Hey...Yu did a awesome job with explaining what exactly is going on and why in this video man this is the best I have seen being that I really didn't get what I needed out of it Yu really did a awesome job man!!!🎉
I was struggling getting a camera RCA through the boot at the top of the hatch and your technique of soap, pulling the plastic out of the ends of the grommet and pulling the RCA backwards totally helped me out. I wish I'd found the video last night. It would have saved me hours of frustration.
Sir, just add a backup camera to my 2016 Ram JVC KW-V850BT head unit, your video tutorial really helped me to resolved camera problems. You are a blessing. Keep up the good work!
The advice on getting through the boot is priceless....I spent 2 hours trying to get through my Grand Cherokee boot until I remembered to use soap (Face in Hands) I had already watched this vid and didn't remember...and although I didn't have a giant sized zip tie...The way the guys looped it makes it much easier. You can't appreciate this stuff until you tangle with it yourself..Great channel ...I stopped getting anything done cause I am always watching!
This Video just saved me a huge headache and a ton of stress... Trying to hook up my F-350 with backup camera and this is EXACTLY what I needed!! Thank you so much
Thank you! I have watched several videos about installing backup cameras and this is the only one suggesting powering the camera from accessory power. Exactly what I was looking for, and this is not the first time I have found what I was looking for on your channel, so you have a new sub here!
And yet you make something I've done 100 times so interesting.... And i learned something, why you put bullet connectors on which wire. Makes sense. Great job as always.
WhyI didn’t watch this video BEFORE, installing the camera ! Now I only have power to the camera when I’m in reverse not being able to set parking assistant ....... thanks a lot
I have the same issue, just had these guys install a pioneer dmh 2500 radio and a back up camera in my Buick lucerne, now the park assist won’t even turn on! Charged me a arm and leg for them to mess my car up, I was pissed
Thanks Guys for your time and knowledge! So many you tube videos are done by people that really don't know what they are doing and its clear you do. I spent a long time in the auto repair business and its nice to see someone that's not installing something in their driveway. Its nice to see you have the right tools and knowledge. Its appreciated. And I got a few new ways to do things like using a big modified nylon tie strap as a snake. Ive been using electricians tapes for pulling wires, nice to have options.
Thanks for this video. You helped me get through some mental blocks I had regarding running power and how to hide the cord. I was able to install a new Pioneer AVH-211EX and a BOYO backup camera in my 2004 Honda Pilot and everything works great.
That was absolutely brilliant. I've just bought a reverse camera and the instructions on mine aren't that great (my car is a Honda Accord with a built in OEM sat/nav/gps screen). The way you explained the power for the camera at the beginning and under what circumstances you might want to use that red wire cleared my confusion with my unit (that these accessories aren't only for my type of vehicle but for all the others out there too, including aftermarket head units). Thank you soooooo much!
It answered enough questions for me to say "Uh, yeah, I'll pay someone else to do it." You explain things very well and I think I'm going to leave this one to the pros.
It's funny because I've done a few backup cameras but I watched anyway. I enjoy these videos, and I often pick up a new trick or two. Never done learning, thanks guys!!
Not sure how I didn't find your videos 2 weeks ago when I STARTED installing my new in dash unit with a back up camera, but man, I'm sure glad I found it today. You guys explain this better than any other channel I've watched for this, and I watched A LOT. Why doesn't everybody wire them up the way you do. It makes it SOOOOOO much easier. I've been trying for 2 WEEKS to get mine working. Granted, I complicated mine a bit because I have a previously installed rear view mounted dual dash cam and backup camera that I'm trying to splice together with the indash. I really don't want to lose my front dash cam's recording feature, so if you guys can give me any kind of hints about how to wire them both up together, or if they can't be wired together (which is what I suspect because the rear view mounted dash cam is on the back of that touch screen and I don't think my cheap little indash will support picture in picture), is there a way to wire it so that I will get the rear camera view on both, and then the dash cam would have to still project to the touch screen on the rear view mount. NOBODY has a video even close to telling you how to do that? And the rear view mirror touch screen currently gets it's power from a 12 volt plug, and I have the port that it's plugged into on a kill switch that I switch off when I stop the engine. I KNOW there's a better way to do that.
