The technology level in Al-Andalus is just insane to think about for the time period
Of course, the Moors were the Lods of the Land
Very well assembled storyline. Loving the series. That scheming, tail-chasing Muhammad... In case you missed it, I PM-ed you. Looking forward to the next episode.
Hey thanks! I saw your message, just didn’t have the time to respond yet. Was editing this movie ;) send you a response in a bit.
Spectacular story telling. In my younger days, I hated history. Now, armed with wisdom and my genetic breakdown in hand, I am fascinated by the rich history of the Iberian peninsula. I had no idea Muslims had such a big impact in that region. I'm learning now and thanks to you, I'm losing sleep watching the Timeline shows. Good storytelling, smartly narrated, not too much confusing detail but enough to allow you to capture the essence of the times. Keep them coming please. Magnificent.
I really happy to hear this - a passion of history is a valuable aspect. It gives one an invaluable prospective on life and human nature
This is definitely the best coverage of Abdurahman III that I have encountered, including most of the books that I’ve read.
One thing that might be applicable for future videos is that his name is Abdurahman . The name Abdullah could be written as Abd al Ilah as Abdurahman can be written as Abd al Rahman. Ilah is the word for god and Rahman means extremely merciful and is a substitute for the word Allah so when referring to people called Abdurahman, don’t abbreviate to Rahman.
Yeah you're right - I didn't t realize that until later in the series - I watched a lecture given by Maria Fierro - who wrote the book on Abd al Rahman III
Almanzor is such a cool name
ha - IKR?
I studied this subject a lot and previous i used to see Almanzor as very successful leader or as he was prime minister.... But the reality is he planted the seed of dseperation in Andulusia, he created a second ruling family under the main ruling family which lead in few decades the country to devide into 24 small kingdoms. And the wisdom of Allah had to proceed and Andalusia was occupied again by Spanish. Great history, a lot of science achievements and one of most bueatiful arabic literature that still being toughy in schools till now
He was a successful ruler - albeit a bit on the aggressive / militaristic side. But set the Caliphate on the path to destruction and his offspring would blow it.
Im a student of history and have a exam I must pass about the history of al-Andaluz, I am using kennedy as my reference and I must say your video is a very good support for my study, what a great mix of mediums to present these topics, im only 6 minutes in and its being very useful to revise general details, excelent work!!
Happy that you like my video - hope that you pass your exam!

Rahman I , Rahman II , Rahman III , and finally Muhammad the best for the last but after him the andalouse falls sadly sometimes I wish that Muhammad was an Umayyad prince he protect the caliphate but at the same time he ruin it bro that was a great video thank you
All the Rahman's were amazing - What makes you think I don't like Almanzor? ;)
Al Manzor is of Yemeni origin from the Tribe of Madhijj 😎 Proud to be Yemeni btw the Tribe still exists its the 3rd biggest tribe in Yemen and the Bani Amir Are still located in Ta’izz Region of Yemen and his family did Help Tariq and Musa bin Nusary invade Hispania

Yemen will be fine.
They were in worst positions in history and they alwayse came with great things and from them came great men and women.

It wasn't one of the biggest cities in Europe, it was the biggest and culturally the most important. It's now a pleasant sleepy town (with some very impressive sites) but in its heyday it was spectacular. European society has derived some many philosophical, scientific and cultural legacies from Cordoba that we owe it a great debt.
agree - it rivaled Baghdad and Constantinople in its heyday
@@FlashPointHx Yes, it's been somewhat airbrushed out of history because its legacy clashes with the delusional concept of "European uniquness".

Finally, the best part.
The rise of one of the best usurpers in history. You mentioned before that you were into Almanzor - I’m curious why you like him so much.

Thank you for doing this. I intend on going all the way up to Cortez in the early 16th century and perhaps even Pizarro with the Inca as well. I took video editing classes just to make the video portion of the podcasts come to life. All the best!

1/3rd of annual revenue for the building is HUGE. That is the USA spending 7 trillion or so on one project
7 Trillion??!! Shheesssh we could have a robust colony on the Moon and/or Mars, have free education for everyone on the planet for the next 100 years, end hunger, and curb poverty ushering in a golden age of humanity.

I put in a graphic of Tariq with the date 711 just for you.

