The Seiko Watches "Arnie" SNJ025 Wristwatch: The Full Nick Shabazz Review

- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Today, we're going to take a look at a neat little analog-digital watch from Seiko, the SNJ025, affectionately called the 'Arnie' because it featured on the wrist of Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie 'Predator'.
You can re-set/ synchronize the second hand; page 7 of the manual. Actually, hardlex crystal is preferred for a real use diving watch. Hardlex crystal is more likely to chip rather than shatter, unlike what a sapphire crystal may suffer upon a hard impact while scuba diving. Great review! "Get in da chopper"
This is honestly my grail watch
You get it yet, bro?
I agree if it had a sapphire crystal. But it’s damn close for me.
I noted with the recent update to the Garmin fenix line (now on version 6) one of the headline new features is solar charging, but oddly enough, while the solar models occupy the highest price tier, they are only offered with glass not sapphire. Sapphire editions are available for *less* money, but without solar. I am not a chemist or materials engineer, but this suggests to me that solar panels may simply be less efficient behind sapphire crystals due to some property relating to light transmission-at least insofar as the crystals and solar technology Garmin is using. Something similar may have influenced the decision by Seiko.
1ST seeing the watch on Arnold Schwarzenegger's wrist is
1. Commando (1985)
2. Raw Deal (1986)
3. Predator (1987)
4. The Running Man (1987) Also He Wears A G-Shock In The Final Act Of The Film.
5. Twins.
Love the watch, as do many others since it sold out promptly in USA market. Its not perfect but it puts a smile on my dial.
I bought this exact color model at Macys last week and it is bad ass, I love it, highly recommend. Also I don’t think this watch is especially large at all
I just got one it's smaller than my G-shock Gorillaz watch.
Whether you think the watch is "especially large" isn't really the point though. In the larger world of wristwatches, this is at the pretty huge end.
I was watching this with my girlfriend, and she says the fact that Nick explains all his jokes is corny but kinda cute
debated buying an original version for four years, massive arnie fan, mainly Terminator. Used heavily in Commando and i needed this watch. Glad i didnt stump for a 35 year old one for triple the price of this. Mine arrived today, its nice.
Great video. I was in 2 minds about buying this but after seeing your video I just went for it and I am very pleased ! I'm not sure if you are able to answer this but here goes. I prefer to keep button A and B open so that I can cycle through the modes quickly. My question is, is the watch still water resistant when the buttons are not screwed in? My understanding is you only need to screw them down for driving so for normal day to day use its fine i.e. washing hands, rain etc . Thank you in advance
I remember mine from the 80’s, broke the crystal on the boat and it set off a certain detector in aft berthing. Don’t remember what it would read with a AN/PDR-57 but it was surprisingly high. They are not iridium any more. Loved that watch so much I just bought two. Thanks great review.
I had the original. An old ex girlfriend of mine kept it....Years later I discovered that it was a pricey item on ebay.
I like this new version and i am very tempted. I just bought a mudmaster and I just think I'm getting more watch for less money. Like you said, $300 I would have bought one.
I just found out it's made in China. What happened to buying Japanese made watches?
Hi.. Thanks for the review.. I am a Citizen watch guys ONLY; however, i've heard about this Seiko and it caught my eye about its quality and retro style. In your opinion, do you think it is worth the $500.00+ US that it is selling for?
I just received this time piece and I am just trying it on right now! I got it for $300 on eBay the best purchase I’ve ver done. Lol I’m loving it!
Can you tell me who you purchased it from on eBay. I am in the market as well!
Do you see, that ticking has strange back move?
Your video just told me that I really don’t need this watch.
Thank you.
No one really needs watches these days.....but then again 1 is never enough 🤣
Watches are a luxury and art now. If you need something for military grade wear just buy a casio.
I have the Pepsi style Arnie and its a very cool watch in many different ways, its my first premium watch.
“it could snag on something like your sheets or your wife”
Just got mine last week from Macy's at $315. Felt that was a great bargain and I absolutely love it!
How did you get it for 315?
@@ltc5662 they had a sale! $315. Macy's occasionally has some killer sales
Did you get it online or in stores? Thanks!
I would like to see more of this style - the only negative for me is the size and weight is a little on the high side. But I love.
Last I checked, Seiko had zero digital pieces available for sale as new. Seiko was a mover and a shaker back in the day when it came to innovating with fully-featured digital pieces. They have such a wide back-catalogue of digital pieces to put on re-issue, and so much more space to innovate as Casio does in the unapologetically tool watch category. Seiko has brilliant designers for the mechanical pieces, I'd love to see what they can do if they're pivoting part of their resources toward there again.
