But everything is a double-eaged sword,now I am studying for a master's degree in Germany. Thinking back to my school days, I still feel that the high school life is the most fulfilling and most meaningful.
Actually there are more students sleeping in dorms than those going back home. ( I hardly went home in my high school as there are 64km from my home to school 😂)
@@谢顶浪 I can't imagine practically moving out of one's parent's house at such a young age. Here in Bulgaria out school starts at 7:30 in the morning but it's over at 1:30 in the afternoon. I don't think there was a single student who lived in a dormitory. Still, it's cool that by the time you go to University you guys are already prepared to live independently from your parents. I recently moved out for University and i feel like a headless chicken because i don't know how anything works.
I’m from China and once experienced high school life. When I saw this video, I couldn’t stop crying because it was just so exhausting and overwhelming. I felt heartbroken for my past self and for the high school students now. The pressure is immense-they can’t eat well or sleep well. Even one or two years after graduating from high school, I would often wake up from nightmares, dreaming that I was back in high school and had to start preparing my study plan all over again.
I think it’s just a different way of viewing growth and development. Eastern culture provides society with the job of disciplining and teaching people by shaming, which pushes people to grow, whereas western culture is more of become who you want to be and screw everyone else who disagrees with you. Both are not very healthy and kinda toxic, but both support the core of civilization
Its normal and common for some asians, i'm a high school student here in the Philippines and our school time is 12 hours, sometimes its 13 hours if we have a school activity.
In fact, many students have lived in school dormitories since primary school. When I was in high school, I lived in school, and only one day or half a day a week was at home

I'm from China, and I can tell you how tired when I was a senior high school student! I have to get up early at 6 am and wash my teeth,face and having breakfast only in half hour.Then I go to school before 6:40 and recite Chinese poems, English words,biology and so on.Then I have five class forenoon and four class afternoon, although we can have a break time between two class but teacher may have to use that time.At night, we have many homeworks and finish it always in 11pm, so if in China you may be very very tired and have no time to relax,even in weekend you have class

I did not enjoy school but I cherish the memories. The good the bad. At least I felt I’ve accomplished something in Chinese school, since the school forces you to do extra things. In US school, since you have the choice, I tend to not push myself.

I grew up in America and I loved to china for a year and it was very hard to adapt, I was also very tired since In had loads of homework even thought our school had the least homework and my sports were very very intense as well as the teachers and coaches but I don’t regret experiencing a different way not living I’ve never really seen before!

I am a Chinese student who has just graduated from high school. Chinese students are under a lot of pressure to study, especially in the third year of high school. Before dawn, the school required us to get up and go to the classroom to read early, so we usually had to get out of bed at 5:30 in the morning, otherwise we would be late (if we were late, we would be reprimanded by the class teacher). There are four classes in the morning and four classes in the afternoon, each class is forty-five minutes, and the break between classes is only ten minutes. I would even be late for tuba class during such a short recess! What’s even more outrageous is that the school leaders actually asked us not to make loud noises or get together to play during class breaks! They asked us to sit in our seats and prepare the books for the next class. There is only half an hour for lunch, and one hour for dinner, but there are many students, and it often takes half the time to queue up for lunch. So some students choose to skip meals or just eat snacks that don't fill their stomachs at all. We also need to study in the evening. The teacher assigns us a lot of homework every day, so we often can’t finish writing in one night, so we have to get up early the next morning to make up homework, or be criticized by the teacher in class!

