When I heard the news of Mark’s passing, I couldn’t help but cry. I have NEVER, in my nearly 33 years on this rock, shed a tear over the passing of a celebrity before, but this one was different. I discovered Mark Lanegan thru a music teacher showing me the Mad Season album, I heard Long Gone Day and I had to hear more of that voice. His words, and his incredible voice spoke to me on a level I hadn’t expected, nor experienced before. Of course, while I didn’t know him personally, I felt like he knew me and I “knew” him, if that makes any sense. When I found out he’d passed, it was like losing an old friend I hadn’t seen or spoken to in years. Then, on 3/25/22, we lost Taylor Hawkins and I felt the same way I did when I found out Mark passed away. The only times I’ve ever felt personally affected by the loss of a public figure, and both within a month of each other, almost to the day. I don’t normally get affected when a famous person or celebrity dies, but these two were different. The loss of Mark Lanegan & Taylor Hawkins hurt… a lot. Rest In Peace, you two fucking legends. 💔😭
Lanegan was laynes bestest friend for years and toured with them when the trees opened for Alice all over the globe and lanegan said watching layne was the single most impressive male vocal performances he’d ever seen and he’d watch from side stage in awe night after night, must be so deep for him to cover Alice songs he watched layne sing a hundred times
I love how Mark described Layne as “magical”. I got the impression they were real sweet with each other. Rip to both beautiful talented souls, I hope they are hanging out up there ✨💛✨
@search4truth I would have loved to have seen any of them back then, was planning on seeing ML at Sonic Temple, but didn’t. If it would have been him with Mad Season I would have, didn’t know his solo work, but “locomotive” and especially “Slip Away” r my favs from the Mad Season album🤘🏻I hate it when I have to kick myself in the ass for not following thru with shit, always think next time, but next times don’t always come around, damnit
@search4truth the Foo Fighters played Sonic Temple, main headliners on Sunday, but I’m kicking myself in the ass on that one as well. They evacuated because of a storm and instead of going back in to see them we decided to go ahead and start the 5 hour trip home(esp. since we were already in our vehicle). Foo Fighters played for 2 freak🆖hours! Dumb Dumbs for making that choice! If only there were Do-Overs🤘🏻
This song still breaks me up. I still remember sitting in my pickup truck in the parking the day Layne died listening to my Sap cassette over and over crying till I decided to skip the day of classes, get something to eat and start fresh tomorrow. Bittersweet.
ya man I remember the moment I found out too.. what a tragic day for music. after Layne went I was sure AIC was done. lucky for us Jerry Cantrell said the show must go on. I really like the new singer.
I was eating at a Pizza Hut with our bassist and potential new drummer, and the subject of influencing bands came up. I immediately mentioned Alice and the drummer looks at me and says “oh you know he died right?” I thought he was just being an asshole until I got home and saw the news
Its cool that Nancy's sister Ann sang on the original version of this track and now here she is almost 30 years later singing on it in place of her sister. Brilliant cover
Yeah, that's Liv Warfield doing the real singing. Let's be real: Nancy isn't doing much here but looking awkward. :/ the cover that Ann did was much more natural, but still pretty awkward also. These women simply don't actually know this music or listen to it and it shows.
@@tysonhenry37 I have probably known who Layne Staley and AIC are longer than you have. I was just making a general reference to how great of a version this is. Go away.

Jerry needs to write music with everyone lol, absolute genius, he’d probably make magic with Nancy and just about every other musician who performed at this AiC tribute

The thought that Layne is in Mark's soul makes it so good.