This re-issue was a surprise to me. Maybe they can do the same for the James Bond watch and reclaim the throne as the manufacturer of the quirkiest travel watch from Casio. Here's hoping for some decent competition in that world. The digital watch market shouldn't belong only to Casio and Timex.
if it ticks we can wear it!
Love this watch because Arnold has wore it in 5 movies 😎 💪
Hey nick loved your review....just bought this watch this past friday 3/6 at macys....PAID OUT THE DOOR WITH TAXES...$342.00..I HONESTLY FEEL LIKE I GOT A BARGAIN...used my macys rewards on this watch...LOVE IT....
One of the only two non automatic watches I actually wear,(the other is a bulova precitionist chrono, with a rotating dive bezel)
I love your reviews Nick they always make me smile, you remind me of the character 'Crapgame' from the classic movie Kelly's heroes 😆👍
For just $200 more than this Seiko, you could get a Marathon TSAR. Though it doesn’t have all the digital features of this watch, it is a Swiss quartz movement, has tritium gas lum that doesn’t need to be charged (it’s great), a sapphire crystal, smaller size (though fairly thick) and a case that has been pretty much bulletproof (I wear mine every day). It seems like a watch you might enjoy. I hope you review one soon. I would happily let you borrow mine, but I’m not sure you would want to review a nine-year-old watch?
Hey Nick, been watching you for a while now. Love your reviews! I have to ask and because I appreciate that you take into consideration the cost. I’ve been looking at Seiko, Citizen and Vostok Europe. I think I’m a fan of the Eco drive and Solar charging for Seiko. Do you have a preference in general out of these makers? I know it’s vague, but just curious if you have a preference. I was looking at the Citizen BN2029-01E Promaster Aqualand. Thanks for your time!
Love the seagulls
For add to your interesting review (I own one the Pepsi model)

Thank you Nick!
I'll be back!
Great review of an interesting watch. I'm a sucker for Seiko dive watches, and Seiko history, so the re...make? Re-issue? Re-design? of the Arnie was exciting, despite being (in my estimation) too big, and a bit too ugly. I say this as I wear my SRP637 though, so I'm a "big watches are tacky and ugly" hypocrite... Would love to see this in a smaller variant, even though the original wasn't THAT much smaller, still in 45+mm Panerai-ish territory.
Tuna review when?
The Casio AMW 320R is also known as the Arnold because he wore one in the Movie Kindergarten Cop.
“Had” the aerospace? Did you change your mind and decide to sell it after all!
It's a big watch.
Good for Arnie, not so good for me!
But i did like the motorized hands soo.......
10:26 HAVE YOU SOLD THE AEROSPACE?????
Not jewelry-out of ALL my watches, this is the only one I've ever had anybody compliment me on the looks of,(I have the pepsi bezel),and I've got some nice looking, expensive sheit
Hello from South Africa, Nick. As always great review. I purchased one of these here locally, and must say, great watch. I am not a fan of rubber straps, and replaced mine with a black PVD strap from Strapcode. Why don't you try and get hold of one of the "real" Seiko Tunas like the Emperor or the models SBBN033 or SBBN013? I am sure you will fall in love with them.
I just bought this watch for $337 USD plus tax from Macy’s.
The price has now gone down significantly. Its hard to choose this over the SKX009 but I think I would because arnold is more of a badass than robert redford.
“Da watch over dare.” Are you from Chicago?
It's like a cross between a tuna and an skx
Nick, for 230.00 take a look at the Casio G-Shock GR-B100.its solar, high build quality,ani-digi,tons of functions, looks badass(as does the arnie)and here is the Kicker,it even has a CDT.for 500.00 can someone tell me WHY the arnie has no CDT,that to me is a DEAL BREAKER.
Wow, that's a really cool watch
Great review.... I don't need one of these and you helped confirm my initial thoughts.
Pretty nitpickey on the negatives. Sounds more like someone trying to talk themselves out of buying a watch witch I can relate to. I can agree on the lack of sapphire for this price point nowadays, but did you seriously say this watch should be smaller? It’s nicknamed the “Arnie” for crying out loud. Arnold is not a small guy and neither should this watch.
FWIW, this is essentially a re-make of the original, which was smaller.
Haha, thumbs up for the predator jokes
"A solid little watch.."
