Teen Pays for College by Naming Chinese Babies

- Beau Jessup has named over 677,000 babies, and it’s earned her enough money to pay for college and more. The teen created a website called “Special Name” that helps Chinese parents decide on an English moniker for their babies. At the age of 16, Beau was asked by one of her father’s work colleagues to help pick an English name for her baby. She recognized the difficulty in choosing a name in a different language, and built a website to help. Inside Edition Digital’s TC Newman has more. #InsideEdition

“You can’t have an email address with Chinese Characters...”
Well, pinyin is a thing, lolz
I think Beau got it wrong. Chinese families tend to give their children english names not because of emails, but because to save their child from embarrassment. Not saying no one can, but if you haven’t been learning Chinese the likeliness of you being able to pronounce their Chinese name correctly, is low. That and there’s also over 200 dialects (there’s over 50,000 Chinese characters. so times that by 200 and you’ve maybe 10 million different pronunciations) so it’s different for everyone.

@@therocksrighteyebrow2167 nice name
Naming the babies wouldn't be so hard if the parents just stuck with Chinese names, but instead they wanted their children's names to be English. I guess that the reason why they were willing to pay this girl to give their babies English names could be due to the fact that English isn't their native language and they didn't want to accidentally screw up their kids' names.
They have a Chinese name . This is just an additional name in English,
It’s hard. I have given someone a name in English before and I myself have a name given to me that is non-English from my Grandfather. For other people I focused on a practical name with many options for nicknames that I thought reflected their personality. It took a while trying out the name too but eventually it stuck. I imagine if you didn’t like the name a 79 cent fee isn’t a lot to get another one.

Only in America would the headline be: "Teen Pays for College..." after making over $407,000. 😄
Edit: I know she is British. I knew she was British when writing the comment as I recognized her accent. However, TedX is an American media organization, and Inside Edition is also an American news broadcasting newsmagazine, so my point still stands, possibly.
