I like the labels. It does make the screen a bit crowded but it's much easier to identify what is what
No labels is more realistic but much harder to identify targets, especially ground targets

Tactical victory for the Russians. They beat the attack.
Strategic victory for the Pakistanis. They effectively neutralised the carrier groups strike ability.

Small problem with that: A Russian "carrier group" is more of a heavy missile cruiser group with aircraft servicing capabilities. Anything within range of those cruiser- and carrier- launched heavy missiles is still getting wrecked.
They still have cruise missiles to reck havok
Yeah even the Adm. Kuznetsov CVGN itself has some offensive missile strike power as well as much stronger self defense capabilities than US Carriers.
They were referred to has heavy missile firing aviation cruisers, because that's essentially what they are.
A Russian Carrier group definitely more or less 60%-70% of its strike power from the ships themselves.... more soon
Not to mention the SSGNs and SSNs.
They aren't the same as US carrier groups , the Russian Carrier based aircraft are more defensive focused and less strike capable... the ships have significant strike power.
Just a different way of thinking.

Yes the ships still have offensive capability, but at the end of this simulation they are pretty defenseless. No air cover to speak of, and most of their defensive armaments exhausted. Tactically they would have no choice to withdraw, as a second wave of aircraft could do serious damage to the group. Yes they could launch at the Pakistani homeland, but if the Pakistanis were smart they would have a second wave inbound. They do have enough aircraft to do this, and they would effectlively enjoy complete air superiority. The Russians would know that this would be a distinct possibility and already be turning to escape. They only have 1 carrier, and would be keen to keep it afloat.
What if you guys did a slightly different carrier group fight: a US carrier group vs a Russian ground-based defense system? The US would get all its Hornets, mixed for CAP, SEAD, and bombing missions vs a SAM net and a wing of MiG-29s and Flankers ready to fight, with a set of bombing objectives for the US to complete. We've done a lot of attacking carriers, but we've yet to see the striking power of a carrier group.
Edit: a perfect objective is Russian anti-ship installations, as a simulation of prepping for an amphibious invasion. So the carrier group's job would be to take out the anti-ship missiles, with other hostiles being secondary objectives.
Yea I really like this idea. Would love to see the striking capability of the carrier group.
If you're really going to do that, I would suggest mixing the High Digit SAMs mod with the vanilla SAMs

Edit: If Cap will read it -- please consider that coastal defenses and other such installations are probably subjects to protection of the territorial Air-Defense Forces, i.e. S-300, Tunguskas, and Iglas + MiG-31/Su-27. Russian Army Air-Defense Forces are charged with protecting the ground forces, and would probably consist of S-300 (no V variant in DCS so P variant), Buk, Tor, Shilka, Strela-10 and Igla, with less cooperative support of Russian AF in form of MiG-29 and Su-27.

It is really just absurd how much firepower (offensive and defensive) the Kuznetsov has. Over 200 SAMs, 6-AK-630s, 8-Kashtans, and 12 Shipwrecks. Its a friggin beast. Too bad it is so unreliable.

that's part of the reason why it's so unreliable, cramming that many weapon systems into one ship gets really difficult to repair really quickly

Russian surface ships are designed to be overpowered in order to compete with NATO air power. NATO surface ships are designed to be cheaper and less capable in a gunfight to support that air power. Hence why RUS stronk.

Considering the fleet has stopped twice that many harpoons from different angles, yeah I think it could.
Since the PAF has enough JF-17's, try the same attack, but with two waves of JF's.

Take these Pakistani aircraft with mix of Indian aircraft (Su 30, M-2000 and a whole lots of Mig 21s) against Russian fleet. Everyone knows these two nations are against each other but "what if" they join their hands together. It'll be fun experiment :D

Coming from F4 BMS with about 3000 hours in all variations of Falcon 4 since 1999, it WARMS my heart to see the F-16 Caps have 3 fuelt tanks and an all Slammers loadout, and then hammering it in at angels +35. You have the fuel up there! :) Use it! And sending 1 or 2 guys in front to wreak havock, is a great tactick. But - dont get dragged in that's bad ;) Love your vids!

Keeping the labels on is definitely helpful, helps focus more on the action rather than keeping track of what is where on the map. Knowing which aircraft and missile is what in such a hodgepodge is equally nice.
I'm really waiting for the developers to update Russian warships, gunships, weapons and equipment based on what they have today.

