The multidisc are, as mentioned, used as an strainer or cuttingboard and as a lid. But also you can clip it to the bottom of the stand to give it more surface area when using the stove on snow for it not to sink in, mayby not better known.

outdoor cooking is best cooking. especially in the cold i like to keep my trangia running because it's a convenient way to have a gist of a campfire with me. i like to watch the flame dance while i sip.

Great video! One thing that nobody seems to be aware of, is that you can use the base with a tea candle with the pot to keep it warm. Using a tea candle under the burner also makes it more efficient, since you're not using alcohol to heat it up. I heat the burner with the simmer ring closed and then light it only when the alcohol starts to boil. Heating a liquid is what the tea candle is for, you know. It's very efficient and lasts for a very long time and is very easy to carry since it automatically returns to solid fuel when it cools down. I find that just having the candle in the base actually provides comfortable light as well. Speaking of light; it's getting dark outside. Time to go fishing! :)

    • @jeschinstad
      @jeschinstad 3 роки тому +1

@@paulsmith3266: Hehe, but it's still useful. When it's very cold, you often can't even light the alcohol with a match, and although you could put it in your pants to warm it slightly, firing alcohol from the top is still very inefficient. And a t-light is very small, so it's useful to have. :)

Thanks for this video and speaking about this important subject. I've been suffering from depression and anxiety for years, and these crazy corona times isn't directly helping. Just got into small scale prepping to get some sense of control and composing a "survival bag" with the Trangia mini 28-t. Will try it in the woods asap. I imagine the possibilities cooking with wild berries and fresh picked mushrooms in late summer/autumn.

Great video, I have found in use that it's better to use just enough fuel for what you need to use and never fill past 3/4 full. to boil a litre of water I wouldn't use more than a 1/4 if that. Basically the lower the fuel level, the less fuel it has to heat up to bring the burner on full steam - just my observation and I used to use mine every day to cook my lunches and make drinks working on site :) cracking vid and keep up the good work

You are so right, I’ve been camping since my 20s, I’m 62 just retired to enjoy more camping trips, I even got the Trangia mini set so I can fly with minimal equipment and visit more parks. When I was younger and my job would stress my out, I actually used to say “ I’m going to see my shrink “ instead of I’m going camping. The magic of nature is just that, magic. Thanks for the great video I really enjoyed it.

I have been backpacking since the seventies and straight away I could see you knew your stuff. I started with an optimus paraffin pressure stove in about `77, heavy, but the heat output is amazing (i still use it), went to a petrol MSR draganfly after giving up on canister gas stoves, now thats getting a bit temperamental after 10 years hard use, just got a trangia 27 for my 65th xmas present, and will now give it a test in the garden before heading out next year. love your comment on mental health, remember taking a grumpy teenage relative for one night wildcamp in the lakes, twenty years later he still says how much he enjoyed it.

That has to be the best display of a trangia kit I have seen hear on you tube,I use gas but been thinking of getting a trangia for actually cooking on my wild camps as opposed to Boiling water for Dehydrated Mush, everything was really well explained, I feel that what Haze outdoors has done is a wonderful thing it has helped so many to not only talk but to feel they are not Alone, and to simply talk about how you are feeling and to be able to say you are not OK is a step in the right Direction, There is a definite and positive movement towards men's Mental Health and at 62 years of Age I can see how Attitudes have Changed in my lifetime towards men Speaking out about there state of mind, you have contributed with support for this important issue, Greatly Appreciated Thank you, ATB, Les.

    • @WildCampingWelshman

wildcamping 150 Thank you Les, the Trangia is bullet proof and great to cook with, after a bit of practice. It’s not the lightest or smallest cook set and not the fastest but I’m not usually in a rush. Yes, Hazy has definitely helped bring things out a bit more. Us men are useless at opening up, it’s probably a biological thing that used to be overcome with pubs and Dutch courage. People are, more and more, staying behind closed doors these days and communicating electronically instead of getting outdoors. ATB Jiffy 👍🏻

Great video. Reminds me of a 3 month bike tour living in an Akto and cooking on a Trangia 27. I cooked real food almost every night and did one steak dinner to celebrate my first border crossing.
My kitchen included a small wooden spoon, a dedicated food knife ( Kuhon Rikon parer, yellow with sheath), a flexi plastic cutting and prep board, spray olive oil, a mini pepper grinder, salt herbs and spices.
I used a leatherman to manipulate the simmer ring which you need to fine tune for real cooking.
A full burner takes longer to temp. Some say never let it burn dry. I only did this once before flying. Beware of a fuel boilover/flameout. You need hot German rocket fuel and and a full burner. A few drops of water will tame fuel that is too concentrated.
Dont wash the pots with small gravel, you can scratch the surface.

