This watch is 80% Russian Tank.. And 20% Swatch. You will fall in love with these watches in spite of yourself. Never get tired of seeing mine on my wrist.

I love my Vostoks. I have an Omega, several Seikos, Orients etc. My go to watch is always the Vostok. Sure, not the most accurate but easy to regulate. The bezel tightens up under pressure. Been tested to 800 meters before failing. Been frozen in ice and boiled for a minute. No effect on the watch. Next on my list is the Vostok Zissou. The one Bill Murray wears in life aquatic.
Vostoks have also been in space.
For me it's not a matter of price. They're just great but sure, an acquired taste.

Unlike a Speedmaster it can go to space and it can go under water. I have no idea why they put 200 meters water resistance on them, there are loads of people that have taken them to crazy depths in pressure tests. Someoen guy pressure tested one and it broke at 820 meters. They are good to 500 meters at least.
Not to mention the Poljot Strela was the first watch in space and the first watch in a space walk, as usual everyone forgets that.

A big part of the joy of owning a Vostok Amphibia, to me at least, is the inexpensive nature and modability. For those of us to like to tinker and are not watchmakers, I think this provides a great option.

I am one of the people who love the Vostok watches mainly for the "retro-futuristic" look many of them have. They have that 60's sci-fi look to them that i adore and I am more than willing to accept their flaws and odd choices of finishing just to get a smile on my face whenever i look down on my wrist to check the (approximate) time! #WCW

I feel like the wobbly crown is a misunderstood feature on Vostoks (though I could be completely wrong). It makes more sense when you think of it as a way to negate the need for the spring loaded crown/stem found in most threaded crown watches. When the crown is screwed out, there are small spines that mesh the crown and the stem together (within the crown itself) allowing the user to turn the stem. When the crown is pushed in for rethreading, this disengages the splines (hence the wobble), allowing the crown to thread into the case without turning the stem simultaneously. Essentially, aside from the setting position, the stem never moves from the winding position, and can be made as a single piece, as opposed to two pieces with a tiny spring that require the user to physically press the crown in while threading, potentially imparting strain on the keyless works.
Again, I could be wrong, but from an engineering and manufacturing perspective this seems to make more sense.
Awesome video Guy, keep it up! I have a couple of Vostoks and think they're cool, durable, fun watches for what they are.

Thanks for an interesting take on the Vostok Amphibia. I have several, and I love them! Yes, they have their shortcomings like the bezel construction, non-quick date set and hair munching bracelets (which luckily are easy to change), but at the same time they also deliver a ton of personality due to their quirkiness and "vintage straight from the factory" style.

I bought my Amphibia in november last year and I’ve had it around my wrist since then.
After a little fiddeling with the adjustment...thing..(?) inside, it runs allmost perfect! (About 30 sec ahead per week.)
It’s rugged and the crystal has allready got som scratches but i LOVE IT!
I modded it with a bezel from Seiko and a Zulu-strap and I choosed to make a homemade kind of satin finish on the case to get rid of the cheap bling factor...

I love how the Amphibia's case back uses water pressure to make the watch more resistant. It symbolizes to me something about becoming stronger when the going gets tought. I have watched quite a few videos concerning the Vostok Amphibia watches. Mine is the sniper face version that has been mildly modded. It has a stainless crown, a stainless and slightly smaller bezel, and the bracelet is the woven Vostok factory one. I have no complaints at all about this watch. Does it keep perfect time? Nope. Do I care so much that I can`t move the hands once in a while? Nope. The case is the highly polished one, and this is a darned good looking watch that is comfortable to wear, and that`s all I care about.

I have 120 case design which I bought from meranom, it was running a little fast for my liking so I decided to regulate it myself. When worn the watch is now accurate to within 1 second a day, when laid flat for approximately 8 hours (bedtime) it gains 7 seconds. I replaced the bezel for a fixed one and put the watch on a nice leather strap- it’s one of my favourite watches now!👍🇬🇧

The Vostok Amphibia is fun and got me into movement regulation due to the wide accuracy spec range. The slow beat train of 19800 per hour is so cool you can see each tick per second. Most vintage dive watches before 1980 had a bidirectional bezel due to the one way bezel patent with the blancpain fifty fathoms. Good thing patents expire but these are like new old stock vintage watches. Same 60s design still made today.

