- On this episode of FTP Speed Shop We get the backup camera hooked up in the DuraMax but the image is backwards. It makes it almost impossible to hook up a trailer looking at the camera the is telling you to turn the wrong direction. It turns out that it is a super easy fix to flip the image around, just cut one wire.

This is the kind of videos i like! Explains the problem, shows the solutions and outcomes of what happens! Made my job simple when trying to figure out what flips the image haha
I'm glad to help.
I cut both the white and green wires and the result was amazing. The problem was solved. It took me one minute.
Glad to help
Thanks for the response,
The wire I cut was a white exposed wire loop on the junction of the Rca cable and the power cable that comes off the camera. I did not have to strip anything or open any harness sheathing.
Paul
Try reconnecting it to see if it fixes the video issues
Thanks for that. Cut the white one and added extra line so rejoined and cut the green and sorted the wrong way right 😂
Glad you got it sorted out!
Thank you very much, I drove for a year with a mirror image after this clip fixed it in 15 minutes
You're welcome
My camera has an option for it in the settings and it’s like “why bro.”
I was taught to use the back up camera as a supplement to the rear view and side mirrors… mostly to know how close your back bumper is to an obstacle
Yea I only really use mine to hookup my trailer.
Mines had a blue and a white wire, I cut the white first.. it took the lines away but was still reversed.. cut the blue and it reversed the right way. Tied the white back in to get the lines back now I’m 100% good
Good to know, thanks
Thanks!
Thank you for being my first super!!!!
Top video, exactly the info I was looking for. Thanks mate 👍🏻
Glad to help!
Thanks for saving me thousands in repairs!!
Glad to help!
Thank you broo i had the same problem.you showed the way to fix I didn’t know about it.thank you❤ ❤❤❤
Happy to help.
Saved me a bunch of time and a headache. Thanks!
No problem. I'm glad to help.
Thanks mn. Saved me from buy a new one thinking mine was bad
You're welcome
Thank you! Worked like a charm
I'm glad to help!
It worked ; thanks a lot!!! I cut both and it works like a charm
No problem
Thanks man! Now I can fix the reversal on my humvee.
No problem
Thanks. Had my camera for 3 years and only noticed today that is was reversed in my D-max.
That's a long time not to notice that. But I'm glad I could help
On mine it was the green wire for the flip and white for the lines.
Back to front.
But I am in Australia !
It could be true. Your toilet bowl water does spin backward.
Wht causes the video to flip.. like it was working fine when installed . Then a biker bumped to camera. Ever since its flipped.. left is on right n right on left....
I don't know.. Maybe the bump cut the flip view wire inside the loom?
Jaa this same thing happened to me thanks for sharing
No problem!
does it work for |Ford explorer also ?
Factory camera or aftermarket camera?
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike Factory camera original.
@@galaxy_studio_9712 I would think the factory camera could be switched somehow in the head unit.
Would be helpful if you stated what brand camera this was for. Not obvious if all companies use the same color coding for these functions.....
Link to the camera is in the description. I should stated the brand but I couldn't pronounce it. Haha
What about the image being upside down? Lines are still on the bottom, so not a position issue. Worked fine earlier today????
Hmm that's a weird one, maybe it got wet today
Thanks. I don't understand where is located this white wire? On the side of the power supply connector or on the camera side?
Should be somewhere close to the camera plug side. I don't know what exact camera you have, tho.
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike my camera is without red and yellow connectors. It has one small black female connector, which connects to male connector with 5 pins
@radoslav2596 There should be two wires looped out of the loom on the camera side. The color of wire may be different from the one I used. One of those wires is for the lines and the other is to reverse the image.
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike thanks. Sadly that need to cut the sleeve
@radoslav2596 I would do a little more research before cutting into the harness. If they aren't looped out there may be a different option with your camera. I would hate to have you ruin your camera from my advice of a different camera type
Looks like what I need to try. But why did this need to be done on factory install? 2500hd 2016 just flipped image 2023.
