Uncle Seiko makes a great (better than the original) accurate version of the classic Seiko GL831 strap the original Arnie and other old Seikos came with (looks just like your strap), in short and regular lengths. Definitely worth checking out.
I love this watch. Put it on a much improved Uncle Seiko strap and it is a great choice when I don’t want to risk damaging my Submariner. Large but not ridiculous on my 7 inch wrist for using as a true sports watch.
I placed this watch on a black NATO from WCWC. This has helped the watch fit under a shirt due to the thinness of the NATO and also gets rid of the overhang problem.
Seiko made the first batch of Solar Tunas in 47mm...then a couple years later made them in 42mm. Sooo, it's not unrealistic to see a 42mm Arnie in the future! Me personally? I love size of the reissue...I have the original also and prefer the larger reissue, especially being thicker. Great review. Cheers.
Man, I really love how this watch looks, but you're right. If it was 2-3mm shorter lug-to-lug, 2-3mm smaller in diameter, and 2mm thinner, I'd buy this instantly. (Essentially if it was sized a little closer to the Turtle/SKX)
I recently purchased a SafArnie SNJ031? in green. I love the watch. It's also a strap monster and I love to strap swap it with something like a paratrooper band or even canvas. I was considering getting this version you reviewed and putting it on a bracelet but I like the little bits of color on the SafArnies that just pop. I do have some knocks: - I wish the Illuminator lit up the whole watch face, not just the LCD. - When you put it in day/date on mode on the display. It just looks off (it's not centered) and it's empty. I think they should have displayed the day OR date in words or added the year to the display to fill it up and feel warranted. I sometimes leave the LCD displaying the time because it's more aesthetically pleasing but not at all practical. - I got an off-centered bezel. It's not really bad but I got struck by the Seiko bezel curse. Ugh. I got it for half price new though so I'm letting it go. The digital Tuna came out in 78 when I was born so I wanted a version because of that but I didn't want a beat-up one from 78 or an overprice unneeded 1000m digital Tuna. I like to be somewhat practical with my money. My fav features are: - It looks cool AF and it's a great tool watch. - It's solar. - The pushers show orange when they are unscrewed so you know the button are open. Why do you need screw-down pushers in a world where Casio and other brands have offered pusher buttons on 200m WR watches? It is confusing but at least it looks cool and is a nice clear indicator you left them open. Unlike the black indicators of this version, you reviewed.
Been wearing a Seiko blk monster since 2002. Just purchased this on eBay for $329. My monster still looks and works great but I had to have the new Arnie.
Great video as usual and your opening statement about Seiko's recent weird decisions is spot on. I got the SNJ028 first and I liked it so much I got the 025 as well. They are great watches on their own, despite the minor flaws you mentioned (which I agree with), and the Commando/Predator association only made them even cooler in my book.
I really like the size of this new version. So Seiko if you're watching, please keep its size. Overall I like this watch. I just wonder how long it takes before the (secondary) battery starts to degrade.
I will strongly agree with the idea that this was done well by Seiko. Thankfully, it doesn't cost a proverbial arm and a leg. Maybe they can keep building on this tactic just like they did with the Turtle. Good stuff. --Michael
Got mine today from Seiya Japan. Love it. The only sook I will have is I wish the lume was as good as my SBBN035. A minor thing that I'm sure I''ll get over :-)
Hi,great review.seiko did not release this particular model in India for reasons unknown.so I bought the pepsi variant of this, which was officially released in India(which fool decides all these releases).
Nice review man it definitely is an intriguing watch but I get what you're saying about not running out and getting one on one and I think I could enjoy it but on the other hand am I going to put down my other watches I just don't know yet thanks and I'll be waiting on the next one
I like the original Arnie better. Too bad I did not know anything about watches back then when it was made. It is interesting but really a large chunky watch and I don't care for large watches. As you mentioned it has been a while since Seiko made something that is interesting in a long time.
This is a great watch for some watersports or desk diving. An urban Hollywood treasure. This is not a field watch for anyone who does safety intensive activities. It's a bulky snag monster. Military, SAR, Fire, climbing, rigging, and technical diving will never strap such a grappling hook on their wrist. It's dangerous in real-world work scenarios. Any technical working professional with a safety-first attitude will not wear this on the job. Cheers.
