@Badatallthis Stuff how would saying that another documenatary seires is more accurate mean that thousands of primary sources are inaccurate? im not sure how you took that out of my comment but thats not what i meant.... also letters and jurnals and biographys are more often then not not completely accurate having been embelished or just by having wrong information. That is why historians dont depend on primary sources but secondary and primary. and thirdly the "Soviet Storm" seires was produced by the Russian Federations government and the histortians working on it had access to much of the Soviet Unions archives that date back to the war as well as some allied and german ones. I would imagine that the Russian producers and historians had much more to work with and were much morfe qualifiyed to create a professional documentary series than youtubers... not tyrying to throw shade, i really enjoy this channel and specificly this series.

Fun fact: From artwork I've seen, Napoleon III did an act of ULTIMATE revenge and shade when the European powers were negotiating the end of the Crimean War in 1856. He apparently had the Russians and even his British allies apparently work in a conference room, underneath a portrait of his uncle.
If I may say so, this series is without any shadow of a doubt, the most well-presented, written, narrated, and informative about the Napoleonic wars, that I've ever seen! The artwork and the maps are impecably well-made and presented, and there's so much information I never knew about! Everything from Napoleon's early beginnings as an artillery officer/his first victory at Toulon, the tactics, weapons and uniforms, and battles and campaigns I never learned about before! Epic History TV, you've truly outdone yourselves!

Think how much planning, production and skill this series took to make! Napoleons Grand armee probably required less organisation, and all for free on the internet. People often compare this channel to ‘the history channel’ but frankly at this point this is ‘the history channel’.
@sebâstian turnayev 4,5,6 true, 3 probably true (I think it's the 4th Crusade when the Latin Empire formed), the rest is false unless they mean Celts were also in Britain but Celts were all over Eurasia, not just Britain, even in modern Turkey

I've said this on every one of his videos but I'll say it again; this is THE BEST channel for history on UA-cam that I've ever seen. The narration, accent, research, animation, music...it's just absolutely splendid. I've watched many others but EpicHistory is a class among itself.
The production quality of this is almost hard to believe. I don’t know if most people understand that every second of this video represents significant work. How many hours did this take to make?! The pacing and details, like the way cropped images of generals are brought in when mentioned, is so clever. Also, props on the audio - the mixing is spot on.
Totally agree. The time, effort and finances for these videos, all the videos on this channel is inspiring. History is so vast its quite an accomplishment to produce educational videos that are fun to watch. Great work EpicTv!
Audio work is absolutely the best, you only notice when something is wrong when the mixing is bad. But Epic History TV has some of the best audio mixers on UA-cam. Everything else is great as well.
Sure but remember that his best friend and organizer got killed by a stay cannonball and his most trusted general.. so its epic with a twist of sadness for him to say that..
My education lacked much study of the Napoleonic Wars. Having watched these series I understand the mechanics and strategy of the U.S. Civil War much better. Accounting for the addition of telegraphic communication and the use of railways, the similarities seem very pronounced. Thank you for providing us with these wonderful programs, they've greatly enhanced my understanding of 19th century warfare.
Whoever dislikes this is a fool. The amount of studying memorization reading plus all the political and social things happening during that time is insane. Mad respect for you man and I hope to see more quality content from you!
This Channel has one of the most excellent narrators. It´s such a pleasure listening to a narrator who puts such a pride in familliarizing with great pronounciation of cities across europe. Well done Sir!
Napoleon's awareness, speed to react and reach places at critical times was extraordinary, he seemed to be riding a motorcycle while everybody else was riding on horse....
One of the few generals throughout all recorded history who had the instinct and awareness to be formidable in any age. In the first world war he would have used the enhanced transportation and artillery to march on Germany before Serbia was invaded. Would have been just as bloody but half as long leaving Britain, France and Russia in total control and then eyeing one another.
@@geordiejones5618 I think if napoleon fought in WW1, he would’ve strategically picked apart whichever side he was against. It would’ve ended a lot sooner with a lot less casualties. I can’t believe how arrogant and incompetent the officers in WW1 were. Especially the English leaders who thought walking at a slow pace toward machine guns was the best strategy.
@@Kunfucious577 they weren't that stupid. The only reason that occurred was due to miscalculations in the strategy of creeping barrage. It called for troops to walk at a steady pace behind an advancing wall of artillery shells, by the time they reached the trench lines the Germans would be still recovering from the hits by the time the troops reached it. The most infamous example was where the British troops fell too far behind the advancing barrage at the somme and as a result "walked" straight into the fully manned german positions.
@@Kunfucious577 As a admirer of Napoleon myself, I don't think he'd be as spectacular in WW1 as in his era, he excelled in mobile warfare, the very opposite of what happened in WW1, positional warfare, which could not be avoided, because of trenches and machine gun positions, you can't really outflank it or charge on it, unless you're willing to make suicide beyonette charges, the only chance would be Tanks, but early tanks became effective on very late stage of war, after they became a bit more reliable and faster.
there should be You Tube awards like Grammies or Oscars or something. Epic history would definitely get more than one. Exceptionally good production and history details. I love it!
I've spent the whole day watching both of the main parts of "The Napoleonic wars". I had a lot to do but it was just too well done and too absorbing to resist. A brilliant production.
But the next time he is exiled, it is not to an island near his birthplace in the med. It's to an island off the beaten track in the South Atlantic and he spends the rest of his life there.
This is the best historic depiction I've ever seen, I couldn't stop watching 10/10. If there is a chance of an updated 1815 to finish the series I'm definitely watching it!
Are we going to see more Napoleonic content? Perhaps his campaigns in Italy and Egypt during the French Revolutionary Wars as a follow up to video you did on Toulon?
How about some of Napoleon III's stuff? All people seem to remember him for is the Franco-Prussian War and the busted Mexico campaign. He beat back Russia, and then defeated Austria in Italy forever. He even commanded the victory at Solferino.
Yes. More Napoleonic content especially his earlier campaigns will be out later, but not anytime soon. If you want more updates and voting info, check out Epic History TV's Patreon page to support this channel!
I honestly believe that a Rendition of the Waterloo video is the most important thing for now, to finally finish this section of Napoléonic history. But a few Prequels of his Campaigns as Leader of the army of Italy would be fun to see.