Thanks for this video. Today I am getting a Sony xav-ax1000 stereo installed in my 2011 Ford Ranger and will be installing a license plate frame backup camera myself next week. Without your video, I would have just spliced the power wire directly to the reverse wire and wondered why the radio's touch screen camera function wasn't working.
Great tutorial but this might be worth pointing out. Some license plate style units now have bright LEDs that activate when power is delivered to the camera at night. So, if you are constantly powering that kind of a camera those bright LEDs will be on even if you are not in reverse gear. Might be worth considering. Correct me if I am wrong. -Merv Himself
Thank you for this video. It was very informative and I used all the information on here to get my backup cam to work. My first I installation didn't work but I'm pretty sure it was the camera. I bought a new camera and wired it the same as before and it works amazing and I can even look at the camera without backing up. Once again, thank you!
I had seen Dean go over backup camera basics before and I used that video for reference on my recent install. I actually had to undo it and just switch to reverse only as the camera itself had LED lights on it, so they would stay on the whole time the truck was on, hard to be stealthy that way! I will probably pick up the echomaster you talk about in this video, I like the hidden bracketry on it better than my own..as always, keep up the good videos!
Hey Dean and Fernando, I have already connected the cam using the reverse light as a power source. Now, I want continuous power so I can use the "cam view" feature as you described. Can I just tap into the accessory wire behind the Pioneer and splice it to the red cam wire (near the rca male)? Of course the red cam wire is already connected to the reverse gear wire off the Pioneer currently. Will this accomplish my goal? Thanks for all the awesome video over the years!
That shop looks like an old "Al & Ed's Auto Audio I used to work at in Marina Del Rey Cal. (mid 90's) For those with Jeep Grand Cherokee's most from late 80's on up, the Reverse wire in dash is *_White w/ a light green stripe_* under dash, off cluster. then run a relayed 12v supply triggered by the blue/white power antenna wire off radio to camera supply, or for the amp heads, tap off that monster 2 gauge rail thats feeding the Bass-beasts already in the back of your Hoopti Ta-Da!! Its its own voyeur monster viewer
You should slow way down firstly. Otherwise, glad that you explained the differences between a 'backup view only' and 'backup available' options. I have a 'parking brake' wire on the back of my radio harness: does this need to be attached?
So you did not connect the red power wire to the backup lights because you found a backup power wire up front. What if you can't? Then do you keep the power wire in the back (instead of cutting it off) tap into the reverse lights, and then connect the red power wire up front (with the RCA) to the radio trigger wire? Thanks. (Love your videos!)
Can't figure this part out... What did you do with the black wire that the instructions wanted tapped into the reverse light? You capped off the red, but it looks like the black is still dangling.
I noticed you did not mention about disconnecting the battery when working on any vehicle with air bags. People should know this anyway, but you know how it is. Thanks again for another great video 🇺🇸
the last thing you need to worry about is the air bags going off. back when they first came out yes but not its not a concern. when was the last time you saw a AB pop from doing a install of a stereo or back up camera mind you everything is fused now.
Airbags don't go off from not disconnecting the battery when working on the car. I have NEVER seen or heard of this. You may pop a fuse for something but airbags? lol
Chicago1 Maybe you should read my comment again or get someone to read it for you. There are sensors on a vehicle that deploy airbags on impact that are active at all times. That is why you should disconnect the battery when working on a vehicle among other things like shorting something to ground. Maybe you should read the instructions or owners manual before working on your vehicle or maybe your one of those people who like to live on the edge.LOL🇺🇸
Anthony Landry sorry but your wrong i don't know anyone or heard anyone working on their car and the airbag went off. It's a myth bs whatever you wanna call it.millions of people work on their car everyday with the battery not disconnected and how many reports of airbags go off? 0 nada zip zero..maybe you should understand how airbags work. The news media would havr a field day with it. It would be posted all over youtube.twitter Facebook, etc etc..go hall monitor somewhere else. The most damage I heard is maybe blow a few fuses. might as well keep the belief you shouldn't swim 15 mins after you ear. I hate arguing with idiots you never win. Show me proof you won't find any..bye
Dean solved the problem had a kx 400.4 used 2 chanels for the 6 3/4 and the other 2 for the crossover hooked to the 3 inch and the tweeter and they get real loud
I connected everything as per the video as I connected the red "power" wire to the "back up" lights. I did that, because the "back up" lights only get power when the car is put into "reverse." Since I only want my rear view camera to work when my car is in "reverse," I thought that this is the logical way to do it. Well, I am getting a "No Video Signal" message on a black screen! Any advice?
