Omg, Mary Beard. I loved SPQR, and I love ancient history. After Colleen McCullough, Mary Beard brings ancient Rome to life in her writing. High recommend anyone watching this actually buy the book!
I have been to Tunisia 🇹🇳 and seen the Roman remains, the Arena, and an old foundation settlement, the Roman Mosaic are fascinating because some of the details correspond with computer programs and that suggest the Romans being more advanced than how we imagine their civilization could have been. We spent a full day with the tour guides as an exclusion and glad we did. The Arena is cluster of tunnels with gateway, and being there can imagine the furious animals treading through these tunnels making their way to the main court of the Arena and there are claw marks imprinted in the stone and it must have been terrifying for the participant.. really was an experience. Love watching these documentaries ❤
It would be so amazing to go back in time during the Pax Romana and walk around the city as an observer. See and hear the people as they actually were. Wow.
one of these days you may be able to do that - I am an historian (Late Eastern Empire/Byzantine period) and also a multi media developer. I am working on an AI simulation project that would provide "total immersion" in a desired historical period. One of the sensory areas I am most involved with is trying to simulate olfactory and taste bud experiences. That is quite a challenge but also, in my opinion, essential to recreating a convincing simulation. Imagine walking the streets of Ostia back in 120 CE, smelling the aroma of bread baking, the fish market, wood fires, animal dung, spices, tree and flower blossoms, leather, smelting exhaust, all of it blending into a distinctive "city" aroma.

❤ Reincarnation is real. It is spoken about throughout all religious texts. The teachings of reincarnation were suppressed, especially in the West. Jesus of Nazareth was the Messiah. The Messiah reincarnated in 1971 to try to save humanity. Julian Assange is the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth reincarnated. Julian exposed the lies and deception of the world governments via Wikileaks. Julian also exposed the killing and destruction of the Muslim/Arabic world and its inhabitants by the Western governments. The Romans and Jews are once again attempting to crucify our Messiah, and again, our hands are tied, and we are being prevented from stopping his crucifixion. Reread the Wikileaks drops and learn about Julian, it will become very clear to you what is taking place. The war in Gaza between the Palestinians and the Zionists was predicted and exposed before it even started (and has been ongoing for many years with the help of the West). So sick to think that being a slave was not so bad, when I look at Rome I do not see what some of us travel from all around the world on vacation to see, I see the sweat blood and tears of people working their fingers to the bone to build, Plant and serve their mostly wicked masters who all lived like gods, they did not have cars so they were even carried around by slaves from one place to another, These lazy men did not build anything, they only gave orders by the whip and sword, I doubt if they even have the knowledge to engineer anything of good use. Read about Moses in Egypt, I think about Moses in Rome, would more fit the narrative
This will be my 4th time watching this. I love her passion..if all history teachers taught like her and Ms. Joann fletcher, i would’ve been brilliant in class. I did learn about Hadrian's wall in England years ago and that's on my bucket list but not until watching this has my interest in Roman history ever been sparked. Thank you! Teaching is such a gift and Mary certainly excels at her delivery. It's fascinating to see the places this took her. Thank you again for your priceless gift of knowledge.

I come back to this series every now again just to enjoy Mary Beards delightfully in touch and down to earth presentation of Rome. As human as we are now, oh so barely any different.
I can't believe these are on UA-cam for free. What a cool video!
I owe a huge thanks to her, as well as Time Team original series, the way they make the history so enthralling, viberant and exiting they brought out a hidden passion in me and I'm now in process of a career change!!
That's excellent,, 👍 having a job is ok but doing a career involving expansion of inquisitive interest is vital to the progress of the human race... It's not that careers in historical education and sociological research are necessary to produce food or work in a factory but *the flow of inquisitive interest is absolutely necessary to uplift culture and make social and industrial progress possible...*
Me and my dad would watch time team every night we loved it! Majority of it was just British history😂we have so so much and like Tony Robinson said “you only need to scratch the surface to reveal British history” I love my country and my people and their history, it’s just a shame that’s all slipping away now our lane given away to others who don’t like our history and people and it’s a common thing to hate on white history and Christian’s
I am absolutely captivated by this video. We're using it for our homeschool curriculum today. Mary's sheer joy and excitement is such a beautiful treat. I love her beautiful spirit. What a wonderful speaker.
Omg, Mary Beard. I loved SPQR, and I love ancient history. After Colleen McCullough, Mary Beard brings ancient Rome to life in her writing. High recommend anyone watching this actually buy the book!
Mary is my all time favorite person to explain Classic History
I loved how you could tell she was excited to present this documentary
I really enjoyed it!
Ary is cool but the Romans were pigs and Mary fails to mention to any degree the horrors they brought up on the world
The definitive resource for the most realistic and logical history of Rome.
Outstanding work.
How exciting her classes must have been. Her passion is contagious! This is when someone loves what they are doing

