Hostages' lives are at stake in Arkham City. It's video game logic, though, so take your time. They'll be fine until you get there. That's guaranteed. Whereas I never got a feel for WHY Batman bothered with the trophies in Arkham Asylum. 🤔
Yeah, having almost none of his rogues ever reform gets to be a little old. It's just another way to undercut the stakes alongside nobody staying dead and universe resets.
I really like villains reforming as well, but it’s REALLY tough to do with classic villains (Like Doctor Doom, The Riddler , etc.)! I WAS hoping that Barbara stayed as Oracle and that Jason stayed dead! For quite a while, we were all sure that both of them would. At least Harley Quinn is still an ally.
I like myself some reformed Riddler personally I honestly don't think they should have reformed Harley Quinn. I mean in The New 52 then she just blow up a bunch of kids it's booby trapped gaming systems. I think Riddler works as a detective who uses questionable methods but is but it is a really good foil for the Batman.
How does The Riddler come back from THAT? I hated that they did that with Eddie. It makes sense for the Joker or Mr. Zzazz, but the RIDDLER killing a kid? Ugh!
They recon it out of existence, or never mention it again. Me personally I act like it never happened. (Or just say a wizard did it, or the joker). It will probably be one of those moments in comic books where they'll make reference to it but they'll never print it again hopefully.
@@matthewschwartz6607 yes especially since most version of Riddler hate child abusers, for example he and Scarecrow never target orphanages, because of their past. It is extremly ooc for him to do that.
"The first few (Arkham) games saw Nigma off the grid and serving as a background player." So... we're not gonna talk about how in Arkham City he captured all of Arron Cash's men, tied them to contraptions, and forced them to endlessly walk or else their heads would explode? Not to mention the other select few he used for his little puzzle rooms.
In _"Dark Knight, Dark City",_ Riddler forced Batman to perform an emergency tracheotomy on a choking infant. Riddler is The Joker - but with patience.
As I grew older I stepped away from comic books and even cape shit movies for awhile. Now my oldest son is getting to the age where he can fully understand narratives of the kind in the old Marvel and DC TAS universes. So, I recently got my hands on the 90s Batman, Spider-man and X-men cartoons. This also led me down the rabbit hole of getting the new Spiderman games, and all of the Arkham games. As I was playing one of the aforementioned Batman games, I started to ask myself "why is Riddler even here? And what danger does he pose to Gotham? What makes him a villain worthy of Batman's attention?" When I was a kid, I never asked these questions. I just took it as a given that he was one of Batman's villains and must therefore be dangerous. That's how I ended up here, via youtube search for videos about the Riddler.
YOU are an old-time fan, ain't'cha!? So am I, I remember this from the sixties Batman series, loved it! Nothing like the dark, gritty, Dark Knight we have today, and, one reason I liked the Adam West Batman show/movie!
I never actually saw the adaption of Hush, but it sounds better than Tommy Elliot. I would much rather have that than Tommy. I think that now I’m going to check it out .
Meh, I still think tracking down and murdering every other villain who leaves cryptic clues around out of sheer spite should be on there somewhere. Even if he did end up being survived by King Tut of all losers!
I just searched her. First appearance was only about sixteen years ago, so she won't too big a blip on anyone's radar. Good bet she'll be forgotten if there's another reboot, too. You never know, though.
Premise idea: Riddler realizes the folly of deliberate clue creation and changes his gimmick. I'm guessing writers thought of this no later than the early sixties. The consensus was to reject it, seeing as no one wants to mess with popular characterization. Someone liked it, though, and created the knockoff villain, Cluemaster who'd wise up much later. Anyone know if my guesswork is close to the mark?
The self-sabotaging clues are a part of his character, in "Riddler on the run" we see him contemplate why he can't NOT leave riddles and a few stories he does kick the habit but finds crime unbearably boring as there's no risk of getting caught and he doesn't get any attention, the main reason he became a villain.
I really like Gotham (only seasons 1 and 2 though) but I cannot stand that Riddler, the worst version of the character in my opinion. Oh and Batman: Hush the animated movie is terrible.
So we're ignoring the fact that in the film the lazarous pit gave Riddler super human strength despite it is never doing that for Ras Al Ghul? And also how the comic of Hush really built and developed Bruce's friendship but in the film his friend is just there and then dies and was essentially irrelevant.
Making Batman collect ? trophies.
Aaaaaaargh tirggered my PTSD 🫠
Truly the most evil thing he’s ever done

I'm in the minority with liking Enigma being good cause it fits with Batman's ideology of reforming villains.

Yeah liked how he was still smug and sort of fueding with Batman, looking to out do him as a detective while still on the side of good.
I agree with you.
I feel if given time it could have become a really interesting dynamic.
Especially if he became more of a mentor to Tim Drake.

I actually enjoyed regular being a hero it was a nice change-of-pace I wish DC would do that more often and have some villains reform permanently
Me too. Detective Nigma as a hero can still maintain his feud with Batman by trying to beat him at solving crime each time out.
Regular what?
See, it's not batman who creates these villains, but the fans!
But seriously though, I personally liked the idea of Riddler reforming
So would Batman himself, in one story Poison Ivy claimed to have changed, and part of Bruce honestly hoped that she really had
It would make a good change to have Riddler become legitimate and, also, become richer and more successful than he was as a supervillain!
As a Riddler Stan I heavily appreciate this list
How is killing charles brown's son and essentially creating kite man not on this list?
I agree, he killed a kid. I mean that's pretty cold. That borders purely on joker territory. How they could overlook that is a riddle in it of itself.

Riddler becoming HUSH was an odd choice for the animated film, and Definitely one no one saw coming!
I would have included that he killed Kite Man's son in War of Jokes and Riddles.
Same, it’s the most memorable thing he’s done for me.
Yeah surprised they didn’t put that on the list but instead put on the stupid Gotham show
I just commented the same thing lol

That was because Riddler was under the influence of a demonic entity though.

Killing kite man son with poison was pretty sadistic.

I can't believe the time he made Batman slit a baby's throat didn't make the list.
Riddler in the show Gotham is my favorite portrayal but I have high hopes the new movie will change that.
In the past he was the Well Dressed Man. Now it’s a Slipknot-esque gimp tribute to the Zodiac Killer. It’ll still make millions. 🦇
Everything's gotta be so dark and edgy these days.
Because Batman is DARK and EDGY. If you want a comical take on him then go and watch Batman & Robin goofy
@@alexdarkz3339 he was never in Batman and Robin.
@@TheManInTheLongBlackCoat I wasn’t talking to you idiot
I personally prefer it when the Riddler switches between a Goblin like sewer rat in spandex to a sharp dressed showman like Frank Gorshins depiction.
Can’t believe #1 isn’t Jim Carrey in that green leotard
I mean, have y’all seen The Batman? Man’s goes full zodiac
I think the worst thing he ever did was help penguin and joker dehydrate the UN into colored dust. Cold blooded.

I’m pretty sure riddler forced Batman to slit a child’s throat with a batarang.
So the Riddler is one step away from being Jigsaw.
He's one of my favorite villains in DC next to Anarky!
worst thing riddler did, forced catwoman to break bruce heart with his death at the end of hush.
My favorite villain
Mine too, I cosplay as him.
Not my favorite, but still a great character enough to come in here to see what others might say about the upcoming movie incarnation.