The way you make videos is incredible. You made a documentarial masterpiece of Napoleon. The music, the story telling, the voice, the sequence, the clarity, the imagery. Everything is amazingly done. WOW. Thank you.
Best Napoleonic Wars documentary i’ve ever seen, and it’s free on youtube. I love this documentary series and could watch it forever, the narration is amazing, the graphics and pure knowledge is overwhelmingly brilliant, and the music is mixed in so beautifully. this deserves to be in the cinemas instead of the Ridley Scott movie.
I'm so impressed with Marshal Berthiers life, but felt so anti climactic at his demise this guy basically is the reason why Napoleon won so many battles and is considered one of the most greatest military commanders in history, I wish there was technology so advanced it can help us see history filled with possibilities such as what If Davout and Berthier would be with the emperor during his last battle
Mon ami Lannes, le maréchal Lannes et Desaix aussi par Dieu. This is a shadow of the Grande Armée and yet had he not been betrayed, had he not been outnumbered... my God
Even without Berthier and Davout he was very close at winning Waterloo. At Leipzig without Davout, Soult and Suchet his best generals at that time. He had a good chance at winning at Leipzig.
@@NeverGoingToGiveYouUp000 Would not have mattered. He had defeated Schwarzenberg at Dresden heavily, to no effect. HIs strategic situation had no possible solution. He only had to lose once and it was all over. The Allies had far larger armies and strategically had him nearly surrounded. His army was mostly composed of green half-trained conscripts, and his cavalry had never recovered from the huge losses of 1812. This meant his reconnaissance capability was near zero. He had already had two subsidiary forces heavily defeated and smashed at Grossbeeren and Katzbach. Whereas the Prussians had already recovered almost completely from their two defeats in 1813 at Lutzen and Bautzen. By failing to get a decisive result before the August armistice, it was over.
I would love to see detailed.... Egypt campaign, becoming King of Italy, battle of samosseira, battle of Merengo, Detailed siege of Zaragosa, battle of Trafalgar, Battle of Eylau

Small correction: "el empecinado" means stubborm today, but not back then. The meaning of stubborn comes from the man's stubbornness. Empecinado literally means "covered in tar", because this man's village was next to a swamp.
Thank you. I understand that translation is difficult, especially a foreign language and not considering it’s natural changes over 200 years. I speak Spanish as a second language and something about “stubborn” didn’t seem right in that context but I let it go. I’m finally glad I read a UA-cam comment that isn’t meant to be sarcasm.