I just need to clarify. So you splice the power wire on the camera to the 12v switched power on the radio harness and you connect the purple wire to the reverse light 12v wire? That's how I understood it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
I have been looking for this video for the longest time to be able to view my backup camera and now my front cameras while in motion and still have the backup camera activate in reverse. I have the Pioneer AVIC-W6500NEX. Thought for a moment I needed to add some diodes. Thanks
TY SOOOO MUCH. I have an 02 ram 1500 slt and if yk anything about this truck it's half 2nd gen half 3rd gen... Spent the whole day hunting for the right wire to connect for yhe reverse switch and such... Basically I said fk it and now have it connected via the 1 positive from the tail light. All I wanted. I think your way is awesome, but I am NOT retapping every wire I just tried in the cab.
So what would happen if you had the camera on through the menu feature , then put the vehicle into reverse? Other then that question it makes total sense.
Great video but I have a question. I've installed a Kenwood DMX7706 with the Maestro RR. There is a purple/white wire coming off of the radio and one coming from the RR. Do I hook both of them up to the trigger wire from the lights or just the one from the back of the radio?
Did you figure it out? I’m hooking a boyo up to the same radio. I can make the camera work as intended on reverse but I’m stumped on the other manual method I’m doing something wrong. Not sure why he says not to use the red in the rear but then turns around and runs a reverse light wire.
I'm installing a backup camera on a 1997 Chevy C1500 this weekend. I got a Pioneer camera and an Alpine radio. The camera is an adhesive mount and I was planning on putting it on top of the receiver hitch. Any tips that would be different for a pickup truck like wiring through bed and into the cab? Thanks. Great video
Thanks for the video!! really appreciate it. On amazon so many of these backup cams get water or fog in them after some time which model do you personally use?
watching your videos are so helpfull.thank you! i was wondering when u came off the live wire to power the camera ,can u run a wifi adapter aswel as the camera off the same lead?
By tapping into ACC for power, doesn't that mean turning the key on also triggers the camera? I have to close out the camera when turning my car on before even getting in reverse. Is that right?
Having trouble installing my Crux license plate rear camera on my 2009 Jeep JK. I watch a few videos including yours and done what they said but the camera does not come on. Any other tips you can suggest?
Great video as always! Dean, in another video you say there needs to be a relay put on the 12v accessory wire powering the back up camera. In this video you don't mention it. My deck has a 3 amp accessory wire. Will I need to put in a relay?
So the issue I’m having is my backup camera works fine when I put the truck into reverse with the truck not running, but when I start my truck and put it into reverse the camera doesn’t switch over. Any ideas as to why? I am using a 14ga wire for my reverse switch wire would that matter?
What do you use to cap of the wires at 2:48 like that? I was looking at wire caps but I only found large ones for home electrical. I notice yours was like the wire size which is what I'm looking for. I'm just not sure if that's what you call them or not.
So after watching the vid again, I could also run a wire from the reversing lights+ in the boot up to the units Reversing signal wire P/W. Then connect the red pigtail wire to the acc. (also joint the red wires in the boot) Thanks
Hi I have a brand new 2022 Mazda 6 Sedan, which already has a back up camera fitted, however the graphics are crap, can I buy an aftermarket camera and hook it up to my cars existing wiring at the rear of the car for a simple fix? And if so which camera should I look for with the clearest images, and parking guide lines, or this information sent from the head unit n the dash?
Hey thanks for the video. Just a quick question.. When you loomed the wire to run in the roof liner, did you tape(tessa tape) up the loom (like i have seen you before)?
So if I did not want to hook it to my reverse then don't use the purple wire and I would have to manually turn the camera on through the stereo right? My Honda has a built in reverse camera built into the i MID, so i wanted to use my stereo for the front camera
Nice vid especially with the Pioneer settings! Can you do one with a PAC audio module and factory back up camera retention? I will have to look at my avh-p 4400bh and see how to trigger mine. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.
