The Messiah DVD captures an extraordinary performance in the magnificent setting of the College Chapel. The performance was recorded during this year's Easter at Kings festival and was screened in over 85 cinemas across Europe and North America. It was the first time a choral concert had been broadcast live throughout cinemas.
The critically-acclaimed concert features the Academy of Ancient Music conducted by Stephen Cleobury together with with soloists Ailish Tynan, Alice Coote, Allan Clayton and Matthew Rose, and the King's College Choir. The concert commemorated both the 250th anniversary of the death of George Frideric Handel and the 800th anniversary of the University of Cambridge. - Розваги

The greatest piece of music ever written
What a powerful Hallelujah from such a small ensemble. And a boys/mens choir. It doesn't get more original than this. Beautiful crisp sound.
Praise Jesus Christ, The Messiah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! King of Kings, Forever and ever, Lord of Lords! Wonderful Counselor. The meaning is so clear in Isaiah and Handel put it to music.

Really excellent all around, and I appreciate the solid performance by the trumpeters. They are producing all notes without the aid of valves, just air support, subtle tongue and embouchure shifts, and a few small holes for perfecting intonation. How wonderful that we live in a time when the almost-vanished art of playing the natural Baroque trumpet has been revived.
I have said before: the best and greatest master pieces in arts (music, painting, literature and whatever you may think) have been dedicated to God and his creation. The Handel's Messiah is the most beautiful piece of music that has ever been written and performed in mankind history. It's thrilling specally when it's performed by a fantastic Choir such as King's College's. Beautiful!!!

It amazes me to this day that Handel could have written something so powerful with only a few singers, some strings, 2 trumpets and timpani. Ingenious.

I am so moved even now that I am driven to weep every time I hear this. Handel really must have been imbued with the spirit of our Lord Jesus when He conceived and wrote this. Oh my Word; how moving it is..

The story, possibly apocryphal, is that his man-servant came in and found Handel weeping while he composed the Hallelujah Chorus. Asking Handel what was wrong he is said to have replied that he had seen the gates of Heaven as he was writing the chorus.
