    "Good scarecrow stories are actually really hard to come by."
    Don't remind me, it hurts.
    I find scarecrow such a cool villain. He basically uses batman's favorite weapon against him.
    His redesign in the last batman tas season and his arkham knight design are his best designs imo.

      The only villain who was done justice in the Nolan films was Two-Face and Joe Chill. The other villains didn’t fit in the “realistic, serious, and gritty” world 🙄 and Carmine Falcone was just another mob boss. He could’ve been Maroni, Thorne, or Sionis and it wouldn’t have made any difference

      Personally, I’m not a fan of Ledger’s Joker. He’s cool, but he just doesn’t feel like MY Joker, but maybe that’s because I grew up after the Nolan films came out and I had a wider variety of overall better content, and I could see that because I didn’t have Nostalgia for the Nolan films. As for Two Face, I feel like for the screen time he got, they used him good enough

    I'm aware i'm over 2 years late to this video, but I wanted to mention another Scarecrow story that I consider to be one of the best ever written, called Riot Act. It appears in the animated series tie-in comic called Batman Adventures, in volume 1 issues #4 and #5. The story revolves around the Scarecrow causing one third of Gotham citizens to become illiterate through a specialised broadcast, causing mayhem and chaos as people are unable to read road signs and so forth, which causes mass riots. Scarecrow holds the antidote to ransom, his whole motive apparently being to teach Gotham a lesson for ignoring the importance of its education system, and letting everyone become stupid. Some examples of the truth behind this is shown, as many of Scarecrows goons are less affected by the 'literacy bug' since they could never read to begin with. One of the best parts of the story is at the end where Batman and Robin invade Scarecrow's hideout, where Robin chases down Scarecrow while Batman deals with the goons. Scarecrow ends up trapping Robin beneath a pile of Tv sets and is about to run away with the antidote, but then Robin starts trying to appeal to Scarecrows past as a teacher. He tells Scarecrow that what he's doing isn't spreading fear, it's actually just spreading the ignorance that he hates so much, which causes Scarecrow to actually shed a tear. He then gives the antidote to Robin before trying to escape, but gets caught by Batman. I really liked this story because it shows that Crane really does believe he's trying to do the right thing, but his mental instability causes him to perform the opposite due to the extreme methods he employs. The comic also contained some nice insights into his time as both a student and a teacher, and the events that caused him to become the Scarecrow we know.

    You should look into Detective Comics #835-836, a two-part story called Absolute Terror. In it, Scarecrow decides that his fear toxin lessens him, so he goes on a campaign to cause terror with no fear toxin. There are some very creepy scenes in it, and I think any Scarecrow fan would like it.

    In my opinion, fear of faith is the definative Crane story. It proves that Jonathan can be a major threat without his Fear Gas. He only needs his words and that is what makes him so scary. Under the right circumstances, Crane prays on the fears of others and drive them to hysteria. His depiction as a cold, psychopathic scientist was brilliant and very scary.

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 років тому

      I personally feel the Arkham Knight game also did a good job at having Crane use words to drive fear into people, he had a lot of great quotes in that game and he was really cold and emotionless as well

    • @tayojones9460
      @tayojones9460 5 років тому

      I liked the AK version at first, but now I feel he is a little overrated. The voice is too serious and low. I think they should brought Jeffrey combs back as Crane. Also, Dent should have been the final villain, with Crane acting as his second in command, but secretly manipulating him. Crane works better behind the scenes, manipulating everyone and subtly putting a little fear into them.

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 років тому

      @@tayojones9460 I personally feel that Crane having a monotone and low voice fits his character and makes him creepier. Don't get me wrong, I loved his portrayal in the Arkham Asylum game but I kind of feel that the giggling lunatic voice kind of fits villains like Joker and Green Goblin better. Jeffrey Combs would have been great though if they got him to reprise his role from TAS.
      I don't know if the Arkham version of Dent would have worked well as the antagonist of the last game. He probably could have worked if most of the series had spent time building him up as a character and spent more time on his relationship with Bruce but Arkham City completely wasted him by not only underusing him but having him be more of an enemy to Catwoman than Batman himself. At least they tried to set up Crane as a bigger threat by having him develop a more personal hatred of Batman. The way I think they should have done it was by showing Two Face's origin in Arkham Origins(they can even change it to have him be scarred by Joker instead). Then don't use him at all in Asylum or City but leave clues of his existence. Then he could probably work well as the final big antagonist of Knight(and they should remove Arkham Knight and Joker from the game).

