Ronde de Bordeaux, Bifere, and Improved Celeste Figs
Mine has very few seeds.
What’s an swd?
Hey PA, i just wanna ask about genovese nero. Is genovese nero and genovese nero AF the same? If not, which one is better?
Yes they should be the same. AF are just the initials of the person it came from.
Finally, after being patient, I think for a few years, I will have just 1 black mission fig here in PA. It just started swelling, so I will see.
Nice looking fig good and to know about the bird bath. I need to fill mine.
Hey Nick. Could it be Martinenca?
That's very possible!
A friend of mine gave me cuttings from a fig tree at a community farm in Philadelphia. She didn't know what variety it was either. But the figs are coming in now and I'm trying to beat the birds and squirrels to them. Mine is in the ground and not in a pot. I don't have anywhere to put the figs for winter.
Nice fig buddy.
@8:38 NOT wild GRAPES. POKEWEED! TOXIC!!! ...Although the early-spring greens are a nutritious and tasty traditional Southern delicacy. (I believe its called "poke salad".) BUT you MUST harvest them at the right stage and COOK CORRECTLY or its still poison. Also the berries have been used as a dye and supposedly can be used to treat arthritis (some people swallow a couple frozen berries a day ***WITHOUT CHEWING***) but the seeds inside are SO TOXIC its probably kinda dangerous...
I’m glad they made it and I could repay the generosity. I would say Angelito is a California seedling and step above WM#1.
Excellent, I look forward to trying it one day!
How in the world you don't know about Angelito blows my mind. He did you a Major solid and that's no joke. Now that's a good friend
I wonder who set those tree?
@@matthewking2209 must be some really awesome dude for sure! lol
My figs are tasty, the squirrels discovered it too and chew through the little bags!
I had a fig tree grow from seed from a few years ago in the ground. Probably came from one of the figs that fell off and sprouted. Ironically it grew THROUGH the weed fabric. Now within 3 years the thing is taller than my house. Crazy how fast they grow in the ground! Also, the Chicago Hardy is a surprisingly tasty variety!
Great Channel buddy!
I’m still waiting 😢.
I need to do something with fig in my garden
One of the figs on my wish list. Hopefully get one this year.
I believe I've gotten cuttings from you. Nice looking trees. I'm up to 70 types now most of them new to the collection so nothing special. Thanks for what you do. Figs are almost true free market. That's rare
I love you comment "I'm going to finish this guy off" 😂😂😂
A perfectly ripened RDB.
😂 I was about to report this video as fake news, but decided to watch first. I've grown and tasted over 200 varieties, still have over 100 and BNR is in my top 10 with top notch figs like Preto, Cessac, Ondata, HDA and CDD Roja
Enjoying my Brogiotto Nero 1st batch here in the Netherlands. Tree is full of figs for round two later this summer. The wet spring made a good yield this year.
Hey do u also grow other varieties? And is the brogiotto nero one the brebas?
@@adnanabdi3487 Nope just figs, no brevas. I have just one tree, That’s the Brogiotto Nero. I hope to add a Black madera if I can get one over here. What do you have?
i have 5 RDB's..3 are 3rd year 2 are 1yr..excepting 1, all in pots..the 3 each have figs just they are not getting ripe or proper size?..maybe i'm inpatient?..
Yes be patient, they will ripen!
My improved Celest is my first too usually or Olympian.
I need RDB. I have VDB but nothing on that yet ripe. 10 inches of rain coming for us.
Yikes, that's a LOT of rain. I'm hoping we get some dry weather soon for better ripening.
so early, I havent gotten many main crop yet here in South Jersey.
My RdB’s molded on me with this recent rain and humidity.
Ugh, I hate it when that happens. I'm expecting the same this week.
Been pretty cool in Ventura CA, my figs are taking a break from ripping, desert king the only one I have gotten much ripened fruit off of this year.
Wow! Finally an excellent source of fig tree growing knowledge. I’ve been chicken to try to grow figs, but now I’m feeling more confident. What part of PA are you located? I’m in NE Ohio, just 1-1/2 hours from the PA border in Massillon, Ohio. I think I’m in zone 5 or 6 and have been concerned about growing figs successfully.
I'm near Pottstown,PA.
Can they survive western pa winters?
I store them inside my garage in the winter. Outside, if planted against the south side of the house, my Chicago Hardy has done well.
Could I grow this in a zone 8A in ground possibly?
Yes I believe so
Hi Nick, think we will get a Pota de cavall progress update this season?
I'll try to remember in my next video
Sorry to see your Black Madeira didn't make it through the winter, I'm in the UK, we've had really wet cold weather recently. The weed might be bindweed or morning glory, I've had similar weeds before, don't let them flower and seed it it'll get much worse, good luck
I have heard some shade cloth can be usefull mid summer, for figs!
What soil mix do you use for your figs?
If you search my channel, I did a video on making my mix. For the most part, figs are not picky. I like to use a mix of potting mix, pine bark, manure, and perlite for new trees. After root prooning, I primarily backfill with a blend of potting mix and manure.
Im in PA as well with on tree in the ground; it seems slightly behind this year.
You have nice size trees surprise the die off of a big tree like that. Can you put them in the ground and just deal with the die back rather than loosen them all together?
@jackhart1883 I've had pretty poor results with in ground trees here in PA. I have a Hardy Chicago that does well planted against the house on the south side. Without the protection of the house, they don't do well.
Do you root prune your trees, as well as pruning back the top growth? Could some of them maybe need a bit of rejuvenation? Hope some start ripening for you soon 🌿🙌
@@hopeitgrows2892 i root prune every 3 years. It is probably coming up on that time next year!
Have the same chicken coop. Its nice just tough to clean out.
My wonderful wife tends to do it most of the time. It's a few years old at this point and showing its age. I'd like to build a new one this fall.
That is Morning Glory. I have a ton too.
At least related to morning glory, a bit too big to be bindweed. Could be wild morning glory with mostly white to slight pink blooms. Get rid of them, they spread like crazy😂
South Jersey here, super cold wet spring and super hot end of june and july with 0 real rain in over a month. Black Madeira 0 figs, Figo Preto full odd.
Im in Southern California on the coast, just north LA. I have gotten some good fruit off my desrt King not much other fruit ripening yet. Had some huge fruit too.
My figs are almost the same size as yours and I’m in central Florida.
@@davidwelty9763 hopefully both purs ripen nicely!
What is an SWD region?
Spotted Wing Drosophila... it is a type of fruit fly that wreaks havoc on my crop yearly.
beautiful trees! thanks for sharing your backyard space with us,,,cheers!!!
Necesito unos esquejes...yaaaaaaa
I left two fig trees uncovered this year while others were protected. They are a full month behind the protected trees and look very rough
That's a bummer. They should grow much faster and stronger than the potted though, so maybe they will catch up.
Is this a UV shade too or does sunlight still get in?
Sunlight still gets through.
Go trump
I had good success with my Flanders last season looking forward to it again
