Huge thanks to eBay for sponsoring this video and supporting the channel.
You guys have been loving the DriveTribe M5 Touring since we revealed it on the channel, so much so that we've decided to protect it for many more years to come. By respraying the front end, applying PPF and a ceramic coating, and finishing with a full interior detail, the M5 is now better than ever. But to test the PPF, Mike was instructed to take a wire brush to the car's bonnet - prepare yourself for the torture that ensues 😬
A massive thank you to @reepmidlands1557 for working on the car, and @ChartwellDerby for painting the car pre-PPF!

Hey @DRIVETRIBE ..... What was that badass song at 17:16? Love to get my hands on that when I do my detailing on my car
You're putting a 6 speed in it, aren't you?
The link only has turtle wax products? No gtechniq?
You'll probably make it a manual but its not an improvement.
how come the paint work wasn't done in hammonds shop?
I almost cried seeing a 126 there. Thank you owner of it, whoever you are, for keeping such legend alive
My kids favourite car!!
Una 126 in Inghilterra é davvero rara
Saw it and instantly came to the comments
My friend own's 1
126??
That's the M5 officially protected for many years to come 👌 buzzing to show you guys the next couple of videos on this car
Please don't manual swap it!
Mike when you going to address the Mad Ford controversy?
Mike, the only thing you should change on the BMW is the radiator. An all-aluminum radiator would be the best option. I've talked with BMW technicians, and they've admitted the recycled-plastic end tanks of the factory radiator are the weakest part of ALL BMW's cooling systems. Also, I'm a tow truck driver in the San Franciso Bay Area in California, and the only reason I need to tow BMWs is for overheating. Well, okay, severe coalitions as well, but that's not the car's fault.
Other than that, if you intend to change anything else, you should sell this estate to someone who won't ruin this car and will enjoy it as it is. To quote James, "SANTERD!" James is right. Vehicles of this caliber and higher should only be maintained, driven, and enjoyed as they were intended by the manufacturer. If you want a project car to modify like a tasteless, tacky American lacking reason, common sense, or mechanical sympathy, please buy a different vehicle to mutilate.
Mike, You still want to change this fine example of German engineering?
You want to modify a nearly factory condition, rare, desired, sought-after by those who can't afford it yet car and make changes to it like a board teenager that just got their license to drive?
You can't take the hint can you. Did you not understand why commenters successfully stopped you from changing this car's color?
If you want to be like Rob Dahm or some other You Tuber, do it to a car NO ONE will be bothered if it was given a new life. Like a car that has been wrecked or has no hope of being what it was when it was first sold.
Take the hint, mate. You're not the right person for this car.
@@guy_fox_4275 Bit much init mate?
PPF is beyond worth it. When I custom ordered my C7, I had it put on the day it came in. 32k miles later, and no scratches/dings etc. The peace of mind you get from being able to not worry about rock chips, or where you park it, or swirl marks from how you wash it, etc. 100% worth it.
I'll never understand anyone who gets something really nice, or just something they deeply care about, that doesn't use PPF.
Additional benefit is it protects you from Tigers and Aliens too! After all you've not been mauled by a tiger or abducted by an alien since.
ua-cam.com/video/xSVqLHghLpw/v-deo.html
It's the gift that keeps on giving... well worth every penny!
I get that it looks nice but how can you not understand that some people don’t have the money for it? I love my car but I can just about afford to run it.
Because most people don’t have expensive cars worth protecting the paint of. At that point you are just saving the paint for the next owner.
Ppf is boring, what are you saving the paint for? Give the car some character.
@@Master1906 I can definitely understand if you don't have the money for it, but I see people with Lambos, and Ferraris, etc that don't do it.
Can’t wait for the manual swap! With it this will literally be the perfect car🔥 All the boot space, all the power, all the sound and all the character😍
NGL , that scratching part was really hard to watch!!!!!! Happy to see such a great car get the tlc is deserves. Normally I'm not a BMW fan , but when someone finds a unique car and falls in love with it , you can't help but feel the same as they do . Cheers !!!!!!
Got that thing looking super fresh. That PPF and ceramic coating is insane.
Applying PPF looks like the perfect job for Captain Slow.
I have a heighten respect for the tech guys installing that PPF film. I just did a full wrap PPF kit job on a carbon bicycle frame and it was by far the most time consuming and stressful things I've done to maintain a bike. The heat healing properties are pretty cool and this is great technology for car enthusiasts alike.
