What Happened to BRUCE CAMPBELL?

- Ask Bruce Campbell, and he’ll tell you he’s “sick of over-trained heroes. I'm really bored with that. Guys that are just ripped to shreds and, you know, full of skills. That's boring to me. Give me the mechanic that picks up a weapon, you know? Now I'm interested. That's my hero. That could be me.”
Ash Williams of the Evil Dead franchise IS that hero. Part of the lasting appeal of the best character Bruce Campbell has ever played is that the audience can see themselves in him, like if they were pressed into fighting an army of Deadites, they could take up the mantle, the chainsaw, the boomstick, and mow down wave after wave of the undead masses. In this video, we take a look at Campbell's long career, from his debut in The Evil Dead through his brushes with fame in the nineties, through his awesome return as a character actor on Burn Notice and his return in Ash vs The Evil Dead!

Bruce Campbell came to my local theater, (which I was an assistant manager at) for the premier of his movie, 'My name is Bruce', which he filmed on his property just a few miles away. I got to spend my entire lunch break hanging out with him and talking about his films. He's a wonderful human being and one of my favorite actors. It was a dream come true.
I loved the movie My Name Is Bruce
Anybody remember the movie they call me Bruce?
@@metalbrainmextrememetalent6810 yep with Johnny Yune. and the sequel They Still Call Me Bruce
So he's a good dude? I can't always tell with actors. I know his whole persona is being kind of a lovable jerkass but I don't necessarily know what he'd be like on a low-key basis amongst just a few fans. He really is just one of those unique lightning in a bottle character actors who knows how to work what he's got and seems like he's made a really good career and had fun with it.
@@metalbrainmextrememetalent6810

What happened to Bruce Campbell? He became the most interesting man in the world.
Bruce Campbell is the absolute best. Better than a lot of A-list actors out there. A true actor who respects his fans and respects the acting craft
This man has never gotten the love he deserves, because it's impossible to love Bruce too much.
I love the line Bruce says in Army of Darkness. Where he says" It looks like your in charge of jack sh*t and jack left town. It always makes me giggle LMAO!
"First you wanna kill me, now you wanna kiss me, Blow"
I use that line a lot.
@@CameronHuff Same here lol.
"Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun."
I love when he tries to bullshit his way through saying the magic words and ends up releasing the evil again. Hilarious movie.
"Bubba Ho Tep" from 2002 was really good and fun. Very underrated flick
He does audio comm as elvis
His directorial debut was similarly good, to my mind. But Ossie Davis was super cool in bubba.
It's not underrated anyone who's a fan knows this movie. If any of his movies are underrated it's My Name is Bruce.
I remember asking my local indie theatre if they were going to show it, and the manager answered "never going to happen". Then the place closed down a few years later, only to be revived by actual movie buffs and filmmakers, so yet again Bruce defeated evil and made a bunch of nerds happy.
spread the word! I still tell folks about this movie. It works on many levels.
He became a living legend. And you left out Congo.
That film gets dunked on but it's not SO bad, it's a fun B-movie. But it would've been a zillion times better if he'd lived thru the whole film and been the male lead.
Mickey Rooney was in the domino principle 1977 with Richard widmark sammy Wilson Eli wallach it came upon a midnight clear 1984 with Scott grimes
and Alien Apocolypse
@@adambrown1127 came here to say that.
I forgot all about him being in Congo. That movie had some amazing actors. I saw Congo when it first came out in theaters. I'll always love that movie
Imagine an alternate reality where instead of having a Tim Burton Batman with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson we got a Sam Raimi Batman with Bruce Campbell and Willem Dafoe
I’m imagining a Ghostbusters offshoot with Bruce Campbell, Steve Guttenberg and Christopher Lloyd, opening a franchise in Chicago with the blessing of the original New York trio.
@@Ironcabbitholy shit dude!!! What a combo!!!
Which one would be joker? 😂😂
Or an alternate reality in which Bruce Campbell was given all of George Clooney's movie roles.
This idea gave me chills!
Bruce Campbell is currently working as a Private Investigator in Miami -- he is working under the name of Sam Axe
He embraced his D-list status and wears it better than anyone. He stands out in everything he's done. I've loved him since Xena.
"B-LIST"
@@mikechevreaux7607 C-List, He's not a Beta male like Ben Affleck or a Diddler like Kevin Spacy. No, he's a man, with a Chin, the necessary lower face armor Ben Affleck lacked when he played his soyboy version of Batman. See, if Bruce played Batman he would be invincible, because the only exposed part of his face has far more reinforced armor than even the mighty Hellbat.
