Actually base on Russia's Soviet design ship, if you take a look on it's shape. All it's attack king power is placed in the front and defense in the back. That's because they're strategy is not to go tow to tow with the massive US and NATO navies. They are desinged to discharge their payload unto US and NATO ships, turn away and then go back to port. Rearm and repeat. I mean look at Kirov. It's Granit is on it's front and it's dual purpose main gun is on it's back.
I know the Chinese Carrier had its anti-ship missiles removed to make space for more Aircraft and I think I remember, that the Russians wanted to do the same with the Admiral Kuznetsov when it entered its ill-fated refit. Also: Russia has "only" two of the 4 Kirov-Class Battle-cruisers left: 'Peter the Great' that's in active service and the 'Admiral Nakhimov' that's currently undergoing a massive modernization program, expected to last until 2023. Finally: The Chinese have supersonic anti-ship missiles irl, so it's kinda 'meh' they only have the Harpoon-clones in DCS.

There is a reason China bought four Sovremenniy class Destroyers, equipped with Moskit AShMs. And I'm pretty sure it isn't the Sovremenniy class Destroyers.
@@Struktualnyj They bought them because Chinese ships at the time were only armed with short-range SAMs on their ships, meaning they had zero ability to provide area air defense. The Pr. 956s carried naval Buks, making them the first and only PLAN ships at the time capable of medium-range air defense. They didn't buy them for the anti-ship missiles.
@@Phunny If we are talking capabilities Chinese Navy lacked, I would place supersonic AShM higher on the list than midrange air-defense system. YJ-12, which is (I think) pretty much Chinese improved version of the Moskit, now have a ship, land and air launched variants. The Chinese Navy's Buk analogue is the HQ-16, which was developed with Russian assistance. I assume no Russian assistance was provided in development of Chinese supersonic anti-ship missiles. And buying whole systems just to get access to some key technologies is something China did quite a lot. So, I don't deny the pr. 956 acquisition had more goals then just one, but I do believe the procurement of the Moskit AShM with its systems was the main one. And the destroyer itself was an ugly duck (though I personally like its cold war looks very much), with its overpowered 2x2x130 mm guns, problems with powerplant design, relatively weak air-defense, and, if I'm not mistaken, less than optimal ASW capabilities. -As a concept, Sovremenniy class was designed to stalk and gun down CVBG at relatively close ranges, which is quite "unique" (or one may also say silly) of a purpose, and surely the one that wasn't desired by the Chinese Navy of 90's.-
@@Struktualnyj This isn't about your list. This is about why the Chinese government actually bought the Pr. 956 destroyers. The reasoning behind this, purchases made after the Third Taiwan Strait Crisis, and subsequent naval and naval aviation developments are all well-documented in works from retired PLAN admirals. If you can read Chinese, it's something I would suggest you check out. China didn't widely implement supersonic ASMs onto warships until nearly twenty years after the acquisition of the destroyers as part of the ongoing PLA forces-wide modernization program. The YJ-12 was not developed from the Moskit. It's a ship-launched version of the YJ-91 which was reverse-engineered from the air-launched Kh-31P ARMs that China bought from Russia (of which the PLAAF and the PLANAF still carry on their J-15, Su-30MKK, and JH-7 aircraft to this day). The importance of the Buk over just about everything else is also reinforced by the fact that the interim Type 052B, the first subclass of DDG made after the acquisition of the Pr. 956 destroyers, was equipped with the 3S90M Shtil-1 + 9M317ME single-arm launcher combo while retaining subsonic Chinese ASMs. The interim Type 052B that came after the 051B carried subsonic anti-ship missiles as did the Type 052C that came after the 051C.
@@Phunny If you are saying there are official internal documents which explicitly state that the reason for the purchase of the "project 956" was their Anti-air capabilities, then I have no reason to argue otherwise. On the other hand, if this wasn't stated explicitly, but only an interpretation, or if this information was intended for public, then we can continue this discussion for a long time. I, personally, will hold to my opinion (and it is just an opinion, nothing more) until I could see some proof of the contrary. Regarding the Kh-31 etc. -- according to Russian publications, Russia sold China licenses for Kh-31 (also finished products of P and A variants), 3M-54E "Kalibr" (also finished products as part of the "Kilo" deal, I believe), as well as "Shtil-1" (the VLS variant of Shtil). So there was no need for reverse-engineering whose systems. But no license for 3M80 "Moskit". Therefore, if China want's to reverse-engineer something, it would probably be Moskit. And it's plausible they'll say their new missiles are based on the licensed Kh-31s and not reverse-engineered (against the terms of EULA) 3M80s -- that's just being polite.
*Idea/Valued viewer request* Since some of my fellow Americans are fed up with the American carrier being attacked, you could revisit whatever scenarios of this series you like, but out in the open ocean where the CSG can operate to its fullest extent in full battle spread, giving it a more likely chance at victory. If you don’t think that will make a difference, feel free to ignore this comment
