Have heard this so many times in my life and first time to watch a performance with the audience sitting down., It is usual that the audience stand for this piece.

Glad to have this group perform one of my favourite classical works of art, Messiah, by one of my favourite classical composers, George Frederick Handel. Especially the "Hallelujah" chorus, when the whole audience stood up and after the song, the audience appaluded. He was also a deeply religious person who was well-known to compose this oratorio about Jesus.
Interesting. A German king of the British stood when this song was performed, and then and now by tradition, when the song is performed for English-speaking audiences, many of them stand. While I know few Germans now attend any church, part of me is disappointed that a German audience would not stand for a German composer of an epic work for which the English-speaking world stands. Sorry (Es tut mir Leid), but had to share that perspective.
This is one of the best renditions I've heard. That conductor is awesome. I would love to see a video of just him during this. Question...What happened to the sound @2:41?
From what I understand, the King stood up because the music was so good! Nothing to do with the religion. The Messiah was first performed at Easter and not Christmas. I think this particular performance was the Hallelujah chorus on its own and not a performance of the Messiah, so people remained seated@@joshwintour
Very true! in the UK not only does the chorus stand, but also all the audience!! reason? when the King heard it for the first time he shot to his feel believing he was in the presence of God. Therefore if the King stands, every else has to do the same!
Tradition calls for the audience to stand when the chorus is sung ! Why is this tradition not observed at this performance? It's been a tradition since 23 Mar 1743
@@Antoineduval159i like the Goossens chart much more than all the others for some reason. Love all the trombones and French horns! I think it enhances the power!
King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Jesus will reign forever and ever!!
The conductor is in total control. Wonderful.

Agreed, the Germans don't think like the rest of us.
I love this song
Dirigent...Simon Rattle, absolutely wonderful🎀
The ability of the man to conduct with his eyebrows is magnificent!
Simon Rattle, un genio de la direccion.
Hallelujah :)
Beautiful

Sir Simon rattle good scouser ❤❤❤
Very famous song
I am sorry, this is not a song at all. This is a sacred sung choral work...not everything vocal is a song.
Comparing to other choirs bringing this Handel'Messiah, this is the best one..
❤❤

I’m surprised the audience wasn’t standing.
Me too, they got up the day before yesterday in Warsaw, Poland
May be the audiences think it's not necessary to honor and respect The Lord Almighty

This is a German audience.
If I did not know better i would think this is Karjan conducting
Let God judge those by the same standard that they judge His praise being offered here.
Would they stand?

Absolutely. At first I thought this was Mozart's arrangement (not very often executed). But then... this! Completely cheap.
The German audience didn’t know to stand up!

This should be Jesus Christ national anthem.🙏🫡

That doesn't exist.
When performed in a complete performance of Messiah. This was an encore after Carmina Burana.
And here in the US, too. Although not universally. @user-ey6tw9nc5i
That is not even Händel's score. And you worry about people sitting? Some priorities...
Not even Jesus Christ wants to hear this again
?
The cymbal and the triangle are not on the original score. They caught unnecessary attention and diminishes the music power.
It enhances the power
This is an arrangement by Sir Eugene Goossens.

Yes, completely correct.... they did nothing to enhance the musicality and genius of this famous chorus.