Brisco County was such an amazing show. Fox canceled so many great shows way too quickly back in the 90s.
I had forgotten about it, but yea.
I think Fox must have some kind of evil being that lives on dashed hopes in charge... there is LONG list of shows on Fox that people love and that Fox cancelled anyway.
Bruce Campbell is my long time favorite actor. My buddy brought over Army of Darkness on VHS when I was 10 years old and my life has not been the same since.
I met Bruce Campbell at the Union Square Barnes & Noble back in 2002 for a reading and book signing of his book, If Chins Could Kill. He's as awesome in real life as he is on film. He's down-to-earth with a high-tier sense of humor, and he appreciates his fans. 🙂
Death once had a Near- Bruce experience 😂😂😁😁🥰
After seeing Bruce in "Briscoe County, Jr." I will try anything he's in. That's how i ended up watching "Burn Notice".
both were excellent shows
I binge watch Burn Notice once a year. I never get tired of it. 😊
The Burn Notice's main character was great in the Fargo series
Burn notice is incredible
That was my angle as well, I didn't see Evil Dead until after Brisco County Jr. (and loved it of course). What I found fascinating about Burn Notice was how much Bruce and lead actor Jeff Donovan reminded me of the dynamic between Ross Martin and Robert Conrad in the original Wild, Wild West TV show.
In an alternate timeline, he would have made an amazing Superman
He really would. If he took over after Christopher Reeve, we'd have a lot more great Superman films in existence.
The guy is a national treasure.
Worldwide treasure. Nay, universe wide treasure.
Bruce Campbell is the man. Of course, his role as Ash Williams is considered his best but he had so many great roles after that
I thought I’d died and gone to heaven when Lee Majors showed up as his dad in Ash vs Evil Dead! Can’t get enough of Bruce!
Bruce Campbell is such a great actor in whatever project he's participating. He knows it's not peak film, and instead brings the best to the role. Even supporting roles like in the Hudsucker Proxy, he played perfectly off stars like Jennifer Jason Leigh easily. He's so kind and respectful of his fans, and I do appreciate how he engaged with wider fandom.
He was fantastic in "Serving Sara". The whole cast was. I actually think it was Perry's best performance, too. R.I.P.
Hell I've even watched Moon Trap more than once because of him.
His role in "Sky High" is still hilarious today
All together now "Hail to the king baby"
*BRUCE CAMPBELL TO HIS EVIL DEADITE FANS:*
_Oh you bastards ! Why are you..._
_...Torturing me like this, WHY !?_
OK, you got me. Started my Bruce Campbell Film Night with : Darkman and Moontrap
I loved Bubba Ho-Tep, Bruce was absolutely perfectly cast.
He was also fantastic as Sam Axe.
And his adverts for old spice and such. He's a great actor.
I still use Old Spice products due to his commercials. Him, and my actually liking the scents of the many Old Spice products.
I was lucky enough to be on his gameshow "Last Fan Standing" when it came to a local theatre. I also got to take a picture with him and get an autograph as well, what an awesome guy. He is the only famous person I've ever wanted to meet and I am glad I did.
Bruce has 4 books, the second was 'make love the Bruce Campbell way'
The owner of a local tattoo shop in Temecula gave Bruce his first tattoo. He said Bruce was an absolutely outstanding guy and was a bucket list tattoo to give.
Which shop? I'm from Temecula/Murrieta
What tattoo did Bruce get?
@@IFdude and on what part of his body? (I'm almost afraid to ask...)
Chuck Finely forever
As a big fan of Bruce, I really appreciate this groovy video. You've hailed the king, baby, demonstrating how terrific Bruce is in so many films and shows. The Adventures of Brisco Country Jr., Evil Dead II, Bubba Ho-Tep and Running Time- the latter of which you unfortunately overlooked- are incredible, although Bruce elevates any project. Nice to see the King getting some praise. Thanks man, for doing this.
Running Time was recently rekeased on Blu-Ray. I quickly scooped it up.
Love Bruce and he's hella sweet in person. Can't get enough.
He's amazing just talking to an audience, telling stories and making quips and being effortlessly charismatic. I think most actors don't have that easy genuine charm in front of a crowd.
Ash is a great character, but I will always see him as Autolycus, the King of Thieves, on Xena: Warrior Princess.
😅👍 Same here. I have seen him on first on Hercules.😅
Bruce Campbell is one of the best actors imo. I think the main reason he never really made it as a front man in Hollywood is because he's not interested in all the shananigans involved in being part of that crowd, think ReallifeRyan had a clip in his Evil dead retrospective where he mentioned something like that. Not sure, but I think like Adam Sandler, he enjoys doing what he likes to do and I respect him for that.