  • @joeconrad3828

I’ve got a 710 with a blue Scuba Dude face. Love it. Yeah, the high polish looked kind of dumb, so I gave it a brushed finish with a Scotchbrite pad. Replaced the bracelet too. Accuracy is easily regulated and usually required, since they don’t seem to do it at the factory.

  • @nowuknows
    @nowuknows 3 роки тому +1

Bent stems are a huge issue... Try working with cold hands in snow, ice or while zeroing time in with dive buddies in and out of cold water. This is why the Rolex dive masters have the oversized bumpers which are crude and make the watch heavy. So the Vostok has a genius solution respect to the engineers
As for the accuracy, how many of you are going to use an atomic clock to set the second hand dead on zero ? And If you are not using an atomic clock to set time it is almost guaranteed that the clock or watch you are setting the time from is already off by maybe a minute or 2 if not more so -20 plus 60 Does not play a single roll over 24 hours for mission or diving for which this watch was designed. Average dive session is less than an hour 😊

Wow, Just Blue Fish replies to every comment! Hats off. This was an objective review even though I don't necessarily agree (admitted Vostok fan). It should be noted that it is mandatory by International law to mod them. Seriously, many models are cartoonish and kitschy. Changing the bracelet makes a huge difference. I just can't pull the trigger on The Dude but there are many other tasteful models. And yes, there is a big difference between Vostok and Vostok Europe. #wcw

I’ve just ordered my third Amphibia. I love them, they have a unique history and a 200 metre plus dive for around £60 they are incredible value. I don’t like the metal strap but the rubber one isn’t that bad. I don’t go for the models with the date, I have a collection and wearing it every two weeks or so and moving the date on would be painful. I go for the rubber strap models or swap out for a NATO. I’ve modded the bezel on two of them. I see someone wearing a Vostok and I know they are a watch man. Struggling to see 60% reflected in the comments here.

I've ordered one a few days ago with a few mods and I can't wait to get my hands on it. These watches are not for everyone's taste and I bought mine, because I want a tough and rugged outdoor/field beater watch while most people want a super cool flashy looking watchs that are going to draw a lot of attention, which is ok. I'm also a Seiko and Grand Seiko fan and I own 3 Seikos and one spring drive GS, but I wouldn't want to use any of them as a beater watch. G-shocks are probably ever better option as beaters, but i'm not really a fan of battery powered watches even though some look really nice. #WCW

Can't wait to mod the watch & wear it.
To each their own & all but I see this watch as a solid blue collar watch amongst a white collar watch collectors world & that's exactly what I'm looking for.
You go ahead & keep your Rolex & expensive watches in your home safe where you take them out to look at them once a year. Maybe you'll wear them on that one occasion & be so careful to not scratch it that you're obsessed over that the entire time.
I'll be wearing my Vostok watch & won't hesitate to work on my car, shower & use the fuckin watch I've bought just like it was built for.
In other words show me an expensive watch wearer & I'll show you a man who's not doing anything manly whatsoever. Might as well be wearing white gloves lol.

Well if you don't like the Scuba dude, Amphibia has lot of differents designs out there with similar specs .. not mentioning the mods where you can create you very own specific watch. I personally do not like the polished finishes, which you can easily 'modify' by stratching it with the rought edge of a sponge. The only downside in my opininon is the plexi 'crystal' which sratches easily.. but theres also a solution for that : polish... And you can also regulate the accuracy fairly easily... If you can't or dont want to afford a swiss diver this is definately a good a option for you, considerin this watch is more unique in the western world than any of the swiss made watches

I would argue that Vostok Amphibia has the best screw down caseback system where the threaded outer ring pushes the stationary caseback straight down without rubbing against the gasket rubber when tightening. The gasket is also a fat wide thing, - more sealing surface.
Vostoks have been reported to withstand the equivalent of 600-800 meters of pressure. That's how smart that solution is.
I have a love/hate relationship with my Vostoks, but they really have a heap of charisma.