I love big watches so his 'complaint' is just that...HIS. This watch is supposed to be big and in your face. Its a 'Arnie' so it should be big and in your face. The original was big for its time and now would be too small if they kept it the same dimensions. I love this watch!
I think the worst part about these watches is the fact that they're a Prospex model that's made in China. No shade on China but a watch like this deserves to be made in Japan. Just my two cents.
I love the watch, but that price definitely has a little bit of a steep nostalgia tax added. Love the seconds hand hit the markers almost perfectly. I too think it could be a slightly small in diameter. I would like to know what is your opinion about the new generation of Alpinist 2020. Nice video 👍
You can easily find these watches for around $350 now, which I think is a bargain. Just went out and checked and first thing that popped up was Macy’s selling both this one and the PADI version for $354.
I love the watch. I just disagree with him when he says it's robust. To me it has a plastic feel to it. I also find that the minute hand is too far away from the bezel. When you use it you have draw an imaginary line from the minute hand to the bezel if you really need accuracy.
My diving days are over, but an excuse to have too long a strap to fit over a wetsuit, especially a thick wetsuit on an ISO dive watch? Mmm, one man's excuse is another's extremely valid reason. Nothing worse than having a strap too short on a dive watch after donning a wetsuit, just sayin. Great review btw!
Hi. Great channel and subscribed for a good while. I loved this watch but I viewed a UA-cam video called ' Don't buy the new Seiko Arnie SNJ 025'. Apparently the LCD display will fade and must be replaced after 7 years for a fee. This stopped me purchasing it as I've got watches with working LCD displays from the 1970's. I'd be interested on your views about this. Keep up the great content!
Firstly, thank you for clearing that up. Secondly, don't lecture me about spreading misinformation... I explained where I got the information from and asked for views on it. I never said I agreed with the information. I wanted to purchase the watch but was rightly concerned when I saw the video. My intention was to illicit more information about the veracity of the claims contained in the negative video. Your detailed reply has countered that, so once again thanks very much.
You did sort of insinuate that it must be replaced after 7 years. I can't worry about a watch seven years down the line. I have one and absolutely love it!
@@watchdogpodcast239 If saying that I watched a negative video and asking for an opinion on it, is an insinuation, I apologise. I thought by using the word, 'apparently', it indicated my doubts. I'm glad you're enjoying your watch.
I completely agree, the new Arnie is pretty much awesome, but at 48mm it is simply too large. If they made it in a 42-44mm range, it would be my easy pick for a weekend watch. Anyway, another great review and keep on with a good stuff!
You keep going on about it's size and don't actually say much about the watch itself. I'll do the review for you. It's not that big at all. The dial looks like it's been squashed at the top end by a tiny digital display which is hard to see anything on it anyway. All seiko dials seem a litle squashy. One day they will learn to design a dial like Oris perhaps. The watch however is comfortable and you can always cut the strap if necessary unless you're going diving for real in a wet suit which 1 % of buyers will. The solar is great and reliable but the price is a little hefty because you should know that if you don't like it you can't give it away on the pre owned market. But if it is too big then look at the padi solar tuna. Maybe more suitable. Thanks for watching. Cheers
Thanks to Mimo's Jewelery for loaning the watch for a review video. Please visit their website: mimosjewelry.com - Use Discount Codes seik25 for a 25% discount on the SNJ025 or seik35 for 35% discount on all other Seiko watches.
