Bad Weather Mountain Camping | Testing Hilleberg Soulo Tent - 60km/h Winds - Unexpectedly Beautiful!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 8 лют 2023
- I took my Hilleberg Soulo into the mountains to give it a wind and rain test and the weather gods obliged - with 60km/h winds and hours of heavy rain. The tent didn’t budge and I had an unexpected sunset complete with a double rainbow 😍🌈 and woke in the morning to find the mountains opposite all snow covered and beautiful
🥶 -6°C Stealth camp coming next!

As a former Forest Service wilderness ranger in the US, I am enthralled by your adventures. This particular tent means little, compared to your willingness to go out in such conditions------and have a GREAT time! I love how you continually stretch yourself, and are willing to try different things. It's clear that you are learning very quickly, and how to back yourself up in case of problems.
Attitude is fantastic!
I am too infirm now to go camping and enjoy wild places but I can still enjoy Clare's trips. She does an amazing job of filming the wild and mixing in the interesting equipment, cooking and navigation content.
Thank you Brian 🐌 Hope you're having a nice week 🤗
First, great video and honest comments regarding the tent. Second, I have a female friend who has been told by her "macho," co-workers that she needs a man to handle camping. I told her to check out your videos and you have empowered her to go out there and do it. She feels more independent, confident, and when she shows her friends at work her iPhone videos they are all so proud of her and the "boys" shut up! Respect from your many friends in Florida USA 🌴
Lady, you are a bad weather WARRIOR! It never ceases to amaze me how you can keep in such good spirits whatever is going on around you. You're brilliant for that!
So glad you've found a tent that works so well for you, even if it's heavier than you'd like.
Thanks again for your wonderful content, lovely face and inviting attitude!
That's exactly what sets her apart. She's born for this stuff.
Aw thanks Calvin, I like a bit of bad weather :) Had a lot of it this winter though, so I am looking forward to spring now! Hope you're having a lovely weekend 🌿Claire 🐻
This lady is a keeper!
Wind, rain, snow, a rainbow and ten hours of beauty sleep in a waterproof tent qualifies as the consummate overnight camping adventure. 🙂
Depends on who you are. I'd you like nature it's fantastic. If you are accustomed to comfy slippers and quilts and television, not so much!
Ten hours of sleep in a tornado, how? 🧐
You are a brave woman! I enjoy all your videos. Thanks for bringing us along.
Being a Hilleberg tent I was not surprised by the quality and robustness of this tent.. They are expensive but as the old saying goes "you get what you paid for".🌲🔥🌳🌲🔥🌳
I love hearing the hail on the tent you can’t beat being nice and snug feeling nice and tired with a hot meal down my neck and all warm and dry in my sleeping bag … it’s a great feeling xx
Hilleberg tents are very strong and well built. Good choice. You will enjoy lots of trips in it.
Looks like a great tent Clare. It’s lovely being all snug in a tent knowing you are safe and listening to the weather outside xx
I miss camping alot and i watch quiet a few camping videos on UA-cam but yours absolutely capture the whole feeling of camping unlike others do. Thank you again for your videos and bringing back the sounds and smells of camping 🙏🙏
Thank you so much, means a lot. I try to capture it all as best I can, tis good fun :) hope you're having a lovely week 🙂🌿🐻
You capture it all perfectly in every way. My week has been good so far hope yours has been good too?
Hi Clare, i have followed you for ages but i think this is my first conversation comment. Currently i am lying in bed (5am) at home in The lake district, bored but going shopping later in Keswick. I was up Castle Rigg stone circle at winter solstice meeting up with like minded people but not camping. I am beginning to feel i absolutely must camp soon this 2024 or go stir crazy!! Until then i will scroll through your videos to cheer me up!!! Thanks for being just your lovely cheerful, inspiring self. 🎉 michael. ❤ @@WildBeare
I just absolutely love all your videos!
Claire, I watch almost all of your videos and they always produce great content and information. As you know, I pass a lot of your videos on to my Boy Scouts. This video is just as powerful. Thanks for showing us real world adventures. Thanks for the good times.
Thanks so much, hello to you and your awesome Boy Scouts! 🤗🌿🐻
Hi Claire. It’s a bomb shelter of a tent. In wet n windy conditions just in lip the inner and push it back to make the vestibule bigger for cooking indoors. Another tip is for the hilleberg wind-chimes “ noisey zips 😂” put some electrical shrink wrap on them and use a hairdryer to cover the zips. I did that to my old Akto and it was great. Still to do it to my soulo tho. Condensation is better if you don’t keep stuff in the vestibule. It blocks the air flow
You are so amazing that a double rainbow had to come visit. Then, even the moon seemed to dip a bit lower and peep out of the clouds. What an inspiration you are
Thanks for putting yourself out in the wilds of nature and providing valued information. You are a testament to the dedication of enjoying the wild and the love of nature even though nature exposes tooth and claw. Thanks for this. Be well. Happy Trails!
