Stagger Lee with the quick work! The world may never know who the masked wonder reminiscent of the Junkyard Dog was. It remains an unsolved mystery to this day. Mid South GOAT!
I spend the last few years trying to uncover the man behind the mask. Using the latest DNA technology,I have concluded, without a shadow of doubt, that Stagger Lee is GREG GAGNE!
I miss this era of Wrestling. All the territories were great!!! I grew up in Gordon Alabama...about 20 miles south of Dothan Alabama. Ron & Robert Fuller owned the territory around Dothan...it was called Southeastern Championship Wrestling & every Friday night at the Houston Co Farm Center was sold-out or just about sold-out. Then Saturday morning we would go to the WTVY CH.4 Studios & watch the matches be taped for the Saturday afternoon show at 5:00. There was no lightshow, no ring entrance music, no silly gimmicks. Just Real Wrestling at it's finest & the WRESTLERS all looked so real. They looked like they just walked out of a bar & were ready to fight someone. They gave their all to make sure they sold the punches, told the story, & made sure all the Wrestling fans were entertained & got 5heir money's worth. The territory Wrestling was the stuff... 1.Southeastern Championship Wrestling 2.World Class Championship Wrestling 3.Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling 4.Mid-South Championship Wrestling 5.Georgia Championship Wrestling 6.Flordia Championship Wrestling 7.SouthWest Championship Wrestling 8.Gulf Coast Championship Wrestling 9.Memphis Championship Wrestling 10.International Championship Wrestling 11.Mid-West Championship Wrestling
Someone on YT does a great job of posting wrestling title histories (jbravos). Looking back at all the greats the came through and wore Mid-South gold, I want to watch as much old footage as possible. Thanks youtube!!!
Mid-South wrestling was more entertaining than WWE ever could be... There were more stars, better shows and I couldn't wait til it would come on... Wrestling will never be the same without these legends...
Omg, This takes me back. I saw that match when I was a kid. It was awesome. JYD got suspended and this mystery man showed up out of nowhere days later named Stagger Lee. But it was a masked Junkyard Dog. The suspense was EPIC !
FYI: The backstory is JYD lost a match to DeBiase where he had to leave Mid South for 90 days. DeBiase beats him..he "leaves" per the deal and a week later Stagger Lee shows up.
These were back in the day when they knew how to sell a match and work an angle. Every word didn't have to be scripted and it was more entertaining to me.
We all knew..thats what made it fun. I recall JYD did a bench press skit and there was a guy dressed in Stagger Lee outfit to PROVE JYD wasnt Lee....and JYD didnt allow the commentator to talk to Lee. It was great.
Travis McDonald- I liked Ted Diabase much better when he was with the Mid-South UWF. I hated when he left went to join the WWF and became the million dollar man. Miss the days of watching him and Dr. Death Steve William-Terry Taylor-Hacksaw Duggan. Actually if Ted Diabase had not let the UWF he would have beat Terry Gordon and become the UWF heavyweight champ. He had already beat Terry Gordy in a untitled match. Not of fan of Vince MCMahon and his WWF circus-Lol
Yep, sorry....I should have had my sarcasm come through stronger. Anyone who watched any wrestling back then knew in two seconds who those two "mystery" wrestlers were. And I agree: I loved those Saturdays watching classic wrestling too!
Midsouth wrestling was the greatest show on earth back in the day. And yes it was obviously JYD. He had lost a loser leave town match to Dibiase. So this is how he got around that with the Stagger Lee get up
Ted DiBiase was great the way he was prepared to sell, and to be humiliated by face opponents, like Stagger Lee, Brad Armstrong, 123-Kid and others. Not many heels were prepared to go to such lengths for the game.
I liked how the Faces when forced into the masked disguise became just as dirty as the Heels - ie Stagger Lee headbutting Dibiase with a foreign object just like Dusty Rhodes as the Midnight Rider I remember when Dusty Rhodes came out in a darkened arena and "hung" Tully Blanchard a little while after Rhodes was suspended for attacking Blanchard with a baseball bat. The crowed marked out and so did I while watching on the TV.
