I will stick to my Fenix 6 for another year or two waiting for the next big thing or these versions next year at a fraction of their high price. Thanks for the review!!! 🎉🎉
Both are great. Tried both. Ultimately Epix is just more beautiful and I have no problem with the battery life. I have mine to display off and just simply tap the screen to see the time. Not worth keeping the display on at all time to take a hit on the battery and felt the even though the Fenix was always on, it was a bit too dull anyways and I'd have to tap it anyways to get it to brighten. And if I am dressing up and want to show off the watch, just turn on the AOD. All comes down to preferences. I think if all you do is hike and stay outdoors all the time and no where near a charger, the Fenix is probably the way to go. If you're like probably +90% of users, the Epix is the better choice. Great thing is Garmin gives us choices!
Excellent point about the Fenix screen being too dim for always on. I think Garmin is going to feel a big hit on Fenix buyers switching to Epix if they haven't already.

The feature is most useful in more rural areas, where you aren't affected by artificial lights.
As an existing EPIX gen 2 user, I see no reason for upgrading. The watch is still amazing and the new features don't really sway me into buying the newer model. However, if the newer models had included LTE capabilities, THAT would be a game-changer. BTW, the Epix 2 pro 51mm LOOKS BRUTAL man!! I see why that'll be your go-to watch. Great vid as usual! Already subscribed.
There's really no reason to upgrade unless you absolutely want the flashlight, or have issues with the HR sensor. Other than that they are VERY similar and both will continue to receive firmware updates for the foreseeable future.
Just ordered the Fenix 7S non-solar for 550€. Should be more than enough for my casual trail running. My previous watch is Forerunner 45 so there's quite a leap
I have the Apple Watch ultra and was so excited to hear about the epix pro 51 mm( I need that flashlight)! When I got it, it looked amazing and very sharp but I can’t get used to it and actually think I prefer the MIP. When that is in full sunlight it looks almost majestic haha. I’m sure I’ll get used to it but right now I’m regretting getting the epix 51 over the fenix 7x pro
@@isthi000ifyit is but has many disadvantages near all reviewers talk down or ignore Unusable on a bike. I tried. The dimming after seconds even in aod mod means you wont see any information without touching. For a multisportswatch thats a huge fail. Now after 2 years there are way more consumers with burn in display if zhey used aod. Then a horrible battery life on the s and 47mm..etc Imo its a huge mistake to put amoled into sportswatches. But its shiny so people will buy it.
i bought two and tested both out to see which i liked. I returned the epix pro 2. and kept my fenix 7x pro. Having to twist your wrist to turn on the display for epix was getting too annoying. To negate that i turned on the always on display and ate through battery like no other. I've always been a G shock guy so battery life had to be still somewhat relatable. Came from GBDH1000 to GBDH2000 and now fenix 7x pro and i'm glad i made the switch. Casio seems to lost its ways. I dont ask for much but the small features i do use, i want it to be good. Garmin is light years ahead of casio in terms of app. We will see how durable these garmin lasts though. Depending on that i might go back to g shock. I wear my watch every day and work with it on. I also surf, hike, sleep with it so it tends to go through some beating. So far Fenix 7x pro has been the ideal watch. Especially the dam flashlight. This feature itself got me to switch over. It's the best thing i've thought i didnt need but needed in my life.
@ @kk4649k hello, many thanks for your comment. Can I ask you, if your fenix has met all the requirements (in terms of robustness) so far? G Shock is known for such things that the watch can also fall from meters.
This made my day. As a long time Forerunner, Fenix, and Tactix user (curremtly 7X Sapphire Solar), I’ve been playing with the Apple Watch Ultra with its connected features and nice display, but much reduced sports and fitness attributes. I’m SO glad Garmin is continuing to eat Apple’s lunch, core, seeds and all. The experience of continuously wearing the Garmin devices and getting increasingly personalized data far outstrips the Apple experience, even with additional apps. Now that the Epix Pro has improved battery life as well as the new features, I’ll feel more comfortable adding an Epix to my Garmin setup and (happily) sending the AWU on its way 😅 [I wonder whether Garmin would consider adding Bobbing for Apples as a team activity…]
The two things I still gain from the AWU, is the ability to grab ECG readings for my cardiologist (plus Afib detection). And the ability to leave my phone at home. I know that cell service eats at my battery life, but it’s a great feature. I still wear the AWU on one wrist and my Fenix on the other though. I don’t want to completely give up my Garmin :-)
To start with which watch you choose, I think you should first choose the size you like the most, then the color. I have big hands and wrists and still choose size 47mm which is not a small size and looks best for me (a bit more like a normal watch I think). When it comes to color, I choose silver as I think it is most reminiscent of a regular nice watch (a matter of taste). Then to the choice between Fenix 7 pro or Epix pro, the choice is Fenix 7 pro (47mm) as the battery life weighs a lot for me as I don't like to charge but also want a bit of a normal nice watch feel and like the dials. I wear the watch all the time, for example training, work and parties and when I sleep.
