    I agree with you like my figs not overly ripe a little bite to them on that fine line of ripe and 1 day prior to picking!
    Most old timers don't like there figs overly ripe they feel they lose texture and that figgy taste!!!
    Thanks for sharing!!!

    I love hearing how excited you get over great figs. Fig season is so short 😔

    Well done, I have just started collecting some figs to grow and still doing in my back yard. What kind of fig I should get…. If you can tell?

      In a cold climate I recommend Hardy Chicago and Ronde de Bordeaux. In a warm climate, it's hard to beat Black Madeira.

    these figs are not the same. i just noticed a difference in my 2 today. i can also see that difference in yours. . there has to be others who have noticed the difference too. i dont want to point it out. i also believe both of these figs have been mislabeled back and forth. maybe by accident and on purpose. the difference is hard to spot. im 100% positive sellers have used both back and forth. the price and hard to tell difference has no doubt caused issues. i will be looking into this further as i make more observations on my own. how many other figs are out there similar to this. who really has what variety? what are they calling it? when i am more certain of these things i will point it out. i dont want to add to the confusion at this point. these things have happened to many other figs fetching less money. there always seems to be something going on when these figs get to that point. i dont see this major problem in other fruit scions. so many mislabels. so many similar figs. there is frustration but overall im happy eating great figs this season.

    I was entranced by your video which was exactly what I was looking for, and then I realized you're also in PA!! I am near Allentown and have been wanting a container fig tree for a very, very long time. I only have room for one tree which I will need to keep pruned as small as possible and winter indoors, so I'd like to dedicate my time and effort into something truly worthwhile (BM KK is my #1 choice). Is this an insane idea for a BM? I am open to any tips, tricks, or recommendations! If at all possible, I would love to purchase a starter or a cutting from you. I am not sure where you're located, but I will happily pick up in person so you wouldn't have to ship.
    Thank You!! :)

      if you have 1 fig and you have never grown them before i would say that choice is a mistake. i would suggest something like celeste 1st. its a great performing fig, easy to grow. most figs taste amazing once you learn how to wait and ripen them proper. you will get way more figs to eat as well. both of these types of figs is harder to grow. more of an advanced fig for people really into the hobby. until you really learn about how to grow figs stay away from this one. any water at the wrong time and the figs will split open. i have both of these and still love my celeste. it was labeled brown turkey from lowes. turns out that was wrong. but i am happy as can be.

    There have been 5 growing seasons since you made this film. Has the Figo Preto proven to be more resistant to rain/humidity than Black Madeira? I just got a surprise cutting of this in my cutting bid I won online. Getting me excited!
    Thanks...

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  3 роки тому +2

      I would say yes. However, it has been later ripening, which has yielded less fruit.

      OK. Well... I will hold onto her for a few years and see how it goes.
      I do live much further South... and plan to get a greenhouse at some point. May put it in-ground inside maybe.

    Many folks on ourfigs and figs4fun sware by the Fig Gods that Preto and B.M. are the same variety.... however you seem to be unaware to this? Do you still think they're separate?

    Would you say the figo preto is a vigorous grower? I had a chance to get BM but i decided against it 'cause I hear they're quite prone to splitting while (as this video confirms) figo preto does not. Seems like a good choice for Houston, Tx.

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  6 років тому +1

      Vigorous may be a strong word for it, but a strong grower. It splits, but not as easily as my BM.

    • @PAFigs

      It is a common fig, so it does not need pollination. I do not have an airlayer for sale at this time.

    Question; once a branch has produced figs, do you have to cut it off since figs only grow on new growth?

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  3 роки тому

      You can, or you can leave them and let your tree grow larger.

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  5 років тому +2

      You need to find a reputable hobbiest. There are too many scams on eBay and other internet sites. I sell some occassionaly and they aren't cheap, but I have 3+ years of video proof that mine are legit :)

    I've recently moved from Pittsburgh PA to Thailand. What varieties would you recommend for hot and humid climate?

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  5 років тому +1

      Figs in general struggle in humidity. You may need to pick them early to prevent explosion and spoiling. I'd start with Violette de Bordeaux.

    Figo Preto

    • @PAFigs
      @PAFigs  4 роки тому

      Correct. Fico is Italian, while Figo is Portuguese. Since this fig originated from Portugal, it should be Figo Preto. I'll see if I can correct the title of this old video.