I would bet that if it is 100% factory there is a setting that is messes up
I had blue and white wires on mine. The blue was cut white was not. Cut white nothing. Soldered blue together again and it fixed the image
Nice to know. Sometimes you just got to reconnect what was disconnected.
I just found your video and tried the suggested cut to the white wire. The rusult was that the video was totally scrambled and the screen read " Signal to Rear Camera Lost". Any suggestions?
Were the wires looped and exposed, or did you have to strip the wire sheathing to find the wire you cut? If you had to expose the wires, you cut the wrong one. I would reconnect the wire you cut.
Hi, great tip. Do you know if this works for toyotas???
I do not know. you should look at your wiring harness and see if it has those additional wires.
Carful our wires likely wont match. My white was for the guidelines. Also if you cut the wrong one the wires are very thin they dont want to splice back together.
Good point not all companies use the same color wires.
Awesome! Except mine doesn’t have those wires. Ordered one that does for $15. So lame.
Hope you get the new one working!
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike me too. My trash cans will be happy about it. Never hit them in 15 years. Backed up the first time looking at the camera. Wham.
@powerbychevy haha I totally missed my trailer the first time using.... was like wtf is going here
I did this on mine, but i recently disconnected the battery and now it’s reversed… I guess I need to reconnect the wires for a moment and remove them again?
Hmm, that's kinda crazy. I have disconnected my battery a few times, and it always worked. Maybe just unplug the camera and plug it back in to start.
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike Im gonna try this too, If I touch the cut mirror wires together it flips the image for me lol, so weird
is the camera a 4 pin connector camera?
4 pin
Does this work on a Ford reverse camera ?
I couldn't tell you. I only have experience with this type of camera. I would guess that the factory camera can be adjusted in the settings. But if the camera has looped wires like this one. It might work.
i dont have the little wires and i dont have a high-end unit. what should i do?
Try putting your headset in upside down.... haha don't do this. I'm not sure what the next step should be.
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike probably cause it s a cheap backup cam from china. It’s weird though cause I had my buddy tap the camera on reverse and it flipped to the right orientation. Think there’s a wiring issue?
@skizmx hmm that's weird it would flip when you tap on it. Idk what you should try
@@FullThrottlePerformanceMike yep so weird. I have a replacement unit maybe I’ll see if that works
I have this problem on my 2014 Ford Cmax Energi
Glad to hear you got it fixed
Im trying to find the backup cam you used in this video to purchase it on Amazon. I clicked on your amazon link/shop and its not working. Can you send me your Amazon page and the link to the camera? Thanks!
The link might be down because of the time passed. I will see if I can find a new link.
Damn, you helped me out a lot!
No problem, thanks for watching!!
After installing my backup camera it’s flipped now….. should I cut the white wire?
Flipped like upside-down?
My car has an android device as the screen, and I eventually found a setting called reverse mirror on/off and when I turned it off it flipped it.
A lot of the cheaper head units don't have that option.
Thank you so much for commenting. I have a chinese carplay monitor and I was about to cut the wires before I saw your comment. All fixed! Just had to toggle it off
I have the android head unit and I tried option reverse mirror for the camera and it do nothing
Thanks
No problem!!!
Thank you
You're welcome
Thanks man!!!
No problem
To whom this may concern:
My camera wire doesn't have those 3 little wires , how do I reverse the image?? I'll have a 4 channel Mini MDVR soon and (I THINK) it has image reversing on it?
Some of the higher end units will have image reversing.
Thank you!
Glad to help
Actually, the camera is correct. You reverse the image for convenience. It is like viewing in rear view camera. The problem I have is The video image is reverse in the back video cam recording. Maybe I need to think like I'm reviewing in the rear view camera when I watch rearview recording. LOL
I have no idea what you just said! But if it works for you, do it. Or just cut the wire.
It didn’t work 😭 i am done with it
Sorry to hear that.
For me it was the brown wire.
my image turned 90degrees
Hmm that's a new one I haven't heard of. Maybe try unplugging the camera and plug it back in? Or can you rotate the camera?
Thank you
You're welcome
