It's time Brass Facts was held accountable for preaching mandatory magnification. Just the other day I took my Aimpoint equipped rifle to the range and two goons with Brass Facts patches on their PCs approached me. After slapping my rifle out of my hand and and dumping a beer on me they yelled "THIS IS MAGNI-COUNTRY" and fled. I was literally shaking.

@@Mills141 You're probably referring to the NPZ PO 1/4x. I have one, and the switching works fine, but image and eyebox is noticeably inferior to Elcan on either magnification, and illumination is horrible quality while eating batteries for breakfast. And they made it FFP on top of that, which means that the reticle is too small on 1x and too large on 4x.

I've always loved the elcan but it's just way too chonky and expensive. I bought the 3x slx and love it. Give primary arms a couple more years at the rate they are going they'll have something similar in quality for less than half the price.

If the reticle is as small as shown in the video view through the optic, the "horse shoe" seems VERY necessary. Unless that doesn't accurately represent real life, it seems to me the chevron would VERY easily get lost in the clutter without the horse shoe drawing in the eye for quick shooting up close. Am waiting for FDE version....

It would seem that way, but in practice it's actually very easy to pick up for fast shots, I'm much quicker with this than a regular red dot. When taking precise shots you can slow down and easily see the reticle and markings for distance. I thought it was going to lose it too with the 1X model. Once I got it and ran it on both 2 AR Pistols in 556 and 9mm I immediately bought the 9mm version so I had the correct reticle. They are great and I am now a PA optics fan boy. I still watch the reviews of them to make sure, but I'm now I'm deciding between the 1- 6 LPVO FFP or just running this 3X on my lightweight training AR15.

It's weird how an optic can have a huge fov in feet, both be 3x magnification, and one 'feels' like a much bigger more immersive fov. That I belive is called APOV (apparent fov). Is is a premium optic eyepiece design and why elcans, acogs, and hensoldts cost double or triple. These are light because they have less lenses in the eyepiece specifically and can use a much smaller prism because of this. It's also why primary arm 1-8 and similar cost optics have good fov numbers but in use feel way harder to use after using premium lpvo

For this reason alone I’d definitely compare it favorably to a kind of baby’s first ACOG but w better eye relief, none of the cringe factor, and you don’t have to take out a second mortgage to get your hands on one. Very impressed with Primary Arms and I’ll probably pick up another one in future, this time in FDE.

New Sub here, I just picked up this optic but for the 7.62x39/300 blackout. I love the horse shoe for close in for me that is immediately the "dot". The optic does not require batteries so unlike a red dot if your battery dies this does not matter. I am very impressed with this optic because 3x is a bit much in houses but I think does well in the 25 yard to 300 yard range. For my environment and my situation this does very well for what I need.

@@thenamesPRINDLE I ended up getting the primary arms 3x and the 2x since the reticles seemed to be bolder and faster at speed than the vortex 3x. Also the bdc in the PA ones seemed like they were a lot simpler to use with my caliber. I prefer the footprint and mounting options of the vortex but mini acog mounts can still be found for not too much from eurooptic. I may pick up a vector 3x or more likely a 4x since they're affordable and the OEM for vortex prisms which is very interesting.
I can't really say if I prefer the 2x or 3x though. I feel like about 200/250 and in the 2x is better and it certainly is faster up close. Past 250 the 3x is better for targets beyond 300 or so I'd prefer more magnification personally. For short to mid range I'm loving both though. Glass on the 2x is better but the reticle on the 3x is better. I feel like the 2x is kind of a red dot and magnifier alternative and the 3x is more of poorcog. I liked both enough to give up my lpvo (PST) and go fully to prisms. The weight savings and consistent sight picture with ffp reticle that stays good the whole way is awesome. If I want higher mag I'll likely just go to mpvo or higher honestly but that's beyond the scope of a gpr setup in my opinion.

Small form factor, light weight, and that big horseshoe pops your eyes right to the target and in a brush gun application, that is 100% what I want. The round's limitation in range (200 yards or less)make 3x just about perfect. Does the eye relief lend itself well to a traditional rifle vs the AR platform with collapsable stock?

