It only took Richard Hammond one lap in our BMW M5 Touring to break it! Mike takes the car back to Everything M to diagnose the result of Richard's drive in the V10 estate, and to get everything back spick and span!

@@damanjud Don't you have Carfax?
@@theriddler1168 just googled it and we do thank you for the heads up 😀😀
If you translate the title to human English it would mean something like "Hey you idiot subscriber, clicked on it again! What a duck :D But we love you, don't forget to click notify bell and like the video and go to our sponsors website!"
y can press a button and a new pressure registred from menu in the car
I guess "Richard Hammon Broke the M5" is a better title than "We bought a new radiator".
🥲

@@greensoul8121 Yes, hence I made the comment....I know...I was going to say "click bait" but thought i'll be nice(r).
Hammond breaks a motorway?
"Richard Hammond drove the m5 and it had normal issues after being pushed to the limits" doesnt really have the same clickbait feeling does it
To be fair, it wasn’t necessarily Richard‘s fault it broke when it did, but it’s interesting that it did it as soon as he got behind the wheel 😂
It did it so that it could survive before richard crashed it /s
it's a self preservation mechanism, modern cars are programmed to shut down the second they detect richard hammond as to prevent total destruction
@@adityabhargav7879 that’s not sarcasm that’s the truth
@@adityabhargav7879 Hopefully they don't let James May drive it either after what he did to that Evo.
@@BeardedFrog I don't know... a bloke crashes one car, and... 😂
That curious safety inspector 8:31 is adorable!
They have treats on the table. And he is licking their hands when they are working with parts that contain coolant. Could easily have poisoned the poor dog.
I am convinced that Richard Hammond has the super power to break any car he gets within 10ft of. That's why he made his business.
I can hear Richard say "Now hang on a minute!" when seeing the title of this video!
7:53 - love the dog's inspection of the radiator.
The doggo, irn bru scene and end music gave this such a wholesome vibe. Well done guys
Best part of the video is the dog checking out all the parts
agreed
@@GDLean12 yeah, it was pretty pawsome
Not to mention Enzo sitting patiently between them, following along the conversation.
As a fellow E60 M5 owner, I can’t explain how much I love watching these videos, but also how jealous I get seeing yours in such perfect condition. Hopefully someday I’ll be able to get mine to that level!
Lucky person! I opted for a 535xi, still jealous of the V10. But at the time awd was the way for me to go. Too bad they didn’t put the S85 engine in a car with awd
@@violinmiata I’m with you! That would’ve been super cool and definitely the one to get if you live in Michigan☠️
@@masoncordell6171 I’m in Indiana, not too far off! Cheers midwestern friend
I have to admit I'm not a BMW fan, but love watching your V10 and what you do with it.
I wonder what hammond’s auto insurance is like. Is there any company willing to cover him given his propensity for destroying cars?
Fleet insurance I'm sure
They won't claim on the Insurance anyways
Loss Leader???
Now he's got the workshop.. He can finally be fully legal on the road and not a doctor or what ever he was claiming beforehand.. lolol.
Company insurance for the cars he wrecks on TV, so it doesn't affect him. His personal insurance must be quite steep though, given his reputation.
When Hammond is behind the wheel, the probability of him breaking something is very high 😂
Either breaking something or breaking everything all at once.
Hello. I'm Richard Hammooooooooooops, I've broken it..
It's just revenge for breaking his truck!
hehe
No matter who is at the helm, BMW's of the modern era are fragile. The CE light goes on if the car doesn't like anything. Like your shoes, or the fact that you slammed the door.
Mike and this M5 is a true gem!
Thank you so much for the fantastic content team
The dog at 8:43 :)))
Thanks
The Dodge Charger Hellcat makes an appearance, and Mike sitting on the tailgate of a Dodge RAM pickup truck---this warms the cockles of my MoPar-loving heart!
Finding a shop that is honest can be difficult and expensive....a honest shop is a joy ...
Can we all agree that Enzo made this video better?
Best doggo
uh no
Keep going with the workshop content! Love seeing work being done on cars.
Boy I wish you could have spent more time on them straightening the wheels I would have liked to seen more of that process
Gee golly, can you draw a circle, start a fire, and find something heavy?
That's all they do.
Must say guys that over the last 6 months or so this channel has slowly but surely crept into the absolute top list of my favourite channels.
Please keep doing what you're doing!
Cheers. 🍻❤😁
I don't know if anyone has ever said this but I appreciate your content and the work you do. Keep it up!
What do you know?