A tip for your foot powder. If you get ziploc or dry bag big enough to fit your foot in and put your foot powder in the bottom of it before you leave home. When out and about simply put your foot in the bag, less mess and less powder wasted. Great channel! Thank you. Oh nearly forgot, nice tent....
I remember my corporal showing us that in the army 😅
Great episode Claire. That’s an amazing tent.
A good idea to secure it to your rucksack as you put it up. Interesting to see it gradually get more rigid as you worked to pitch it. Finally that moment when it’s all done and you get inside out of the weather eh?
A really strong tent, a great review.
Some amazing scenery as well, loved it👍❤️
Thanks Monty yehh I'm loving it so far, feel nice & safe in it :) I love the scenery there, amazing views of Snowdon there too but he was hiding in the clouds for this one. Have a lovely weekend 🙂🌿🐻
It’s been wonderful to follow your channel from those early days and you just grow and grow in experience, confidence and positivity. Although your enthusiasm and cheerfulness in the face of adversity has always been there. You amaze and inspire me ❤
Aw thank you Paul! It's good stuff out there :) 🌿 hope you're having a good week
As a former infantryman, I am glad to see you taking care of your feet.
I thought the same 😂. I still talc my feet in hikes.
Sleeping in the clouds looks so peaceful..Have fun stay safe.
When you clipped the tent to your pack, I had visions of the pack ‘parachuting’ down the mountain!
I was amazed at how easily you were able to pitch it. At least, your video made it LOOK easy, but I think part of that is down to your knowledge and experience.
Excellent video with some dramatic weather and beautiful scenery. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you for sharing this. I really needed that footage of the sun through the clouds. Wow! 😍
I also have a Soulo. Great tent.
Had mine 5 years, and its still like new, after spending 101 nights in it.
I made an extra heavy duty footprint
fom Terram geotextile material,to protect the expesive Hilleberg footprint.
I also use the longer Y pegs.
Been all over Scotland, and the Westen Isles in it. And snug as a bug
in my Norwegian -10 special forces
Nanook bag.
Age 73
Thanks for the video…looks like a fantastic tent ⛺️ for the wind 💨…stay safe and take care !!
A couple of good mods I did on mine: Electric tape to the zips to stop the jingling zips in the wind. Add some linelocs and short line to the tent peg out points. Makes it so much easier on the rough gorund, to get the pegs in and the tent tent. Also 10mm poles are great addition. The other great thing about the soulo is you can guy it out as you pitch, Poles in then guy the lower lines. Then as you work round and clipping and get to the next guylines, get them pegged out. Then finish up connecting the top clips and hood. Then tidy the guylines. In really windy conditions its a godsend as well as doing it in reverse when packing away. Love your content!
You’ve got the right stuff, kiddo. These are great adventures! Thanks for sharing them with us😊😊😊😊
I always look forward to watching your adventures. Keep up the great work👍
Another brilliant video, Claire. That tent seems awesome and I think I’m going to have to give it a serious look. I’m needing something for cold weather outings. Stay well! ✌🏽
Thanks Tom! Yeh it seems good so far, extremely well made and solid 👌 you too, have a nice weekend 🙂🌿🐻
Tis Irish Bob saying hello Claire.
Another adventure tallied in the books Lass.
Good review on the tent and kit for this little outting. Very sharp minded in tying down your tent in the wind while setting up your site.
The winds were real HOWLERS. Kind of like the wolves of Algonquin Park.
I just love your tenacious spirit and resolve. Ever evolving in technical skills and experience. You're the best of the YT gals that do solo camping.
Irish Bob is always a fan of you, and your channel. Stay🦾Stay🩺Stay True, and Stay Real.
You are meant to inspire people: to fully enjoy the outdoors and nature experience.
Be well pretty Lass. Until your next adventure. Enjoy your weekend Claire. Nice image of the rainbow as well.
Irish Bob😇🤗😎🍀🇮🇪🇨🇵🦾🩺🥂🦌🐻🦉🦅🐿️🦝
What a stunning setting. Shows that if you got the right gear you can enjoy the outdoors in almost conditions.
Great as always
Perfect as always. Please keep them coming!
Excellent video. You made putting that tent up in a storm look easy!
The things you do for us! ☺️ Amazing 🤩
Love the shirt btw.