@@jraelien5798 No, I am Romanian. France under Napoleon, and after him, supported the anti-Austrian and anti-Ottoman Romanian nationalists who were asking for freedom from the two Empires. Without his influence and help it would have taken a lot longer to organize the 1821 Revolution. He was not in power anymore, but the Revolution was the result of his actions. Also, France after him continued to help with the 1848 Revolution and with the Independence war of 1876-77, and later in the World War II. For all that, we are very thankful to France.
How did Napoleon help in American independence? By 1783 it was a done deal, when Napoleon was still a boy learning about the great men of history in school. I could imagine that you’re talking about Napoleon’s sale of the Louisiana Territory in 1803. But the Americans sooner or later were going to settle and overwhelm France in taking this land. Just like they had done with Mexico. With or without Napoleon, the US was going to expand from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

The storytelling and narration of the events, the graphics, along with the inclusion of the paintings and photos and quotes from the people involved was outstanding. Bravo 👏🏻
This is only the British side of the story, what did the Napoleons did in Canada the US, is what changed histroy, what made it bigger then France only, the world was the goal. The revolutionary war, kick the Red Coats out !
The breadth and depth of all the episodes are mighty impressive along with the quality of the presentation. When I have recovered I shall probably watch again.
Thank you for giving us this most excellent epic presentation of the complex Napoleonic Wars. The clear, organized visuals helped us better understand the combatants of each battle in wars marked by shifting alliances and geographical goals. Like so many wars, the Napoleonic Wars were ones of “frenemies” indeed.
I'm getting the impression that early on Napoleon exploited new strategies that gave him a huge strategic advantage, but then as his opponents caught on Napoleon wasn't nearly as effective in future campaigns and was playing on more or less an even ground.
He should have taken those 600000 troops into Spain instead of Russia, crushed Spanish resistance, built a fleet, and invaded Britain. Russia is where armies go to die.
@@ancientfalmer4341 At least third of that 600 000 army were his allies who wouldn't go to Spain with such masses. Also, there was no way to logistically support that many troops in Spain, it would end the same.

It's really cool to hear about these old battles & generals & commanders picking up the flag & leading their men from the front, like Napoleon did ealier in his career, true bravery, leadership, & I note also how quite a few high-ranking men, even in their 60-70s, lead calvery charges, maybe dying, maybe not. This Napoleonic Wars series may be might favorite series on youtube. I’ve watched many other history series and documentaries, and while there are a lot of extremely good ones out there, none has quite engaged me so much as this. Likely a combination of incredible presentation and enthralling narration. Furthermore, the Napoleonic Wars is so recent in our history, with such a massive impact yet not all too often discussed. Of course there’s many other things in history that you can say that about, but the Napoleonic Wars really sticks out to me, and I’m really glad to have such a good documentary of it available.
@@edf9682 its visually interesting but thats it, the time skips are jarring too and a history nerd will feel many things are left out for brevity. it focuses too much on napoleon the man himself and his feelings which mightve been the direction for the movie but it was just a miss fire imo. i expected much more grand scale tactical stuff but they only zoomed in on his entry to fame and and some of his battlefield exploits. this movie shouldve been longer so more could be said and shown.
@joey19931226 Same. I'm a huge fan of Napoleonic Era history and a fan of Phoenix as an actor. But the film focuses too much on his love life with Josephine. Also the film missed out on some of Napoleon's most famous victories in his campaigns in Italy and after his victories of Austerliz.

Napoleon the “sleepy lion”, was the architect of his own demise. Had he left Moscow after a few days, he would’ve had many options left open to him. By dithering at Moscow and then allowing the Ruskies to overtake him at Krazny, (Krazy) his options narrowed to none. He should’ve destroyed the last remnants of Moscow and then laid waste to as much of Russia as possible. Playing the Ruskies at their own game and deprive them of their own resources, to resupply their armies. Had Napoleon driven his grande army southwards towards Kiev, around the 10th -12th October 1812, burning all the way and given orders for a convergence there, by his forces in Eastern Europe, he could’ve forced emperor Alexander to negotiate. Especially if he got the Turks to ally with him against Russia. Alternatively, leaving Moscow before the 12th October, would’ve allowed him to get back his supplies at Smolensk then Minsk. Then he could widen the front in Russia and strengthen the salient, thus setting up a fresh campaign the following spring and making a thrust at St Petersburg, to bring Russia to the table. This is basically what Hitler tried to do in Ww2. Driving a wide front into Russia, rather than a surgical strike as Napoleon tried. No one can know whether either of these options would’ve worked for Napoleon, but each one would’ve been better than lingering at Moscow and then dawdling on the way back home. Rule No1 in war: If you have to retreat, don’t dawdle! Napoleon himself proves I am right, bc when he left his army to go back to Paris, it took him just 13 days, to travel double the distance that took him twice as long. But had he left Moscow about 10 days before he did, he would’ve succeeded in saving his army and been able to march back at a leisurely pace. Napoleon himself knew this was his greatest mistake and constituted a gross miscalculation on his part. Inevitably, Napoleon’s humanity was bound to catch up with him sooner or later and he would make mistakes as humans do, after campaigning so hard and for so long. The only real surprise is that he didn’t make a major error sooner, considering the feats of endurance, physically and mentally that he’d been through. When at Moscow, his elation at doing what he thought, he needed to do to win the war, impaired his up till then, impeccable judging of fine situations. He naturally wanted to relish the victory and take a rest and this success got to him and ironically was the undoing of his campaign. He had wounded the great bear with surgical precision and his plan was just too good for itself. But failing to follow up on his unexpected success, meant the great bear could recover, from what Napoleon must have thought fatal. Hitler tried to learn from Napoleon’s mistake, of a snatch and grab win over Russia, by advancing on a much wider front and the Germans were only a stones throw, from capturing Moscow themselves and when asked what lost Germany ww2, Hitlers’ generals said one word, “Moscow”. But as Napoleon’s campaign proved, Moscow is not the be all and end all, when it comes to defeating a country so huge as Russia. These dictators are essentially all the same, they try to rush their campaigns and take too much territory too quickly, without the means to consolidate. They bite off more than they can chew and end up choking to their own deaths. Well rushing doesn’t work against Russia and overreaching leads to diluting the strength of the spearhead, of their campaigns. What if Napoleon and Hitler had fought against each other, who would win that fight?
As a frenchman , i know the Revolutionnary and Napoleolic wars...but i learnt much more now! Thanx! What is great with the 20 years of the révolution/empire wars is that there are always actions, movement, and stratégy. Never boring...