Al-Mansur El Victorioso por Allah apparently is my 28th Great Grandfather, and maybe the Father of the man in this video's title
Paine or Payne is from Payen which is French for Pagan, and as such these people from Spain apparently were called this due to them not being Christians as far as I can assume, these people who either them or their Ancestors were originally from Algeria and were Muslims

I think is this the same man as my 27th Great Grandfather, from my Ancestry of Paine / Payne from my 9th Great Grandmother Elizabeth Paine ??
the same guy who is the Ancestor of my Ancestor / relation a Knights Templar Hugues de Payens ?
Andalusia's problem was one of ensuring a consistent succession. Essentially they became victim of their own success, they raised the bar so high that it was difficult to find a worthy successor amongst the decadent elite ruling class.

13:45 Swastika in top-middle of the cloud-shaped arch. hmm xd
Not so much a swastika, but rather just a geometrical pattern. However, that said, the swastika was a very common decoration in a multitude of religious imagery. It had nothing to do with what would later occur in the 20th century.

Informative piece with a lovely narrative. Yet, the world still I’s unaware the Ummayyad’s are pure Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia). The term Moors is not precise nor accurate.
True
this is entirely false the umayyads lived in saudi but their origins lie in syria and what umayyad king who is supposedly “saudi” is white and has blue eye like syrian?

You didn´t mention how Abd-el-Rahman in his final years had a very handsome and young Christian slave, who refused his insinuations to bed him. Then the Caliph threatened to kill him, and the slave still refused, so he died tortured horribly. He was probably the greatest ruler of Al-Andalus, but no Camelot and no Arthur, in my opinion.
there was also the tale of a woman who he ordered his guard to hold her face up to a candela's and burned it off. only so much you can include in a doc

Al Manzor was very good at whooping Western Christian ass though. The guy went on like 54 campaigns and defeated the Christians in everyone of them.
Thats right - but when you have overwhelming superiority in numbers its not that hard to destroy your opponent. Yet the Christian kingdoms would live to see another day and turn the tide
@@FlashPointHx Interesting how the westerners are always "Outnumbered" everytime they lose a battle to Muslims. They were supposedly outnumbered even in their own lands where they constitute a majority??..hmmm...possible but unlikely. The truth is that it's actually quite difficult to know what the Numbers were on each side, because both sides practised war propaganda to varying degrees. But I think it's fair to say that the defeats the Christians suffered at the hands of Almanzor were very embarrassing, which is probably why they fabricated an entire battle, called the Battle of Calatanazor, in which they claim they finally defeated the evil Mooowwslim Al Manzor in glorious battle.
I agree - I’ve found a lot of bias in my research for this series. I try to only include fights where there is more info and preferably more than one account - not always successful
Gajibur, maybe because its true muslims armies were very numerous, in Simancas 939 part of Abderraman III army was a slavic contingent, in Las Navas de Tolosa 1212 a contingent from Senegal, the black guard, so muslims brought warriors from all the muslim world, by the way, the muslim chronicles of the time call the leonese, the rabid dogs, those spaniards were very brave warriors, they were fighting to keep and take back their homeland.
So who whooped whose ass in the end?
the so called afair with "suba" never happened. This was a lie recorded by western historians
I just don't understand your tone of sarcasm on Al Mansor Ibn Abi Amir. Your video were going on so good up until you mentioned Al Mansor. He was an extremely smart and cunning man that took advantage of his contextual circumstances to rise to power. Just state the facts as is. I think you should deal with this turbulent era of history with some respect not with sarcasm and weird assumptions about his relationship with Subh.
see, there's a point around 10:00 where he suddenly gets extremely skeptical, in an almost sarcastic kind of manner, and there's two things about this i want to take note of:
1) it really does demonstrate a suspension of disbelief
2) it indicates an exceedingly strong bias
this guy is a nihilist, in the classic nietzschean sense. well, i don't want to call him a fascist - that's a little too much. but, he glorifies dominance and submission; he's adhering to a master morality, and that was common in the ancient world. he identifies with these muslim conquerors, and their spencerian vanquishing of the weak. so, when somebody gets in the way of his social darwinist fantasies, they get showered with scorn and derision.
if i were to act the part of the professor, i'd have to tell him he's a bad historian - he's not even trying to be objective. but, these are designed for entertainment, rather than scholarship, and that's not useful - what's useful is to point that fact out.
i wish he had applied this glimpse of skepticism more rigorously throughout the series. alas...
...for, it is now almost done, and i'd might as well follow through with it.
