When your favorite band covers your favorite band
Exactly!
Must’ve loved seeing them tour together. I was kinda pissed that AiC was the opening act
Rightt
@@ladystoneheart8155 If Layne was still alive korn would've opened. It doesn't seem William Duvall gets a lot of love in the music world.
Yup
I love how Alice doesn’t really have beef with any other bands.. Everybody just seems to love them.
There's some footage of Metallica poking fun at Layne's addiction from back in the day. But Metallica are dicks.
@@rondixon2578 Kirk and Rob aren't Cliff isn't either
@@rondixon2578 That show you mention started my animosity towards James Hetfield a long time ago...
@@kristiecornell5723 I agree but James and Lars have enough douche in them to make up for the others.
@@rondixon2578 Truth
I loved how respectful they were to the original for 99% of the song and then give it a little Korn flair for only the last verse.
There is more KoRn influence during the cover, the fast chorus effect notes at 1:33 for example
I missed the choppy alternate picking in the final verse.
Even then it was just barely. I think its more, the whole song had the subtle Korn flare, really.
@@jadbouaidi7171 Indeed. Also the bass sound is unique of Korn
Stupid badass cover
No-one can get close to competing with Layne's vocals, but seriously, this is one of the best Would covers I've ever heard. Fantastic job.
It's a bit ironic b/c every band's original front man or any original band members can't be replaced, BUT I do think they did a great job bringing in Willian Duvall as a replacement and you can definitely tell that he has that Layne influence in his singing voice. Imagine if Layne was around at the time when they released their song "Stone"...that shit would have been amazing.
Cantrell himself isn't that far apart from Layne's level.
@@NNNeroK Sorry, but I'll have to disagree with you on that one. Jerry is actually a fine singer, and grew in confidence thanks to Layne encouraging him to sing more.
The 2 of them together created some beautiful harmonies, but only a select few in the whole history of rock or metal could possibly do justice to songs such as "Love, Hate, Love" (not close to my fave AIC song, but the most vocally gymnastic), "Rooster", "I stay Away" and err, let's be honest - all of them.
Yes, it turns out Jerry is a pretty good singer, but no - nothing near Layne's level. I haven't listened to the whole catalogue of rock singers ever in history, but from what I have heard Dio & Dickenson are the only comparables I can think of.
The autotune helps
Opeth has an excellent cover. Really fucking good.
Mike Starr never gets the credit he deserves for making one of the best bass riff ever.
The bass is sick af!!
not sure if he wrote it considering jerry wrote most stuff, super simple bass riffs but mike starr was a sexy badass that played his part well for sure!
@@HahnGFX Jerry wrote the song lyrics an of course guitar an its about Andrew Wood of course but the bass line was Mike Starr . like most AIC songs Jerry an Layne wrote them but the bass lines are all Mike.
@@4200timeB how do you know that? The song is credited musically only to Jerry. Guitar players often come up with bass lines for their own songs too.
@@amostlyreasonableguy Because when they recorded the song they let Mike improvise with the bass
Wow. Who knew Fieldy could tune his bass that high.
Still tuned to A, he is playing the E string which is tuned to D by default in Korn's tuning :)
🤣
@@nimhard you missed the joke because fieldy usually just beats the piss outta the B string. Haha
He didn’t. They are in standard Korn tuning
There's no clickity-clackity....
I think this is probably the best cover I've seen of would cause Jonathan isn't trying to sing like Layne Staley, he's singing like a korn song which is great.
You should look for the one that Opeth did
Not a “die hard” Korn fan but they have well and truly earned their keep... and this is hands down the best cover of ‘Would’ I have ever heard! They truly honor the song and AIC. Massive respect!
I would suggest Opeth's cover of Would. Probably my favorite but Korn did great
Well said, my sentiments exactly
u must b kiddin’ man. Layne is twisting in his grave ...so am I. this sounds like an amateur demo. be troll or be serious
@@korsunhoox Layne is dead
He can't move in his grave, silly
@@korsunhoox I agree, this was horrible lol yikes
Can we just appreciate how amazing Ray Luzier is? Incredible drummer.
Good yes! Incredible no!
@@dandonohue7721 based on? Having had lessons off Ray at two Korn shows in the UK, as well as having been a drummer for nearly 27 years, I can honestly say he's one of the best. Plus he's an awesome person.
John bonam was incredible. The drummer from rush also, incredible! But what do I know I'm not a drummer 🤣
@@dandonohue7721 during the years I taught drums, I had students that would be so worried about making mistakes while playing. I used to say "Don't worry, 99% of the people watching you play aren't musicians. They're there to have a good time and enjoy the shiny things and loud noises! They won't have a clue whether you made a mistake or not!"
Thank you for illustrating that point XD and yes, John Bonham and Neil Peart were incredible drummers. So are many, many others in their own right. Before my first lesson with Ray, I watched him warming up. He was playing 6 stroke rolls on the rim of the snare drum. That's 6 hits with the right, followed by 6 hits with the left, in rapid succession. It's not always about the flashy, it's about the finesse, how cleanly you play and making it mean something.
Thanks for coming to my TED talk!
David’s sound and drumming style is better and better for korn , the band has not been the same without him. Ray is a good drummer but David has unique style that is Korn
Love the detuned low sound of this with Korn's 7 strings... this sounds exactly as I would imagine it in my head, if Korn covered it.
If Korn became a band that only did covers, I would not be mad. All of the covers they have made are incredible. Word Up is still my favorite by them.
this cover is so good! they way they gave it that signature Korn sound but still stayed true to the song.
They should just go ahead and do an entire album of AIC covers .This sounds amazing
@@bluecollarjay2959 i'd buy the fuck out of it.
If you liked that cover, check out this one:

That´s what I was talking about! They didn´t just try to make a copy!
Fuck that.
Sounds like over produced pop bullshit. Lazy as fuck, too clean, too empty and an insult to the original.
I was 15 when Dirt was released and 17 when Korn’s first album was released. I’m 44 now and I still listen to both. This cover is a brilliantly done tribute.
I do too. It was a great time for music. I turn 44 in 6 days....
I’m 54 and haven’t missed Korn’s concert since 1998. AOC was my first heavy CD saw them once but had a few beers. Korn’s is best but I will cherish Alice.
Im 42 still listen to both.
The good ol days of music
40, same... these groups have been there for some of my darkest hours.
Unreal how bad music’s become... Glad we still have bands like Korn to carry the torch.
That bass line….the pounding drums…the psychedelic guitar effect this song in particular is a though it was made for Korn…it just translated soo friggin well
Right!!! I am in disbelief at the awesomeness of this cover
That just flat out kicked ass. They “Korn”-ified it just enough but still stayed true to the original feel. And that ending! OMG it slapped me right in the heart!!
OMG fantastic!!!
It's gross how AIC and Soundgarden don't even have a section honoring them in Museum of Pop. They are the best two bands that ever came out of Seattle.
Perhaps permission needs to be sort? Who knows. Have you ever asked.
@@Pauldjreadman yeah and there is no reason
The fuck is the museum of pop
@@jjmadoublen7375 I checked again and they said they are working on it

Uhh, eh
Yes!!
no this is very much boring syotos vibe
Nowhere 90s style for me, but still loved it.
head back in the band makes a HUGE difference....
I love how they put their own spin to this legendary song, well done!!👏
but phil's version you don't like... why?))
@@SERYPHOTOUS found phil
@@SERYPHOTOUS phil did a damn fine job on his version, but it just didn't work well. his voice carries its own weight like laynes but in a completely different way that just doesnt mesh well with that song.
if he did something off of tripod, it definitely would have worked a lot better because of the albums sludgey nature.
i see you everywhere on videos related to alice in chains
It would be an Alice in Chains video with a the step monkey comment.
Love Korn. Worship Alice in Chains. This is probably the BEST cover I've heard to date. Brings tears to my eyes.
I agree
This song works surprisingly well with Korn singing style and guitar tone
Such a chilling rendition that could only come from Korn🎶 Layne would be so proud!
I cant stop listening
🔥🖤🔥
🤟
I get chills every time I hear this song.
This is without a doubt my favorite AIC cover of all time. Korn absolutely deserves all the recognition they receive and this cover solidified that. Laynes voice is fuckin damn near impossible to replicate, and Jonathan did an absolutely phenomenal job, along with the rest of the fellas as usual. 🤘
Nothing can beat the original but this is a wicked tribute.
i've never understood this saying that nothing can beat the original in cover songs.. it's just a tribute to a legendary band that got an award. they're not trying to out-do the original by any means..
@@spectre722 in my opinion, Korn made a wonderful tribute. It's a matter of fact that I put this tribute on my playlist since december

