Judgment Night: The Ultimate 90s Action Thriller
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 тра 2024
- It’s a story we’ve all heard before. A group of friends stray off the beaten path and end up having to fight for their lives. This has served as the set-up for many classic horror films and thrillers. Back in the early ‘90s, director Stephen Hopkins used it as the set-up for an action movie that has an awesome cast. Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr., Jeremy Piven, and Stephen Dorff play the friends fighting to survive. Denis Leary is the leader of the criminal gang out for their blood. Unfortunately, not a lot of people went to see the movie when it was released… but they did make the soundtrack a hit. The movie is called Judgment Night, and it’s time for it to be Revisited.

One of the best soundtracks ever.....
I still rock the Helmet x House of Pain track as a big fan of both.
Body Count ICE-T
Great soundtrack
💯
How many people went to see the movie because of who was on the soundtrack!
Awesome movie. Awesome soundtrack.
This is such an Underrated Film. Great aesthetic. Fun characters. The rooftop scene with Piven & Leary is brilliant.
And of course hands down the Best Soundtrack ever.
I honestly couldn't wait for them to whack Piven, he was a POS.
This movie keeps you interested in its entirety. 👍🏻✌🏻
Jeremy piven's scream when he gets thrown off the roof still gives me nightmares after I hear it,no joke!
That's one of my favorite parts of the movie. F that guy, he was a prick.
That scream was truly the sound of death
@@MikeG82 exactly it sounded so freaking real, you can just hear the fear in that scream
This is a totally slept on movie. Dark and tense, with relatable characters.
Saw this sitting on video store shelves for years and never watched it. Watched it on streaming last year and LOVED it. Excellent thriller that absolutely holds up today. Great tension and suspense throughout the movie. Definitely worth watching for anyone.
I loved this movie. I always associate it with Tresspass and Surviving the Game as I watched them all on VHS back in the early 90s. (Also, best soundtrack ever 🤘)
Paired with those films it does make for a brilliant triple feature!
I love Trespass, and don't forget Clockers, CB4, New Jersey Drive, Menace 2 Society etc, the good old days.
One my fav movies. I watched this almost weekly as a teen. Never got the credit as a top notch suspense movie it deserved.
🎵You played yourself, soda da da dada🎶. De la soul 😂
My 9 year old son discovered this song a few months ago and has the first verse down cold. He has no clue who Oscar Goldman is or what a Kangol is, but the little dude can deliver. Makes a papa proud.
A solid action film. I remember seeing on TV in the late 90s and having much fun. I rewatched it during lockdown and still holds up.
A hidden gem if there ever was one. The cast, tension, soundtrack. Good stuff
ABOUT TIME SOMEONE GAVE THIS MOVIE THE LOVE AND ATTENTION IT DESERVES. GREAT MOVIE AND SOUNDTRACK. GREAT ACTING AND STORY AND DENIS LEARY AS THE VILLIAN IS CHILLING
Amazing movie. Underrated 90's gem.
Mos def
Judgement Night and Freejack makes for an excellent rainy day double feature.
This is one of my favorite early 90s action flicks. I've owned the old VHS tape and watched it several times back in the days. When a remastered Blu-ray came out a few years ago, I snatched it up real fast. If you're a fan of this film, you need to get that disc, the picture and sound quality are top notch.
The soundtrack I was into for years after ! Boo-ya Tribe and Faith no more, still goes on in the gym
Underrrated morality tale of venturing off the beaten path, knowing who your friends and family are & trial by fire.
Jeremy Piven demise was haunting.
This was a great movie with a hell of a cast. Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr, Jeremy Piven, that dude from the Mask 🤣. But Denis Leary was by far the highlight of this movie, he was such an intelligent and menacing villain. Just an excellent movie
This movie has one of my all-time favorite dialogue exchanges (just going purely on memory, not having seen this movie in a while)... Denis Leary hands a kid money that literally has blood on it. The kid recoils and goes, "This money has blood on it." And Denis Leary answers, "Ever see money that didn't?" Perfect wording and delivery.
Greatest OST of ALL TIME!!!
“Don’t move. Don’t whisper.
Don’t even breathe 🧘.”
"We call these condos down here."
One of the best soundtracks of all time! Great movie too! Denis Leary was soaking this villain role up!!