There is plenty of footage of him standing next to other bodybuilders whose height is known. He’s for sure around 6’0 at least. Not short and definitely not comparable to Tom Cruise 😂
Nice review and I really appreciate Mimo Jewelers working with you to help the watch community. I am going to check out their website today. Now.. on to the watch. I will eat my own guts with a fork and knife before spending $525 on a Japanese quartz watch. I cringe at spending that on a Swiss quartz watch. Add to it that you say that it’s an exciting watch.. and then start pointing out it’s foibles: too big (novelty oversized, really), hardl-lex (really? .. for $500 bucks?) weird dial color, mediocre bezel, bad strap, etc. in my mind, ever time you pointed something out I could hear an old timey calculator with the pull-handle go “tap tap tap, ker-chunk!” in my head subtracting money from the value of this watch. In my estimation this watch should be $199.99.. MAX! I mean.. are we paying by the square inch here? The one thing I found interesting and charming was the sync feature of the modules. That was cool. I think you summed it all up pretty well with pointing out that ,ultimately, the watch has no place in your collection. This, in spite of your initial interest and excitement about the watch. If Seiko can’t sell this to someone that interested in the the watch, it’s a fail. I bet you’d buy it for $199.99 though. Keep doing what you do, Guy. You are definitely one of my go-to You-tubers.
It’s miles better than any Swiss Quartz at the same price. Do they offer a Solar Ana/digital Quartz with fully motorised hands at that price? Swiss watches are overrated.
Not really! The original had the same issue with the dial when the sun use to hit the dial. Is not a bad thing! The strap is long for use over a diving suit.
One does get a little tired of little people with girly dwarf wrists complaining about watch sizes . You didn't get the testosterone growing up - that's not Seiko's problem
I almost bought this watch (tried it on at a local dealership).. but then I realised the hands are too small. Especially bothering for me is the minute hand... it does not go close enough to the minute track.. so basically to read the time accurately, you need to look at the digital display. This was a deal-breaker for me.. and that's a shame, as I love the overall look and design of this watch. I was *this close* but I put it down.
I am actually surprised you didn't mention this in the review.. the minute hand is way too short. I know why it is like that - it would obscure the digital display.. but still.
It looks huge, awkward and ridiculously excessive . Arnie very aptly named. It will be a hit with guys who like the faux military macho look . I really dislike it..
" ...increasing the prices ..." someone must say Seiko it is only a japonese brand that are made millions of units a year....nothing really special .... not handmade...not swiss made ... no special moviments or complications .... too much plastic (as the model above for example) ... no special materials ...someone can explain me why ?!... I owned the original arnie and now i own the New one! My all time favorite watch. Loved it in the 80s and still love it now.😎👍
I still have my original from the mid 80's I would SCUBA dive back then and used it as my dive watch. Looking forward to getting the new one.
I know Im quite off topic but does anyone know of a good place to watch new series online ?
Makes me want to book my next vacation to Val Verde
Ahahahaha....agree!
Uncle Seiko makes a great (better than the original) accurate version of the classic Seiko GL831 strap the original Arnie and other old Seikos came with (looks just like your strap), in short and regular lengths. Definitely worth checking out.
Now u know how us big guys with big wrists feel with all those tiny 40mm cases out there which little guys love
The size is perfect, the old one is the size of a ladies watch. Awesome update to an iconic watch.
Thanks for this. As an 80s kid it excites me.
I love this watch. Put it on a much improved Uncle Seiko strap and it is a great choice when I don’t want to risk damaging my Submariner. Large but not ridiculous on my 7 inch wrist for using as a true sports watch.
Fun fact. I’m the same height and within 15lb of ol Arnold. We carry the weight differently but I think I could rock the heck out of this Seiko.
I placed this watch on a black NATO from WCWC. This has helped the watch fit under a shirt due to the thinness of the NATO and also gets rid of the overhang problem.
Sounds like a good combo. I wanted to try it on some straps but since it was a loaner I didn’t take or off the original strap.
I love the look of that one, i HAVE to get one.
I hope you make it happen!
Just a small note about the ISO rating: every watch is individually tested.

Just got one from Macy's for $315. I've been very patient waiting for a price like that and I could not pass it up. I love this thing!
Insane good price 👍
Been wearing a Seiko blk monster since 2002. Just purchased this on eBay for $329. My monster still looks and works great but I had to have the new Arnie.
Is Seiko's warning in the manual about the LCD needing replacement after 7 years just a precaution or is it really gonna be illegible with time?
Great video as usual and your opening statement about Seiko's recent weird decisions is spot on. I got the SNJ028 first and I liked it so much I got the 025 as well. They are great watches on their own, despite the minor flaws you mentioned (which I agree with), and the Commando/Predator association only made them even cooler in my book.
