Just so intriguing to witness the Garmin innovations! But, like the iPhone, I am pretty happy to lag on the upgrades for at least 3 to 4 years! I'm thinking that, from a watch perspective, I could wait out 5 years even! Which is a problem for Garmin sales! I'm so satisfied and constantly happy with my Fenix 6 Pro. I battle to find a reason to upgrade. Love your presentation - even though you are catching a train.
I'm kinda on that train. Have had a fenix 5 for 5 years now, and am now going to by a epix pro sapphire 47 for 700€ in order to once again be happy for many years. I just think if I'd spend less for a outgoing model now I'd always feel like I missed out on stuff like oled, elevate v5 or the flashlight
Looks like a nice step forward. As an Epix 2 owner I'm quite happy with what I've got. Once the 3 comes out, hopefully with independent cellular connection capable of texting / dictation, then I'll upgrade. The ability to completely ditch the phone on runs / rides would be worth it
@Tom's Running Adventures Haha....most likely but for when I need cellular connectivity, I will just use my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic with a working LTE connection.
@Tom's Running Adventures You so sure? Did you know they already have a watch with LTE through a monthly subscription that can send voice and text messages? Pretty sure it's a matter of when not if. I'd say Epic 3 it's 50% to be included, 3 Pro at 75% and if it gets to 4 without it it's got to be 100% by then
I've just ordered the 51mm to replace my Gen 2. All the little things I didn't like on the Epix over previous Fenix watches have been fixed so I'm happy. Paying Garmin £400 every couple of years to upgrade is well worth the reliability, features and Garmin Connect without a subscription.
Hey man. What do you mean paying them to upgrade? Do they have a system like Samsung where you trade your old product in for a discount on a new one? Thanks.
Cheers for this review, as it helped me decide, and in the end, I bought the 51mm. I'm now over 50, never really worn a watch before, and don't run 🤣... but after recent illness which has seen me shed 18kg in 4 months, poor sleep for last couple of years, and moving to Finland in 2018 causing my natural activity levels to fall for a significant part of the year, I wanted to get a better understanding and control of my health, fitness, and sleep. After buying the gen 1 (great price) in 47mm size, I realised that my poorer eyesight also meant that watch faces without reading glasses are tough to read, so I sent it back and bought the Gen 2 pro 51mm. So far, so great. Tracking my mtb rides, swimming, rest, heart rate, even naps! 😆 Things have come a long way since my first digital watch in 1981! Thanks for the great review and other vids on your channel, as they really helped me to understand sports watches generally and to choose this model.
Former Apple Watch Series 8 user. Epix Gen 2 Pro is a must! I absolutely love it! Took me 2 years to decide on what watch to get. After hundred of videos, and articles, this is the winner! Glad I was patient! (
Nice work, as always. I don’t think I can justify the upgrade from the standard Epix Gen 2, but I’m glad to see how they’re embracing the display and moving forward with it. The only reason for me to switch would be to move up to the bigger battery, but I’d want to try the larger model on first to see how it sits on my wrist.
Just bought the Epix pro 47 mm , video great for familiarizing me with all the functions . I had seen a previous video you did comparing the fenix7 vs this watch . Had a Fenix 5 previously . Features and display blows the old watch out of the water . Keep up the great work
Tried this on the other day. Have about the same wrist as you 19cm and the look on my wrist wasn't too bad when i know it's for the better battery life. But my issue is how the long lugs goes straight out to the sides instead of a slight curve down for better wearability. It felt like a hockey puck on my wrist because of it. And i have no issues with 50mm+ G shocks because of how nicely they curve down. So i went for the 47mm which felt right at home.
You have nailed it again, another great video. I've got an Epix Gen 2 and still interested in the upgrade. Flashlight makes load of sense to me and also the red light stuff! Awesome, maps look better. Not sure about all these other health metrics, endurance and hill score etc. Keep up the great work Des
I've never had a fitness watch before. I was about the pull the trigger on the Epix due to the price drop but knew I wanted to see what this offered. Already put in my order for the 51mm Sapphire.

