What I learned is that the RWD nature of the Mustang makes it great for launching, the Type R might be underrated in power, or maybe because it's the lightest, but damn it's fast. And lastly, that Elantra N is a hell of a bargain, kept up pretty good with everything.
I think the automatic of the Elantra is amazing. Still cheaper than civic
@@zachattack327 But this video is about saving the manuals. I think a GTI with the DSG might even be quicker than the Civic.
@@zachattack327 civic will hold value better.
@@tommieboi707 never thought about that… 🫡🫡🫡🫡🫡🔥
Turbo k series on like 16 lbs of boost does crazy things mannn...big turbo 10th gen type r's r fast asf and still able to handle a track. I've also seen a stock 10th gen block pushing 500 whp with stock everything in the car and it drives like a champ! Stock Brakes, no weight reduction, its got a stock trans, stock, diff and it still has the stock turbo..its crazy!
The Mustang hooked amazingly well. RWD works well for it and the 2.3 EB doesn't overwhelm its tires.
I think it’s fair to say this is the best manual shifting I’ve ever seen Sam do
Great job!
One of these days hell shift properly so the results could actually be trusted
@@Mid.G. he shifted fine here dummy
Agreed!!
Just give Sam the mustangs, that’s all I’ve seen him drive well!
Dang your channel is on fire recently! Great job launching that Mustang 👏
Next time video, for comparison Hyundai Elantra N with (manual) gearbox/transmission vs Hyundai Elantra N with (DCT) gearbox/transmission?. 🤔
why? we already know who wins
Bro I can’t wait !! Been waiting
This was a pretty cool race it shows the difference in power to weight ratio from a dig to a roll and from a mustang perspective I think it did pretty good comparing the twin scroll on the (mustang) to the ( single scroll) top end of the type R
That was a fun one and an interesting match up.
R walked them on a roll. But theat mustang just hooked up on the dig amazing race.
I was impressed that I didn’t spin much
Id be curious to see the exact same race but with the dct elantra n which makes 40whp more than the manual
@@davidpaulin "makes 40whp more," prove it, that's one of the dumbest statements I've heard in a while, hyundai delusion
@@davidpaulin it would lose by 8% less than it lost by.
@@davidpaulin It doesn't make that much more power... Maybe 2-3whp, not 40. It just has more ratios, closer together, and can shift much faster. If there was a DCT option (or the 10AT) in the Type R, the EN wouldn't keep up.
subbed like the specs and revs man lol
Try moving your left hand to around the 6 oclock position from a dig for more control and stablity during the takeoff and see if it feels better. It helps alot with Higher hp cars but just somthing for control and to try out and see if it feels more comfortable.
Sam you are a very good manual driver! Lots of drivers either shift too early or too late you got it just in the nick of time!
Civic is 3117LBS = 1.413tonn = 216HP/tonn
Elantra 3250LBS = 1.474tonn = 187HP/tonn
Mustang 3632LBS = 1.647tonn = 201HP/tonn
Results make sense!
You forgot weight transfer. Which is why the mustang just rockets off from a stop lol
For 50k that mustang is a JOKE.
That wasn’t the 5.0. The ecoboost was like 30k and the cheapest of those three lol the 5.0 isn’t even 50k lol it was like 45k for base
50k for that civic is a joke wtf
@@bryceleiferman5517yet the Mustang won.