@Grim Reapers Request- Two Iranian Gunboat Fleets, Thirty Silkworms, Two UH-1 Hueys (protecting The Silkworms), and Eight Iranian F-14A Tomcats Flying in Two formations of Four! In Each Fligh of Four, Three F-14's will be air to air protecting the Gunboats and One from each flight will be anti ship!!👍
For The U.S. Carrier Group can you please give them a few F-35's PLUS F-18's On The Same Carrier and The additional F-16's you included in last Gunboat Vid Replaced With A-10 Thunderbolts! Additionally Two Cobra Attack Helicopters taking off from The Carrier if possible👍

Seeing as they were off the coast of Pakistan there should be some Pakistan Naval units. They use varianta of Chinese ship so you could put the type 054a and 53
They have two ex-british destroyers so you could use some cold war era ships to fill in for them

In reality, if the Russian navi is in Indian Ocean, you can bet that the Indian assets are tagging along as well. Also, the Indian western border front will go hot and it wil be very difficult time for Pakistan.

@@grimreapers They should also improve the AEGIS, to make it more realistic. I kinda get why you say many Americans are upset. Right now each ship acting on its own, which makes group defense against massive missile attack very inefficient and wasteful. ED should program the naval group AI logic what acts as one entity, distributing targets amongst the AEGIS capable ships. Soviet ships also have their combat management systems, but in their case its less critical, since they have more independent layers and varieties of air-defense systems onboard. In reality I would expect that at least 40 heavy supersonic missiles like P-700 would have been needed to disable a carrier group in the 80's, and since then US navy air defense capabilities only got better.

Very impressive fighting by the Russians...and they would have done even better if they'd already had birds in the air, which would make sense especially since they are the aggressors in this scenario.

So in my free time I Try to mod navy ships for DCS because this game despite being air SIM can make make some of the best naval cinematic scenes and its to the point that you can almost make an whole mini movie well at least I try to mod it in my free time but its really hard even when I get free time because of my piss poor attention span but I can easily say that the hardest part for me at least is the 3D modeling and trying to get it to look like the models in the base platform of DCS and that's not even adding in the hell of trying to get the color scem right the hardest parti think I have ever had was when I was trying to get the model right for navy gunners for the cals this was made so hard because each 50 and 30 cal. Each had to have a team of three a gunner a loader and a ammo runner the gunners model would fire until the run out of ammo the would open the gun the loader would take a new belt from a ammo can and replace the ammo then shut the gun then the gunner you pull back the charging handle back three times but the problem came in when I added the ammo runners to fix a problem that happen when the ammo cans ran out so I added another modle to grab a new ammo can from inside the ship let's just say that pathing issue give me hell for 3 months but I am currently working on a fire nation warship from avatar the last Air bender the show not the movie when I complete that I might work on a Pakistan warship
Hey Cap it would be nice to have these kind of naval attacks simulated on real life plots for eg. 1971 Indo-Pak War attack against Indian Aircraft Carrier, Falklands War attack against British carrier of that era, Vietnam War era attack by VPAF against US carrier.

I was the only one who noticed that now the s-300f uses different types of missiles, Peter the Great used 48n6, while Slava fired 5v55 missiles?
Cap, you mentioned that the Russian Navy hasn't got a fox 3 capacity on the Kuznetsov air wing. In Syria the air wing was made of 18 × Su-33 and 6 × MiG-29K. Well apparently there is a workaround. You could have six MiG-29S with 6 R-77s (each) starting the mission already in the air. There is also a Navy skin available for them to make them look more realistic and immersive. I think this will provide quite an interesting dynamic to the simulation.

Sir, can you play a group of Tu-22M3M maritime attack bombers armed with the FULL Kh-35 missile combat payload -18- I think in total against anyone's Naval carrier group and why aren't the Su-33's don't use their weapons accordingly?
Btw Indian Mig-27 action against Pakistan is also quite relaxing because Indian Airforce had the real -not downgrade- version Mig-27Flogger D, like East Germany!
Tu-22 can only carry Kh-22 in game. I think that's the correct missile name.

One constructive criticism.. The Kirov class wouldn't likely be out ahead, not as the flagship of the fleet and given it is the backbone of the strike group.
More likely the frigates would be pickets and the Slava classes would take flanking positions.
Kirov would probably hold station more in the middle and screen the carrier, but in turn also be screened as a high value target.

You could have had someone spawning in the aircrafts in the Russian sides too.......

