- As i can't find it anywhere on youtube and want to share it with others, i uploaded it myself. It is really great done oratorio, recorded in 1994. I love it becuase of really great sound of men and boy's voices. The Choir of King's College, Cambridge with Stephen Cleobury did it great. Even if i am not religious the sound of voices lifts you up.
I am adding also this video for the people who thinks conductor is just a not needed "maniac" waving his stick.

I was the youngest treble in our school choir when we sang this magnificent music in 1945. The glory has lived with me since that day.

@@timothyfreeman97 Not at all ! I am 75 myself, and I sang in Haydn's Creation (Schopfung) until my voice broke. I still sing on my channel, and have started virtually composing music (see my Glastonbury Moreton)
This anthem never gets old. It's like it hasn't been released yet. Always gives me chills. Praise to the GREAT ONE!!!

One of the most magnificent pieces of music ever, in my opinion. When done as beautifully as this it never fails to send chills through me and tears down my face. Remembering that it was written in just 24 days always boggles my mind. I find that quite amazing. It must have been divinely inspired. Thank you, Handel, for such beauty and for the singers/musicians that performed this magnificent work.

40 boys and 20 men sang this piece every new years eve in church. after the 12th bell rang out we sang this Hallelujah---the church will never forget and neither will I.

This song was in the movie, "King of Kings, " I was a small boy when I listened to this song in 1960s. Sang this song with the "Mistrels" in 1976 at Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu, India.

This is the greatest of all music compositions of all time. It was not of human oregon.
The best conductors I ever played for were passionate and demonstrative. They could coax music from you you didn't know you were capable of! And yes, even long time musicians need a head coach to keep it all together.

I have head that Handel fainted when he finished this. It drained him so spiritually. So profound.
I haven't heard that, but supposedly a messenger arrived at Handels' house, and his man couldn't find him to give it to him, but suddenly remembered Handel was in the study working on the score, and went and knocked on the door!! Handel bid him come in and the servant found him apparently awestruck just having finished completing the music, and seemed to be overcome with emotion!! The servant asked him if he was alright!! Handel, answered him, saying "I thought I saw GOD!!!" Surely if one will ever do so it's after finishing such a magnificent task!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As I've aged, I've sung lower and lower parts. I don't think I'll ever hit bass. In HS I sang the soprano part, in college I sang alto, then in my early 30s I dropped down to tenor for a while, but now I'm back to alto, which is my true range. The one thing I don't understand is why all the audience is sitting. This is the one piece, of all classical pieces that people should stand for.

My mother sang in the Pietermaritzburg Philharmonic. I have listened to the Messiah since I was a child. This is magnificent. Only one problem for me.You stand for the Hallelujah Chorus. The King of England stood.

Timothy Freeman it's tradition. Back in the Baroque era, Handel played this with the King in the audience and the King was so moved by it that he stood. Back then if the king stood, then everyone stood. So ever since it's been tradition to stand when this is played.