I have a 2003 Buick range ever CX configurations and I would like to place a backup camera on the vehicle. What would be the easiest one to install on that vehicle?
Thanks for video. Was wondering if you all have done or know of an upcoming install of new Kenwood head unit with Kenwood backup camera that can change views from the unit?
I have a Saab 9-2x (2005 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon, but the license plate is in the tailgate). Would you recommend putting the camera above the license plate?
Hey...Yu did a awesome job with explaining what exactly is going on and why in this video man this is the best I have seen being that I really didn't get what I needed out of it Yu really did a awesome job man!!!🎉
1/18/20 and still relevant. Getting ready to install a backup camera in my Jeep WJ with an Alpine iLX-W650. Very clear instructions here. Thanks

And yet you make something I've done 100 times so interesting.... And i learned something, why you put bullet connectors on which wire. Makes sense. Great job as always.

I agree i never new that the positive on cameras is looped and you can cut the camera side red off. Learned something new
+thornygravy thank you 👍
+Tt Ss learning can be fun👍
I cant stop watching all your videos, lucky for me there is alot of content, keep up the good work
Very nice work. Love seeing people taking pride in aftermarket installs.

Good afternoon folks...can you shed some light on how to install a back camera on Alpine VIE-08.
Absolutlly! This is very professional introduce ! including each details, and good experience during installing !
Hey 5* thanks. I am literally installing that exact camera tonight along with a Kenwood and Maestro.
+Jeff Sebestyen how did it go
If I could I would nominate you two for a Nobel Prize for Car Stereo!!
+singram1978 😁I expect, thank you so much
Great explanation of professional installation work. I will trust these guys to work on my car and receive advice from them
Great tutorial but this might be worth pointing out. Some license plate style units now have bright LEDs that activate when power is delivered to the camera at night. So, if you are constantly powering that kind of a camera those bright LEDs will be on even if you are not in reverse gear. Might be worth considering. Correct me if I am wrong. -Merv Himself
How do I fix that problem I'm having it right now
Yup, don’t do what these guys are recommending. You only want this camera when your in reverse.
A
Thanks for pointing this out!
This video was insanely helpful. You covered the exact cameras I was considering.
Thank you for this video. It was very informative and I used all the information on here to get my backup cam to work. My first I installation didn't work but I'm pretty sure it was the camera. I bought a new camera and wired it the same as before and it works amazing and I can even look at the camera without backing up. Once again, thank you!
Awesome videos Buddy, thanks for all the help over the years! I sure wish your shop was in SE TX! 😎👍🏻
Thank you, your video really help me a lot to understand a few things about the installation. Very well explained step by step.
man you guys are awesome. if i need a stereo installed i'm driving to Clearwater...
Thanks a lot very informative, you guys actually know what you are doing seen a lot of videos out there I end up with more questions than answers
Thank you for the great video! It was easy to follow and very helpful!
+John Faile yeah we are going to do a video on those cameras with the LED lights. Go idea on getting this camera 😁
Thanks for this great video. You explained all connections and made it easy to understand why it needs to be done in this way.
Theeee very best demo. Thanks guys!
Careful.... Minute 13:56-14:10 almost made this a Rated R show LOL, another great one fellows!!
+jmaslin I knew there would be somebody that would comment about that. To funny 😂
Five Star Car Stereo LOL, yeah.... I'm "that guy" haha
Great tutorial...worked like a champ! Thank you
I'm about to tackle my 2011 Impala. This really helped.

Great video digging the old school funk music
+Jmain Spl cool!, thank you
Great tutorial for the novice couch tech. Too bad you're not in southern CA. Too many shady shops out here.
Great video Dean, super helpful to anyone wanting to install a backup camera.

Can't figure this part out... What did you do with the black wire that the instructions wanted tapped into the reverse light? You capped off the red, but it looks like the black is still dangling.

+Jhonny Garcia perfect. Glad to hear that. We did the same thing with the Alpine PDX-F4.
I connected everything as per the video as I connected the red "power" wire to the "back up" lights. I did that, because the "back up" lights only get power when the car is put into "reverse." Better use dish soap against regular hands soap. Hands soap get moldy after few weeks and can start stinks.