@@cannabiskiisdead5360 First I'd have to disclose that I am an old guy that shot for 30 years with out any optics and only embraced even red dots on fighting weapons in 2016. I am a prepper and tinkerer much more than a shooter. This is also my first magnified optic on a fighting gun. It is on an 11.5" AR cheek pistol. I consider it a 150 yard gun that I sometimes stretch to 200 yards. Finally, I am left eye dominant, right handed, and shoot 'long' guns left handed. That said, to my eye, it has a clear and sharp image to the edges, it has a very forgiving eye box, and it only takes a few hours to get the hang of using such an odd magnification. Since it is a cheek pistol, I allow it to recoil straight back from the front contact point of my cheek being about 1" back on the buffer tube to almost where the left side protruding only charging handle is. I consider all of that 3" or so of travel inside the eye box. The reticle stays on the target as shooing this way even with the heavy (165 & 300gr) bullets I use causes very little muzzle rise. Oh, and jeez I forgot to say the the chevron is tiny and my old eyes can only resolve it clearly about 50% of the time depending on when I take my meds. I really just wanted a no astigmatism problem slightly magnified red dot and this is one. Sorry if this is too much non-optic related info.

I went with the Burris RT-3 on my WWSDish rifle, because of lack of availability of the PA option, and ended up at 6lbs even with optic and that’s with an aluminum 15” handguard and gunner profile barrel. It really makes a difference on a lightweight build. I’ll probably replace the Burris with the PA if I can find the PA in stock because I like the ACSS chevron over the horseshoe dot of the RT-3.

I got one after seeing this review, very happy with it so far (in store pickup). I was on the fence between this and getting another PA GLX 2x prism (have one on an AK). Compared to that, this one has comparable glass quality but a tighter eye box (but what doesn't?). That said, it's a better eye box than any other optic I have in this price range at 3x. The reticle is pretty nice in it. It's not at all crowded and seems about the right size for a 3x. The only complaint I have is that the stadia and wind holds aren't illuminated. They disappear against darker targets as you'd expect. Biggest take away I have from it is that it's a truly tiny optic that doesn't seem to sacrifice anything to achieve the small size. The FoV, eye relief, eye box and optical quality are all pretty good at any price point, nevermind $320. FYI, my crappy scale shows it at 8.4 Oz with the standard AR height cantilever mount. That's just stupid imho. It doesn't seem possible.
I recommend this over the Vortex Spitfire HD Gen 2 and Sig Bravo 3. I have both of those, so this is first hand experience. The GLX 2x is kind of a red dot/prism hybrid thing, so this doesn't compete directly. I think they are of similar quality though, maybe a slight edge to the SLX Micro 3x simply due to how awful the battery cover is on the GLX.

I grabbed that one.

Very capable optics for size, weight, and most importantly - price. Coming from Trijicon, I was surprised to see how clear the glass was and how bright the reticle gets. The mount left a little to be desired so I upgraded to ADM ACOG mini mounts, which are around $70. I'd be very interested to see what PA can do with a 5x microprism.

I use one on my AR10.
I wasn't expecting much for the night vision performance, but it surprised me. First magnified optic I've used that felt useable with a PVS14 on my head. My elcan OS4x doesn't work very well for me with night vision, and my acogs... Well the tritium causes a problem.
The weight is why I bought it, as I was trying to get a fully featured AR10 down into AR15 weight, and it gets me there.
If they went to a fatter chevron, no horseshoe, and with brighter illumination, I'd consider it perfect for what it's trying to do. It's pretty close as it is.

@@skyhop really? Brass facts and Hop (the guys shooting in this video) apparently prefer a thinner reticle because the chevron kept hiding the targets between 50-200 yards. For its intended use, shooting human sized target (and not metal poppers at distance) this reticle size seems to work well. But it’s interesting you would prefer it thicker. Different folks, different strokes.
I have a ACSS CQB red dot and the BDC is unusable without the magnifier behind it, because it’s so small at 1x. I wish the reticle was larger and the chevron thicker, like on a ACSS Vulcan seems to be.

    • @skyhop

@@VincitOmniaVeritas7 Once you use an acog with a straight up triangle reticle, it's hard to argue with the effectiveness. So what if it covers the target, irons do half the time too, you can work around it. If you want a benchrest optic then you'd be better off with a crosshair.

With an FoV of 24’ @ 100m, a 2.7” eye relief and a 10oz weight, the Vortex 5x is a real gem because you get a lot more magnification with no down sides. Hop wasn’t a fan but I think it hits a lot of sweet spots with a with a piggyback back 509t.

For a week or so now I’ve had one on a 20” A4 style gun that previously had a ACOG TA-110 on it. I won’t claim the PA is “better” than an ACOG but that A4 was a real pig to lug around with the TA-110. It’s a much more nimble gun now, which I appreciate as someone who is pretty enthusiastic about the shooting characteristics and ballistic advantages of full length 20” rifles. I think the weight of the PA 3x and mount, and a set of MBUS PRO rear sights is not too much heavier than a detachable carry handle