Ash Williams and Sam Axe are two of the best characters ever.
Ash vs. Sam... Who would win? 😊
I wish they never canceled the TV show. It was so awesome.
Evil Dead 2 is my second fav film of all time.
Then, we know your first.
@@logangodofcandy Ah, no, its actually Life of Brian :)
How do not bring up his voice work, including video games? Fistful of Boomstick is to this day one of my favorite games ever, and I have sank an ungodly amount of time into New Vegas.
😂 best shit in my world
Happened? He happened to become a living legend!
I never knew I needed a WTF so much
This was awesome yo 💯🤘🏾
He became a legend off evil dead alone
Bruce is the one of those actors that will be remembered forever. You don't need to be an A-lister, when everything you make is amazing, whether it be comedy, horror, drama, or any combination.
He's the king of B-movies, that's good enough for this fan!
How could you have forgotten his book he wrote after "If Chins Could Kill"? He wrote a fiction novel "Make Love! the Bruce Campbell Way" which came out in 2005. It kind of reminds me of "My Name is Bruce".
There's an amazing Audio "play" of that book too. It's fully cast and has sound effects and music. Brilliant.
You forgot his lead role in the disney film the love bug
I attended a showing of Bubba Hotep in Edinburgh after which Bruce held a Q&A. He knew his audience well. He had the nuts to relentlessly tease the Edinburgh crowd about their city. Particularly the old boast that Edinburgh was known as " the Athens of the North " during the enightenment. A superb raconteur.
Bruce Campbell is the National Treasure. I got the chance to meet him at Akon Dallas Texas many years ago and that was an experience all in itself. You could tell he's just a genuine good human being
One of my all-time favorite actors!!
I once watched Army of Darkness with my 85yo grandmother. She never said a word about the story, or the action... but told me several times that she thought Bruce Campbell was a handsome man. I miss that lady.
Baba HoTep ... what a great movie. This dude has turned out tonnes of indie classics!
I love this voice actor, he brings more pop to your channel
Thanks for that. Bruce doesn't get the recognition he deserves but, damn you for that "year two thousand" Conan reference.
He got something other actors do not. He is an underrated action/comedy movie icon.
most underrated actor.
Man I was disappointed when he wasn’t in MK 11. Oh well, maybe someday he’ll show up in Mortal Kombat. 🤷🏽♂️
Bruce has been one of my idols since I was a little kid, and he's only taken up more space in my mind since then in the best way possible! 😂
You seemed to miss one of his best small roles in 1992s "Waxwork 2: Lost in Time". One of my favorite films he's in.
That's my favorite sequence in that film. It's so funny.
@@dvdhound79 The way he and Zach Galligan play off each other at the end of that scene is almost perfection. Bag-o-salt
Mickey Rooney was in evil Roy slade 1972 with Milton Berle Henry Gibson don deluise
“London bridge is falling down” pt3 , AOD had me on the floor with the windmill scene!!!
Gotta love Bruce!! Thank you for sending me awesome content that we should never let go of!!
Yes, you’re the hero!
You gotta love the guy. He just doesnt take himself too seriously.
Bruce is a legend.
You forgot his Old Spice commercials and McHale’s Navy, those are some of my fav Bruce Campbell moments.
Getting groovy indeed. He had all the chance to sell his soul to become a super star, and rather stayed grounded.
I rarely comment on videos but I will just to say I thoroughly enjoyed this. Fantastic job!
I always love seeing him pop up in all sorts of media, whether it be visually or as a voice actor.
I really enjoyed Bruce in Burn Notice. Not only was Sam a funny character but he would be the voice of reason when Micheal would go over the line. I honestly think he would have been perfect playing Sully in an Uncharted movie.
Bubba Ho-tep is a Halloween tradition for me and mine. Also treasure his X-Files episode.
Found several movies and a couple of series here to add to my must-see list. Thanks.
Best two lines in cinematic history "Who's laughing now!!??" by Bruce in Evil Dead 2. "I've come here to chew bubblegum, and...." Roddy Piper in They Live.
Nothing happened to him, hes perfect
Bruce Campbell was also in The Adventures of Brisco County Jr. on FOX back in 1993 for one season and Jack Of All Trades in 2000. 🏇🤠📺📼
Shop smart, shop S-mart, YOU GOT THAT?!