I used to have the CD and vhs. Leary was menacing in this film.
Great flick. Dennis Leary scared the crap out of me.
Man dude, I was one of the few who saw it in the theater with my homies. We had a blast and of course Rocked the soundtrack all over '94. Thanks JoBlo for revisiting this classic.
Also thanks to this movie, as a kid I remember learning how to keep my hands warm if I'm in a cold environment. When Cuba Gooding Jr. blows his breath on his hands, and rubs them together. Weird how childhood memories work!!!
This movie is so awesome. Caught it late one night as a kid on HBO. Was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I try to show it to all my friends who haven't seen it.
Back.in the day, I rented it from the local grocery store. I liked it but haven't seen it since and don't own a copy.
What an absolutely dope movie. I've been telling anyone who will listen for years to watch this, and no one has seen it. Unbelievable. My best friend and I bought the soundtrack when it dropped and I still have my CD from when I was a kid. Great movie, great soundtrack.
I just watched this one a month or so back. It's been decades since I had seen it, and it still holds up as a decent thriller.
Damn I haven't seen this in YEARS. I remember first watching it as a kid in the 90's when it hit HBO. I really need to go back, and watch it. It definitely feels like a film of it's time, and being an early 90's kid I need to get my nostalgic fix every once in a while. Thanks for spotlighting this underrated gem.
This was a great movie, I remember when I saw it when it first came out and then I forgot the damn name of it for like 10 years and finally remembered it and watched it a 2nd and 3rd time. It is one of those movies that you can watch once a year or something and enjoy yourself. I have not seen anyone else do a review of this movie on You Tube, thanks for sharing this video, I hope more people go out and watch this movie after your quick review.
Just rewatched it last week on Prime, still holds up as a hidden gem 💎
Deliverance + Stand by me + The Raid = Judgment Night 😬 Solid flick
I love this movie bein a youngin back when I saw it it was an intense little movie for a kid so it blew me away.. one of my favorites!! Stuck with me ever since I seen it so its a good childhood memory as well!!!!
Emilio Estevez is the man!!!!!
One of my favorite movies ever in the 90s..
My pops took me to see this in theater as a kid. Loved it then. Love it now.
Its a good movie. I enjoyed it heaps. I remember the family renting it on VHS. Good old days.
I was 16 when the soundtrack landed. It was a smash hit at my local indie club. I have strong memories of the DJ dropping a judgement night track and all the kids going mad for it.
I was actually fortunate enough to go see this movie in theaters and enjoyed.
Part of what makes judgement night so dope is that it works great for the specific 90s era.
I like how it plays out like a low key horror movie with a traditional action movie theme as well as the classic normal suburban guy turned brave hero twist to it. There’ll always be hidden gems like these that proves not every quality movie is meant to be a mega blockbuster hit.
This is a 90s classic gem!
I was just telling a buddy of mine about this movie the other day! I couldn't remember the name so I had to Google Emilio's films. Great damn movie and still holds up today!
I stumbled across this one night one TV...I freaking loved it 😊
OMG! I watched this on TUBI last night. I used to rent it from the video rental place all the time as a kid!
Yo I watched this a bunch throughout my teenage years. Rewatched recently. It's still a great flick. This one is super under rated as far as 90s action movies.
Soundtrack was so far ahead of its time, it's insane. Predated the mashup by 25 years. Crazy. Still full of bangers.
Such an underated film, a favourite of mine, along with Trespass.
One of my favorite movies and soundtracks
I still have the soundtrack on frequent rotation. Especially the Helmet & House of Pain, “Just Another Victim”
Underrated Good Movie!
It really is a hidden gem of a movie. 👍🏻
I loved this movie then, and I still love it now!
Such a great soundtrack!
My friends and I went and saw the movie opening weekend, we loved it and I still have the soundtrack on CD all these years later.
Absolutely love this movie! Thanks for the review…first Explicit Content album I ever bought and still love it to this day. 🍻
I saw it in theaters and was fairly unimpressed. A few yrs later I was working at a video store and took it home one night when I couldn't find anything else and thought it wasn't as bad as I remembered. Watched it again a few yrs later and thought, that was pretty damn good
Just watched this one last week for the first time in 20 years.