Pretty sure the Russian aircraft would need to aerial refuel soon after launch in order to take off with ordinance. I believe US Navy counts on that fact should we surprise attack their carrier group.

Judging from recent similar events I’m REALLY surprised 😮 that CAP would think this would be a walkover? A mere 40 missiles, from 1 shot aircraft n how many of them (the F16s now) could keep at bay a constantly respawning of the carrier the 24 SUs off the carrier to meet them PLUS they have an AWACS,! SMH 🤦♂️ CAP, especially the fact of the very recent carrier wars u should of been well aware that that barrage of missiles would be easy pray for the SM2s etc.

I would request a indian air force strike package. 20 su-30mki with 3 supersonic anti ship missiles each, 10 mirages with the latest mica em missiles and 20 Rafale f3r with long range meteor missiles and mica ir missiles vs a chinese carrier group.

it seems throughout several of these battles that it would be better a far better strategy to send in hundreds of lower cost drones in front of the fighter squadrons. take away the grumbles and then go in. also, gotta get closer, limit that missile response time. lastly instead of six squadrons from one direction, two squadrons from three directions and why do they never go after the awacs?
The Rusian fleet is near the coast of Pakistan because the is a war between India and Pakistan and TE russians are full aliades of the Indians so you know how this work

I think---people, tell me if I'm wrong---in the middle of a melee like this, you'd be afraid to fire Fox-3 type missiles, such as the AIM-120, for fear of shooting your own aircraft down by accident.

The Royal Navy are eyeballing the Naval Strike missile, RBS 15 mark 4, An Israeli Missile and Raytheons Long Rang Anti ship missile to replace their old Harpoons for an interim period. Naval Strike Missile is the Cheapest hint hint

You should have comserved your fighters and let Russian air defense exhaust or thin down those F-16s. Conserve your fighter/bombers for late game.

The thing is PAF is not alone on the naval front as Mirage 3 and 5 are also for Naval role. They are armed with exoset missiles. Flying at 50 feet over the deck.
29:13 now if US CSG can launch other missiles like Sea Sparrow, RIM-116, RIM-162 might have a better chance to intercept AShM from previous sims

Labels on. A more realistic scenario would be India v. Pakistan. JF's, F16 Fox 1 v. Su, Mig 29 carrier variants and Rafales
Sukhois doesn't have carrier variants mate. India doesn't have Rafale Ms and Indian MiG-29Ks are armed with Fox 2s and Fox 3s. Alamos are only used by the Indian Air Force.

What computer should I buy to set up missions like this in DCS? What version of DCS should I buy? Do you have a referral code?
DCS is free, with aircraft bought as modules individually. You get the su25t for free. Make sure you get 32 GB of ram.

In reality even us carrier group has no chance, they did naval exercises with Pakistan in real time and carrier were destroyed in every scenario, with out JF 17 or F- 16

The problem is DCS does not track missile expenditures across scenarios. Those ships would have to return to port to rearm, but they'll be far more defenseless if a second attack is launched before then.

I'm not familiar with DCS server, but does it have an "attach to" command like in Arma? If so you could use that to attach your mascot to the gunboat so she doesn't immediately sink.

Why is it bad going up if the missile isn´t burning anymore? Its the fastest way to bleed its energy, isnt it?
Because the air is thinner the higher you go, which reduces drag. Apparently, the airspeed lost to gravity is offset by the reduced drag. Seem counter-intuitive, but I've heard actual fighter pilots say the same thing.
Air breathing engines get weaker and weaker as they go up. A missile, even without power, improves as the drag gets less higher up.
@@grimreapers Fighter engines are optimized for different altitudes, usually not for 0 altitude. I would assume something like MiG-29 or MiG-31 will be much more energetic at higher altitude than near ground.
@@grimreapers Yes, but only as long as they are burning? The missile has then to fight gravity without any acceleration - so the thinner air shouldn´t be any adventage?
I mean driving a car without an engine downhill will make it faster as driving it uphill?
More so, when you drive to cars uphill - one on full power the other on idle.
Maybe its worth a test?
@@Teknophreak I think it depends on the initial airspeed of the missile (M) in comparison to the plane (P). If M is at 2000 knots it will be hard to outrun. But if the speeds nearly match I could imagine that a plane in AB pulling up 30°+ up would burn a lot of energy off the missile?
Cap could you make a video on how to add mods to a server? I can’t find anything out there that explains how to do that. Me and my friend would like to dog fight each other in F-22’s, and other mod planes.