Loved all his films and supporting roles like “The Hudsucker Proxy” could watch a whole movie with Jennifer Jason Leigh’s Character and “Smitty” chasing a scoop 🤘🎥🤘
Might be the most under appreciated and under estimated actor of all time
What a great vid!
I got my friends hooked on the Evid Dead movies and the legendary Bruce. When he released his first book, he did an appearance at the local Barnes & Noble. My friends all went and didn't bother to let me know about it. They all got autographs and pics with him. I have yet to forgive them for that.
What a legend! I'd love for a return of Ash vs living dead.
A genuinely nice man. My personal exposure to Bruce was via my kids and their multiple encounters with him. My eldest was working at the Main Art Theater in Royal Oak, which hosted numerous premiers featuring Bruce's films. As an usher he was treated respectfully and kindly. At his book signings, also In R.O. at Thomas Video, he remembered my son and signed and dedicated a copy not only for him but one for me too. He was glib, engaging and thoughtful. This was an example for my kids of meeting your hero and not being disappointed.
I was just hanging out with him a couple weeks ago. He lives here in Southern Oregon. He also hosts Karoke on Friday nights at our local Elks lodge occasionally.
Best audio commentator
Met Bruce in 1999 at the Chariots of War convention in London. He was so genuine and likable along with Ted Ramie. The whole convention just felt like a weekend hang out with those guys. I miss those small conventions.
This video is really Groovy!!
It gave me some sugar, baby!
Cool vid!
I was introduced to Bruce Campbell through the Xena and Hercules series. I was blown away by his prior work in the Evil Dead. I tried to get into the reboot but couldn't.
“ THIS IS MY BOOMSTICK!!!!!”
"Shop smart! Shop S-Mart! You got that?!"
Mickey Rooney was in Erik the Viking 1989 with John Cleese
I must have quoted Bruce 1000 times in my life. The man is a legend!
“Running Time” 1997 great movie. I don’t believe it was mentioned here. 🤔😇
Bruce is the king of Horror cinema. Evil Dead might be the best 80's horror phenomenon of all time.
You guys forgot hat he played a small role in Congo(1995) as well, as Charles Travis that gets killed near the start of the movie.
Wow. I that movie. Watched it back then.. once.
Bruce Campbell is the entire reason I started watching Burn Notice when it came out. I didn't really care what it was, but USA Network has a show with Bruce Campbell, I was in. And it was a fun network show that really hooked me when it was airing. I sometimes come across clips on TikTok and hope that the show keeps finding audiences.
My introduction to him was his role in the Hercules and Xena series. I also caught Jack Of All Trades when it was airing. I watched Army of Darkness in highschool and the other two Evil Dead movies years later before diving into Ash Vs. Evil Dead (which was awesome). I haven't seen any of the new Evil Dead movies but the latest one caught my interest.
WE NEED A 4 SEASON OF ASH VS EVIL DEAAAAAD
I always loved The Majestic. It gave a range to Carey I wasn’t sure existed. The idea of Bruce as Mysterio will be the coolest thing I’ll think about today 😂
“It’s a trick; get an axe.”
That’s some Sun Tzu wisdom right there.
"Bruce Campbell is the finest man to grace a silver screen." ~Psychostick
"This man is an engineering genius. Why is he working at S-Mart?!" ~Rich Evans
Groovy. One of my all time favorite actors and he instantly makes any film better with his inclusion. Sam Axe, Ash, Elvis, he's done it all and with style and panache. He's truly a Jack of all Trades.
I have an autographed copy of If Chins Could Kill, and an awesome pic with Bruce from a con many years ago. I had a shirt that said Keep Calm and Kill Zombies, with a chainsaw under it
It's a shame Ash Vs Evil Dead got cancelled, it had a great cast and was suitably gory but the three seasons we got were perfect so I can't complain too much. It was the icing and the cherry on the cake for the Evil Dead franchise.
You missed Bruce's appearance in the X-Files 'Terms of Endearment' where he played a demon trying to father a human baby and failing. It's one of the best x-files episodes.
Love it, GOD Bless our Bruce!!! Thank you HEAVENLY FATHER, for Blessing all your children with Bruce Campbell❣️🙏🙏🙏
seen it all... twice. At the end of season 3 of Ash vs Evil Dead they did a spoof of some futuristic Evil Dead thing... man if only that was real.
Bruce Campbell is the greatest actor to have ever graced the silver screen, period.
What a suprise! Here I just re-watched a classic horror movie, Maniac Cop (1987) on blu-ray that starres Mr. Bruce Campbell.
And I put some thought afterwards, what is he doing now? How popular he is with movie fans and yet still kind of rarley we see him in movies these days.