DC Rainmaker said it was pretty close. If you want perfection you go chest strap no matter what watch you have though. This will be true for the next 100 years.
I have a small 18cm wrist and cant decide between the 47 or the 51. Any ideas which one to choose. That bigger battery seems great but lots of people talk about how heavy and bulky it is for wearing it 24/7 as a fitness tracker.
I just got my epix pro yesterday. I’ve noticed that on the default watch face that the heart rate doesn’t refresh every second in the background like my forerunner 965 does. Is this normal??
How is the visability of the screen compared to the FR 965 concerning the sapphire vs gorilla glass dx and the backlight brightness in direct sunlight?
I ended up getting the Samsung galaxy watch 6 and personally I love it. When Garmin makes a watch that has the smart capabilities with the amazing fitness tracking they already have then I'm in. But they will probably charge $800 or $900 for it. I do think Garmin is way over priced!!
What’s your preferred daily wearable? Also, what’s the measurement of the “top” of your wrist not the circumference? I just want a reference because the top is what matters most. Thanks.
I’m in the market coming from a vivoactive 4, so my big question is epix pro 51 vs the fenix 7 pro. So looking forward to that video comparing the two.
Hi there, Des! Quick question for you. Looking to get back into Garmin. Was considering the Epix Gen 2, as I cannot afford the pro. Thoughts on a watch that will soon be 2 years old? Honestly, I don’t train, I’m more of the every day exercise guy. But my old man eyes need the AMOLED screen, and the battery life is really one of the things that sells me on Garmin. I do use Maps, so that is actually kind of important to me. Also love round trip courses. Have also considered the 965, but I do love the look of the Epix. Hoping just for some advice. Thanks again! Great video as always.
Just watched both reviews and the comparison video. Seems with the new updates the differences have been narrowed. Will you be making a follow up comparison video with your go to choice for these pros? Would love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for a great vid, Des. Question: does Epix Pro display summit names + their elevation on the TopoActive maps? Does tracking a hike with a map on drain more battery?
Depends on what you're looking for. The Enduro 2 is still the leader when it comes to battery life when it comes to Garmin watches but the Epix Pro 51 is not that far behind with the AOD off. You can also check out this video for more details about the differences between the AMOLED display and MIP: ua-cam.com/video/ypiQybI64RA/v-deo.html Thanks!
Hi Des. Loved the video. I just recently got the Epix gen 2 and love it for activity tracking. I was also wearing the whoop for activity tracking and monitoring my sleep. I recently cancelled my whoop subscription as I found it was to much when the Garmin has body battery and sleep tracking. The only thing I miss about the whoop is it wasn’t noticeable when sleeping compared to the big Epix gen 2. I was thinking about getting the Vivosmart 5 just for sleep tracking and I was wondering if you know that I would see my sleep and body battery if i wore the vivo and left my Epix off? Or if you think Garmin will release a tracker or sensor dedicated to just sleep?

I should ask DC Rainmaker as well...
Can you put in custom weight training workouts? Also will it control your music on an iPhone?
I just got my epix pro yesterday. I’ve noticed that on the default watch face that the heart rate doesn’t refresh every second in the background like my forerunner 965 does. Is this normal??
The flashlight LED is replaceable?
Hey Des is there any way you'd do a video comparing the Epix and 965, even as a shorts video?
I'll see what I can do!
I do think Garmin is way over priced!!
coming from the FR 935, Am I going to be disappointed with battery life and viewing the screen in the summer daylight? Everything else is an upgrade!
Would you recommend the sapphire glas or the normal one?
What’s your preferred daily wearable? Also, what’s the measurement of the “top” of your wrist not the circumference? I just want a reference because the top is what matters most. Thanks.
I’m in the market coming from a vivoactive 4, so my big question is epix pro 51 vs the fenix 7 pro. So looking forward to that video comparing the two.
which weather widget are you using? really like the look of the one in the video. Thanks
The stock one that comes with the Epix pro
Is bluetooth 5.4 available in the epix pro 51mm🤔
Any idea if there will be a 965 Pro with updated HR sensor?
Now the question is: what is now the user base for the Fenix lineup?
Hi, Des, great video! Is the comparison one between the two out yet?:)
In about an hour or so! Just wrapping it up

Video is dropping tomorrow!

Amazing epix pro👍
Epix Pro vs Enduro 2 please 👏🏼🤞🏼👍🏼
Thanks for a great vid, Des. Question: does Epix Pro display summit names + their elevation on the TopoActive maps? Does tracking a hike with a map on drain more battery?
Great review as always 😄 in your opinion make sense to switch to the New EPIX PRO from an Enduro 2 ? Thank you
Depends on what you're looking for.
Does this watch have auto brightness adjust?
I hope they love the endurance score to the other watches