@@eylulsolmaz357 I've been studying at the university for two years now, and the biggest thing I've learned in college is that the academic pressure is a lot easier than in high school. Teachers don't assign a lot of homework, and basically, if you do it carefully, you can finish it in an hour or so. Students are also free to do whatever they are interested in after class. Of course, the end of the semester is the busiest time of the semester, and we are usually so busy with revision that we don't have time to have fun. But what I have mentioned above are only the more common universities. Students from universities like Zhejiang University, which is one of the best universities in mainland China, are under very heavy academic pressure. Many of my high school classmates who are currently studying at Zhejiang University told me that although they have time to do free activities, they have a lot of homework and are often required to do experiments. Besides, as we are approaching graduation, more and more students will worry about their future, so choosing whether to go to graduate school or civil service or to graduate directly becomes a difficult problem for us. Students in this period often suffer from various diseases or even depression due to intense study. The above is my own experience and feelings, I also will soon face this cruel choice, I hope everything will go well.
Highschool in Indonesia is very different. Flag raising ceremony on every Monday, about 40 minutes. Usually around 5 or 6 subjects (Not counting unique subjects like Native Speaking (I'm in a private type of school)) and on Fridays we go home early at 11:20AM because of Friday Prayers. Monday to Thursday we all go home at 3PM. I don't think I'd even last a semester in such a brutal schedule. EDIT: Since there's a few questions in replies even though they've been answered, I will answer as well accompanied with some clarifications. - School on Saturday? Nope. At least for the school I'm attending. Some schools here do Saturday, but most of them don't and the ones that do are typically private schools. As far as I know, public schools don't do Saturday as a school day. - 11:20?! Yes. It is a bit wild, but some schools continue studying until a different time after Friday Prayers. Though I must say that I've been lucky in this regard. All of the schools I attended have us going home before prayers, which is good. And for clarifications, I made this post during 10th Grade, I am now currently 11th Grade. This is in Indonesia, as one of the replies to this comment said. The school I'm attending is quite prestigious, and it IS a private school in a sense, but the school does have a religious ethic.
Kinda sad. They are so use to this but almost like slavery just constant study. I get it you need better qualifications to achieve better jobs but someday these students will come to realise that everything they are doing is just for government satisfaction ad its more like a competition to beat other country education.
I worked at Chinese schools and the first time I saw morning exercises I thought it was the strangest thing. But I grew to love and see true value in it.
This is not just a Chinese thing I guess. It happens in Europe as well. Depending on the course, sometimes you have two back to back classes(Social Sciences) or they are spread out as morning and afternoon(Maths and Sciences)

They assigned the physics and maths teachers to "teach" the lessons that are just basically government propoganda and just have us study maths and Physics instead.

I'm from China , there's no detention in a Chinese high school.If you had some bad behavior at school, the teacher would just call your parents and talk about it.And if you've done some real bad things,your parents would be asked to visit your teacher and have a face-to-face talk about your problem.Which means:You are in trouble.
Oh my god, high school in Italy is much different! We start lessons at 8.00 a.m. and we always have 6 hour-long lessons. Questions to random students are pretty common, but the amount of interaction between the teacher and the students depends both on the subject and on the teacher themselves. We have both written tests and oral tests. There are little to none extracurricular activities; most students do them on their own. I personally participate in a video-making class between 2.30-4.30 p.m. every Thursday, but it's only me and 10 other students, compared to the almost 500 total students of my school. I feel like Italian school is not easy, but it's definitely much less involved than Asian ones (or so I read from the comments!). We do get a lot of homework and we do most of the studying and memorising at home though.

I’ve been used to study and live in China until 12 year’s old I’ve been moved to Australia and became a citizen, now living in Sydney. My life in there was not that brutal as the video had represented but I can prove that this video was never being over-exaggerated. The memories of these days been as mostly the same as a criminal still kicks in when I watching this video although happened 6 years ago for me.
Elementary school is different and nowhere near as brutal as high school. In elementary school, kids generally start school at 8am or 8:30am and end at 4:30pm or so, with a 2-hour lunch break during which many students go home. They can usually do homework on their own time and have time after school and on weekends to pursue extracurricular activities. In high school, on the other hand, all of my cousins have stated they have to be at school by 7am and don't leave until 10pm, and their lunch breaks are shorter as well. Not many students have time to pursue extracurriculars apart from a weekend English class or something. Even during breaks, they're usually stuffed with homework and classes that are technically not allowed to take place but no teacher ever actually abides by the rule because they'll be highly criticized and/or get in trouble for doing so.

