! I love how you talk about how illumination should just be dropped on some LPVOs. And how budget and FFP is just yuck..... I will say i still have a healthy honeymoon with 2-10/14 mid range optics
... Yum. Keep it up man!

thanks man!
The cheapest lpvo I like use for hunting. Acceptable glass. Leupold VX 1.5-4 pig Plex. $225 when I got mine. Use it on Ruger American 350 legend. Out to 200 yds. Never tried it on my AR. But my brother used one on his HK 91. Yes actual HK not PTR. Had mine on my scar 17 for 500 rnds until I save up for good glass. The Leupold VX 1.5-4 is a very solid LPVO.
Given my skills with a rifle a cheaper but still quasi-decent glass is better than spending $5k to still miss shots at 100 yards because I'm a noob.
Very good information, and wise ideas around what an lpvo must be.