@U Betcha i think you're saying terms without knowing what they mean
This was great! Gave me chills. Thank you Korn.
This is a really good version but no body hits the "BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACK" like Layne did....
whoever mixed this has serious talent
I'm not much of a Korn fan but they pretty much nailed this perfectly.
You should check their cover of Metallica's One at MTV Icon.
Korn's guitarist really nailed that Pink Floyd ABITW solo too.
Even an unfan should give their Wall pts 1,2 etc a listen. Enjoy!
Nope

The last 10 seconds is so damn heavy. Never fails to give me chills
Straight up gave me chills at the end and had me emotional throughout!! I love that instead of trying to hard to sound like Alice in Chains version - they did an Alice in Chains song in their own style with tons of respect to the original - just awesome guys 🤩🙌
In all the covers of I’ve heard of would, no one can scream/moan/growl “In to the flood again…” anything like Layne could
"Moan"
specifically, nobody hits the open throat when it comes time to sing the word "baaaaaack" in the chorus...
Agree 100% . was thinking the same thing
its probably damaging to the throat? but its also what makes the song special
no doubt. Laynes voice was all on its own.
I didn't expect it to sound like Layne and have heard 100's of covers..
Not blowing smoke, this is the best..
It sounds like Layne, but it's very much original at the same time.
Sounds nothing like Layne are you kidding?
@@jensclarberg6419 I don't think it does..no one will ever sound like Layne or Cornell..however, this is a great cover..

@@BradCross1982 i know its annoying, i would pay GOOD money to somehow have 1994 korn cover this
The solo sounds AMAZING. Minimalistic, haunting and all-around creepy. Awesome job!
Probably my favorite AIC song. No one can hit Layne’s notes and put in the emotion and soul Layne had singing.
Layne by far 1 of the most unique vocalist i ever heard that saying this is a awesome rendition!

Goosebumps ❤❤❤❤. I love it that Korn did it with their own sound yet respected Alice in Chains!!!
How did i not know about this til now?! Their covers are always on point
This song fits Korn's style so well it's insane. Perfect song to cover!
What makes this cover so incredible is Korn's ability to capture the darkness, vulnerability and hopelessness that the original offers...then they obviously tweaked it a bit by adding that ominous underlying feeling that Korn does so well.
you explained what i was hearing/feeling. thanks
Korn covers hit different man. AIC, Metallica, Pink Floyd. When i was a teenager living in the middle east i walked into a record store and picked up their first album by pure chance because i liked the cover art. The rest is history.
Their 2019 tour was my favourite show I've ever seen. I would never have believed that they would tour together because they're so musically distinct from each other, but it was so cool to witness them cross paths like that, and like this.
Not a huge Korn fan, but they really killed it with this cover. Well done.

I was thinking how it would've been cool to see more of their sound on it in that way. It was a faithful cover, but not very exciting in the way that old-school Korn was.
@@forestcochran4196 I guess they wanted to pay their respect to AiC so kept it minimal with their rendition, in the end still reminding all of us how amazing the KoRn sound is
They nailed the bassline and drums and harmonies and the song because of it. Davis did well on the vocals with that Korn guitar. Nice.
No surprise. What ever they perform, they master it! Life long Korn fan.

He absolutely does not. Running out of steam once the chorus kicks in. But comparing to Layne is a bit unfair for almost any singer.

His singing doesn't even compare with what he is capable of. The melody doesnt has octave jumps, but original had. 6/10