Most likely they'll be from another Asian country then, so it wouldn't be a massive issue. Although in general it's a lot more common to go to Western countries for international study, and I guess it's a massive advantage when the work is much easier.
When I went back to China to visit my extended family, they still had school (probably because holiday for me and them weren’t timed together) and I remember this one time, I was about to go to bed at like 5am and she was getting ready for school. I was confused why she was getting up at 5 and she was confused why I was going to sleep at 5. edit bc ppl keep replying: i know going to sleep at 5 isn’t normal and it’s not something i do normally; i’m confused why i went to sleep at 5 as well but whatever happens during the holidays stays in the holidays

They need ideas,inventions problem solvers and many more... and by the way if you didn't have a personnel in the factories working on it. Then a city can't "run" at it's full potential everything that we eat,wear and drink comes from factories or the farms so have some fucking respect for those guys. A lot of college drops out have made the big bucks and had great ideas this ain't the 70s its 2019 and 2020 in less than a month the world has changed and so needs to change the schooling system. My country has some of the best universities in the world and has the roots for the democracy that most of the countries are using as a political system now. You would think that life here is perfect but most of the and not say all of the students that finished University here are jobless. Ideas and mostly robotics are the future

In the UAE (I am an immigrant from India btw) school starts at 7:45 (bus timings depend on where you live) we have something known as a ‘zero period’ which is basically ‘homeroom period’ in the US, this is a time for class teachers to check on the progress of their students, assemblies and announcements are also made during this period in some days as well as study sessions during exam time. Then there are 4 periods that happen continuously each for 40 minutes until break time, which is around 30 mins, students can have lunch, play outside, or just socialize and roam around the campus. Then 4 more periods go by, each for 40 mins until school is over (around 2:00 to 3:00). In the UAE, we have a fixed timetable schedule that is constant and never changes until the start of a new term (semester). We also have half-day schedule on Fridays, meaning there are only 4 periods on that day (In Sharjah students are luckier cuz they get Friday completely off!), Saturdays and Sundays are also a part of the weekend.
Singapore: Teacher says hello and everyone must reply if not you’ll remain standing until u greet or else u stand outside and wait till the discipline master walks past and asks u why you’re standing outside

At my school the teacher yells “Bonjour tous le monde” and we have to respond with “Salut/bonjour mme/mr” or we aren’t continuing since they’ll repeat it
In China, there are even more extreme high schools, such as mine. The school's closed management does not allow students to go out, and electronic devices are also prohibited. Carrying mobile phones will result in dismissal, and male and female students cannot sit next to each other. If students fall in love, they will also be expelled. Students live in collective dormitories. Every morning at 5:30, the bell rings and the first class starts at 5:55. At 10:30 pm, the last class ends, and you must go to bed before 11 pm. There are fourteen classes with a duration of no less than 45 minutes per day, which is basically the same every day. After studying continuously for three weeks, students will take a two-day break and go home to rest.

We had that too in Central Europe but only in winter. Where the sun didn't rise before 8 am and started to go down at 4 pm.... So... We usually walked in the dark to the bus and home again also in the dark. Not everyday though.
I taught in China for 6 years. That classroom looks so small and cramped! Most of the classrooms that I saw were pretty big. And there's one thing that is not in this video: EYE EXERCISES WITH RELAXING MUSIC COMING OVER THE LOUDSPEAKER!
Those eye exercises were actually so relaxing. I attended grade school in China for a year and I looked forward to those exercises, even do them now when I get eye strain from screen time.
Yeah at first eveyone did them，but when I got to 9th grade eveyone just slept through them.Cuz during 9th grade in China u get to sleep like 5-6hours a night or even less.

This is just what ive seen and experienced in the public education system so this is anecdotal, but I still dont see the problem with students talking while doing their work if the teacher is done with their lecture.

I'm from Germany and my school day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:20pm (4 subjects) or 1:20pm (3 subjects). That's about 6,5 hours less (on a 4 subject day) than in this video... The only difference, that even sets my school apart from a lot of other German schools is, that I have 1 subject for about 1,5 hours. For example: Math begins at 8am and ends at 9:30am. Then a 20 minute break and then a nother subject. This video makes me appreciate all the free time I have!
4 subjects with that long? I can't imagine those who feel bored with that subject but have to endure it for 2 hours, boredom must've really killed the motivation of these students. Keep up the hardwork!
The students movement in my school is proportional to how close the teacher are to the student lol. Basically the farthest one behind are just standing doing nothing if there's no teacher there.