Good video Guys!
+Filip A good tip!
I just need to clarify. So you splice the power wire on the camera to the 12v switched power on the radio harness and you connect the purple wire to the reverse light 12v wire? That's how I understood it. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Another awesome and informative video. Great professional work!
+F1 Rules thank you
Inmensamente agradecido por este video
Good job ,good video,I did a back up camera on 00000000
Thank you that really help just wanted to say keep up the great work
+bsracer thank you

Great video but I have a question. I've installed a Kenwood DMX7706 with the Maestro RR. There is a purple/white wire coming off of the radio and one coming from the RR. Do I hook both of them up to the trigger wire from the lights or just the one from the back of the radio?
Did you figure it out? I’m hooking a boyo up to the same radio. I can make the camera work as intended on reverse but I’m stumped on the other manual method I’m doing something wrong. Not sure why he says not to use the red in the rear but then turns around and runs a reverse light wire.
I wish they would answer our questions and not just respond to the compliments
I'm installing a backup camera on a 1997 Chevy C1500 this weekend. I got a Pioneer camera and an Alpine radio. Thanks for the video!! really appreciate it. On amazon so many of these backup cams get water or fog in them after some time which model do you personally use?
So power and trigger are two different wires for the camera rather than the red doing both?
watching your videos are so helpfull.thank you! i was wondering when u came off the live wire to power the camera ,can u run a wifi adapter aswel as the camera off the same lead?
You're the man!
Pro job all the way.
By tapping into ACC for power, doesn't that mean turning the key on also triggers the camera? I have to close out the camera when turning my car on before even getting in reverse. Is that right?
Nice work as always
+Brian Miles thank you
Having trouble installing my Crux license plate rear camera on my 2009 Jeep JK.
The other video was titled, "How to add a relay for more power"
Thanks, this video was very educative. do you guys have some classes on installation.
Great video again.
+j slack thank you

I love your video's how does that work with the Micr Bypass I'm installing My Pioneer 1300 with backup Cam Thank in advance
So the issue I’m having is my backup camera works fine when I put the truck into reverse with the truck not running, but when I start my truck and put it into reverse the camera doesn’t switch over. Any ideas as to why? I am using a 14ga wire for my reverse switch wire would that matter?
Hello great video, but I have a question why I'm I only getting a no video single on my screen?
What do you use to cap of the wires at 2:48 like that? I was looking at wire caps but I only found large ones for home electrical. I notice yours was like the wire size which is what I'm looking for. I'm just not sure if that's what you call them or not.
So after watching the vid again, I could also run a wire from the reversing lights+ in the boot up to the units Reversing signal wire P/W. Then connect the red pigtail wire to the acc. (also joint the red wires in the boot) Thanks
I would like to see a diagram of the wires, I got lost with this wire and now that wire
Great video guys ,keep it up.
+Bigdog Bulldog thank you so much
Hi I have a brand new 2022 Mazda 6 Sedan, which already has a back up camera fitted, however the graphics are crap, can I buy an aftermarket camera and hook it up to my cars existing wiring at the rear of the car for a simple fix? And if so which camera should I look for with the clearest images, and parking guide lines, or this information sent from the head unit n the dash?
Is it possible to wire the backup camera both ways? Wire to activate when put into reverse and activate with the head unit
+Poppa T will do. The Pioneer will have a Purple white wire
I have a 2003 Buick range ever CX configurations and I would like to place a backup camera on the vehicle. What would be the easiest one to install on that vehicle?
Very informative. Thanks
Hi, Do you know why the sound of the EANON radio goes away when you put it in reverse and activate back up camera?
With this configuration, if my back up camera has an LED light built in the light would be ON whenever the vehicle is ON??
It will
Will the pac audio harness work with an ebay camera on a factory factory radio
Thanks for video. Was wondering if you all have done or know of an upcoming install of new Kenwood head unit with Kenwood backup camera that can change views from the unit?
+Thomas Byers none coming, we might just do that one on the bench
Would you recommend this camera? What is the LUX of the Camera?
Now does it move when you turn the steering wheel or can you?
I have a Saab 9-2x (2005 Subaru Impreza WRX wagon, but the license plate is in the tailgate). Would you recommend putting the camera above the license plate?