Oscar 2 submarine has 24 p700 granit, it would be interesting to see SSGNs added to the game, then subs could participate. The improvements to the Soviet missiles looked so cool in this video!
Well, I’m American, with 11 years with the Navy, and I don’t mind the attacks on the CVNs. The only problems I have really (now that the FFGs are no longer used) are with DCS itself, not Cap or the GRs. A CVN carries 65-70 aircraft, but (I guess?) DCS only allows half that. Doubling the aircraft to engage the enemy would make a big difference. There’s the peculiar reticence of the AI to launch AMRAAMs, and sometimes Harpoons, with the Hornets. The only other thing is the way the 688s (or possibly 774s?) can only be used a surface vessels, missile fodder, or decoration. Oh well.
The mighty Kirov class has actually has two ships that might live on. One is in service right now and the other is maybe perhaps almost refitted and modernized. Amazing ships.
I work with a really cool guy who is a retired crewchief from the bulgarian airforce, he spent 10 years working on the mig 21, and 15 years working on the mig 29, and last night during a lull in orders, he was showing me footage he actually took during his time in the air force of a mig 29 startup, and one thing that he said that surprised me, is that the main inlet covers that are closed on the ground on startup is NOT just to stop FOD, they only open back up above 20kmh when taxiing, as a safety measure for ground crews
Best thing about Cap and the GR is that they're knowledgeable but not stuck up. Always ready to admit when he/they don't know something and ask for info.
Wait, why does it seem like the Americans are always complaining about everything in your comment section? "Wahh we lose too often, wahh the fight was unfair, wahh this and that is not modelled right, wahh it's always a US carrier group, wahh wahh wahh" lol... I say just ignore them and do what you like. :)
Considering your comments about Kirov class: 2 will be operational after modernisation, 2 will be decomissioned. In process of modernisation: their strike potential will rise 4 times: from 20 to 80 missiles. They will also have improved AA-systems. The Moskva-type are operational and will be used till the mid 30-s. Kuznetsov will be also modernised: they will replace the engine turbines with new variant, will remove all strike weapons which will allow to store 5 more mig-29k in hangar, add new AA-systems, etc. It is just a part of soviet era ships, which will be modernised, while Russia is currently building many new modern ships. It's sad they are not in DCS.
Really needs a talented mod maker to produce the Sovremney and Udaloys. I think they probably fall under the Russian embargo on realistic models which is why DCS haven't added them?
In reality China has the second biggest carrier fleet, including CV carriers in service with the 4th being built, as well as 3 LSH helicopter/VSTOL carriers in service or undergoing sea trials. So China has 7 flat tops that are very modern, 7 carriers means that China now has the second biggest carrier fleet (the USN has 10 x CV carriers and 11 x LSH helicopter carriers). Type 001/002 CV = 1050' 70,000 tons. Type 003 CV = 1000'+ 80,000 tons. Type 075 LSH = 830' 45,000 tons.
11:30 China: "Abandon ship!" The hits just keep on coming. LOL A couple cruise with only 4 ships does not a World-class Navy make. Russians know where to hit the Chinese carriers to sink it.
Why are you reporting grossly wrong infos? Pyotr Velikiy (Kirov-class) is in active service and modernized Admiral Nakhimov will join in the future, 3 Slava Class are in active service as well, they are not rusting in a dry dock, you are doing DCS every day, I don't understand how is possible to have such a lack of basic and open source knowledge about few major Russian ships.
I wanna see what missile ship has the fastest rate if fire. My favorite thing is seeing the missiles launch from the ships... Just over and over. Love it!
And that's without the teaming behavior where all but 1 fly low and elect a sucker/"leader" to go high and active to guide the rest via Datalinking .... Now imagine how smart the P800 and newer missiles are. Its not about where they are from, they make some bloody clever, very impressive military tech.
@@martinpalmer6203 Some people closely acquainted with the Soviet Navy said (unofficially) that there is no such thing as one missile is flying higher to provide targeting data for the group, while others are hiding beneath the radar horizon. In reality, all of them are flying as low as possible to delay detection and not to alert the CVBG for as long as possible. They rely on external targeting data, such as over-the-horizon radars or reconnaissance satellites etc., and they also spread in a thin long line so as not to miss the battle group (since targeting info may be outdated or not very precise). As soon as one of the missiles of the group detects the CVBG, it shares its data with the rest of the group, and they attack simultaneously, prioritizing the CVN itself and the most critical ships, and distributing the targets among themselves. They also use different techniques to make their intercept as hard as possible, and their hits as destructive as possible. This information is still considered to be secret in Russia (those systems are still operational), but since it has already leaked, and in any case NATO knows it all in much more details, you are welcome 😀