    • @tayojones9460
      @tayojones9460 5 років тому

      That is a great idea. Dent as the main and final villain in the Arkham series would have been better than bloody Jason and Joker. Honestly, between the two, I cannot decide who keeps getting overlooked more. Crane or Dent?
      Crane at least has found fame and recognition in video games, whereas poor dent is snubbed from appearing in live action
      TV shows and has not appeared as the main villain in a live action movie. Yes he appeared in Bats vs TF ahd Telltale and those were great depictions, but Dent needs to appear in a film one day. Same with Scarcrow.

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 років тому

      @@tayojones9460 Probably Two Face is more overlooked, Scarecrow is incredibly popular and despite some people not liking his portrayal in AK, I basically consider him to be the secondary antagonist of the entire Arkham game series after Joker. Dent is not nearly as loved by fans as Crane and I wouldn't really consider any of his other media appearances to be as big as Crane's role in the Arkham games.
      I agree that both Two Face and Scarecrow should be given bigger roles in live action Batman movies. I think the Dark Knight came close to doing Dent justice but ultimately Nolan focused way too much on Harvey and not on Two Face as an actual villain. And Scarecrow was just a plot device in those movies. I don't understand why Harvey has never been used in a tv show before, his story would be perfectly adaptable into a tv show style format. In fact, I feel like his origin can work even better in a tv show than a film. Although Telltale was able to do his origin justice in that way. Speaking of Telltale, I think it sucks that they shut down because I just realized that a perfect plot for the third game would be Joker and Two Face teaming up. It would be an unbelievably awesome team up since both of those villains were really close friends with Bruce and both became evil because of a dark and violent side that they had. It would be perfect!

    So far, I think Scarecrow is at his best in "Blackest Knight" and "As the Crow Flies." I hear there's also a comic where he drives to inmates to suicide using only psychology, I really want to find that comic. As far as adaptations go, I think Scarecrow's at his best in "Fear of Victory," "Injustice 2," and both Arkham Asylum and Arkham Knight.

      The one where he makes an inmate commit suicide is an awesome comic, but unfortunately I don't remember which one it was.
      It starts off in Arkham Asylum with a couple of inmates pushing and mocking him, saying, "You're not so scary without your gas!" After putting up with that, he begins whispering through his cell's air vent every night for several nights, causing his creepy voice to emanate out the vents of other neighboring cells until one inmate jams his fingers in his ears so hard as he tries to stop the voices that he breaks through his inner ear and kills himself. When an orderly goes to confront Crane about it, he hypnotizes him into giving his keycard over so Crane can escape.
      He then starts spreading scarecrows all over Gotham, some filled with plain straw, some containing the corpses of his murder victims. Batman prowls nightly and concludes that Crane is not doing it at night while he is active as Batman, and that he is somehow doing it in the daylight and no one knows how he is pulling it off. With corpses dressed as scarecrows showing up in public places all over Gotham, he has the whole city terrified. People are afraid to leave their house for fear they might become his next sick display. Gordon says the police are even afraid to do their job.
      At the end of the story when he is finally caught, he is led, in straight jacket, back to Arkham, and the comic ends with him yelling at the other inmates, "I don't need the gas! I don't need the gas!"

    I actually really enjoy the 3 issue God of Fear story in Shadow the Bat (Issues #16-18), the things his does or, even threatens to do to some of the kids he infects with his new toxin are entertainingly cruel. And it's actually kind of cool to see Crane with a god complex...it's not perfect, but it's one of my favorites. Also, I feel like this story was a huge inspiration for Scarecrow's plan in Arkham Knight, and to a less obvious extent, Batman Begins.

I hope rebirth portrays a lot better his character since their getting better at writing Batman's villains like Bane, Ra's Al Ghul, Two Face and recently Mr. Freeze. I prefer classic Scarecrow than New 52 Scarecorw that whole sew-his-mouth-thing is kind of extreme but then again he's crazy. I disagree with that New 52 origin story. I liked the one where his grandmother(?) was raising him and kept locking him in the family chapel with the crows. Got that American Gothic vibe I like while the chemical experiment angle just feels wrong.

