@@trolleriffic Real shit, I would love to see a modernized _Iowa_ class BB represented in one of these videos. The U.S. Navy had them operational as recently as the 1990s, with _Wisconsin_ and _Missouri_ bombarding shore targets in Desert Storm with 16" rifles and Tomahawk cruise missiles.

@@grimreapers some cool naval battles here, ww2 battleships are mean, Star destroyer was funny, but I think that only one space ship from the Expanse would kill this carrier group very quickly, those ships have realistic future advanced "CIWS" i.e. PDCs and missiles, only one MCRN cruiser would defeat them easily🤣

I could enjoy DCS for hundreds of hours without even jumping into a cockpit. So much you can do with this. I'd love to see modern armor vs WW2 armor via Combined Arms.

Most definitly not. However... it would be tremendous fun to watch!
Well. Depends. Does the group of aircraft include the TU-22 backfires? If it does, there Kh-22’s might prove to be a challenge. I think a single TU-22 can carry three Kh-22’s. Other than that, there are other weapons, even the harpoons as shown in this video, can be effective if there’s enough going towards the carrier group at a time.
f35s with the long range s4 missiles could do some damage. f18s with harpoons could wreak havoc

I have an idea. Can a really big WW1 fleet stand up to a carrier group?
Short answer: No.
Long answer: No, because even a semi-modern carrier group could outrange a WW1 fleet by using hypersonic jets and antiship missiles, which the WW1 fleet would be literally incapable of defending against. And, even if the carrier group ran out of missiles before it killed the WW1 fleet, the carrier group would still have the advantage with its guns being able to accurately place fire from beyond the horizon, something that WW1 ships would never consider possible. After all, the first naval engagement where ships fired from beyond the horizon didnt happen until a few years into WW2, and even then those shots weren’t very accurate. The battle would end with the WW1 fleet utterly decimated by superior weaponry. Meanwhile, only 1-2 ships from the carrier group would be damaged at worst, and no damage to any of the carrier group at best.

Hey Cap, how about adding many large commercial ships and trying a low level fast attack, with a few of the beautiful Reapers, to move from cover to cover until within strike range?
if 2 planes fly in a really tight formation, and one deploys flares, could said flare potentially damage the other aircraft?

Is just Red vs Blue U.S. Navy version fun to try with similar forces. So there are problems with the AI handling similar opposing forces for sure. The only decent part was the dogfights by the fighters mostly.

Needs to be run again with maybe a few changes. Too many glitches that made it unfair. ESPECIALLY the carrier going off alone.
Maybe you could try WW2 boat kamikazes like the Japanese did against allied ship. And just to be clear I don’t mean kamikaze using planes I mean using boats.

I wounder if the aircraft loadout would make the bigger difference... if the Rogue group are more intent on sinking ships they'd use more ATG firepower, but a defense reaction to aircraft incoming is more likely to be ATA than ATG isn't it?

I've been doing my own experiments with the WWII battleships vs USN carrier group. I've weeded out the ships that don't work, but have found that the Harpoon missiles have a very high miss rate against them. I'm going to continue to experiment with official vessels to see if this holds for them as well. I set my fleets two hundred miles apart, and allowed two 24xF-18x4-Harpoons each to attack. 192 Harpoons should be massive overkill, but they miss their targets too much. The WWII ships detection is far too good, and their defense is massively too effective. They should barely detect the missiles until near impact, and shouldn't be able to direct aimed fire at them.
use a lot of tomcats with phoenix missiles vs a lot of harpoon missiles.

Cap did you say there's a problem with the f14 and the sim crashing atm? I have had the same issue since heatblur did their update a short bit ago so it's not just me?

As much as I appreciate the carrier series, I'm afraid I must insist you implement a notification15 minutes prior to publishing so that I may brew a pot of tea, fetch some digestives and don proper carrier sinking watching attire.
Do VLS's really refill in DCS? In reality they don't (until port) the VLS is the magazine. Harpoons can be fired in different modes in real life - you can fire them on a bearing with an an activation distance so they wont turn on their radar until a certain distance and then they'll home on the first thing they see after that - there's also some signal processing to try and avoid chaff etc. I'm not sure if Harpoons have datalinks to coordinate if multiple are in the air at once (some missiles can do this), similarly some missles can have their courses corrected by command mid flight but again not sure if Harpoon has this. Did Simba crash into the Burke or launch harpoons? Was it friendly harpoons hitting the blue ships early?