Furthermore, out of the 5300 universities and colleges in America, only 27 are in the top 100 universities in the world, meaning that only one out of about 183 colleges in America are in the top 100. UK on the other hand has about 130 universities, with 20 being in the top 100, meaning that out of every 6.5 universities, one is in the top 100 of the world. Another is Hong Kong, with 20 universities in total, 10 are in the top 100, meaning that 1 in every 2 universities in Hong Kong are in top 100. This proves that the general education in America is complete crap. According to research by Bloomberg, China has the potential to catch up with America in the next ten years. China also has a GDP growth of 6.6% (according to world bank), with America’s only being 2.9%, with Trump promising GDP growth of 4%, which isn’t even close to China’s GDP growth rate. A few factors for economic growth is improved technology, increased investment and increase of work force, all being factors for a country to urbanise. America on the other hand with the lower GDP growth rate, it means that there is less innovation and development in the country, leaving it a less promising future. As things change and innovative, companies like Apple won’t be able to hold on, leaving other companies to be able to catch up.

All top 25 ranking countries are either from Asia or Europe (excluding Macau (as also not a country), Canada, Australia and New Zealand). America is ranked 28th with 97.6 as of 2019. For your reference, the top country, Singapore has a average iq of 107.1. With academic grades, the top 5 countries that has the most percentage of students scoring top marks are also all Asian, with Singapore at number one having 71.37%, America only has 29.84% ranking in 13. According to your logic, Singapore should have lower scores than America, but they don’t. What logic you may ask, well Singapore has zero people that ever won a Nobel prize, and America has 368 as of 2019. This shows pretty well that your logic is outdated and isn’t true, as well as the fact that America has done such a shit job at their public education that they made it hard for themselves to improve.

Thank you for showing school in my native country. I remember going to school on Saturdays for half a day when I was in elementary school in China. My 2 kids went/go to specialized high schools in NYC and their school schedule is almost as hectic. They wake up around 6:00 and get to school around 8:00. They don’t come back until 6:00 and they don’t finish homework until late night, sometimes early morning. We Chinese are the same everywhere we go when it comes to education and work ethics. Others think that is crazy. But to us it’s just the norm. My parents worked 13 hour days, 7 days a week, for 25 years in their restaurant. Zero vacations. Zero days off. (Except for Thanksgiving Day) And we kids went right to work right after school and still had to finish all our homework while at the restaurant. That is the culture. And we will continue to preserve it.
This made me literally realize that getting up at 7:15AM and going back home at 2:25PM is nothing compared to Chinese high schools. I don't know how Chinese people can even live with that much hours of school...

I remember my high school wouldn’t allow students to leave the building for lunch. You had to stay on school premises until the end of the school day. If you were caught trying to go to the store across the street to buy candy or food you were sent to the principals office. Possibly to be expelled. Leaving school grounds during school hours was considered a serious offense. I guess for safety and liability reasons.
Yeah, thats so true. When I was studying in Hong Kong, you were allowed to literally take the train to go a few stations over to the big shopping malls, you could go anywhere within the entire city as long as you made it back to school before the break was over. In my school in Australia, you can't even go to the shopping mall across the street.
I am a Chinese citizen. This video really reminds me of my high school life. When I was 12 years old I studied from 7:00am to 9:00pm each day. This kind of life lasts 6 years, until I took the college entrance examination. Now I am a PhD candidate in UK.

@@eunwoo922 No. Obviously you didnt take high school in China. Only top high school is from 8 am to 5 pm Mon to Fri. 90% high schools are like this from 6 am to 9 pm Mon to Sat. My high school was 10 pm. Also, there are about 10% garbage high school has no night learning session because they do not expect their students can pass the Gaokao to get into college so they give up the night learning time. Daytime classes can already ensure they get into community college equivalency.
This is inhumane, students have absolutely no time to form relationships with friends and be close with their family. Even if they do absolutely nothing once they arrive home and just straight to sleep they will STILL be sleep deprived. That too, most of the stuff learned is just memorization which the students will forget once they are done studying. Pretty sad.