Cap, when you say that Peter the Great is a legacy battlecruiser and probably won't sail again, there is a second one of that class being upgraded with a modern systems and weapons. These two ships of the Kirov class are expected to serve in the Russian Navy for a long time, especially since nothing comparable will be built by Russians in the near future, and they really don't want to lose these unique assets.
This was fun, pity neither carrier group tried to sail around the island to flank the other but you can't expect much from A.I. Would have been good to watch the missiles striking the ships too but you would need multiple real time viewpoints, maybe some day.
One massive problem ive spotted here, Liaoning dosent have its ASM, they removed them when the ship came to China, so this is not realistic, at least that part isnt.
Yes that was a very interesting fight, I like how russia does what russia does to china. Send everything. I would like to see a rematch between us and Russian carriers. Sorry Americans. Is a carrier fleet battled with 2 cv vs 2 cv ever possible? Or will that just brake the game.
It's unnecessary IRL because a proper supercarrier would piss all over any three smaller carriers (like, say, a _Kuznetsov)_ since an American CVN has as many planes as the average national air force. A 1 V 2 is very likely when you're dealing with China, but Russia only has the _Admiral Kuznetsov._ The Chinese actually own ex-_Minsk,_ she was their first CV. For DCS purposes, who knows? Only one way to find out.
hopefully soon DCS will update its inventory of ships or modders can create a more modern inventory of the navies. Would like to see you do a battle with a french carrier group in the near future. Keep up the good work
Oh your prediction sucks. Just by simply based by when the ships were made. Those Soviet designed ship are designed to overwhelm the US navy's defense. And at the same designed to repel overwhelming air attacks from the Americans.
Can DCS handle larger carrier groups? For instance can we see what it would take to kil 2 carriers and 12 or 15 escort ships? Id love to see a rematch of the USCG vs the Chines air force but with a double wide carrier group. For example: if CSG 10 and CSG 12 were moving through the straight together ( CSG consists of CVN-77, CVN-78, and 14 to 18 escort ships), could the huge arsenal of Chines aircraft take down such a powerful navel fleet?
They are not aircraft carriers technically..... USSR considers them to be Heavy Aircraft Cruisers, so your vid title is technically wrong..... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuznetsov-class_aircraft_carrier The PRC, however has an aircraft carrier coming up en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Type_003_aircraft_carrier
Requesting you to simulate Indian carrier group consisting of INS Vikramaditya, Mig29K fighters, Kolkata class destroyers, and Talwar class frigates with supersonic Brahmos anti-ship missiles, Barak-8 SAM, Ak-603 CIWS Vs Chinese carrier group with Type 52D destroyers
well DCS doesnt really simulate the ECM and chaff for ships older missile means dumber and longer to develop ECM and other jamming and spoofing. Plus where did those AWAC's take off from? no AWAC no data link. but this is a flight sim not a naval sim.
@@calmterror dcs doesn't modelate intelligence of misiles, becase I don't see mislles changing trayectories, also one high and the rest being low while are reviving orders of the one is high, also being ramjet misiles can acalerate or decelerate. Would have been fun to some of the Russian planes be naval Su-25s like the Su-25UTG or Su-25UBP, either configured for ground attack, or for naval strike such as carrying anti-ship missiles. Subsonic but armored and significantly smaller.
2022 here. When you said "the leader of the Russians, Cortana" I thought, shit, the Russian Special Military Operation would have reached Paris by now if she were in command.

