I have to say, I've adored Billy since dust in a baggie and tinfoil and turmoil... He reminds me of my kids raised by addicts who did the best we knew how at the time.. my point being he took the good stuff and remains true. Makes me smile that this song obviously means something to him. So much talent! He never disappoints..
I don't know how or why. Whether it was the universe, or ghost from my past, or God whispering in my ear, or just blind luck. But it worked out for me that I wrestled all of my demons..... Alcohol by the gallons, drugs by the truckload, anxiety, depression. Along with huge anger issues. Even bigger issues with self destruction.... Before my daughter was born. I believe that when you're high and/or drunk. Every. Single. Day. You have no control of the events in your life.. this is where the blind luck came in ... I'm 61years old now. My daughter is 20.... We're in a good place now. She saved my life.... Anyway my biggest regret?? Is all the time.... YEARS.. that I wasted and can't ever get back. That part crushes my soul a little more every day the older I get...
Just introduced to Billy's music a month ago. Can't get enough of it. Just seen him in concert less than a week ago and can't wait to the next show. At 40 you don't become obsessed with artists .. however I think I might not be able to not listen to him daily lol. Incredible rare and raw talent... something I haven't seen in years. His concert was around my 70th concert I've attended ( seen everyone from STP weiland era, to Metallica to Highly Suspect to Wu-tang to Coldplay to Tool )and not one compares to his.
I can’t even get over how good Billy is!!! He pulls out these covers and makes them his own!!!!!!! I grew up on them and it’s just amazing how he keeps surprising me with his covers. This , Fearless, Shady Grove and so many more!!!!!!!! We needed someone to stand out and here he is. Watching him sit in with TOOL is even crazier. He owns the stage when gets up there. This version with the violin???? Layne & Jerry would both be proud.

It was AIC and that was Sean, Mike, Jerry and Layne in the early days. They each played their part in making AIC what they were and are. Mike I. and William are now fulfilling their part in AIC. Layne and Mike made'Their Decision' as tragic as it was. In hindsight what I'm saying is that they were all important. It's AIC at the end of the day - forever!

That fiddle is at once beautiful and tragic and just adds so much emotion to an already emotional song. What a great cover that he made his own. Haters gon hate but this kid is straight up legit. I've seen him 4 times, including Red Rocks last May, and he is by far the best I've seen and I've seen the Dead, Allman Bros, Skynard, and a whole lot of other great bands live
Man last nights show was such an emotional rollercoaster… lost my mind when I heard this. Gonna be chasing this one
How good is music. two of my favourite songs in one. 30 years apart in time. This clip takes me on a journey like nothing else, man. Mad respect for Billy Strings, people don't give his musical talent the recognition it deserves. Love from AUS!
I just became a Billy Strings fanatic! I may have heard of him before, but I know I'll never forget! Just incredible..
This is why I love this band and Billy drops all the feelings deep into the music . Loving you guys
I am 61 years old, and I am CRAZY about a new favorite band...BMFS!!! Have not felt like this since REM in the fricking 90s!! Guys I adore you, please keep going! Billy, dear God son....you're a special one
Special, lol? He's just covering someone else's music.....poorly might I add. It's for attention. It's for money. Did you not hear the dogshit that came next, lol?
This got me all in my feelings!!!. I'm so glad I made the drive!!! Nutshell from the rail!! Never forget this moment!! Much love to Billy and the boys and everyone that made this Winter tour so amazing!!! And thanks for the super quality videos!!!!! This tops them all!!
The music industry needed someone like Billy! I love his appreciation for all sorts of music. Rock on Billy!!
It does ❤🤟🤗😜🤭🤭☺️☺️😘😘
I don't know how or why.

The chick that unintentionally or intentionally harmonizes from somewhere in the audience:
You owned this moment.
That man feels it in the soul of his being. That violin cry’s the sadness some of us feel. And for the solo, bravo. Wel done billy, well done.