@@honoriussoularians1887 sounds very interesting! I would love to experience that. Best of luck to you.
@@honoriussoularians1887if you ever complete it please come back to this comment and let me know I would love to check it out! If you can please do Britain in medieval times too British history is massive it would be amazing for people to see what our land was like
As a direct descendant of Romulus, I approve of this video. You have done my family a great service by sharing our history with people that may have never heard of us and how important Rome is to the world's history and the world we live in today. My family shaped the world that you all know today. You are appreciated. The Gods bless you and your line.
😂 Nice 👍
😮😂
Yeh. Sure you are.
Which part of America are you from? How many descendants to you have from IARELEND. You yanks are bleedin melts

I love listening to Mary 😊 if she were to do a podcast with guests about her vast knowledge I'd listen to it immediately.

I love Mary Beard! I admire her profound knowledge and find her efforts to make it accessible to the general public truly commendable
This brilliant woman is the queen of Ancient Rome, her narrative and translation is a gift to us.
How astonishing and thrilling to visit these historical, nay legendary sites (Troy, for instance). This is a magnificent tour from an authority and adventurer that we can relate to as she takes us through the essential origins of European civilization. I studied Latin in high school in Canada; how odd that an ancient and glorious civilization should have such a long arm to reach into the 20th Century and prod me to look back in awe. I am most grateful for this presentation, Mary. Romae adhuc vivit.
Thank you for sharing. Never underestimate history. You might experience it again in another form.
It's not history that repeats; it's human nature.

Ms. Mary has a riveting mastery of the subject. Kudos to her marvelous team
Love her presentation. Her dedication to her craft and her smile are beyond engaging. And her knowledge is encyclopedic. She's simply awesome. Her voice has a very soothing nature too making you want to listen to her more. LOVE this. One of the best things I've done on a Saturday night watching the whole thing with a cold beer and snacks and a great dinner all while watching this entire video. Ms Mary is simply wonderful.
Mary is our ambassadress to Ancient Rome! Loving every moment of this documentary on a muggy, ‘monsoon-day’ of a Sunday in Manila!
I've read over Beard's book SPQR several times over the past few years, and I just stumbled across this documentary. I'm a big fan of how she presents information and this was a great listen. This rules!!!!
Mary's Roman documentarys are fantastic! Afterall she certainly has first hand experience😅😅😅. Kidding aside, shes the best of the history presenters!
My Latin teacher in high school was very similar to Mary
Long silvery white hair. Would wear these long black flowing gowns
Gravitas in her voice, especially when speaking Latin in a way that made me feel she was a native Roman, a secret 3000 year old vampire
Always gave me shivers when I listened to her read the Aeneid
Beautiful
I can almost see your teacher...Great discrimination of a great memory
Back when actually taught Latin and classics in high school. I would have loved to have that option in school
Mary Beard is fantastic, I’ve been watching everything I can find with her in it lol. She draws my attention, which is difficult when I’m trying to watch and learn things like this.
Mary is the bomb! 👊 This is the best documentary about Ancient Rome. Awesome!
So yes, to answer the question, the second coming of Christ is happening and has been since 2012 when Julian Assange went into the Ecuadorian Embassy in the UK.

