He was never underrated, he’s everybody’s little secret. Absolute genius, honest with no hidden agendas just real. Was at his last Dublin gig and no words could describe the waves of emotion between him and the audience... beautiful evening...💔✌️🙏🦊
Agree.. Lanegan such my little secret, personally, that no one I knew could understand my devastation at his loss. Great you were able to see him live. I bet it was an incredible experience. Much Love 💕
Shelley is so stunning in this video. I love their voices together. They were such a cool couple and this song is amazing! Mark's voice is just incredible. I used to listen to this song on a loop in my car... the way it creeps in and crawls along... love it!!! RIP Mark - my favourite singer and artist of all time
I've heard like every band and singer in this world bit I've never heard a better voice than this. Every bottle of whiskey, every cigarette, every "I'dont't believe in my voice" is in that. It's the perfect voice. I miss you.
Haunting. I miss him so much. His loss has hit me like John Lennon. A guy whom I've never met but admire and miss everyday. Mark's memoir also hit me at another level. I can relate to so much that he went through. Makes me weep over the fact that he cleaned up and had to leave us so soon.
Sorry to respond a year late, don't feel the need to respond (unless you want to). I'm with ya though, it sucks, but this kinda life if it doesn't get ya when you're down, gets ya when you've finally made it. Your body's age may not be the same age as you are in years. Shit takes a serious toll. I personally would be happy to make it out of my 20s and live into my 50s, at least I'm saying now; so young and so stupid. Live fucked and die once I'm finally happy. His life was absolutely a firework though, and for a firework, it was slow burning which I am grateful for. May not be living as long as is average, but for his lifestyle, he made it far, Mark Lanegan was incredibly resilient. Love his music and just his awesome personality. As fucked as he may be, it's not like I knew him or even saw him live, but he truly excelled in certain areas, and had a real soul in him. God bless him and may he rest in peace.
You kidding me? These guitarists are evoking spirits... this is the best I've seen close up... Lanegan's vibed too but for the love of Jesus, feel these 'tarists...
Obhhh listening to him reading Sing Backwards was an incredible experience. The honesty about his addiction was so brutal but needed to be told and his voice is breathtaking even whilst speaking. I joined Audible just to hear him read his story. Hugely powerful 💥🩸😿
Been in love with Mark since The trees , and still am ,had the pleasure of seeing him live a few years ago ..it was a dream come true ..I'm 60 now so I guess I can die happy...bless you Mark you have enriched my life .
Saw him during 2 decades with many of his projects, all in Amsterdam and Utrecht. He never dissapointed. Worth every step of the way. Then again, i lived downtown in Utrecht those days, not so many steps.
What a sad, beautiful and very unique voice! It really touched me. And ever since I heard this song Mark Lanegan was my all time favorite singer. I had the pleasure to see him in concert six times and will really miss him.
DANG!! this guy's voice is like chocolate and whiskey mixed together...like valium for my brain...c'mon ..if I had voice like that I would sing every goddamn word leaving my mouth...
Yep dude. I know it. "Too much blood I'm starting to drown"..haha Definitely my nr one vocalist at the moment, too bad Layne isn't around anymore. Mad season was just pure beauty. :D cheers mate
How can such a simple melody line (bass?) be utterly mesmerizing for the whole 5 plus minutes. I suppose his voice also helps! Man- just fantastic...only took me 9 and a half years to catch up to this! Better late than never.
One of the greatest vocalists of all time in my opinion. Gutted I missed out on seeing him perform live. Back together with Layne, they were soul brothers for sure ❤
Also mark I miss your music so much I hope you are Happy naw Mark so sorry for your amazing wife her struggle must be so immense special people always leave a mark that can never be repaired xx
Was lucky enough to see Mark at Leeds festival 2004 after buying Bubblegum. Brilliant album and Brilliant live show. My only regret is not seeing him again. RIP 😪

The Woman's name is Shelley Brien. Lanegan's longterm girlfriend. She sings backing vocals on Quiver Syndrome on his latest album, Blues Funeral. You can see her giving the old lion's mane a trim on the inner sleeve of the album. Great tattoos, great voice.
GO TO A BOOKSHOP BUY HIS AUTOBIOGRAPHY AND BE PREPARED TO HAVE YOUR MIND BLOWN MORE THAN EVER BY A MUSICIAN'S BIO EVER OH AND LAUGH YOUR HEAD OFF COMPLETELY 2. GREAT ARTIST.

Mark Lanegan is a crazy widely ranged vocalist starting back with Screaming Trees thiis song remindes me of the greatest vocalist ever Layne Staley In Mad Season river of deceit, which Mark did back for Layne at Seattle's Moore Theater in 1996 grunge the best years of music for me. Classy Mark and Layne good friends make good music peace

Totally agree with you! I just wish I had the chance to see him live !!! He is/was so much more than just the Front-man for The "Screaming Tree's...so so so much more!
It is mark! He is a salty old bird now. He's probably forgotten more than most folks will ever know about music and collaboration and how to write a story. My hat is off to him.
18 years ago some genius decided to invite a legend to perform a few songs in front of a small audience in a church on the west coast of Ireland and a whole new generation of Lanegan fans were born. We shall never see his like again
Lanegan will be remembered one day as the heart and soul of what meaning is in life....He is a Van Gogh that deserves the credit rather than when 6 ft under.

I had no idea that was his wife. She must be listening to this song a lot these days....
@@chloen3020 He already sang it with Wendy Rae Fowler, his first wife..
I don't think this is one of his songs with a personal meaning to her.
I think she is absolutely stunning
🎉
Welcome to the Mark Lanegan fan club. He is the best vocalist of our era.
Awesome talent
Long time member here!!
As much as i love Lannegan ans his swampy voice, for me the best vocalist of this Era IS Matt Berringer from The National...
Most warm, virile, masculine voice!!
This is not 'our era' anymore, I'm afraid...:(
At this moment in time, perhaps the coolest two people on the planet
Most underrated singer of this time. Blues Funeral is also fantastic!
hammettfcb blues funeral is my favorite lovelovelovelovelove mark lanegan
blues funeral is a great album man
My favorite
Along with Bill Callahan ,very similair gravel honed their voices both reminding me of Ian Curtis .
Blues Funeral was my gateway album into Mark's solo stuff then I was hopelessly hooked...
I've heard like every band and singer in this world bit I've never heard a better voice than this. Every bottle of whiskey, every cigarette, every "I'dont't believe in my voice" is in that. It's the perfect voice. I miss you.

Dark, intense, sorrowful voice. Lanegan is a legend!

How am just hearing this? Mindblowing.
Better late than never. Where have you gone from here?

these two guys are hot! agreed. then comes the whisky-smooth voice…. such an intelligent balance
Check out his autobiography. It's soo beautifully written. He also narrates on audible.
I just finished listening to "Sing Backwards and Weep" on Amazon audibles. Sad and moving. Happy that Mark narrated it.

Ethereal!
I think he ses we got married in a fever a reference to a Johnny Cash song he did with June Carter
While i.like "buried in a fever" it is in fact Married..from ring of fire by Jonny and June Cash
This is outstanding! Love the dirty guitar too.
Absolutely love this man, so flipping talented! His voice is incredible.