The quietness in the classroom is something I wish schools had in Australia, I stayed back after school all the time to get work done. I’m from China and once experienced high school life. When I saw this video, I couldn’t stop crying because it was just so exhausting and overwhelming. I felt heartbroken for my past self and for the high school students now. The pressure is immense-they can’t eat well or sleep well. Even one or two years after graduating from high school, I would often wake up from nightmares, dreaming that I was back in high school and had to start preparing my study plan all over again.

I have to get up early at 6 am and wash my teeth,face and having breakfast only in half hour.Then I go to school before 6:40 and recite Chinese poems, English words,biology and so on.Then I have five class forenoon and four class afternoon, although we can have a break time between two class but teacher may have to use that time.At night, we have many homeworks and finish it always in 11pm, so if in China you may be very very tired and have no time to relax,even in weekend you have class

I am a Chinese student who has just graduated from high school. Chinese students are under a lot of pressure to study, especially in the third year of high school. Before dawn, the school required us to get up and go to the classroom to read early, so we usually had to get out of bed at 5:30 in the morning, otherwise we would be late (if we were late, we would be reprimanded by the class teacher). There are four classes in the morning and four classes in the afternoon, each class is forty-five minutes, and the break between classes is only ten minutes. I would even be late for tuba class during such a short recess! What’s even more outrageous is that the school leaders actually asked us not to make loud noises or get together to play during class breaks! They asked us to sit in our seats and prepare the books for the next class. There is only half an hour for lunch, and one hour for dinner, but there are many students, and it often takes half the time to queue up for lunch. So some students choose to skip meals or just eat snacks that don't fill their stomachs at all. We also need to study in the evening. The teacher assigns us a lot of homework every day, so we often can’t finish writing in one night, so we have to get up early the next morning to make up homework, or be criticized by the teacher in class!

@@eylulsolmaz357 I've been studying at the university for two years now, and the biggest thing I've learned in college is that the academic pressure is a lot easier than in high school. Teachers don't assign a lot of homework, and basically, if you do it carefully, you can finish it in an hour or so. Students are also free to do whatever they are interested in after class. Of course, the end of the semester is the busiest time of the semester, and we are usually so busy with revision that we don't have time to have fun.
But what I have mentioned above are only the more common universities. Students from universities like Zhejiang University, which is one of the best universities in mainland China, are under very heavy academic pressure. Many of my high school classmates who are currently studying at Zhejiang University told me that although they have time to do free activities, they have a lot of homework and are often required to do experiments.
Besides, as we are approaching graduation, more and more students will worry about their future, so choosing whether to go to graduate school or civil service or to graduate directly becomes a difficult problem for us. Students in this period often suffer from various diseases or even depression due to intense study.
The above is my own experience and feelings, I also will soon face this cruel choice, I hope everything will go well.

Highschool in Indonesia is very different. Flag raising ceremony on every Monday, about 40 minutes. Usually around 5 or 6 subjects (Not counting unique subjects like Native Speaking (I'm in a private type of school)) and on Fridays we go home early at 11:20AM because of Friday Prayers. Monday to Thursday we all go home at 3PM. I don't think I'd even last a semester in such a brutal schedule.
EDIT: Since there's a few questions in replies even though they've been answered, I will answer as well accompanied with some clarifications.

Nope. At least for the school I'm attending. Some schools here do Saturday, but most of them don't and the ones that do are typically private schools. As far as I know, public schools don't do Saturday as a school day.
- 11:20?!
Yes. It is a bit wild, but some schools continue studying until a different time after Friday Prayers. Though I must say that I've been lucky in this regard. All of the schools I attended have us going home before prayers, which is good.
And for clarifications, I made this post during 10th Grade, I am now currently 11th Grade. This is in Indonesia, as one of the replies to this comment said. The school I'm attending is quite prestigious, and it IS a private school in a sense, but the school does have a religious ethic.

Oh my god, high school in Italy is much different! We start lessons at 8.00 a.m. and we always have 6 hour-long lessons. Questions to random students are pretty common, but the amount of interaction between the teacher and the students depends both on the subject and on the teacher themselves. We have both written tests and oral tests.
There are little to none extracurricular activities; most students do them on their own. I personally participate in a video-making class between 2.30-4.30 p.m. every Thursday, but it's only me and 10 other students, compared to the almost 500 total students of my school.
I feel like Italian school is not easy, but it's definitely much less involved than Asian ones (or so I read from the comments!). We do get a lot of homework and we do most of the studying and memorising at home though.