Loving the series, wish I could spend this kind of money on mine, living vicariously through you at the moment! Coilovers next?
I feel the exact same. Would love to do it to my M5 but it's a lot of money
It’ll be a manual gearbox swap
@@AsadMulla hau match?
@@Jesse-2531 PPF would be about £500 for front only. Then there is the Ceramic coating, respray, detailing. That's going into the thousands

honestly doesn't look like a 2007 car anymore, amazing work!
The M5 vids are the best loving this new project so much
This was so satisfying until the bonnet scratching then I had knots in my stomach. Looks amazing with the new coat!!

7:50 Number 1 rule - always pull your squeegee, never push it. 8:38 proceeds to push his squeegee!
"Do as I say not as I do."
Part of my job is applying Protection Pro film to mobile phones. Its incredibly satisfying, and mostly the same as the application of the PPF to this BMW, just at a much much smaller scale.
Similar process, install gel goes on, then the film, then a squeegee to pull the gel out, and finally a heat gun to help with the edges of phones with curved screens.
Yes, its an OCD sufferer's therapy. I don't have OCD of course. I have CDO, which is like OCD but the letters ARE IN THE CORRECT ORDER.
I remember in the 1990's, we used to have a show in Australia called Beyond 2000 that would show what technologies and gadgets we might have in the future. Most of it was just fantasy, stabs in the dark but it was a cool show no less. I remember one of them being a self-healing paint or film that would rectify any scratches with a bit of heat. Well... here we are.
I watched beyond 2000 on discovery as a kid, with Arthur C Clark, memories :)
I'm a backyard science kinda kid, another great australian show
That wire brush actually had me shuddering no wonder you gagged I was half way there myself 😂
Stunner - this makes me miss my E60 M5 so much.
Love it! Brilliant to see this getting better and better!
Sounds like the change he mentioned alludes to the gearbox... I’d love to see it run a manual to be fair 😀
Looks absolutely amazing - lovely job on a lovely bit of kit!
Car looks amazing!
Fantastic job!!!!
Absolutely love love this beast!!!
That M5 is looking mental. Top stuff.
Ooh... Taking the wire brush to the hood made my stomach knot up, especially after seeing how fantastic she looked after the full detailing. I sure am glad that protection worked!!
Very impressive.
PPF & ceramic coating on top, didn't know this is something that can be done.
Looking forward to seeing the next episode.
🎯🍻
I'm happy you're keeping it factory, since it's a 1 of 1 and quite an important car it turns out. Any other iteration of this model is just another BMW, but I think it is awesome to preserve the automotive history this car is part of. Watched the Hoonigans touring the Subaru Legacy collection the other day. So many great cars, that don't look too special but have a great story behind them. I my opinion, this BMW belongs in the BMW UK collection for what it is.
PPF is a lifesaver
Finally a real car in the show, the blue FIAT 126.
That car wrap is amazing with how it makes the scratches disappear^^ unbelievable
I luuuurv this car.
Only one word, "Awesome".
I took my old V8 Vantage to a place to get a quote on what it would cost to get PPF and ceramic coating like this. The cost was $4,200. And that was a few years ago, so it's probably $5-6k now. Yeesh.
Worth it imo, if you can afford it. Makes it super easy to keep clean
I paid a bit less 11 months ago for my GT3, I paid £3000 11 months ago (no so called ceramic coating though) i had to have it resprayed due to chips etc. 11 months later, not a single mark on it. I use it for work 6 days a week and track it about once a month.
Almost cried when Mike scratched the bonnet but now seeing ppf abilities, I really want to put ppf on my Saab ttid wagon as well. It's like magic
🙌👍👍👍👍👍 nailed it the viewers where 100% correct like the job on the paint
I love that 126p in the background right next to a Ferrari ;)
That gray 126p gave me major deja vu...
Loving the videos , keep them coming!
7:50 "Always pull your squeegee, never push"
8:35 *Proceeds to push squeegee*
I guess you have to advance to Jedi squeegee master before being allowed to do that :D Do as I say, not as I do for now!
Hope this film doesn't yellow or end up flaky or generally go nasty after a few years of UV exposure then take the paint off with it. But then the current vehicle owner will have sold and moved on to the new shiny by the time that happens anyway and a new cottage industry will appear - "PPF Renovation Specialists". They'll also offer to do Titanium Ion Finish Coat which far exceeds the performance of the current measly ceramic crud.