Her smiling love of her subject is very infectious! Super documentary. Thank you!
Quite often I am thinking about the Roman Empire
Oh my, Mary Beard! She literally wrote the book on Roman History. Literally. "SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome." I'm reading it right as I'm watching this wonderful documentary.
what is this comment supposed to mean? congrats for reading her wkipedia article

Mary Beard what a Fabilous Teacher ! Absolutly everypart of history comes alive ! if your hungy for the story of History this will not disapoint !
Mary's enthusiasm for history is contagious and her knowledge is impressive,, just reading local Latin off ancient walls and signs... I'd pay HER to be on the location crew... to be looking at these sites with a guide who knows what we're looking at would make for an unbelievably cool experience,, and Mary's excitement and humor would make the trip sublime...💯
Mary Beard is a legend! Amazing story telling and really, exciting! Listening to her makes me feel excited too. Grabe, isang alamat na propesor. Wow!
Mary describing how to use a pick and a chisel...."You had to be really strong.." Adorable!
It's just fabulous. A brief rundown that may begin a new rabbit hole excursion for me. Thank you!
Most definitely my favorite out of all the documentaries that are called "The Complete History Of The Roman Empire | Empire Without Limit (Full Series)"
The only 4 hours video I've watched on youtube ! Just amazing , she described rome in every way ... Loved it ❤️
She is totally amazing. I could listen to hear all day for the rest of my life 😁
I always enjoy Mary Treebeard's version of Roman life and locations more than any other. She is funny and we often learn more when it's funny, or just easy to follow. God bless Mary and all who sail in her.

👋👍👋👍👋👍I was completely enthralled by 'Empire Without Limit'! This comprehensive series on the history of the Roman Empire provided a fascinating and educational journey through one of the most influential civilizations in history.
It’s through the fascinating work of historians like Mary that I come to appreciate history, particularly ancient Roman history. Very informative and makes me want to travel and visit some of these places.

I like the narrator, Mary, she puts passion and energy in this documentary 👍
Her charisma, story telling, recollection and articulation is simply unreal. Mary is a LEGEND!!!
I love her energy & how she brings history to life.
its like she is an elder who tells the oral story to us young people

She REALLY knows what she is talking about and that comes through. There are people who parrot by rote what the books say, and then people who REALLY know. That goes for every subject under the sun, and you can tell when someone is in the latter category.
Awesome...soooo glad this was so long...I can listen to Mary for hours ❤
one of the best documentaries I've ever seen! Congrats to the whole team who did all this work and above all: Thank you!
The best side of what the internet has to offer: Sharing Knowledge.
It has been an honour to have listened to a great speaker a historian and a wise lady she is I must say. Thank you for the video ❤
No need for fancy animation, the narrator explain the story very well, easier for us to imagine.
I think about this once a week! Great stuff
Mary B is a gift! Love her presentation and her deep knowledge that backs it up!
Imagine having Mary as your one on one private tour guide, what a dream she would be, best teacher ever. I only go on historical walk guide world travels, not interested in sitting on a beach or hotel pool, I want history and stories and learning from amazing historians and archaeologists ❤
*Was not expecting to be enthralled throughout this entire documentary.*
*Absolutely and endlessly fascinating!* ❤️
i dont know what i fell asleep to but this is what i woke up to.
YAY! Mary is amazing!❤

Is that her name? She really brings stuff to life man. A good teacher
Very informative documentary. Thanks a lot.
I think about the Roman Empire a lot. So, this epic documentary is an absolute gift. Superb 💯
i watched it all, all of it, every second and sound, thank you.
This will be my 4th time watching this. I love her passion..if all history teachers taught like her and Ms. Joann fletcher, i would’ve been brilliant in class.
I had a social studies/American history teacher who sat on the edge of his desk and spoke with his eyes closed, in a monotone voice the whole time. He damn near put himself to sleep, how the hell was I, an active 12 year old child, supposed to pass that class??
I fell asleep, too! Lol
have you watched "Civilizations" (2018 docuseries)? She is in some of the episodes...it's SO good.
My compliments on an excellent video, really nicely researched, thanks.

Wonderfull piece of work, Ma'am.. It is the first time any UA-cam-channel or any documentary compulsed me leaving a note here. I have found you a great communicator. Besides, your presentation of events in a quite organised manner is worth prasing. God bless you, Ma'am.
Stunning. Thank you, Professor Beard.
I really enjoyed this. Thank you❤
Love these, A true inspiration to small history youtubers like myself
It's so great, I've never finished watching such a long historical movie
Mary reminds me of a Roman grandmother that just invites you in and shares all of its history with us as if we are now Romans too! So captivating!
I’m watching every second of this for the bit
This is wonderful! I have never known much about Romes beginnings and how it came to grow and become what we think of today, other than the story about Romulus and Remus. So this is really fascinating, thank you so much and Mary is an amazing host and presenter, among the best without a doubt.
lol that is why its Italy and not Rome they invaded Roma now Italy