The radiators weren't even that bad. If Hammond took that for a lap again it would probably get hot again. Should've went for larger radiators and coolers
I think they want to keep everything in the car original or factory correct
@@barjonahbuxton3264 you mean like the manual gearbox out of a m3
@@barjonahbuxton3264 The cold air intake system Mike had installed certainly is not stock.
I understand the whole keeping it original argument. But at the end of the day it has an M3's transmission in it, so that argument is thrown out of the window.
Now it's about keeping that V10 cool and happy, and that's MUCH more important than keeping an unoriginal car original
@@BigHumz155 There is simply no need for aftermarket parts. The original parts are more than capable of keeping the car in its ideal temperature range under ANY conditions. Otherwise you'd all knew there was a problem 15 years ago......but there were NEVER any complaints about the cooling system...... at least Sabine Schmitz never had anything bad to say about the M5 V10..... and if that won't convince you nothing will.
Saw a funny video on youtube yesterday, the title was summit like 6 minutes and 21 seconds of richard hammond crashing, very informative lol keep strong drivetribe 🤘
8:37... Cheeky biscuit to keep the hound interested too! Great vid.
This is exactly why for most of us, buying our 'attainable dream cars' from 15 years ago in our 30s now is a BAD idea haha. Ive seen it so many times, you fix one thing, you pay, and its instantly something else that wouldn't of been looked at, and so on and so on and so on, until divorce hahaha.
8:25 I have never seen a dog so interested in a M3 radiator before, the intensity on his face! lol
I'm in love with that dog. He's SO CUTE!!
Such a brilliant quality video. Great stuff
I thought I came here for car content, but ended up wanting more dog content. Labs and fast beemers, there's an Instagram/UA-cam account I'm here for
That’s exactly what I was thinking!
Yes! The traction control aspect was such a let down on the otherwise perfect manual swap...so glad you persevered! 👍 spot on 👌
Steve and Co at SGM race paints are top guys. Done excellent job on the various wheels they’ve done for me in the past!
Enzo the master mechanic making sure everything goes as planned 🐶
New to the channel, love the content. Shout out to the video and editing side of things. Absolutely stunning work
Just love the videos with this beast 🔥🔥
Great work keeping the awesome v10 in great health .
This was just a BMW being a BMW
Mike, your doing an amazing job with the channel ,
You make DriveTribe
Thats Classic Richard Hammond Moment right there!
Enzo the dog is by far and away the star of this video!!!!!
Besides everything else, love the Labs! Beautiful dogs...
Great video! Love that M5
I loved Thermo and Heat Transfer too Mike, in fact I ended up researching heat transfer for my masters. Finishing up with my thesis now!

I can't stress how much I love this car! ❤️❤️❤️
If I had a M series, I now know where I would be taking my car! Brilliant video as always!
Brilliant video drivetribe…and what content 👌👌👍
Super,Thank You🍀
What a fantastic show👍
Hi from Oz, a big thumbs up for Enzo & Co.
Love the dog keeping a close eye on those biscuits
Love the IRN BRU. Wish we could get it in the states!
I would love to see you test the m5 on a hot day to see if it really made a difference and if temps stay below 100c now. i'm considering doing the same coolant refresh myself. Also looking at the upgraded Mishimmoto bolt on oil cooler possibly.
One of the most expensive cars to maintain. And this guy makes repairing it look easy.
Better than his signature upside-down
We had that previous video running at the machine shop that day and 4 of our guys said he's gonna break it .. and now here we are with this video jaja
It's a BMW M5, you should be worried if the warning lights don't come on because that means the car is running fine, and that's not BMW standards!
- The peace and silence once again were disturbed by a screaming of the wild animal
- HAMMOOND!
It should running spot on, for a month that is, then back to the garage, it's a BMW.
Classic bmw, drives well and is really fun, just not for very long
wow. high quality video.
Love your work
what a waste of a delicious IRN-BRU!!! LOL!! where i live in Canada, that stuff is quite pricy, but i remember it well the last time I was in Scotland. Cheers!
I wish I had a shop like that in my area.
Hammond living up to his reputation..great 🤣
I'm literally getting my 08 E92 335i's radiator replaced today. In truth, it's a lot of the cooling system (water pump, thermostat, radiator, tons of hoses) and the front struts.