Take care, Wild One 🌿🐻
Wow Claire, its so beautiful there. So peaceful. I cant wait to have adventures like that with my love❤️
Another great video, love and look forward to your instalments x
👍👍 on the Hilleberg Soulo, indeed an awesome lil tent.
After the tarp fiasco and surviving that whole situation I am surprised you went for it again so soon. Well done. Love the content.
I wanted that exact tent for a long time now cause my friends are using it. It's a fortress against elements. But I can't afford it. It only makes sense to buy one if you gonna use it a lot.
I came straight here from the tarp on the rocks and this was so satisfying to watch! 😅🌿🐻❤️🙆🏻♀️
I am glad you found a tent you can rely on! Ten hours of sleep, I am envyous!
Love these little videos Claire. Keep them coming 👌
powder feet, rainy weather, in a tent, moon shining through the stormy clouds, snow caped mountains, couldn't think of anything better, what a awesome trip... much love from australia...
One of my favourite channels. I love camping but haven’t done it for a few years. I go to sleep most nights listening to a storm on UA-cam. Thanks for your experiences.
Aw thank you so much, thats a nice sound to fall asleep to I bet. I might try that next time I'm struggling to sleep. Have a lovely eve 🙂🌿🐻
@@WildBeare that’s lovely. Please let me know if you ever try it. 🙏
What a beautifully refreshing video..
Thank you for all that you are and all that you do.
Hi there, an awesome video and awesome camp and awesome tent. So cool you had such an awesome sleep. Loving the tent! I too love having a great sleep in bad weather! Good for you Sister! 🇬🇧 🇳🇿
Yeah! Perfect timing to start enjoying the evening. 😄
I love all your videos you upload on here. Honest, real, adventurous and inspirational! You have definitely inspired me for when my children get to a certain age I definitely want to start exploring nature and testing myself in situations. I have 5 Children still very young so now isn't the right time but I can't wait to start, maybe even with them if they wanted to. Very inspiring, thank you for sharing this with us. Definitely taught me that life isn't about luxurious things, getting out there an seeing places like where you've been is what it's all about 😊
Great test for the tent. I agree, it's solid and reliable in all weathers. Snug too. I also find the weight a problem but good for shorter winter trips.
I bought a Soulo in December, 2wks after double knee replacement surgery, as a sort of light at the end of the tunnel. I finally got to use it 2mos ago here in the mountains of northern Colorado. I've only used it twice so far but I love it. I'm 6ft 4in tall and while it's a little tight it's still comfortable and I fit just fine. When conditions look like they'll be too much for my SlingFin, I'll be happy to have my Soulo.
Holy Moly... what a trooper!! ty for sharing!
Another amazing video. Very jealous of the experiences and adventures you’re having. Thanks for sharing
My favorite cold/bad weather tent. Thank you for the video.
You are certainly a more adventurous and robust camper than I could ever imagine being! Great video! Thanks.
That was such a beautiful location to camp, an ideal adventure site for any one who loves camping 💚
Great trip there. Love my Soulo too. You're spot on about the Soulo, great features.
Beautiful 🌈 and that tent is sturdy holds up to wind a lot better than previous 😉
Best tent I have ever owned. Hilleberg make great products and so well made. great video
Fair play to you Claire for going out in those conditions to prove your tent well done another great watch ATB
Claire, you're awesome..! Thanks for being a positive role model for my littles..!
Ahh, thanks! Hello Littlies! 👋💚
I have two Wild Country Quasars (one was so old it started to delaminate, but it still does the job on dry nights). They too are very heavy for one person to lug around, but absolutely bombproof. I’ve had them out in weather where other people were literally having their tents blow down in the wind, and I’m just toasty and secure in my geodesic fortress! 😁 I rarely use them these days, and only in foul weather, but I still have a soft spot for them, old as they are. They have never let me down.
I absolutely love your videos (and your smile 😊). Keep doing what your doing!
I love the sound of rain on the tent!
Thank you braving the weather so we how well the tent and gear works! I have done several trips with rain and temps dropping down to freezing, but never with high winds. Tonight we're getting bursts of wind up 50 mph as the cold front moves in.
Very well done. You are getting out and enjoying the country. Fantastic.
Another enjoyable one Claire, that's an amazing tent to stand that!
Its strange even though on the face of it, this may seem quite a straight forward video to watch; I really really enjoyed it! It just had everything, so it goes into the list of my fav videos from your channel. Many thanks Claire xx
It's good to see you out again pretty lady. I like that tent!! Love from Texas
I’m a big fan of her videos, very educational she’s very cute , makes me wanna try solo camping for myself . Keep making great content!!❤
I'm starting to watch more UK wild camp videos and this is becoming one of the dream tents I'll probably never need hah. I'd love to test it out in those conditions. Great video.
