- Comedy on the big screen seems dead nowadays. When was the last time you saw a hiarious movie in theaters? Alas, it wasn't always like this. In the 80s, iconic comedies came out all the time, and the king of the genre was no doubt John Hughes. In this video, we examine how his early films as a writer, National Lampoon's Vacation and Mr. Mom paved the way for his rise as a writer-director, culminating in perhaps his funniest movie ever - Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Of the three what is your favorite? Let us know in the comments!

Ferris Bueller, National Lampoon 1-3, Uncle Buck, and Planes Trains & Automobiles are peak John Hughes comedies of the 80s
The East st. Louis scene was the most accurate depiction of that city you could do.
You don't have to be a high school student to enjoy "Ferris Bueller's Day Off". It just has something about it that enables anyone of any age to appreciate it.
John Hughes is really one of the most influential directors of all time
His films need to be recognized for all generations he's a ahead of his time
He deserved to be recognized as one of the best and influential directors of all time with out him we don't have teen films like Mean Girls TV shows like The Simpsons and Freaks and Geeks or any other shows that had the spirit of a John Hughes films from the 1980s and 1990s
Thank You Joblo for this video John Hughes is one of my all time favorites directors.
You Guys Are Awesome
Michael Keaton in Mr Mom: Yeah 2 20 2 21 whatever it takes.
I remember Vacation being on heavy rotation during the summer as a kid. I'm 43 and I can remember more of this movie then actual events as a kid 😂
The Charlie Sheen/Jennifer Grey scene in Ferris Bueller is my favorite moment. I really miss that nose.
Damn Rhinoplasty
I have come to think of the 80s & John Hughes films as synonomous. I'd forgotten how many iconic movies there were during that time. ❤
One of my favorite bands is Save Ferris
I got to be a PA for inspector gadget, my first gig- one of my jobs was making sure no one took pics of the gadget mobile .. Broderick would intersect with the crowd every once in a while.. at one point someone yelled “doesn’t Ferris ever get a day off?”… Broderick sincerely replied, chuckling,” honestly I’ve never heard that one before.. he was very charming on set
Ghostbusters is probably my favourite movie by him.
I was on the 2024 80s cruise where we had a John Hughes theme prom.
thanks for starting with Vacation! I never saw the other two, they never appealed to me. Chevy as Clark? YES!!
That's hysterical about AMH sneaking on to the closed set. I mean he was going through puberty and she was at her peak then.
I bet he was stoked about Brinkley's pool scene.😂
Really great stuff. And you’ve probably heard this before but you totally sound like Conan O’Brien!
That might be the only Fleetwood Mac photo without Buckingham lol.
Think you forgot to mention the band "Save Ferris".
Gung Ho! Is another great yet underrated Michael Keaton film
2021 whatever it takes
@@MrBuketman Thanks My Bad
Great Micheal Keaton film
@@MrBuketmanI have seen this film before i know of it and thank you for this reminder it's Two Twenty Two Twenty One i seen all the John Hughes films and this is one of my favorite
Also a heads up from me you see my profile picture is of that of the Studio Ghibli characters Nausicaä have you ever seen a Studio Ghibli film before i am a fan of that alongside the films of John Hughes just a friendly reminder that I'm a fan of those films.
The ‘80s had the best movies! Better than anything produced now
Mr. Mom & Vacation are classics 👍
I.ve never seen Ferris day off 🤷♂️
What are you doing with your life go watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off it's a classic.
Oh dude, you gotta see Ferris....
@@ValleyOfTheWindFan06 OK 😆👍
@@ABoyandHisDog-pd3lb I know you are correct 🤣🤷♂️👍
I sure have seen it sometime- but Mathew Broderick just doesn't appeal to me...
Chevy Chase is the father of modern comedy films, and the funniest screen actor ever, IMO.
Goddam how awesome
Samantha Baker and Jake Ryan definitely approve 👌 ❤
Walmart hath been dubbed Wally World
Station wagons had there day, a change was needed anyway.
Vacation is a Harold Ramis film. He directed it, not John Hughs
It's not SALONE. It's Sloan. One syllable. Can you guys read?
You forgot Just One of the Guys...the teen sex role reversal? ❤️🎬👍👍
That should do a Revisited video on that film.
Sloane, not Sa-lone
Is this an old video? You say 1983 is ALMOST 40 years ago but it’s 2024 so it’s Al ost 41 years ago
Sa-lone Peterson? Have you even seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off? Jesus that hurts the ears. I had to stop the video after a few of those.
👊😎✊♈🍁♈👊😎✊
“Woman” and “women” are pronounced differently. Women is pronounced like wimm-en.
The Griswold family truckster would be featured in the Married With Children tv intro and yes I know it is shown at a different angle LOL! It still fareshadows Christina Applegate being in the 2015 Vacation Reboot!🚐🛤🎢🦌
Malls have a better taste in music than this guy. "Holiday Road"? Pfft. Okay.