Nice vid :)
Also: DOGGIE! 😀🐶
That MDM mode is actually quite aggressive. My dad had an e60 m5 back in 2005. Had the MDM mode on and nearly fully turned it round on a dry roundabout
15 years old and the M5 still looks beastly
The e60 was hated when it first came out as well, I always thought it was beautiful though. So much that I bought one lol
That didn’t take long
How is this not the top comment 😂
Maybe a little late for the Beamer, but for the next Drivetribe car it would be cool go see a rolling tally of how much money you guys spend on it over time. Useful for getting an idea of how much a project car really costs for the average joe...
They already did this
@@SMlFFY85 they did a dedicated video totting up how much they spent on it up to that point, but I mean more like a roundup at the end of the video or something adding to the total. Just an idea.
Love the MattWood sticker! ❤
🤤 that car is sooo nice
So, even when Richard does not brake a car, he brakes the car. Lovely!
I guess I’ve “Richard Hammond’ed” my e60 twice.
It’s a 535xi, fyi. At about 110,000 miles was driving a friend to an airport 5 hours away on a 90° day and killed the water pump, and made it to the airport on time. At 160,000 miles ran through the gears to about 80 and blew the well aged coolant lines off of the turbos. Second one was expensive. Long live the e60!! Wish the M5 estate came to the USA, it’s a hero car
Lovely black Labrador (Enzo?) that looks extremely interested in V10 engine maintenance!👍👍👍
Great car, video, channel’
Slam panel. What a name😂👌🏾
Do you also plan on sorting out the rear light message that came up as soon as you switched the car on,as well as the restraint faulty system?
Cars are so much more complicated today to maintain than back when my dad was a motor mechanic back in the 80’s
"The cooling system in this car could do with a bit of an overhaul."
- Every BMW owner, ever.
Doggo is the star of this video, bin the M5 and just more of him please.
I like how Enzo the dog is trying to help.lol
Enzo looks like he’s actually the boss
Bridgestone Potenza Sport, best tires you can buy at the moment
I would love to see a spreadsheet on costs/dates for this vehicle
I like BMW's but they are an absolute pain to work on if you don't have all the right tools. You can tell they were designed for production line efficiency and not ease of maintenance, both on the cars and motorbikes. You have to take half the vehicle apart if you have to get something that is behind a body panel, which is really frustrating. Changing the headlights on certain models means taking he entire front end off. Their engine management software and other electronics are also cumbersome if you don't have the computer to fix it all. Such a shame, because they're often great cars (depending on the model)
It is great to see a pro work on one though, Dara knows them inside out and makes it look so easy! Lots of respect for this man and his dedication.
Amen on that
A lot of BMW are the exact opposite of this, meanwhile there are far more mundane cars that are a service nightmare. Like the e46, quite simple to work on, about the only special tools needed are a $15 cooling fan spanner and an advanced scanner. V10 m5 is definitely not on of those bmw's tho. Notoriously a maintenance disaster.
@@apodski I'm talking about how it is put together, which has been the same for all modern BMW's. They are not designed to work on, but to assemble quickly on a production line.
How much does that advanced scanner cost? Exactly.
I've never come across a car as poorly designed for maintenance as a BMW, with the possible exception of Peugeot.
@@Yvolve Yeah this is exactly it, the access points to parts. You get the impression pretty easily that they're meant to be assembled in big chunks and not taken apart with enough space unless you remove all the other junk around whatever you're getting at. Servicing japanese makes kind of spoils you for that extra thought.
@@Yvolve You can buy a cord for $15 for your laptop, and obtain factory software on the internet and have all the diagnostic and programming capabilities available. BMW factory program is called INPA, cord varies by model.
Wasn't expecting to see golden showers on this channel, normally I have to open an incognito tab to see that sort of thing!
10:23 CarThrottle? Is that you? 🎶
You should visit Sreten of M539 Restorations in Frankfurt.
Just curious as to what that refit/ repair cost on that M5 was... Lots of bits replaced that I'm sure aren't inexpensive... Total cost???
*reads title* sounds about hammond
First time I've ever heard anyone say "favourite subject was themodynamics"
Did you use Evans Waterless coolant in that lovely new rad?
I hope the m5's trip home is going to include Misha Charoudin and the ring
next up nurburgring, cant wait for this beast in the hands of misha!!
Do Evolve do a carbon plenum for the V10? I know they do one for the e92 M3 (V8)… 👀 looking great so far Mike!
A minute?! That's a new record, even for Richard.
There was an awful lot of crud in the fins of one of the radiators when your disassembling. I wonder how much difference simply blowing that out would make? Modern heavy equiment like excavators, skid steers, agricultural tractors etc. automatically change the fan direction after a set period of time, and all sorts of debris gets blown out when that happens.
