    Great video, as always, Ben. Your evaluations will be used for my future reference. My Chicago Hardy, here in Yakima valley (zone 7A), froze to the ground last winter because of below 0 F. temperatures, which aren't really common any more around here, but the new growth managed to start producing ripe figs on Oct. 1, but then it started getting colder and we got our first freeze 3 weeks later. I got to eat a few figs from them, as well as a few from Oregon Prolific, celeste, and LSU Purple. I was disappointed that my Hollier didn't produce any ripe figs, since it is usually my earliest as far as brebas and main crop figs. My in ground figs seem to suffer very little, if any wood damage as long as the temperatures don't fall below +10 F. Below that, then I start seeing some dieback........more on some varieties than others.

      heystevo We are in zone 7B and 10 seems to be tipping point for us as well. I only have 3 varieties in the ground. Everything else is happy in our mushroom building.

    WOW Ben excellent video, I really like what you've done here, amazing I haven't seen anything like it very interesting loved it! Inregard to the fig in the green house escaping the pot, I have noticed that when fig trees do this it for some reason grows like mad & fig trees seem to enjoy it some how givens them a boost of strength & grow real fast when you let them grow through the pot in my experience.

    • @BenBSeattle
      @BenBSeattle  7 років тому +2

      Yeah it's like growing them partially in ground with lots more nutrients that they can feed from.

    Hey, thanks for the great video! Which figs have you found most successful outdoors here? I work with a farm on Orcas Island where we tried many different kinds. Desert King is super reliable, but a lot of the others don't really seem to produce much outdoors (at least not every year).

    Excellent video and I really enjoyed your description of the LSU tiger...after watching this I have been looking up everything I can about the LSU tiger, even bidding on cuttings on eBay in the hopes of having one like yours.The descriptions I keep reading look/sound different though, just curious what features brought you too realize it is the Tiger, and if you're going to sell or trade some cuttings of that one in the future 😎 Thanks for all the excellent fig videos!

    What do you think for Celeste, Verte, Negronne, Panache, Martineca Rimada and other rimada's family....?
    Would be awesome to hear some reviews from you for those varities....

    • @BenBSeattle
      @BenBSeattle  6 років тому

      Celeste, I didnt do a video on it but I have a score on my blog for 2017, sweet decent fig to munch on. Panache I cannot ripen here in Seattle, MR is also a tough one to fruit here. Most of the striped figs are tough to fruit here, that's why I want the popone or RDS BV.

    Hi Ben,
    I am actually in hunt of a good fig for OUTDOORS. It will be great if you score them in that subcategory (I believe somebody asked you that before). Also, in terms of tree size, if you have information on size at adult stage.
    Is there a chance to visit your garden, to take a look at your figs? I live in north Seattle. Thanks

    What happened to the Smith fig? I remember you saying how good it is but, that was before the BM... Heard Ross also talk about Smith and how great of a fig it is.

    • @BenBSeattle
      @BenBSeattle  7 років тому +1

      Smith is a great fig, it was one of the figs i kept in the garage. Unfortunately they woke up too soon got real leggy and never fruited. All my garage figs had this issue. There's a garage windows which woke them up too soon

    Hey great video.. I bought 6 figs off your maybe 2 years ago, and i tried to add you on Facebook but you denied my request I'm guessing because you didn't remember who I was. My first name is Brett. I will try adding you again in a few days. Top 10 for Seattle would be much better if you only included 100% outdoor in ground fig trees. Just my opinion. Accept my FB request please, I have a few questions about the figs I purchased from you.

    • @BenBSeattle
      @BenBSeattle  7 років тому

      yes of course sorry if it was denied for any reason, the group is open to all fig enthusiast. This yr I'm leaving half of my fig trees outside for the winter. It will be survival of the fittest.