Good heavens! Randy "Pee Wee" Anderson (Whom Jim Cornette lovingly called "The World's Tallest Midget") in tights and boots. Looks like a prototype for Rey Mysterio
This takes me back to being a teenager. Today's wrestling just isn't as much fun to watch. Not all wrestlers are super stars it seems to cheapen the pot. Also the storylines were much better. So much more entertaining.
This brings tears to my eyes for the memories. JYD lost a week earlier in a loser leave town match to Debiase The neighborhood was jumping when we saw this because everyone knew Stagger Lee was the Junkyard Dog
c0uchsl0uch yep, JYD. That's why crowd erupted, because we all knew it. A week earlier everyone was sad because he lost a loser leave town match whereas Debiase cheated against dog.
Dibiases facial expressions and the way he sold everything here is priceless and this is what has been missing for 25 years now.
And the millions missing in Missippi welfare care
One of the best entrances ever. I remember when I was a kid when this happened. We all went crazy!! Great memories.
That and seeing the lead villain get his ass kicked. :D
Me too
Yep..i watched it too...I was confused..whos this??? Instantly I knew who it was.
Stagger Lee with the quick work! The world may never know who the masked wonder reminiscent of the Junkyard Dog was. It remains an unsolved mystery to this day.
Mid South GOAT!
I remember DeBiase losing his $hit in every interview afterwrds: "ITS JYD!!!! YOU KNOW ITS JYD!!! WHY ISNT ANYONE LISTENING TO ME!!!!"
It was Koko b ware
I remember me & my best friend watching this on TV back during that time.
I miss the mid south, best territory ever.
Municipal Auditorium, and St Bernard
I SO MISS the old Mid-South Wrestling along with the Georgia World Championship Wrestling with Gordon Solie!!!
i agree
@@keithandrewbounds967 which one was better in your opinion?
I remember going to the matches at Barton Coliseum in Little Rock, Ar! The last of the good ole days!
I was there and the crowd erupted when Stagger Lee came down the stairs.
"Who was Stagger Lee?" ranks right up there with another great wrestling mystery of our time, "Who was the Midnight Rider?"
From Diablo Canyon
Junkyard dog was stagger lee
@@collegefootballjunkys8221 you have any proof of that?
I spend the last few years trying to uncover the man behind the mask. Using the latest DNA technology,I have concluded, without a shadow of doubt, that Stagger Lee is GREG GAGNE!
Im from Lake Charles Louisiana Mid South was the best and JYD was a wrestling God in Louisiana along with Rock and Roll Express followed by Jim Duggan
Gavin LaCour I live in Houma. I’ve been watching wrestling for 33 years.
Mid South was the best
I grow up watching&reading wrestling &stagger lee is the great JYD R.I.P!
Thanks for posting this....it brought back some GREAT childhood memories watching Mid-South wrestling!!!

That was just beautiful. I remember it like yesterday
I'm almost ashamed to admit that I remember watching this match "live" on TV. Must have been this one because I remember the "S Lee" joke.
Someone on YT does a great job of posting wrestling title histories (jbravos).
Looking back at all the greats the came through and wore Mid-South gold, I want to watch as much old footage as possible. Thanks youtube!!!
Dibiase was an awesome heel that understood the business. He could wrestle, talk, generate heat, and sell.
I remember that like it was yesterday the fastest match I’ve ever seen
I sure remembered this when it happened. it was 1 week after jyd lost a loser leave town match for 90 days to ted debiase
Bryant that is correct. And as soon as the days were up, Stagger Lee left for parts unknown never to be heard from again.
You're spot on. I remember that as well.
from that loaded glove. If you put a washer into a bowling glove, you can knock out a horse.
