Another good video. Hope you can continue this Andalus video history until Abdul Rahman III and how Umayyad Andalus is collapse into Taifa. Then rise of Almoravid, Almohad and Marinid in Andalus. Will be cool if you continue until 1492 fall of granada 😀😀
Naibketuakj - this is actually a video accompaniment to an audio podcast I produce - if you look below in the description you can see the website where you can download it for free. The entire Episode 4 (which is now complete if you want to listen to it) goes to the year 912 C.E. The next episode is all about Abd Al-Rahman III. I intend to go all the way to 1492.
I find it interesting that Umayyad rulers of Andalus that start with Abdul Rahman is all great leaders. Example Abdul Rahman I, Abdul Rahman II and Abdul Rahman III
4:46 More about the title Falcon of the Qureysh: It was given to the most capable man of the Qureysh tribe. Abbasids were a subclan of the Hashimid branch of Qureysh, descended from Abbas bin Abd Mutilb an uncle of Prophet Muhammad (Muhammad himself was a part of Hashimid clan). Umayyads (Themselves divided into Sufyanid and Marwanid families) were also a branch of Qureysh, their eponymous founder Ummayah was a brother to the founder of Hashimids, Hashim. Abbasid acknowledgement that Abd al Rahman I was the Falcon of Qureysh in that generation, rather than the Abbasid Caliph himself, is the highest praise he could bestow on his adversary
I see you mentioned to another commenter that this is an excerpt from a *whole episode* that’s on iTunes. Just wondering if it’ll ever be put on Spotify as I really dislike iTunes 😅 Found you here on UA-cam, but wanted to listen to whole episode-long chunks (like the first two in this playlist) so I went to Spotify to find you there - am I correct in that you only have episode 5 onward uploaded there? Sorry if it’s too much of a hassle. Regardless, I really appreciate this series. It’s right up there with some of the best history podcasts I’ve heard. Learned a lot about a time period I’ve always found too complex and intimidating to fully dig into, plus it’s wonderful to nap to when I’m not actively following along. It’s also super impressive to see you still replying to comments and uploading content, that’s pretty rare for a creator especially when they get as popular as you’ve become!
Spotify is really weird - they were supposed to have my entire catalogue, but didn’t quite do it. If you’re not an Apple person, you can also search ‘Flash Point History Podcast Website’. Libsyn (my hosting platform) created a generic website where you can listen / download from. Hope this helps
Fascinating story, made even more compelling by the narration. It's a shame this history was utterly ignored by academia. Thank you for the post. I've been throroughly enjoying and look forward to learning more.
I'm interested in going into architecture, and those designs are really inspiring! Because much of art is forbidden in islamic religions, the geometric works are really things to behold!
You should go to Spain - all forms of Islamic architecture - from the time of the Umayyads to the Almoravid to the Almohad and then the fusion architecture that came afterwards when it was mixed with Christian influences
@@FlashPointHx will do although we have a saying in Arabic " the book is known from its title" meaning that I don't have to go throw all 11 episodes to know that you are brilliant. I will do though
Just want to ask , are you doing video focus on Andalus Spain only ? It will be interesting also if you cover subject of how Al Andalus also helps and send army to other muslims in conquest Sicily and Crete Island. Looks like many people forget about Muslim Emirates in Sicily and Crete Islands
That astonishing and beautiful map at 5:09 appears to be from the cartographer Al-Idrisi. It looks like originally it was "upside down" Id love to see a close up of it.
Falcon of Quraysh who defeated over 20 tribalism civil wars in Al Andalus to establish an emirate of citizenship rather than tribalism. A pride of my dynasty who led over 8 different empires across the world and still rules through hashemite of king Abdullah of Jordan and has their blood inside the British royal family of queen Elizabeth
Just one detail: Abdalrahman send those Abbasid leaders heads to the Caliph while he was making pilgrimage in Mekka, so it was not in Bagdad. He sent some who through that heads in front of Abou Jaafar Almansoor, then he run away.