All work for the working person to do I suppose. :D
Looks magical
A Very nice ride man , well done and CHEERS from CALIFORNIA !
This is defenitely a gentlemans car you tube channel. I love it.
That Peter dude, holding a bottle of woohbooh, wearing a polo shirt from Ralph Lauren. You can't get it more British than that.
Out if everything in this, ive got my eye on that light blue Polski fiat! Lovley little car.
Seriously, the scratch is gone 😱 Nice 👍🏻
Another shiny car for the cameramen/women to be frustrated at while they try to avoid showing their reflections :D (sorry guys, I feel your pain ! lol). Really enjoying these recent videos, it's so relaxing to watch
Great vid lads. Keep it up 👍
As always Michael nice job 👍👍

Manual conversion inbound at Everything M3's!
Very impressive REEP 👍
Love the drivetribe!!
Wow looks awesome
The car looks nothing short of phenomenal
I'm not a fan of Beamers, generally speaking but there's no denying that it looks really great.
I thought they said a few months back they were gonna shutdown the drivetribe channel? I'm happy it's still going, would be nice to see more Jeremy & James as well.
I think (and [citation needed] may apply here!) that they were shutting down the Drivetribe website, but keeping the UA-cam channel.
You guys in the uk are so lucky. In s.A the m5 is equivalent of 300k still. The cars you guys get to own is just dreams for us.
The car looks amazing! The E60 M5 may be one of the more controversial chapters in BMW M history, but it would be very hard to find a cooler wagon.
That guy was a savage for forcing you to do that. Still if I ever get a decent car, I know what I'll be doing to it at least.
That ppf is just stuning
Gotta love BMW for building a masterpiece like that 🔥🔥
no joke i legit had to stop myself from puking when we he was using that wire brush
Love having them both gag while scratching it 😂
Impressive… would not be able to wield the wire brush like you did Mike, he looked so smug!!!
this is the best auto channel on UA-cam!!
Thank you for listening.
Man I love this car.
scratching the bonnet was like finger nails down a chalk board ...................... great to see how the guys apply the film, cheers, Garry from DownUnder
ITS 00.00 HERE
BUT DRIVETRIBE POSTED
SOOO GOTTA POSTPONE SLEEP
Mike the car looks amazing! You should consider getting a Drivetribe badge made by a company called "The Plategram". That would look really cool I think!
For me that's cooler than actual magic.
Manual swap is definitely going to be the next change!!
Thought the exact same! The shot of the auto gear shift when he mentioned the "cool change" hahah
Mint - enough said !
I wish there were quality shops like these in America
Mike! Swap a manual in it! It looks gorgeous btw!
Yesss what a car!
best wrap for that car
showroom ready.
Literally has to be the cleanest m5 in the country easy
Best ads ever. 👍👍👍
Oooooo manual swap incoming, that's going to be pretty awesome
Teasing a manual conversion👀👀👀🤞
126 amazing around the rest of super cars 👍
That is a beautiful car...
Never a better opportunity to wrap it....🤣🤣
I think the 2016 BMWs have the best grille, but the color of this one is still lovely
1:15 they've got a Fiat 126p next to a Ferrari. Oh my :D
Incoming manual swap? YEES
Wow that looks amazing. I bet I feel a manual transmission coming!
beautiful
Saying paint correction is a bid bold ( not to use a stronger word) for a brand new paint done a few weeks ago by another high end paint shop :D
Man that was pleasing and soothing to watch; soothing, until it wasn't for a moment. 😖🙈 Then thankfully a spotless ending to it all
The SMG is part of the character, manual conversion coming I suspect.
7:50 Number 1 rule - always pull your squeegee, never push it. 8:37 proceeds to push squeegee!
I'm convinced. I'm getting a 2023 S4 in velvet purple. I'll be picking it up with PPF and ceramic coating. I'm going down to my dealer to let them know today. Thank you.
Manual 'box, next? It did look mint, by the way, and that film/coating combo makes getting a really top notch paint job done a far better bet, as you now have the tools to be able to keep it looking that way. I think I probably missed it, but did you say whether the film is UV protective, too?
Now it looks fab. Pristine. Keep it that way now!!! Throw away that wire brush!!!!
Great video Mike, the car looks great. You missed out one thing, the cost of all that work.
Its that old saying, if you have to ask you can't afford it...
@@zybch The point is can they!!!! And is it worth doing.
That wasn't a heat gun... that was a freakin' magic wand.
Jay Leno and Drive Tribe must watch youtube