Russia and China are no aliades only Business partners So if a Russian carrier group and a Chinese one aliade between the two, that means that someone have declared war to the two
Since China wants to expand, how well can some of the smaller nation do with their "smaller carriers" such as Thai navy, the Chakri Naruebet. You can use just limit the number of aircraft for the carrier. I think the Philippines can covert their "RoRO" Ship manufacturing to carrier operations with sea harriers (3 or 4). South Korea carrier development would be interesting since they have F22 knockoff with KF-21 Boramae.

I know the Chinese Carrier had its anti-ship missiles removed to make space for more Aircraft
and I think I remember, that the Russians wanted to do the same with the Admiral Kuznetsov when
it entered its ill-fated refit.
Also: Russia has "only" two of the 4 Kirov-Class Battle-cruisers left: 'Peter the Great' that's in active service
and the 'Admiral Nakhimov' that's currently undergoing a massive modernization program, expected to last until 2023.
Finally: The Chinese have supersonic anti-ship missiles irl, so it's kinda 'meh' they only
have the Harpoon-clones in DCS.

Someone needs to fix the Kashtan in this DCS to fire missiles each Kashtan has 8 missiles 4 by 4 and capacity to reload 32 or 48 SAMs per Kashtan.
I laughed at your predictions of how the chinese would win the naval part. Can't deny the russian AShM xD

Since some of my fellow Americans are fed up with the American carrier being attacked, you could revisit whatever scenarios of this series you like, but out in the open ocean where the CSG can operate to its fullest extent in full battle spread, giving it a more likely chance at victory.
If you don’t think that will make a difference, feel free to ignore this comment
cpy
Yes, they do have Shipwrecks... and they're not acting correctly in DCS.
Oh well.
Well there is a lack of US subs in the game too.
So for the subs, Cap used the Russian Kilo class as a standin in a few matches too :D
@@CMDRSweeper I saw him use the sub, basically, as a surface missile platform once. That’s the only reason I know it can be done.
Hope this series goes until April 1st next year so we can finally have a server-crashing Russian vs Chinese vs US vs British CG free-for-all!
The mighty Kirov class has actually has two ships that might live on. One is in service right now and the other is maybe perhaps almost refitted and modernized. Amazing ships.
The reason the Russian jets were being pumped out so much faster is simple.. In Russia there are no safety rules

Cap, your enthusiasm is wonderful. Thank you for these videos!

And IRL the idea is to send out the ASMs from max range and then turn around, limiting casualties
I was suggesting 2 potential future battles, 1: us cg vs Russian cg rematch and/or a 2v2 of carriers.
hopefully soon DCS will update its inventory of ships or modders can create a more modern inventory of the navies.
Can certainly try.