Think how much planning, production and skill this series took to make! Napoleons Grand armee probably required less organisation, and all for free on the internet. People often compare this channel to ‘the history channel’ but frankly at this point this is ‘the history channel’.

As was Julius Caesar

Had Napoleon heeded his advice on the Russian invasion, He would have conquered all of Western Europe including Britain had he invaded..

After Moscow, it reminded me of a single lion being attacked by a pack of hyena. avoiding Napoleon's jaws while nipping at his heels, the marshals.
Some of the absolut best historic content on UA-cam. Captivating graphics and interesting quotes and analysis. Best wishes!
I love the video! Though watching Napoleon from 1812 on is super hard. Im a big fan of Napoleon so watching him go down to defeat is a real bummer.
Wonderful, one of, if not the best documentary I've seen about La Grand Armée. While everyone knows about Napoleon's retreat from Moscow, Borodino, Waterloo etc these battles are less known apart from Austerlitz,(to me at least)I learned a lot mainly because of how well you explained. Looking forward to part 2.
Going to be watching this a lot thank y’all for your hard work!
What a brilliant documentary on the Napoleanic wars!!! Excellent narration and illustration. Keep producing more of such episodes.
Ridley Scott should have watch this.
Epic History and Chill time.
Her: he's probably talking to other girls

Me:What if Napoleon won battle of Leipzig
It's an honor to see you here sire.
Indeed
“The good news about Jesus Christ! And the untold secret that many do NOT know about Christians.”
(Luke 15:7)- “there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away!
(Explanation: did you know that there will be just as much joy in heaven for a gang member or prostitute or drug dealer, etc who turned their life around as much as a person who was a perfectly good Christian their whole entire lives? It’s true!
(2 Peter 3:9)- “He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.”
(Explanation: God Does NOT want to punish teen parents, or gang members or prostitutes, gossips, bullies, etc, What makes Him happy is to see such individuals turn their lives around for the better and prove all doubters and critics wrong! That’s it.
(The untold secret about Christians)-
Did you know that A fair percentage of True Christians are actually FORMER gang members, or former drug dealers, former bullies, former teen parents, former prison inmates, etc? people who did bad things in their past and were desperate for a life change. So they turned their lives to Jesus Christ and the Bible. And it worked out well for them! Jesus Christ is wonderfully accepting!
That is who we really are, not “holier than thou people.”
Version 5.0
Absolutely outstanding documentary series, fantastic job fellas!! How you did this on a small UA-cam budget I'll never know, it's truly epic and well worth all the praise it's getting on here.
"I made him a count but I couldn't make him a general"
Saying this while in the jaws of death, what a badass.
Honestly I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve watched this series. In my opinion it’s the greatest historical content on UA-cam, alongside the ‘Marshals’ series. An incredible piece of work. I thank everyone involved. 👏🏻
Krauts videos on the Turks is a 4 hours long trilogy, those videos are my favorite history videos.
I watched this many times as well
It is easier for me to listen instead read. This is a great series
For real. I've watched the Napoleon series countless times. I feel like I'm an unofficial expert on the Napoleonic wars via osmosis 😂
It doesn't matter how many times I watch, I'm still just as interested as the first time.
