From Queens of the Stone Age to discovering his solo work, to discovering he collaborated with Isobell Campbell (adored Belle and Sebastian as a kid and always loved her voice), Mark Lanegan slowly grew to be one of my very favourite singers. There's a magic authenticity and deep raw being from the soul we always got from Mark. This one hurts, as much as Chris Cornell or Anthony Bourdaine. Rest Mark, your music will live on and we are all blessed to have had you with us.
Whaaaat? I can not believe 😢😢 no it just can not be true. I just ramdomly went to listen this and then i saw comments, you will be missed and rest in peace and I just can not believe... rest in peace one of the most amazing artists and singers...
Mark, goodnight. Thank you for the memories. Privileged to have seen you about 25 times in 21 years in your various guises. Love you brother. We were gifted.
Who else wants Mark back, it really sucks he is gone. His words and music are beyond amazing and people will look back and realize how talented and amazing he was. RIP Mark. If you listen to his words its like he is singing his story to us, beyond sad and happy at the same time. A true artist to the core.
I was fortunate to meet him last night. He has got to be one of the nicest musicians I've ever met. He looks intimidating but he's so humble and sweet.
Wow...can u tell us more about ur meeting ? Ive seen him 3 times at his gigs twice in london and once in amsterdam when i confiesed greg dulli for trent reznor...very enjoyable
I agree so much with you. I've just been keeping coming back for years and seemingly can't ever get fed up. And, apart from how much I appreciate Mark Lanegan's art, I must tell that I love you, Cheryl. :D
I adore this station..I wish it was my local station I know that much.xxx To say a huge thank you to Mark.Lanegan..Chris Cornell..Layne Staley.,Jeff Buckley & Nick Drake..I truly love you all .YOU..made life worth living I.know that much ...you'll live forever ❤xxx
the goosebumps I get during the judgement time are deep. "Just a strung out angel" hits me pretty hard as I can totally empathize with that lyrics. RIP Mark - what a reserved, chill dude he was
Since the time I heard the news, this constant, imperceptible sadness has flooded my every brain and soul cell ... another giant that made our lifes better, that soothed out our darkness and made it possible for us to conciliate with everyday living departed and left us again alone... So long my dear friend ... you 'll be living as long as some of us will whisper your songs in our difficlut times ...
Although Mark's performing solo here, I'd just like to take a moment to mention that his band Screaming Trees didn't get the recognition that they deserved back when they were still an active band. Not that they didn't get any (they were, after all, amongst the first of the "grunge" bands to get picked up by a major label), but they got overshadowed by everyone's love for the "big-4" (Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice In Chains). One of the under-appreciated gifts that his band had was Mark's voice. While he didn't have anywhere near the vocal range that Chris Cornell had, nor the emotional and visceral energy that Kurt and Layne had and Eddie had and still has, his voice has a depth, fullness and warmth in its low and mid tones that none of the other vocalists mentioned had -- that voice has only gotten better with age now that he's a couple decades into his solo career.
I used to think they were unappreciated and unsupported by their label, but I think they were limited a lot more by their internal issues. They never got along. Mark's own anger issues and addiction were a big part of it. So glad to see him healthy and making music now. His book is well worth reading.
@@josh0g after reading Lanegan’s book; I would lay blame at his feet. When they got signed; he was pretty much donions. His addiction was his only concern. I feel for his bandmates. It would be interesting to get Homme’s takeon things.
I don't know all the background, etc. But it was as if they weren't marketed well. I can't even think how many times I listened to Sweet Oblivion, but it was only that album. Never really listened to later albums. Going to dig a bit in their discography.
@@Seether1975 'Dust' is amazing also. There is a superb posthumous record of unreleased material intended for an album before they split, called Last Words: The Final Recordings..
R.I.P. Mark Lanegan. Too young to have left us. You leave behind an incredible musical legacy. Anthony Bourdain must be ecstatic; he was so obsessed with your music.
So glad this is here to rewatch forever. Spent countless hours listening to his records and he will live forever through the music and words he gave us. RIP Mark.
From the frontman of one of most heavy and dense bands of 90's to a religious hipster... Mark is an open artist. Love him so much and how he can use his voice un a wide range of artistical expressions.
Lanegan THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK! AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING: That our HEAVENLY FATHER SEES FIT TOO PUT PEOPLE LIKE YOU ON THE EARTH FOR US TO, LOVE.
Wow! After being a huge fan of AIC, Nirvana, STP, Pearl Jam, I totally missed the Screaming Trees...what's even worse is that I have been addicted to Queens of the Stone Age for A LONG TIME, and I totally missed that not only was he a part of the band, but sings a few of my favorite songs with them...Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees. Fixing that issue RIGHT NOW!!!...SORRY MARK...Your gravelly vibrato is AMAZING!
Beautiful, just love his late work. Saw his last and only concert of 2020 on UA-cam earlier today, but it's gone! an exquisite performance, his wife also on vocals, such a strong testament, I'm surprised someone would remove it. Hope it reappears. Thanks Mark your experience and humanity was in your poetry and in your voice. Sorry you suffered so.
He has a great voice but, maybe the most relevant thing is how he uses it, I mean, the technical skills, sustain, etc. I discovered this today and wow, a great band. The rest of the musicians are exceptional so, as a result is a great band.
Right, isn't he one of the most underrated vocalists out there? He has a hell of a voice but it really comes down to how brilliantly he interprets music and how versatile he is which is a whole another story in terms of talent. I find him outstanding.
People say he is underrated but reading comments here that is clearly untrue. A generational talent who reaches exactly those people he intends to. I don’t know anyone into Mark who i don’t like and respect as a human being. Magical when you think about it.
IMO by far the towering talent of our generation in the NW as a singer/songwriter...the only guy/gal who can stand shoulder to shoulder with the bob dylans gordon lightfoots bruce springsteens and other greats in terms of uniqueness and quality and timbre of his voice and the integrity of his artistic vision

Mark Lanegan commands respect. When he sings, we have to listen to his music.
We don't have to, but....something....keeps....us....from....turning...away!
I have seen that in big venues.
He starts singing with just an acoustic - the entire place just shuts up and listens.
The grunge era was incredibly tragic and to have Mark stick around as long as he did and have him age like a fine wine is really such a treat.

Rest in peace Mark. Everything is spinning down here and listen to your music for better times. We'll miss your voice.