Depression, addiction, loneliness…90’s grunge and sad country songs have some emotion and theme in common when you think about it. Cool cover, Nutshell is timeless.
Almost like all us humans are fighting the same devil with 7 billion different faces ❤
@@rktyler3470Perfectly worded my friend........damn......
This dude is my hope for the kids that come behind me forreal!!!! I am a gen x'er born in 72. I grew up on the greatest classic rock, went to grunge and Chili Peppers in the early 90s when I started college, and then had the Panic and Phish as my hippie jam bands. This guy leads the next cool generation of young people as far as music goes. I love it !!!
Same here cuz 😂
Yep same I was born in 71 and I feel the same about him.
I was raised on AIC, Audioslave, Rage, Pearl Jam, Temple of the dog and mad season. All types of dope ass 90’s Shit like Infectious Grooves, Porno for Pyros, Soul Coughing, butthole surfers, etc.
I just hope the drugs don't get him early. He has everything to be an all time great, just needs the longevity.
@@gcp5898 I don’t think so. He lived with junkies and never did it and saw all the damage it does. not sure why he would start now but i guess you never know.
I am deeply, and profoundly moved. + Goosebumps. Thank you lane for your masterpiece, and billy for keeping the old stuff neo.
Just saw Billy Strings on Theo Von This Past Weekend and LOVED HIM! Came across this video this morning and wanted to cry. RIP Layne! Violin started and gave me CHILLS.... Nice to meet that Billy Strings!!
I think no matter when you discovered this song, it takes you to the place you were when you first heard it, mentally, emotionally.. and we were all "there" at some point, when this song became special to us. Such a lonely feeling.. it's almost like you revisit yourself. I always want to comfort her when I hear this song. Just hold myself and cry. Thank you, Billy for doing this incredible song justice.
I love reading all the comments on here and seeing the emotion this band brings to more people than just me. BMFS!
What a masterpiece I’ve always loved Alice In Chains Layne (RIP)was a fantastic songwriter
Except Cantrell wrote all the songs.
@@hammbass6879 he wrote the music, but Layne wrote just as many of the lyrics.
One of the best songs ever written. Great cover, a good blend of styles. It's Alice in Chains, but it's Billy Strings...
amazing cover and the fiddle and guitar makes you feel like a teenager again. In 53 and first saw AIC live in 1991, this is class
You did this song all the justice it deserves Layne is looking down with tears in his eyes for sure your the truth Billy
Also, thank you so much for the upload and standing still for the entire 15 minutes to capture this moment! ❤
Yes, thank you!!Standing still for the entire song is definitely not an easy task..
Yes 🙌 I fucking love this tune and hearing Billy cover it was a treat! That was a great arrangement! Even the lady in the crowd singing harmony was good 😂
I heard that...she was excellent!
Wow ❤❤❤ you are finally an artist that did the song the justice and soul it deserves ..excellent job ❤
This is still my favorite video of him doing this song. Thank you so much. The feelings delivered in this performance are indescribable.
Billy got me reliving my 90's living in Seattle going to AIC shows and following the Dead in the summer lol
good times
Crazy that in one night this already has 8K views! Billy has blown up! This cover was amazing! Thanks for capturing it!
Surprised it's not more to be honest. 8k isn't much
@@spencerellington547 Does 46K in two days make you Happy?

Oh man… what a sensational tribute to lane that was. Had to watch the whole thing, your skills behind that fretboard are unreal and vox to match. Tight band! As a guitarist of 25 years, I’m totally captivated by talent like this on the rare occasion you see it. Very original compositions the band worked so well together.
Subscribed bro.
I’ve been waiting on this for sooo long! To see it live was the icing on the cake. Thank you Billy. Winter has been a thrill! We have met so many awesome people in the past couple months! See y’all this spring/summer
-the Peaches
Lol what?
Thank you!
I grew up as a roady during the 90s and this song, in fact the whole album is the true feeling of the era. Love to hear it !!