I convinced my friend's little brother that the title track was actually a song about a guy from Belfast called George McKnight.
This movie is free on youtube. I watched it again and it still holds up.
I never see/ hear this movie discussed. Great cast, awesome ride. Hidden gem of the 90s. Denis Leary is freaking terrifying.
Great film and with a banging soundtrack too.
I saw this dozens of times in the 90s. The setting was so depressing lol and made Chicago scary to teen me! Good one!
This is a straight up classic. Awesome cast too.
I use to watch this Awesome movie all the time. It was one of my favorites. Thanks for revisiting it.
Back in 2001, my best friend and I were doing a weekend trip in Austin when we got lost one night and ended up in VERY shady part of the city. Like the time this movie took place in (1994), GPS still wasn't a thing yet, so we had to drive around and figure out how to get back to our original route. While driving, my friend made a comment that all we needed was "Denis Leary to suddenly appear wearing a black trench coat and screaming 'no witnesses!'" I remember looking at him and said "did you just make a Judgment Night reference??" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love this movie. I've watched it too many times to count.
This was an awesome film, first saw it on cable back in 2010, and I enjoyed it, and such as knockout cast, Emilio Estevez, Cuba Gooding Jr, Stephen Dorff, Denis Leary, and Jeremy Piven were all top notch, and the action, humor, drama, and story was great as well, this is definitely on of my all time favorite action movies
Still one of the best Cuba Gooding Jr movies
This was an underrated movie. Nothing groundbreaking but it was just a highly entertaining thriller that flew under the radar. With a cool soundtrack. I saw it at the theatre and bought it on DVD.
Great movie!! Just watched Men at Work as well
Look at that. Somebody threw away a perfectly good white boy
Saw this recently. Gotta rewatch.
Very underrated thriller action movie that seriously needs more love.
One of the best 90s thrillers.
SPOILERS:
The look Emilio gives Denis after they shot Jeremy down is probably my favorite acting moment of his.
Always loved this movie growing up
Great film, kind of a forgotten classic. They had some great film+soundtrack combos back in the day
This is actually my favorite movie. I don't care what anyone says. It's underrated
Underrated saw it on tv once and thought it was good
I grew up seeing this on HBO a lot as a kid. Made me so scared as a kid bc weekly we’d go into DTLA.
Judgement Night is an awesome album with an okay movie
Never heard of this film. Found it on Tubi. So it's on the top of my to watch list.
This and Demon Knight, holy fuck those soundtracks... those collaborations.
I love you Maryjane 😂 cypress hill
Loved it when I saw it about 15 years ago and I do feel it deserves a re-watch.
I still have my original version of the soundtrack on CD!
Very Underrated Movie, definitely a good film to watch with your friends😉
Piven's death scarred me as a kid
The film is a decent Friday/late night watch, but that soundtrack is 🔥🔥🔥🔥 STILL!
No wonder this movie was as good as it it. Some great 90s action people working on it. Tombstone, predator 2, Rambo1, and more.
greatest soundtrack of all time!
I love this movie and the soundtrack.
Great pick.
I worked in a record store when this album came out and it was huge!. I grabbed a copy because I was a Pearl Jam fan, but the song sucks so I donated my copy to the used bin and I’m sure it sold fast.
It wasn’t long after that we received the promo only vinyl copies of NIN - The Downward Spiral and that held me over until Killing Joke’s Pandemonium…. Great memories. My teenage years can literally be recalled through music and movie release dates.
I met Jeremy Piven before he was famous and I only recognized him because he did Judgement Night.
The soundtrack was so good!
I loved it back then! Great movie!
Truly under rated
I always liked the movie, and I always thought the soundtrack was awesome, I still listen to it fairly often
Interesting Trivia: This film originally was supposed to schedule in late summer of 1993. Universal decided to switched its release date with John Woo's first American Film "Hard Target", which was also produced by Universal. This film ended up releasing in October of that year instead. In retrospective, I think the studio should consider changing the name of this movie; naming this movie "Judgment Night" just merely 2 years after Terminator 2 might not be a very good idea'; some audiences might not take this movie very seriously. I remember some audiences did laugh at its title when they were watching the trailer of this movie in a movie theater.
Cool movie and a cool soundtrack 🎬🎥