FYI: The backstory is JYD lost a match to DeBiase where he had to leave Mid South for 90 days. DeBiase beats him..he "leaves" per the deal and a week later Stagger Lee shows up.
They didn’t workplace verification back then
Such a brilliant angle.
I saw Stagger Lee wrestling as a kid in Oklahoma City in the 80s at the old Myriad Convention Center back in the day. MAAAAN what great memories.
JYD looked in shape this time
Junk food dog
He was unbelievably jacked and strong during most of his Mid-South run-he gained weight the following year
That was stagger Lee not jyd...dau...
“THAT’S STAGGAH LEE, BRO!“
- Vince Russo
Butch Reed beat him into shape
What an early 80's southern crowd.
They could have been extras in Smokey and the Bandit!
These were back in the day when they knew how to sell a match and work an angle. Every word didn't have to be scripted and it was more entertaining to me.
Ah the memories, Irish McNeil Boys Club in my hometown of Shreveport, La. That was the first time I ever heard that iconic hall of fame laugh.
Great storytelling 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 2021
Even as a kid I could tell that Stagger Lee was JYD...that head butt, the walk and potbelly was a give away.
No it was Koko Ware
We all knew..thats what made it fun. I recall JYD did a bench press skit and there was a guy dressed in Stagger Lee outfit to PROVE JYD wasnt Lee....and JYD didnt allow the commentator to talk to Lee. It was great.
Ted Dibase was the best pure talent of the 1980’s. Hogan and Flair where phenomenal, but Dibiase was just amazing.
Travis McDonald- I liked Ted Diabase much better when he was with the Mid-South UWF. I hated when he left went to join the WWF and became the million dollar man. Miss the days of watching him and Dr. Death Steve William-Terry Taylor-Hacksaw Duggan. Not in this match against Stagger Lee
The star of the night was clearly Pee Wee Anderson
Pee Wee was tough.
Pee Wee shared an apartment in Baton Rouge with Marty Lunde. He ran errands for JYD.
Man! That Stagger Lee could give Junkyard Dog a run for his money! 🤣🤣🤣
Nah even JYD admitted Stagger could still take his milk money
Pee Wee Anderson..... Another week in Mid - South. Great Stuff.
What's with the banner? Didn't get that part...
The beginning of the million dollar man
DiBiase could sell a diabolical cackle even before he found a home in Beverly Hills.😏B.W.
Back in CWF, does anyone remember Mr. Florida, who actually Paul Jones. The prominent giveaway was his chin.
I miss this era of wrestling.
In 2021, Lloyd Price the guy who recorded The Rockabilly Classic "Stagger Lee" passed away. R.I.P., Sir.😔🎼🎸🎷🤼♂️B.W.
Yep, sorry....I should have had my sarcasm come through stronger. Anyone who watched any wrestling back then knew in two seconds who those two "mystery" wrestlers were. And I agree: I loved those Saturdays watching classic wrestling too!
Hell yeah the man walked pigeon toed like JYD the signature bodyslam thump at the end no doubt it was JYD but that was entertainment to us back then
Midsouth wrestling was the greatest show on earth back in the day. And yes it was obviously JYD. He had lost a loser leave town match to Dibiase. So this is how he got around that with the Stagger Lee get up
That Clothesline was VERY Stiff
Damn I was a young kid when I saw this J y D
Stagger Lee was the Junkyard Dog behind the mask
RIP JYD MID SOUTH
Lawd!! I miss this !!
Is that Dean Ambrose reffing the match?
that is Alfred Neely. I remember I used to HATE him as a kid because he ALWAYS got knocked out or wasnt looking when a heel did something dirty haha
Did y'all hear that "pop"
DiBiase didn't know to what to do. SHit or go blind after seeing all that green and red!
FLORIDA A & M COLORS
Stagger Lee was obviously from South of the border... I mean, look at that luchador gettup he's wearing!!
HoustonIsImmortal LOL!!!
