I had met JYD a few months before his death in the Walmart in Covington, LA. He and I talked for a bit, he was signing autographs, and he was telling me about trying to restart Mid-South Wrestling, or something like it, in the New Orleans area, and that he was going to be bringing in some big names. Offered to help get me into the business if I was interested. (I'm 6'1 and was about 275 then, at 27). I thanked him, got an autograph and a picture, and then he visited my friend's dojo the next day or so, trying to recruit enhancement guys or future wrestlers. He passed very shortly after that. RIP
I remember seeing JYD's last public appearance on ECW Wrestlepalooza 98.
He looked out of shape but Ritter was able to do his JYD dancing.
If WWE had a Hall of Fame in 97 or 98, Junkyard Dog would've been in and accepted the award himself since he was one of the most memorable superstars of the Rock n Wrestling Era.
I saw the junkyard dog outside an arena in Huntington West Virginia and I tried to get an autograph, I was only like 12 and was nervous and he was arguing with two Random people and yelling profanity and I was shocked and never got the autograph and was really let down... and he wasn't in WWF long after that.
Don't worry.. I doubt he remembered it enough for it to have hurt his feelings any.
I remember his tribute on RAW.
I was too young the time to have see him wrestle.
It's not like you missed much, he was complete crap in the ring.
Trillionaire Ted wouldn't dare associate with degenerates that work at the local junk yards then come to wrassle. Maybe in his humble beginnings he and the dog could associate, but time passed man...he became a million dollar man and life changed. Trillionaire Ted soon had a rivalry with that no good vitamin popping muscle man, the Hulkster, he simply wouldn't lose to him & give him the much deserved belt.
Dont forget bobo brazil
The one Bobo mentored"The Big Cat" Ernie Ladd.
I think the Junkyard dog last wrestling promotion was Memphis, the USWA in the mid 90s before his passing
He last steady work was for NWC in Las Vegas. His last match was against Red Roberts for NWA Florida