    I Hate the writers at D.C. scarecrow has always been my favorite comic book villain ever since I watched the animated series when I was a little kid then watched Batman begins when I was a little older I just want him to be the center of the show more cause recently he’s just a background villain that the artist will draw there and he’ll get like 1 or 2 lines

    Wait what did scarecrow use before he was shown using fear toxin? (sorry, I'm not really a full blown comic reader)

    • @Hauptseite
      @Hauptseite 6 років тому +6

      In his original story, he simply used his costume, scare tactics, and a gun.

    • @legoarkhamiteproductions4869
      @legoarkhamiteproductions4869 3 роки тому +3

      He originally used stuff like guns during the Golden Age. And during the Silver Age he started to use stuff similar to his fear toxin. The first was a spray that made the Dynamic Duo think they were constantly falling (how amazing, am I right?). Then he used one that made everyone afraid of Batman (including Batman himself) and one that made everyone afraid of him. Basically just random toxins related to fear.

      In fact I'd also like to know how you would write batman and the rogues. Also I had read some of the rogue stories and I agree with you they should write killer croc to be a bit more human and be street smart. But I would like to recommend that you read the new 52 Suicide Squad. But don't like how they made him stupid, what Is it with these writers making him so stupid?! Any way good luck with your channels and have your self a good day or night cuse time zone.

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  7 років тому +1

      Well I would write Croc like Frankenstein's monster basically. A tragic monster who's hounded by society. I dont think he should be stupid either, like he is in some TAS episodes, but still not the cleverest of the bunch. He should be a fairly simple guy who just wants to find some peace of mind. Anyway thats how I would write him.
      I haven't read the newer suicide Squad stuff no, just the original 80s run. I've been meaning too, but you know how it is, you gotta prioritize the comics you really want.

    One thing for sure is for number 1...
    Since Crane took vengeance against those that bullied him and made the girl become his sidekick and take vengeance, then that makes them bullies, too.
    If you take vengeance against bullies, then you become a bully yourself...
    Also this story is a little similar to Joker's Asylum Scarecrow.
    Anyway, GREAT video!
    I'm going to read the stories I don't have.

      In the Knightfall series, Joker briefly teams up with Cornelius Stirk to spread fear, but after Stirk is captured and Joker meets the Scarecrow, Crane tells him, "If you wanted to induce terror, why didn't you come to the master of fear instead of that rank amateur?"

    #5: His mask makes him look kind of like Freddy Krueger.
    #4: Like the story. Gives sort of that NOES Reboot vibe. Just wish the costume was better. Like i said before, it sucks.
    #3: Before Never Fear, there was this. This version sounds more interesting though.
    #2: One of my favorites in my opinion.
    #1: This Story is a overrated as the Becky Character herself in fandom. Not one of Crane's Better Moment. But the relationship she and him have is reminiscent of Nancy and Freddy.

      No I've missed basically that entire digital Legends of the Dark Knight series.. I wasnt quite sure how to get it, so I didn't bother.. Now I feel kinda silly haha, as there's plenty of Rogue stories in it.. I did read that "Beautiful Ugly" Two-Face story though, but that's all. Not sure how I aquired it..
      Did they realease the entire series in trades?

    • @mikesmedia9199
      @mikesmedia9199 7 років тому

      Gotham Rogues Yeah they have the entire series in trade !! I got the first 3 volumes so far, there's 5 overall. I enjoy them, but I'm a real sucker for self contained stories, so I had a real fun time reading them cause every issue is it's own tale. I'm a fan of big epic story archs, but sometimes it's nice to have a few short Batman stories to read. I recommend you check it out, and if you do, let me know what you think of the collections !

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  7 років тому +1

      Ok I suppose I should get them all then. I love self contained stories too. The best rogue stories are usually smaller stand-alone ones.

    • @mikesmedia9199
      @mikesmedia9199 7 років тому

      Gotham Rogues The price of the trades are pretty reasonable online. around $15 Canadian each, which would be around 100 Swedish Krona, not sure how much on average you guys spend on a book though ! Anyway, I hope to see some of those rogue centric stories pop up on your channel!
