We're all feeling this one a little harder today. RIP Mark Lanegan.
:(
Cos it didn't hit hard enough 😅😩 oh man . 😫😫
💔 Heartbreaking. Rest easy ML
I'm not even a 90's kid, but the Seattle scene was my reintroduction to music and knowing that the majority of the most powerful voices from the era are now dead, all gone too young, is simply SAD, *_don't do drugs people_*
@@jayjohns1391 Ok, troll or not, that sounds like the ancient human enemy, "Excuse-Man!".
I am a 50 year old man crying in my garage where does the time go
It's called The Quickening. The older we get, the faster time goes.
It's a real thing. Sucks.
I'm very close, rapidly encroaching on 50..if I even make it there. My children need their old mom, so I better.. lol.
Cherish every day as much as possible.
Mark Lanegan inhabited this song, coupled with Maggie Björkland on the slide - they made it their own while keeping true to the original. Absolutely beautiful.
Stay well and safe..
Peace.
I was 20 years old when I had a choice of buying Soundgardens' Loud Love or Husker Du's New Day Rising. Sound garden became the soundtrack to my next 20 years... and now Kurt,Chris, and Layne and countless others are dead. And still I live, and I love their music bc it takes me back to the stupidity of youth, the passion of life. And I bring it, everyday, bc I am still alive, and living in a hollow shell ain't worth it. I explode when these songs are around...we lived in a truly creative era.
Right there with ya dude.
Me too mate.
seriously
this video was already special but now it has a whole new meaning. R.I.P Mark, hope you and Layne can reconnect up there
You mean like Layne Staley singing about Andrew Wood? I'm starting to think "tribute" songs are a jinx.
So do I...💔❤️😢
I know it does
You put it better than I could, Mark will be missed
:(
Rest in Peace Mark. There aren’t any voices like yours, and there never will be again 😔
What a day… 😭😭
Well said. This is a very sad day.
Well said . Rip Mark xxx
Mark recorded this while he was recovering from severe covid illness. What a legend.
Love Mark lenang, but Layne Stanley and Scott Weiland, que saudades, não a palavras
Mark was the only person that could sing an AIC song and take it to a new level of greatness. You're sorely missed, Lanegan..
I felt like he would've been a great replacement. The lower octave would've worked.
But it's nowhere near as good as the original and not even on the same planet as the unplugged version.
I have to agree with your points. My comment was how Mark took it to a new level of greatness as a tribute to Layne.
@@definitiveenergy1878 Meh, it's all personal taste, I shouldn't judge it. If you're a big fan of someone and really like their playing/voice, of course you're gonna love their versions more.
It's kinda funny. I never liked screaming trees at all but when Mark started playing w/ QOTSA I was blown away-listen to Hanging Tree if you would. Again, nobody could top Layne on his stuff. @@Th3UprightMan
I'm glad they included Mike a lot in this video. People often forget he's not with us anymore as well.
Damn, even I forgot about Starr... Sad
I think Mike was a sadder case than Layne. He actually sort of made it through then kept relapsing until he passed. :( He just couldn't escape drugs even after multiple rehab stints.
Rip boys
Me too about getting Mr Starr in there as well.
Sad mike was never able to cope with the loss of his best friend such a shame both so talented they could have made such beautiful music still! God I wish I could go back a relive the 90s again i miss all of my heros
I’m heartbroken Mark Lanegan isn’t here anymore. There won’t be another voice like his in a long time.
ever*
I’m thankful that we shared our tie with him . He is eternal
One can hope.
There will never be someone to replicate this man
@@rx8flip There already are.
His kiss at the end, god, mark, how we miss you...

Mark Lanegan is one of the most underrated singers of all time.

You're damn right, my friend.
He’s THE modern day Johnny Cash. Or maybe a better description is us Gen Xers version of Johnny Cash.
Listening to Mark sing Nutshell was the most beautiful thing that happened this year. Thanks.

totally agree, brother.
agreed!!!!
Nutshell and rotten Apple, my ultimate faves of Alice in chains. Jar of Flies/sap double ep was the first cd I bought of them.
Literally...
Say "Hi" to Layne, Baker, Shawn, Landrew, Wally, Chris, Kurt, Mike...this is heartbreaking. It just keeps going on.
@@PeskyNaysayer Weiland? Yeah. I love his fucking beautiful ass too. (I excluded him cuz he wasn't Seattle. I was being a DOUCHE.)
@@PeskyNaysayer I reget everything too. Do you play music?
Just heard the news about Mark's passing. As an Irish person, I'm proud and glad he enjoyed his stay in the Irish countryside during his final few years
That's what I said to my daughter when she told me! At least he died in the great country of Ireland!
It does look like this video of him was recorded in Ireland.
You can feel Mark's pain on this, missing his dear friend. Incredibly beautiful tribute.
Mad Season was off the rails.
Mark has lost alot of friends
@@groundsfordivorce4378 he has and it's sad just like Willie Nelson your still around but you've lost almost everyone you held near to you
And that's 18 years after Layne's death, I can't imagine how painful it could have been for Mark to sing it in 2002.
@@Faks.09 you never really get over the loss of a friend or loved one, you just learn to live with it
“ “Layne?” I asked.
“Yes, honey. He's gone.”
It was a call I had expected for years but it destroyed me nonetheless.
His loss left a void I’ve felt every day since. I expect I always will.”
-Mark Lanegan (Sing backwards and weep)
Edit: Rest In Peace Mark 🖤😭, can’t believe you’re gone. You are always going to be a legend to me.