I’ve been used to study and live in China until 12 year’s old I’ve been moved to Australia and became a citizen, now living in Sydney. My life in there was not that brutal as the video had represented but I can prove that this video was never being over-exaggerated. Elementary school is different and nowhere near as brutal as high school. In elementary school, kids generally start school at 8am or 8:30am and end at 4:30pm or so, with a 2-hour lunch break during which many students go home. They can usually do homework on their own time and have time after school and on weekends to pursue extracurricular activities. In high school, on the other hand, all of my cousins have stated they have to be at school by 7am and don't leave until 10pm, and their lunch breaks are shorter as well. Not many students have time to pursue extracurriculars apart from a weekend English class or something. Even during breaks, they're usually stuffed with homework and classes that are technically not allowed to take place but no teacher ever actually abides by the rule because they'll be highly criticized and/or get in trouble for doing so.

Most likely they'll be from another Asian country then, so it wouldn't be a massive issue. Although in general it's a lot more common to go to Western countries for international study, and I guess it's a massive advantage when the work is much easier.
When I went back to China to visit my extended family, they still had school (probably because holiday for me and them weren’t timed together) and I remember this one time, I was about to go to bed at like 5am and she was getting ready for school. I was confused why she was getting up at 5 and she was confused why I was going to sleep at 5.

In the UAE (I am an immigrant from India btw) school starts at 7:45 (bus timings depend on where you live) we have something known as a ‘zero period’ which is basically ‘homeroom period’ in the US, this is a time for class teachers to check on the progress of their students, assemblies and announcements are also made during this period in some days as well as study sessions during exam time. Then there are 4 periods that happen continuously each for 40 minutes until break time, which is around 30 mins, students can have lunch, play outside, or just socialize and roam around the campus. Then 4 more periods go by, each for 40 mins until school is over (around 2:00 to 3:00).
In the UAE, we have a fixed timetable schedule that is constant and never changes until the start of a new term (semester). We also have half-day schedule on Fridays, meaning there are only 4 periods on that day (In Sharjah students are luckier cuz they get Friday completely off!), Saturdays and Sundays are also a part of the weekend.

In China, there are even more extreme high schools, such as mine. The school's closed management does not allow students to go out, and electronic devices are also prohibited. Carrying mobile phones will result in dismissal, and male and female students cannot sit next to each other. If students fall in love, they will also be expelled. Students live in collective dormitories. Every morning at 5:30, the bell rings and the first class starts at 5:55. At 10:30 pm, the last class ends, and you must go to bed before 11 pm. After studying continuously for three weeks, students will take a two-day break and go home to rest.

I'm from Germany and my school day starts at 8:00 am and ends at 3:20pm (4 subjects) or 1:20pm (3 subjects). That's about 6,5 hours less (on a 4 subject day) than in this video... The only difference, that even sets my school apart from a lot of other German schools is, that I have 1 subject for about 1,5 hours. For example: Math begins at 8am and ends at 9:30am. Then a 20 minute break and then a nother subject. This video makes me appreciate all the free time I have!

Furthermore, out of the 5300 universities and colleges in America, only 27 are in the top 100 universities in the world, meaning that only one out of about 183 colleges in America are in the top 100. UK on the other hand has about 130 universities, with 20 being in the top 100, meaning that out of every 6.5 universities, one is in the top 100 of the world. Another is Hong Kong, with 20 universities in total, 10 are in the top 100, meaning that 1 in every 2 universities in Hong Kong are in top 100. This proves that the general education in America is complete crap. According to research by Bloomberg, China has the potential to catch up with America in the next ten years. China also has a GDP growth of 6.6% (according to world bank), with America’s only being 2.9%, with Trump promising GDP growth of 4%, which isn’t even close to China’s GDP growth rate. A few factors for economic growth is improved technology, increased investment and increase of work force, all being factors for a country to urbanise. As things change and innovative, companies like Apple won’t be able to hold on, leaving other companies to be able to catch up.