Good advice about putting mushrooms in hot pan, but even better, heat pan up before putting oil in, stops fat from degrading, as it does, the longer it’s kept hot. I think it makes the pan more “non-stick” a microscopic layer of oil will solidify on the hot metal, in a similar way to seasoning cast iron ( I heat my pans to the point where, if you flick some drops of water on, the water will bead up and “dance” on the surface rather than sizzle).

good words come out, and yes I like Trangia since it is how I learned to camp in the first place, but life can be hard at times and it not an illness to be sad and down at times, but if it comes from no reason it is time to get some help, my advice for gents that are down, be more ego, get a motorbike and do some solo camping, let the wife do her cafes and tv shows or even dancing, but also do stuff together but not all the time, well it might work for people who found a soulmate as a partner, but that is rare :D

Just came across you channel, great video. I love my Trangia 27 too and use it to cook both in the bush on hikes as well as at state parks camping. My kit has the alum pots and non-stick frying pan. One thing that I found is a must is a pair of nitrile rubber cut resistant gloves. Not only handy when processing wood, but also the rubber provides a little insulation after picking up the simmer ring and then sliding the cover down a bit. I'll go from boiling water (full power) to frying eggs and bacon (half power) so it's quick and easy to make the switch. You can also just quickly drop the simmer ring down on top of the burner and you are temporarily immune to the heat which I show in an early video of mine. +1 sub!

The coating disappears and the metal starts to wear thin. I tried dishwashing my old ones and they are fine. I also have the non stick pans which i use at home when i’m not camping they are fine in the dishwasher too. I also put the stove base and the windshield in the dishwasher and they came up like new after 15 yrs of use.

Last count I have 21 different camp stoves, and I keep coming back to the Trangia as they are so simple and virtually unbreakable, they may not be the quickest to boil water, but they can be used to actually cook food with. I own the 25 series which is a little big to use for one person motorcycle camping, , Trangia Mini, which can be used with Hexamine tablets for ultra lightweight , and the original military issue Trangia, I have just now bought the 27after watching this video for motorcycle camping. Good video. Trangia is very good stove. First Trangia builded almost 100 years ago. That consept work well today. But Trangia is made of aluminium so it can't use like twig stove. So i made my own multifuelt trangia type twig stove. It's not perfect because it is home made but working well with wood, spirit/alcohol and gas.

Hi again.. i keep coming back watching your videos.. you do a fantastic job.. you mentioned you have the trangia 25 in the standard aluminium non anodized version.. i am planning on buying the standard aluminium non anodized 27 trangia. I hear the HA chips off.. i am a little hesitant on buying one at all since i heard there is a concern about aluminium cookware possibly being linked to a cause of alzheimer's.... i think i will take the chance on it. Not like il be using it every day.

    • @Smokeywolf64

as far as i know only non stick can chip off, if ha chips off it would mean you sliced off a piece of the pan which would be bad in all cases :p since ha is chemically or electrical bonded to the aluminum in stead of non stick which is a coating.

I have been using Trangia stoves for 30 plus years and I absolutely would not trade them for anything else. I am not certain that you are using the best alcohol for the stove. I looks to me that whatever you use has too much methanol which makes the flame way too hot! I have only used denatured alcohol, the best for me, available in most country and not expensive. In last minute desperate situation I did use anything that would produce a flame regretting it each time. The entire fuel cell will produce huge flames and burn everything inside and outside the pot! Just my 2 cents. Great demo anyway and good looking steak. Cheers

Patrick Cooper Thank you 🙏🏻. I use methylated spirits which I can get easily from my local garage. It’s worked fine for me for years and it is what I am used to using. @@WildCampingWelshman "Methylated spirits" and "denatured alcohol" are two different names for the exact same thing. You don't see "denatured alcohol" in your neck of the woods because it's called "methylated spirits" in the UK. In the US it is called "denatured alcohol".
The only reason denatured alcohol / methylated spirits exists at all is because of evil government intrusion into people's lives. Otherwise you could simply buy pure ethanol cheaply (you can't because governments put excessive taxes on it), or make it yourself from corn, potatoes, rice, and so on (effectively illegal for Joe Citizen, because the government wants their extortion money), and use it as you see fit, i.e., to drink, as a fuel, or as a cleaner/solvent/degreaser/disinfectant. So governments "generously" allow people to buy relatively cheap ethanol without having to pay the ridiculously high taxes on drinking ethanol, but only if it's poisoned first ("denatured") so that you can't safely drink it.