RIP to this beautiful man! He was an incredible musician... This cover hits different now
RIP brother, the nicest musician you could ever wish to meet. God damn my heart is so heavy today. I will never forget those 10 or 15 minutes you gave up just to talk to me. Made me feel like an old friend from the first words spoken.
Damn, man. This words sound like a bomb for my heart. Thank you for your emotions.
What an incredible experience that must have been. While you didn't go into a lot of details (and I liked that you didn't, keeping it between you and Mark and not shared w/ thousands to get more likes), you captured what I truly believe was Mark's essence. You confirm what I've always thought. That Mark was a down-to-earth, gracious dude. Thank-you for sharing!
Layne was his best friend. After reading Lanegans book man oh man..
you talking about Sing Backwards and Weep?

Only man who could do this song justice.
Couldn't agree more
Rest in power Mark Lanegan, Layne Staley, and Mike Starr. You are all sorely missed. I truly hope you have all found some serenity
So beautiful. I can't believe layne, Mike and now Mark are all gone. These guys built the soundtrack to my entire life! I'm a 53 year old recovering addict myself with 10 plus years clean now. I used pretty much everything known to man during my life but Heroin and Crack were definitely my biggest demonic drugs. Looking back I find it difficult to understand how some of us live when others don't. So sad. Rip to all of us that didn't make it.
Very well said brother. Salute, from another soldier who fought in the same war.
We all die in the end. It's no fun outliving everyone you ever cared about.
Your story rings a bell with mine, as I'm 44 now, and spent years facing the horrors of crack and heroin addiction (still on methadone to this day, and until my death I expect)
Those guys were part of the soundtrack of my teen years, and to this day I still mourn Mark Lanegan's passing, as it was so unexpected...
Chris Cornell
Hang in there, brother. It’s tough. Tighten up the gloves.

That shit broke me. It's scary to think about how many people Mark lost in the course of a decade and how logically he should've gone with them. It's nothing short of a miracle that he's continued to be here with us.

RIGHT?! Between his lovely voice and Maggie's plaintive (and may I say, rather otherworldly) playing, it just rips my heart out every time I hear it. 💓💓💓
Mark's emotion shines through, and combined with Maggie's terrific pedal steel playing generates a totally heartbreaking cover. Amazing.

This gave me chills. Every Alice in chains fan needs to see this spread the word.
The first time I saw Screaming Trees live I said “this fuckin guy is going to be a legend.” After everything he’s done since, how isn’t he? He’s right up there with Layne and Chris Cornell vocally.

This couldn't be any more haunting now 😭😭😭😭
Oh little burning star, now you can go to heaven and shine with other legends like you, eternally, your art, forever. 🌟🖤 RIP MARK LANEGAN (1964-2022) 🕯
This is a beautiful Track from AIC but like Dylan wrote "Behind every beautiful thing there is some kind of pain" . Layne wrote this about himself and what he was going through in life and it wasn't pretty. Hardly anyone covers this song because you cannot sing about something that you have not experienced .But man it felt like Mark was coming from the same place where Layne was. This is hauntingly beautiful rendition of a very special song from AIC. And the Slide just added a lot of things to this cover.
True love for sure.. All the support around him... Total understanding of the disease..
Yeah man. Deep emotions. The slide player looked sad. And Marks gesture at the end of the vocals - total grief
If there is someone that knows exactly what Layne was going through, it's his frien Mark. Read his autobiography for many beautiful and heartbreaking stories about Layne. This cover made me cry and I'm not ashamed to admit it.
Well said. 😢

Mark Lanegan just passed away today and my sadness for his loss is profound. He was a survivor of a hugely impacting time in my life, and both the fame and drug addiction that nearly took him out. RIP Mark. Another legend lost.
When I heard Korn's cover I thought it was the best; then I heard Mastodon's cover and I thought it was the best, and then I heard this cover and I knew that, although the other covers were AMAZING, this, THIS cover was on another level! There was a level of emotion here that was absent from other covers (not that there wasn't any emotion, just not on the same level as this cover). And adding the steel guitar was an absolute stroke of genius that was the cherry on top of this amazing sundae!
haha, I had a similar trajectory. korn's video popped up a couple days ago and Would? is one of my favorite AIC songs, so I had to click, and I literally just finished Mastodon's cover.
Not saying this one is bad but I loved the cover by KoRn now I am fixing to go check out the Mastadon cover

Rip to Layne Staley and Mike Starr , along with so many other greats, taken too soon.
In my opinion, this was the best performance of the MoPOP Founders Award 2020! Marg sang great, Maggie was absolutely awesome on the pedal steel (she made all the difference) and the others were pretty good too! And I don't understand how 15 people can dislike it.