I have a Seiko 5 for 8 years and actually worn it for 5 each day. I still wore it from time to time. It has stranded a huge amount of abuse. It was dropped in wall paint, I have restored a golf with it on my wrist. And after all this I have polished the case and except the dial glass looks like brand new after this polish. After it I have worn several watches, Casio, Xiaoumi, etc and Atlantic Worldmaster. The Atlantic after 2 years broke. For one week I have an Amphibia. What I can tell you is that Seiko is incredibly robust. Incredibly. No bezel, simple and a great watch. Extremely accurate too. But is really common as well and is and looks quite septic. Almost like it wasn't made by people but only by machines. The amphibia is more rugged and has a little more soul in it. Honestly. So far seems quite accurate as well. Less then Seiko though but more then Atlantic if you can believe this.

I like to see an objective review of this watch. Usually people either praise it like it's the best thing ever or just talk crap about it. I oersonally love it. #WCW

Hi Guy, thanks for the video!
I always appreciate your opinions, even if I don't agree with them! Personally I think you missed a major factor in the popularity of Vostok watches; the breadth and depth of dial and case options, compounded further by the quantity of mod parts available. Also many parts are interchangeable, resulting in a mod heads ideal starting piece at a very reasonable price.
Keep up the good work dude!

People are snobbish toward value priced items. Vostok is cool like Ural motorcycles are cool. They are different (not better), and represent a different ideology.

The Vostoc watch is unique. I don't expect everyone to like the Vostoc brand. If you don't like it no harm no foul. I love mine. The brand is a reflection of the culture it comes from. Its original. It does have history. It has charm. Mine has a rubber strap and its comfortable. Everyone says the metal bracelet is terrible.

He\\ I work for a living it’s not every day a factory worker can afford an actual true jeweled movement self winding wrist watch that’s also a dive watch and has the life expectancy of at least 10 years and can be bought for under $80 and it’s also been to outer 🪐 space ✨🪐. In case you can’t tell yes my frogman just came in the mail today!!!! I have an 8 1/2 inch wrist and the band fits without any adjustments,,,wow!!!!!love this watch👍pretty cool 😎👍 and I’m assuming this watch is also EMP rated,,, if the grid goes down tomorrow I can still keep accurate track of the time👍 I think I will buy more amphib/frogman watches and try some mods/straps/bezels etc.later on however right now I love mine just the way it is.

I'm kinda glad that most people in the poll don't like the Vostok ... because if these become popular the prices will go up and right now if you order them directly from Vostok you can get an Amphibia for under $70 and a Komandirskie for under $40.

#WCW I like vostoks because they're durable and have a 10 year service interval, so by the time it needs service, I'll either do it myself or buy another one.
Also, it's very easy to buy aftermarket parts. I bought a bezel that has Superluminova paint on the markings.

like most Russian stuff it's made to work and not to be fancy with the materials they had to work with.
It seems to work fine because they sell quite a lot.
that said, mine runs better than most of my seiko's after I did some fine tunning and yes I modded them for better lume but that's it.
I always say: if you want an accurate watch buy a quartz.

I've bought some straps from WCW before and, on one, the buckle broke, but they sent me a new buckle! Great customer service! Also, I'm a pretty big fan of Vostok watches but I can see why some don't like them (the crown, bezel, accuracy, etc). But to the enthusiasts, it's just kinda cool! Mine broke, but still cool! #WCW

For cheap thrills you can't go wrong with a Vostok Amphibia. I have quite a few and have modded all of them. People are fascinated by them because they look unlike anything else out there and have an interesting history.

It is a great rugged watch for everyday use, however i've had 2 komadirskye and one amphibia and its accuracy its total garbage, i dont know if you need to regulate it with a watchmaker right when you get it but that's the biggest flaw of vostok, but that aside it is a great beater watch.

    • @JustBlueFish
      @JustBlueFish  4 роки тому +3

I haven’t opened one but I’ve regulated several Seiko’s and some ETA movements. If it’s similar to those it’s an easy fix with a timegrapher.

Vostok is utilitarian. Not meant for looks, per say. They work, they’re tanks. Customizable. Mechanical, or Automatic. Water Resistance starts around 100m to 200m. Don’t have to worry about servicing for 10 years