People converting to a religion for tax purposes is very interesting to me. Just shows how money rules the thoughts and minds of people over anything else throughout history for the most part. Religions spreading and their practice probably globally from early animism, Buddhism and Hinduism in Asia, religions in Rome and Egypt, and then the Abrahamic religions and their 3 spreads, plus all others. Often probably had a price tag an potential to make money in the minds of people who either joined in or became involved in any such religion. Really makes you question the state of hearts and minds of modern people. I do not disregard religion, I think it is very important culturally to the world in history and today. But I think more people need to realize religion was about money and/or power more times than not in its role in history. Too many people do not know that in my opinion. And whoever your God is, the supreme being, whatever is out there... I think would not be happy about money/power/violence being tied to praising his/its/ name. Myself a self taught believer in omnism mixed with many other facets although raised as an American loose Catholic (opposite of conservative or fundamental, I am not sure what the vocab word is for a less strict follower of a religion).
A friend of mine recently sent me an Article about conversions in India. Apparently with the rising middle class a lot of people have more money. And a lot of people are converting to Islam. The reason for this is because under Islam people can have multiple wives. That was a lot of wealthy businessman are using this loophole to get them selves a younger wife.
But throughout history being prosecuted and murdered for religious reasons was never a successful strategy to convert people. People have always put religion in the highest regards even before their lives. but at peaceful times people start to ask themselves "ok why not?" because after all islam and christianity had so many similarities.
Raymond Supan You are making it as if Religion is money making enterprise. That’s not the case in Islam. Islam against usury or interest in laws at all. There is no interest in loans in Islamic finance. 2ndly, Islam has five basic pillars and one of these pillars is that all-adult, sane, Muslim is obligated to spend 10% of their yearly hard earned income in path of god(feed hungry, sponsor spread of Islam, sponsor an orphan, give alms-charity, sponsor, sponsor Islamic army, sponsor education of child), its an obligation in Qur’an and Allah encourage people to spend more of their hard earned money and Allah depicted his reward in this verse” Grain of corn: it groweth seven ears, and each ear Hath a hundred grains. Allah giveth manifold increase to whom He pleaseth” a clear that each smallest coin in your money you spend, 100 heavenly rewards for afterlife or even more depend on your work in devotion and love to god. If you donate 100$ each1$= 1000 pennies and so your good universal deeds will be 1000 times 100 and is considered a good work by god. As you spend more in devotion to god, depends on what god thinks of you, and how close you are to god. In Islam salvation is earned not gained by simply being a Muslim. God created you to see how you work in life and if you desire god in your heart, your work will stand for eternity with eternal undying complete one and will be greatly appreciated and you will see fruit of your work in heavens that no eyes could believe or occurred to mind, beyond of beyond in its beauty its all yours due to your good work in life, and nothing is impossible to god because god say to a thing be and it formalize and become as Quran says. Last, Islam is clear about Jizya tax(tributary from protected Abrahamic religions) is forced upon transgressing king to pay enormously after his defeat by Muslims. A Non-Muslim citizen of Muslim country or annex country to Muslim rule will have following condition, all male, military age, able bodied, sane are subject to yearly tributary of 1 gold coin levied excluding all non-combatants such as elderly, women, children, disabled, orphan, sick. Christianity or Judaism and other religions don’t have clear laws about Tax or tributary and can be so greedy as you see in American or colonial history of Europe, and horrors of cathlolic medieval Europe. Islam is nothing made up, Islam is clear about Laws because they are derived exact with no interpretation from source from Holy book Quran and sayings of Prophet Muhammad and all else scholarly or innovated Laws or ratified are discarded period and are taken only if things are necessitated.
@@beyondheartmindsoul3443 wow thank you for great explanation. Interesting. He literally said in the podcast that Jews and Christians converted that was influenced by a tax break for Muslims in Muslim Spain. Probably among other reasons, but that was one.

Inviting a power-hungry warlord to help you fight your enemy : bad idea.
Its letting in a tiger
Do you know when did the Andalusian started to learn philosophy and science to rival the Abbasid?
Reconquista doesn’t mean “Holy War”, it means re-conquest. The Holy War stuff was later Christian agitation to get the Muslims out.