This one was spectacular!
Hopefully the new FL5 Civic Type-R gets some more tuning to help it launch.
Those Ecoboost mustangs are quick and with a Tune really wakes them up
No they not….they slow as sh@t….sounds like crap….
People probably forget or are too young to remember that the SVO Mustang 2.3 turbo of the early 80s was bloody quick, easily dipping into the high 14s in the quarter. This was in a decade where performance was pretty abysmal until around 86 and up. Hate Ford all you want but they do have a lot of experience with turbocharged cars, a lot of it coming from the European market (escort, focus, fiesta, merkur etc...). And yes, it's just as easy to get stupid power out of these as any JDM/KDM or euro offering.
@@lancemannion4113 u talking about 20yrs ago?? We talking about today….ecoboosts are SLOW AND SOUND LIKE CRAP….there is no WAY AROUND THAT….for the price of this trash ,u can get a stinger gt….way better car in everything….faster, more comfortable, way better interior, brembo brakes…etc…list is too long…
@@djzulumask2138 and in 20 years no one will remember the stinger and it'll have the resale of a typical Hyundai or Kia. You're comparing apples to oranges and considering the Mustang is the best selling sports car on the planet and has been in existence for going on 60 years, your argument isn't really relevant using a stinger as an example. Of course there are more modern cars/platforms/drivetrains - that wasn't my point. What I was saying is like any other turbocharged car in the modern era, most will respond very well to a tune and mods, and the Mustang is certainly no exception, and Ford of Europe has proven itself to be extremely reliable, competitive, and with a cult-like following. And much of this dna has trickled over and made its way to their North American offerings starting with the SVO Mustang of the early '80s. Will it ever be respected like the 5.0, or as fast (or ultimately reliable?) - probably not. That's kind of the nature of forced induction engines as opposed to naturally aspirated. But I'll take a turbo from a company that's got the pedigree and experience of a car that's been built by a company in existence well over a hundred years over a enthusiastic 'value based' wannabe company with a pretty conspicuous track record, anyday.
@@lancemannion4113 no one and I mean “NO ONE”….will remember a 4cyl mustang….maybe a 5.0…but not even that…only mustang being remembered in 20 yrs is a gt500….not no damn eco boost….hahaha…
Testing manual cars involves driver skills more so than automatics.
Type R owner here, but I think the Mustang 4 banger is a great value choice for RWD fun.
I knew the type r was going to get low on a roll
What was up with the start of that first roll race?
The Mustang sounds like it had some wheel hop on take off and on second gear shift.
Next do a 10 speed mustang ecoboost vs Elantra n dct
I ran 13.52@101mph in my bone stock HPP 10 speed.
From a stop the 10R80 would put a few car lengths on the N for sure. From a roll the DCT would more than likely stay door to door with the mustang or start to gradually inch away.
I’m such a snob 😂 those exhaust sounds have me over here shopping EVs now 🤣
Cool matchup
the Honda Civic showed that getting more power on Rolling Race👍
Yeah, the civic type R is a crazy one in such races.
Manual is way more interesting than watching people push the accelerator, way more fun to drive too, and the pressure when it's real close lol
Really interesting test!. -Thanks this video. 👍🏼😉
The Honda Civic Type R power-to-weight ratio seems to be best "in balance", compared to the Hyundai Elantra N and Ford Mustang HPP models. 🤔 What do you think about the operation of the Hyundai Elantra N model manual transmission vs the DCT transmission?.
cool to see the mustang CONVERTIBLE(adds weight!) pull on the civic type R which costs more..
@@roboticvenom1935 It kind off only pulled on the dig race. The roll race, the Type R walked the Mustang
@@SkylineLofe Id say the gap on the drag race was more of a “walk” than the rolls.
The coupe HPP being ~150lbs lighter would have been a bit closer.
Drag races are better, there’s even a place you can go and do that…roll races tho?
Either way thats kinda what id expect given the much favorable p/w on the 3100 lb CTR vs 3800 mustang…
The N though? Really shows how much of a difference that DCT makes on them.
Frankly Being the convertible mustang, was rather surprised how well it did on the rolls…its a fat pig with only 330 hp (not underrated like other imports)

As a car enthusiast & lover of seeing cars dish it out in head to head drag races, and seeing these affordable everyday performance cars battle it out on this channel, I can’t be more thankful for this channel for providing that amongst others. However I will say this, now I’m not saying I’m a professional racing driver & can shift like a pro, but I just feel that the results in these videos can’t always be trustworthy, at times the Mustang felt like it was out of its main power band & didn’t benefit from shifting in it’s optimal gear range to give the car its maximum potential, I mean in the previous drag race video, 99% of the comments absolutely bashed the Sonata driver because to put it simply he was utter garbage at driving that car & shifting at 4000 rpm, yet Sam kept defending him regardless of the majority of feedback telling him otherwise, you need to hire better drivers Sam so these races can be trusted because at times they can feel so off, when you do roll races keep the cars in there optimum power band, it seems like each car rather just downshifts automatically (for automatic cars) or if in manual each car is in a different gear than the rest, you need to set each car equally.
Nothing like a standard show down🖤
You mean Slow down … or the slow cars
The 2 FWD cars sound better but that Mustang is no slouch with that 2.3L in HPP tune. That Ecoboost 2.3L is an awesome lil engine that doesn't get enough credit.

from everything i've seen about the new type R, it really truly depends on the driver, if the driver isn't perfect on launching, and lighting quick on the gears it can really change the car

Without the DCT the Elantra N isn’t anywhere as quick. Definitely an option that shouldn’t be skipped. Performance drops dramatically without the DCT, it would have probably kept up if it wasn’t the manual.