Hello 👋 Wildbeare, thank you for sharing this great review of the Hilleberg tent. The best of good things for you. Stay safe out there. 🤗 👋
Thank you for the review of your tent 😀👍! I'm looking forward to getting such equipment really soon 😀👍
You live in a beautiful part of the world, good on you for making the most of it.
What a great little tent! Looks very sturdy. A little "nest" in nature to enjoy the solitude, no matter the weather. Worth paying the money to get the quality. Another one of your videos that urges me to get out in it, Claire. You are very good at those... 🙂
Thank you, have fun :D🏕
That looks super cozy. 😌
Lovely Clare!
Beautiful place, but windy! Nice job.
Thank you for the vids and your channel Claire 👍🙂
love camping in the wind & rain storms feels so relaxing , oops good video , thanks for sharing :)
Well done, I love being outdoors and don't even get 10 hours in my bed, and that 🌈 moment would have made the trip for me.......but.....I don't get trying to sleep in a plastic bag in the pouring rain and howling wind. I'll keep watching and maybe I'll understand in time. Stay cool 😎
Great review Claire, nice to have the freedom of a good long sleep when it’s so needed, and with fresh mountain air and good eats, you have got some great memories and grateful fans that you share them with ❤thanks, stay well 🧘🏼🙏
Telegram? I'm not with the times I guess, thanks again 🙏
@@user-wx7wg5cn1m Hi Ken thanks for the kind words :) that Telegram thing is a bot impersonating me, please ignore it. They are all over UA-cam, I keep reporting them but new ones keep popping back unfortunately. Hope you're having a nice weekend, Claire 🐻
@@WildBeare Wow! So glad to hear that Claire, that wasn’t the first time that I almost got fooled by a bot- at least now (thanks to you) I know better. ❤️🧘🏼🙏
Really like seriously adore your vlogs. Thankyou for taking me along too.
Rainbow is awesome! I love it.
Hello Claire, I'm from Brazil and I always follow all your videos. Each landscape is more beautiful than the last. Congratulations on your channel. A hug!!!!!
Hi, thank you so much! Best wishes from UK :D 🌿🐻
I love watching your videos. Keep up the good work wild and brave one!
Brilliant Claire.Stay safe always.🏴
Stunning scenery 👍👍
nice one love your content can’t wait to get out there 🙏👊
Awesome video, thanks for sharing. Please as always be careful. 😊
Awww, night night Little WildBeare. I think I would have slept that long too, you looked so cosy and tuckled up in there (if that's a word) lol, and with the rain taping on the roof it was perfect. Thanks for the demo. Your expertise made it look easy to put up. Good job, girl and happy camping.
Thanks for the review and the video! I really need to get mine out now, haven't used it yet! I guess it will be my mountain tent mostly. Wonderful sight of the moon there as well.
Sleeping in a snug dry tent while raining is the best. The country there is so lovely.
We find a tent with outer shell reduces condensation considerably and is much warmer during cooler temperatures. Yes, they are heavier and bit more fiddly.
Absolutely love that GoPro shot at 04:07 out of the tent of that sun and golden sky.😊 Great to have such a tent in your armoury that you can use when conditions are bad⛺. I think I’d be tempted to carry it in my car for at least 2 ½ seasons of the year just in case. Appreciate the weight difference though. Already looking forward to next week’s one (you mentioned to me on Facebook) enjoy your birthday!!!!🎂
Another great video, many thanks
Glad you are enjoying your Hilleberg. My wife and I have used a Hilleberg Nallo 2 for all seasons wild camping for many years and although it's a little heavy compared to some we find the space and securiy offered makes up for the few extra grams. With the Nallo we have never had any condisation problems , perhaps just luck. One way we have managed to save some weight is by making a footprint out of Tyvek housewrap. This material is waterproof, very tough, very light weight and inexpensive. Also, if it gets a little soiled we just put it into the washing machine (but don't tumble dry). Looking forward to more of your adventures.
So lucky that you attract the bad weather! It made it a great test of setup and rain proofing! Great video :)
Love all your videos.currently going through them all again looking to see if I've left a comment. I'm sure I have missed some ,, anyway to do that trip alone is very courageous. Beautiful. Stay safe stay wild stay free . Love the wildbeare .
This reminds me of a backpacking trip I was on many years ago when a big thunderstorm popped up in the middle of the night.
Oh. My. God! That weather. You are such a legend.
That is real life!! Thanks for this one.. Nice tent for sure!
Great video again Claire, you get so many wet camps in, I’d welcome any hints and tips (or even a short video) on the best way to dry your tents when you get home👍
Such a cozy looking tent x