According to your logic, Singapore should have lower scores than America, but they don’t. What logic you may ask, well Singapore has zero people that ever won a Nobel prize, and America has 368 as of 2019. This shows pretty well that your logic is outdated and isn’t true, as well as the fact that America has done such a shit job at their public education that they made it hard for themselves to improve.

Thank you for showing school in my native country. I remember going to school on Saturdays for half a day when I was in elementary school in China.
My 2 kids went/go to specialized high schools in NYC and their school schedule is almost as hectic.
They wake up around 6:00 and get to school around 8:00. They don’t come back until 6:00 and they don’t finish homework until late night, sometimes early morning.
We Chinese are the same everywhere we go when it comes to education and work ethics. Others think that is crazy. But to us it’s just the norm.
My parents worked 13 hour days, 7 days a week, for 25 years in their restaurant. Zero vacations. Zero days off. (Except for Thanksgiving Day) And we kids went right to work right after school and still had to finish all our homework while at the restaurant. That is the culture. And we will continue to preserve it.
This made me literally realize that getting up at 7:15AM and going back home at 2:25PM is nothing compared to Chinese high schools. I don't know how Chinese people can even live with that much hours of school...

When I was studying in Hong Kong, you were allowed to literally take the train to go a few stations over to the big shopping malls, you could go anywhere within the entire city as long as you made it back to school before the break was over. In my school in Australia, you can't even go to the shopping mall across the street.

My high school was 10 pm. Also, there are about 10% garbage high school has no night learning session because they do not expect their students can pass the Gaokao to get into college so they give up the night learning time. Daytime classes can already ensure they get into community college equivalency.

Even if they do absolutely nothing once they arrive home and just straight to sleep they will STILL be sleep deprived. That too, most of the stuff learned is just memorization which the students will forget once they are done studying. Pretty sad.
A lot, if not all of it probably carries forward, so I bet they don't just forget it like we do in American schools.

nah they didn’t organise themselves they were actually BEING ORGANIZED,or let’s just say they were forced to do so .As a Chinese student I can tell you that if you don’t do so you’ll get scolded by teachers or even get kicked out of school😅

@@玖穆-g6h What you're claiming now goes against most advice by successful people. They usually get 7-8 hours of sleep and have highly optimized workflows and schedules. Sleeping less than 7 hours is not optimal. I don't know where you are coming from.

As a Chinese, I believe the time in school is unforgettable. I love my classmates, my friends, my teachers. They will live in my memory forever.
But I never and ever wanna go back to the high school old days. Schools were like prison lives.

@Captain Criticizing from teachers, parents and others. Meanwhile, College entrance examination fucked us up, cuz this exam somehow decides our future in China, and it is also the reasons why students in high schools ONLY focus on study (no music, no art, no sports, no entertainment). Like schools cancelled sports classes for math classes. The most suffering time and meaningless days of my entire life. At that time, Classmates are like inmates, so we have strong friendship connections.
@Captain A mistake you made. We stayed in school 15 hours a day (7:15-22:00), 6 days a week( last year of high school is 6.5 days a week).
@Enrico yea, but rare, they hope you 100% focus on study too tho...... We spent most of time on studying and homework, no more time for anything else even hospitalization.

And I used to cry because I had to be at school at 7:30 a.m. but I got to come home by 2. Now looking back, I am grateful I got tondo 6 hrs of school then go home for the remainder of the day and not be there all day til night. Watching this made me exhausted
I am from a small city in northern China. I graduated from a high school like this six years ago. This video is very real, brings back a lot of memories, bittersweet actually. Thank you for making this video.

@@Mioumi Its not that burning in fact. Many students get lazy and sleep dirong classes. And they have fun with each other. Guess they have already used to it
idk its a long day but they get lots of breaks and chances to talk with friends, theyre allowed to leave for lunch and they get to nap. its bad but it could be worse.

Well we have don't have a cafateria so we get a 1 and a half hour break but it takes me at least half an hoir to get home, and we only have a 10 minut break throughout the whole day

The quietness in the classroom is something I wish schools had in Australia, I stayed back after school all the time to get work done. I don’t think I would want to stay as late as some of these kids do but staying to like 5:00 or later in exam prep is normal. Also being allowed to go get food from outside school is awesome. Still I don’t think I would survive one school year in china