Great watch. Got mine September 2019
Love the AS Seiko, beautiful watch for sure 👍🏻🙏🏻
I still have my original 1983 Arnie , but am considering this retro to add to my collection !
I actually loved the contrast between the brushed and polished keeper and buckle.
I really like the size of this new version. So Seiko if you're watching, please keep its size. Overall I like this watch. I just wonder how long it takes before the (secondary) battery starts to degrade.
Great review!!!! Just recently purchased this and my Seiko SPB143 has been neglected for almost a week now 😐...I love My Seiko Arnie!!!!
Just got my Arnie (2020 safari version) and its amazing! My first Seiko.
love wearing mine with a black and grey nato. come on im here!!!!
Love mine , purchased on EBAY under $300, its not big, I have skinny wrists was disappointed it was not larger !
Eloquent detail, well done!
Many thanks!
I will strongly agree with the idea that this was done well by Seiko. Thankfully, it doesn't cost a proverbial arm and a leg. Maybe they can keep building on this tactic just like they did with the Turtle. Good stuff.

Its a great watch, got it on release and no regrets love the dual time option also.
I too own an original Arnie and the new release. Love them both.
I still have my original from the mid 80's I would SCUBA dive back then and used it as my dive watch. Looking forward to getting the new one.
Torn between this and the vintage. Money isnt really the problem but more so functionality and collectability.
Great lighting 👌😎 cool video thanks for posting this beauty.
Thanks buddy appreciate it. Just got a new light a few days ago, still working on getting it dialed in but things should continue to improve.
Great review. So close to picking this one up and I appreciate your words of wisdom. Thanks.
I’ll just stick with my new Steinhart OVM and my Casio GWM 5610, but thanks Guy for a look at this different watch.
Can't blame you there, sort of the best of both worlds.
It’s not overly large but I could see a lot of people having a “beam me up Scotty moment”.
Got mine today from Seiya Japan. Love it.
The only sook I will have is I wish the lume was as good as my SBBN035. A minor thing that I'm sure I''ll get over :-)
Thanks dude. Just picked one up from Mimo's.
Great video! I’ve been holding off on buying this one and will give it a try now!
I would recommend it!
I like the big(ger) size. It’s perfection.
the arnie is also made in china to btw. kind of wish it was made in japan for the price.
Great review. I’m definitely considering this for my next watch.
Thanks Matt, appreciate it. I’d give the watch a try. I was surprised it’s much more wearable than I was expecting.
Hi,great review.seiko did not release this particular model in India for reasons unknown.so I bought the pepsi variant of this, which was officially released in India(which fool decides all these releases).

Nice 👍 review! Not my cup of tea but I love the 🦈 shark shirt 👕!!
I would buy one if I could get one that didn't say made in China on the back.
Indeed.... If it doesnt say Made in Japan I dont want it, especially as this watch costs real money.
Great review, really informative.
Thank you.
Love mine, I have the pepsi version as well.
Bruhhh the shirt is mad fire!
Great review of a cool watch!
Thanks Jeff.
Any technical working professional with a safety-first attitude will not wear this on the job. Cheers.
Much better intro!
Thanks, I’ll try.

It’s a bad ass watch.
That discount code doesn’t work
I love the watch. I just disagree with him when he says it's robust. To me it has a plastic feel to it.
I also find that the minute hand is too far away from the bezel. When you use it you have draw an imaginary line from the minute hand to the bezel if you really need accuracy.
Thanks for watching Joey, much appreciated.
Totally agree. I guess the did not want the hands to cover the digital display. As a result those hands are very small
It's large for the solar charging.

That shirt is dynamite. Great vid too by the way
I wouldn't call the bezel action on mine mushy. If anything, it's very dry, clicky, and very loud.
Awesome Shirt !
Looks at Pathfinder on wrist and wishes it was bigger...
Thanks for watching!

But no sapphire ... that is a pitty. Anyways as my only quartz watch, this would be a strong contender with a smaller diameter
Good video ! Bad Shirt !!!