Um, Seiko makes serious dive watches, hence, their predilection for mineral over sapphire. Desk divers need not apply. And, yes, many pro divers today still strap on a watch as back up to their dive computer.
Hey nick!! What’s you Opinion on Casio G-Shock G-Steel Carbon Core Guard Connected Stainless Steel Watch GSTB200D-1A?
Is this joe Pesci lol good review mate
I thought it was Woody Allen.
Reminds me of Mel Blanc.
Great Review, tks
I bought it at 360€ in Italy. You can't find a better watch at this price point!
Wanna know something funny... this isn't the only watch he wore in the Predator. Skip to 1:23:49 The watch he has on there looks to be something with a leather racing strap on it. Mostlikely worn during reshoots... check it out yourself lol
You only forget one option! Show the 12 and 24 hours format!
I love the watch and review! But can i ask you? Are you from Boston?😎👍
"Seagull Tinder" lol
SNJ025 is the model of the new Arnie
I enjoyed the Predator jokes. Anyway, and bearing in mind that this watch is absolutely NOT my bag (zero jewellery factor), I actually think Seiko made the right decision going with Hardlex for the crystal. I mean, for a pure tool watch that's built to be rugged, like this, it perhaps makes more sense than sapphire simply because it *is* tougher and less prone to shattering. FWIW I've had a couple of Hardlex equipped watches that I do not baby whatsoever for about 3 years now and the crystals are doing just fine. Only one data point, I grant you, but I think Hardlex gets an undeservedly bad rap. Certainly, when it comes to heavy impacts, its failure modes tend to be more graceful than sapphire.
arcade.ly Make that 2 data points, have many Hardlex watches and never managed to scratch any of them, and they did get it contact with several surfaces. Another advantage is that it is very clear, clearer than Crystaltimes ClearAR Saphires which I also have.
I love your videos.
Whole reason Arnie was targeted was this watch...the Predator really wanted it.
Being a lifetime Arnie fan, that connection is the only thing that would interest me about this watch.
Nice! Or should I say, "I'll be baaacck!"
350.00 now on Amazon
i wonder if going on a dive with this might activate power saver mode. that would be bad.
It takes 2hrs of complete darkness to activate the mode.
"chronify" lol
Just bought the PADI version for $288 on Amazon. Lol Nick and his puns.
Great review. I always appreciate your blunt honesty. They've since released a Safari version (the Safarnie) and it looks considerably more stylish... still $500?
my only critique: you mention at the end that there are similar watches that can be had cheaper, but maybe you could have named specific models?
He's probably talking about analog and digital watches like a citizen Skyhawk or something around those lines
For that money, it should be made in Japan and not China.
when did you sell the aerospace?
The display last only 7 years, after 7 years you have to change the display, and you won't know if they still have pieces to replace and how much you have to pay... is written in the manual
All watches with that type of display do.
What are the three short metal button like things at 10, 20, and 45?
Hardware that holds the ceramic guard in place.
@@Loudpedal10 oh, I thought they were function buttons.
Think he managed to talk me out of it. Like the size of it tho. Citizen for me.
Your puns dude...
😂😂😂
Nobody pays 525 for that watch, they are below 300 bucks brand new in the box, all over the internet..eBay, Amazon
A diver's watch with chronograph but no depth meter?? I prefer Citizen Aqualand with depth meter.
14:30 missed a joke there about "mudmaster" ;)
the jokes made me subscribe. :D
Sapphire is a mineral...
In watches, "mineral" refers to a material just called "Mineral Crystal". I'm not sure exactly what "mineral" that means, but that is how it is marketed in this space (generic terminology more denoting that it *isn't* sapphire than anything else).
Hey Jerky!
$375 on Wallmart
הוא מדבר יותר מהגובה שלו
To the choppahh
I first thought of Arnold Palmer and confirmed my guess when I saw the "golf ball" dots.
Oops.
Seagull Tinder🤣😂🤣😂
Hehehe....seagull tinder
Half bezel, half face. The Arnie Half Watch. The Condensed Chunk Master? The Dwarfstar ? The Shrimpomatic? The Lumpkin Wrist Weight? yuuuck.
You're really gonna have to try harder on those corny jokes!
Get to the shoppa...😶🤔🧐😑😌😊😏🙂😅🤭🤗🤣😂😇
Seriously ugly watch!!!
C'mon, analog with digital? The "smushed" lume? It looks DUMB!
Calm down honey
Nice review, watch 👎
Stop talking like a damn wise guy!
Sorry...I don’t wear watches named after any republican. No good can come of it.
