I love seeing Elsa in your videos, she reminds me of my childhood dog "Smoky". I am aware from watching your more recent videos that she has passed on now. I am 71, and have been afflicted by "Cronic Fatigue Syndrome" for thirty years , but by watching your videos makes me feel Iike I am able to do what I could before then, even though I am older. Thank you for documenting and sharing your wonderful experiences.

Thanks Nora, Yes sadly Elsa has now passed on, she was such a beautiful dog and ideal for taking camping. I now have two new dogs, Carmen and Zeta, both are rescue dogs, though they will never replace Elsa I love them just the same:)

Thankyou Sandy - my Trangia is also my favourite bit of kit - once you've mastered the simmer technique, it opens up a whole new world of slow cooked goodness - even perfectly fried eggs in the frying pan!

Poor little Elsa was pooped by the time you got to the site, she couldn't wait for you to set up a bed for her. They love their adventures no matter how old they are, but they just can't do as much when they get to an age. Nice video, thank you very much!

I can vouch for meths being difficult to light when cold. In Canada in the winter below -10c it becomes very inefficient unless very well insulated from the cold and -20c it’s not worth using it. There is a pre-heater attachment from Trangia for use in the very cold but for me I tend to cook on a fire at those temps as it provides warmth and a place to cook. Thank you for the great video, reminds me of home :) best wishes Michael & Esme (the dog)

Nice little trip! This past winter I used my Trangia stove in cold weather. Yes, I'd definitely say that it took a bit of effort to get the alcohol to light, but this was at around -15 to -20 C. In warmer temps I can light up the burner with a ferro rod.

Anyhow, two great video's from two true gentlemen. It was great to see your two different video's on the same camp. They are both different, and interesting, and great. Thank you. When I pack the pot grabber across the top of the kettle I have noticed a slight impression in the fry pan. I have put a disk cut from a thin plastic lid to protect it. I guess the strainer disk would have been a good idea. In the 25 series the handle will fit in the kettle I believe.

Another great vid Sandy on my home turf, wonderful...just buried grandma in that churchyard last week. If I'm not mistaken you were in 'triangular wood'. havent been there in 13 or 14 years..You were camped on a huge roman settlement....also the area was used as a bombing range during the second world war, there are loads of ordinance there to be found. It was the exploding ordinance that uncovered the romano british settlements in the area during the war.

ditto sandy ive also never ever had a problem lighting meths (nor drinking it!! if in scotland!!)
but if you do ever encounter extremely cold or windy conds i have found a way to improve its ignitions is to wad some carbon felt into the burner primer ring
surrounding burner as you flood the primer ring the carbon felt soaks up retains that little bit more of the alcohol so as it gives off a vapor aswell as it transpires through the plumbers carbon felt ive also done this to my msr whisperlite in or for the slightly more testing heavier winter lighting conds!!

Great camping vid Sandy. Looks like it was a great time. Been following your channel for a while now and really enjoy your stuff. I’ve loved England all my life; I lived in Yorkshire when I was a boy and loved it there. I made a solo return trip last year and was surprised over and over again by how much was familiar, the smell of the country, the grass, the small villages. Sometimes I cried when I saw something I haven’t seen since I was 9. Spent a day on the C2C and had a great walk with lovely weather. Yorkshire is very deep in my heart and I will come back again. I often think I would like to live there again.
I do a lot of hiking and camping in my home state of Arkansas so we’re brothers in the woods. Hope to see more from you. Cheers from Patrick in Arkansas.

That curry’s made me hungry now. I had heard something about the fungi having a symbiotic relationship with plants. One of the reasons chemical herbicides and pesticides are bad - and why we should prefer true organic farming methods, as those chemicals kill the fungi under ground. I had not heard about the clover and the sheep though so thanks for sharing that knowledge. Very interesting. Thanks for the video.

I am very impressed with my hooped Bivi Paul. The zip is a little weak and mine did break apart but I lubricated the zip and sorted it and all OK now. Joe has modded his hooped bivi with a much stronger zip.

Wiltshire Man Candle wax mate for sticky zips 👌🏻 my double hooped bivi is front entrance but no hassle to get in/out and mesh so can see out, there brilliant bits of small, lightweight waterproof kit and I need to use mine more, cheers mate 👍🏻🇬🇧

I watched all the way through. Thank you kind Sir.
    1) Good to see Weyland Smithy again. I was mesmerised, captured and enthralled the last time you filmed here. Obviously a special place and one I would like to visit, explore and admire.
I admire and enjoy that you are recording history in your own way Sandy. One day the people will be thankful for your efforts.
    2) Dew Ponds and the Romans ???? What have the Romans ever done for us ?
    3) Farm land ? Every family needs a farmer
    4) Modulate the flame. Really Sandy ? You can be assured I really do watch all the video...
Since you mentioned modulation, it is clear that the 47 minute CW video in the Bison Tundra is warranted. Don't deny yourself - get out there and record it in all its wondrous glory.
    5) Sandy, Do you know how many folk hear the dawn chorus ? It's less than 1% of the population. You are all the more rich for hearing and experiencing the dawn chorus.
    6) He who is closest to nature wins.

This is true Ade. I am the more richer for hearing the birds sing:) I hope I get to hear many more dawn choruses they are wondrous. Hoping to get out for a /p radio ops video soon.

I also like the sound of HF background noise, along with static crash and the melodious tones of CW for hours and hours.
And when you get down under you'll be exposed to nature and radio.

Another great video Sandy . I enjoy watching your treks around the lush , beautiful English countryside . Are you still hamming , I don't see much on ham radio anymore ? I drift in and out of the hobby myself so maybe you are just taking a break . 73 . Bob N7BDY

I really like the hooped Bivy, I just bought a snugpak Ionosphere, I plan to use it soon because the weather is getting better here in Canada. I believe the snugpak ionosphere will be very similar to the hooped bivy, amazing camo too it matched the ground so well.

how have you found the trangia pans hold up long term? i have one of the swedish army mess kit's and i like it apart from the top pan with the handle gets red hot when you try and lift it off the stove. i have found that my burner when it is full of fuel lets off gasses and taints my pots so have had to store it separate from my cook pot. me and a friend had a good over night camp in a local secret spot, we had a great night with a fire and some cider. thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi Sandy, just watched this episode on my night shift and as usual very enjoyable and informative viewing so thanks for that. My Jetboil flash stopped working recently when I was on a solo WC near the top of Pen Y Fan, so rather than spend the night there with a cold all day breakfast and a bottle of lucozade decided to bugger off home. I found a site that sells just the burner assembly for the JB which halves the price of getting a new one but in the meantime have been thinking of getting a Trangia to try out, possibly the mini to start with.... 21 bucks at Millets for a bomb proof piece of kit...can't go wrong really...anyway thought I'd share that with you lol. ATB, Mark :)