Can you play Mad Season River of deceit?
Folks he just successfully covered Layne Staley vocals & Jerry Cantrell’s guitar. I also saw him cover Warpigs by Black Sabbath and honored both Ozzie with his vocals and Tony lommi on the guitar. Are you kidding me right now?!!!! Billy Strings is the best I’ve seen in a couple generations! Damn!!!
that was definitely not an accurate vocal cover. It was great amazing even but not Layne at all. The southern Draw in his voice is so obvious.
Ozzy*
Rip Staley thank you Billy. Thanks for the upload as well. 🙏🏻
Idk if anyone else commented this but the girl singing at 1:30 needs to go on stage to harmonies with him those couple of seconds sounded awesome
That's what I thought Id almost rather listen to her sing it lol
I heard it as well , It caught me off guard. Kinda like that moment in the movie "Rockstar".
I'm able to sing this song and they say I can sound about as close to Layne Stanely as possible. I would love that chance.
Trash
I love this song!! Billy , you are an advanced human! This is gold!
Thank you Billy play what you want and feel!
When he started to sing this song I got chills over my entire body. Damn.
It's awesome when Billy does a cover, always shines
Billy is just flowing with talent. The whole band is legendary. I saw them live and they blew me away.
Oh wow you saw him live ….. 😁🫶 now that is what I hope to say one day …….😊I was bored just scrolling along an noticed him an I couldn’t believe in my group of people no one had mentioned him wow the talent an his expressions are so enjoyable … now I don’t just scroll bored lol so excited when he plays with his dad check it out if you haven’t …..👍take care Go Billy Go
The Stevie Ray Vaughn of acoustic guitar.😎
Was literally just thinking the exact same thing! They don't come around all the time, but boy when they do, you better enjoy them! Wish I had half the gift of guitar and singing that those two did and do!
Best cover I’ve heard of this song🤘🏼
My first introduction to Billy was the old home video of dust in a baggie, when he looked like some prep school kid lol! It was amazing and I was hooked!!!!
My all time favorite AIC song. Prob my favorite song in general. If you are a friend of sorrow, this will always touch you.
Dude this video is amazing!! So thankful you captured it. I was 🫠 last night watching from my bed. Wow. What an amazing cover, but doesn’t surprise me. Literally anything and everything these guys play is 10/10. ❤
Strange to think that Billy was only 9 when Layne died, and the fact his biological dad also died from overdose when he was only 2. But what a great job he did covering this one! Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for sharing Doug! Can't stop watching this one!! Missed out on buena tickets!
Nutshell is favorite songes played great
never heard of billy strings. now I want to know more.
I wish I could listen to him again for the first time. Have fun
Look up his cover of "Train, Train" he does a 9:13 intro if I remember right, and does things on a guitar in the intro that are just unreal.
It’s an amazing live experience
I gotta say that was the best cover ever of nutshell I have experienced.. , Billy and the boys are pure talent.. can't wait to see a Florida show date come up again .. 😀
A cover I didn’t know I needed. They did an excellent job ❤
Billy..I've been listening to you on UA-cam for a few years now. Still Love everything you do.
You're the one person in the crowd whom I'm very glad held their phone up the whole time
...not always the worst thing to have a high definition video with clear quality audio to remember a song or two exactly how they really were, and not the psychedelic masterpiece I had left in my mind 😂
Wow!! Such a EXCELLENT MUSICIAN ❤❤❤❤❤
One of the most beautiful songs ever created.
I'm happy Billy has gotten such well deserved recognition... but damn do I miss seeing him play small little bars with only 10-20 people there.
You can see so much emotion in his face when he sings this song too, the song already always makes me emotional but even more so seeing the emotion in his face while singing
RIP Layne
Hell yeah spent years jamming this an all my kids love the older stuff great to see an hear a young kat with an old soul kill it thanks stay happy
Who would have thought Nutshell would sound so good with a violin and mandolin backing it! Awesome 🙏🏾