HoustonIsImmortal i believe he is a cousin of the Conquistadors
Judging by his gear in this MidSouth clip, Stagger Lee must've been a Miami Hurricanes fan!😂😏🎤🏈🍊🌞🌴🤼♂️B.W.
Barton coulsem Little Rock,Ar
I cant believe this is real. I thought it was just some convoluted childhood memory. I love the internet.
dibiase was an incredible actor. that laugh was infectious, and you just believed these guys. today's wrestling isn't as good.
That's Pee Wee Anderson!!!
That laugh! No one else compares.Teddy, you should have had the NWA strap at least one time. You're a legend nevertheless.
Mid SOuth was the best
Just watched a Dutch Mantel shoot. Koko B. Ware.
JYD is Stagger lee
Cant prove it 🤷♀️
What I liked about this was the fans knew it was JYD, Dibiase knew it was JYD. He didn’t play dumb
I've got it! Rufus R. Jones was Stagger Lee!
No it was SD Jones.
Clearly Tony Atlas lol
JYD
Is that peewee Anderson
Ted DiBiase was great the way he was prepared to sell, and to be humiliated by face opponents, like Stagger Lee, Brad Armstrong, 123-Kid and others. Not many heels were prepared to go to such lengths for the game.
He even had the Million Dollar Man laugh back then.
I laughed and cheered when that turncoat Dibiase got his rear-end handed to him . When Stagger Lee hit the ring we all knew who was under that mask.
Back when it was real!
I liked how the Faces when forced into the masked disguise became just as dirty as the Heels - ie Stagger Lee headbutting Dibiase with a foreign object
just like Dusty Rhodes as the Midnight Rider
I remember when Dusty Rhodes came out in a darkened arena and "hung" Tully Blanchard a little while after Rhodes was suspended for attacking Blanchard with a baseball bat. The crowed marked out and so did I while watching on the TV.
Anyone here after watching that Territories series? I think it was a vice series
koko beware
Good heavens! Randy "Pee Wee" Anderson (Whom Jim Cornette lovingly called "The World's Tallest Midget") in tights and boots. Looks like a prototype for Rey Mysterio
Stagger lee was 2nd favorite wrestler just behind J.Y.D 🙏
I enjoy it
That was the first time we heard the million dollars laugh.
I remember that match we went crazy as hell. And we all in knew it was JYD in that mask he was wearing.
Pee Wee Anderson!!!
This takes me back to being a teenager. Today's wrestling just isn't as much fun to watch. Not all wrestlers are super stars it seems to cheapen the pot. Also the storylines were much better. So much more entertaining.
:28 The best Million Dollar Man laugh before Ted became the Million Dollar Man
This brings tears to my eyes for the memories. JYD lost a week earlier in a loser leave town match to Debiase
The neighborhood was jumping when we saw this because everyone knew Stagger Lee was the Junkyard Dog
in those days it was widely speculated it was JYD, look at his phisyice, looks like jyd to me
that was the word, even on a episode butch reed said it was jyd
c0uchsl0uch yep, JYD. That's why crowd erupted, because we all knew it. A week earlier everyone was sad because he lost a loser leave town match whereas Debiase cheated against dog.
DIBiase didn't know whether to shit or go blind!!!
Certainly it was NOT Junkyard Dog.
Dibiase and his dad bod! 😂
Now that's what I call SELLING LIKE A MOTHER FUCKER TO PUT A GUY OVER!!! Good job Ted DiBiase!! 👍
Poor Pee Wee.
stiffest clothesline ever
But who could have been under the mask?! We'll never know! Just like Bullet and Charlie Brown from Outta Town!
Dean Ambrose is great as referee here
that is Alfred Neely
For the record, Ambrose was two and a half years from being born when this took place
And another joke flies right by another youtube commenter
Stanger lee vs ted biase💪🤼♂️🤛🤜🇺🇸🇺🇸