Just bought an Epix 51mm can’t wait to get it, I’ve been researching the Fenix and Epix for over a year now trying to justify it…. Well it seems I can’t hold off any longer. Love the channel and honest reviews
Looking at buying the Fenix Pro Sapphire Solar or Epics Pro Sapphire both 51mm. Having a hard time making up my mind between the two screens. I am not into flashy and That’s kinda what I think of the Epics when you I look at the side by side. But the Epics seems like the font is more sharp when compared to the Fenix. Paralysis by Dialysis
Out of all the other review channels, I trust yours the most. You're always dead on with your information and you're HONEST and to me that goes a long way these days. I'm still on the fence if I want to replace my Epix 2 and get the new Pro....the bigger battery and flash light are pretty cool but are they worth $1100??? That bigger screen sure is pretty though 🤣🤣🤣 what the heck why not! You sold me on it....let's just hope they work out the bugs on the weather overlay. Great job on the video and I appreciate all of you're hard work and dedication. See you at the next review!
The red shift functionality is the reason why I chose the pro version of the Epix gen 2. It is useful at night, in particular if you are observing the sky.
I bought the Epix and then sent it back and swapped it for the Fenix, like other comments below, what's the point of a vivid display if it's switched off. I didn't realise how much I look at it until I got the Fenix and then was annoyed at constantly having to twist my wrist to tell the time (difficult to hide in meetings etc.). It's not practial to have the Fenix always on due to the screen burn risk, and, seeing as I plan on keeping the watch for a good few years this was a deal breaker for me. Fenix it is, and I'm happy with my choice. Hope this helps....
How easy is it to read the Fenix in various lighting conditions? I've heard it's hard to read indoors but maybe that's solved with a brightness boost? I'm on the fence between Fenix and Epix solely due to the screens...
Now I would buy the brand new Fenix 8, but I'm undecided between amoled and mip. I'm afraid of the effect the AMOLED display has at night, I don't want it to be seen turned on, and I can't stand the idea of rotating my wrist to see the time, better to turn on the display with a button, like a "normal" watch . What do you think?
@@UmbertoUguccioni I actually just pulled the trigger on the Enduro 3. I wanted MIP without the lens solar (better clarity) with the new HR sensor and UI. I personally don't care about dive features or the mic and speaker so that was a big savings over the Fenix 8. We'll see how it works!
@@artificermike sounds good, but please note that Garmin has improved very much the solar MIP display: It looks like Garmin has solved the problem of the poorly visible solar display (I've heard in DCRainmaker's review)
@@UmbertoUguccioni yea that's what I'm hoping for! The Enduro 3 and the Fenix 8 Solar have the same display and solar setup. Really the only feature difference (according to DCR) is the Fenix has a metal backed case, mic/speaker, and dive functionality.
Great information like always! I get Epix Gen 2 Pro in 51mm and I like it a lot. Flash light is definitely practical thing. I own Epix Gen 2, but I will sell it. Bigger screen, better battery life and flashlight is something which is worth it to upgrade.
After a TON of research, I am upgrading to the Fenix 7 pro sapphire solar from my Fenix 3 HR Sapphire I got refurbished 7 years ago 😂 I personally love the MIP display and I have no doubt I could upgrade to an OLED in the future. This could be the final "pure" flagship with MIP.
I've been waiting for this review for a year and a half! 😅 Finally a 51mm Epix! I already ordered mine. Dave, I feel this is a kind of closure, because I bumped into your channel in the beginning of 2022 while searching for Epix Gen 2 reviews before buying it, and I immidiately became a fan ❤ Back then, I really struggles with the decision of Epix vs the 7X. I wanted the bigger screen, but eventually the AMOLED screen broke me. And now, finally! No more struggling!
Oh, thanks for the excellent detailed review. I was waiting for one of you outstanding reviewers I follow to review this, and from my perch in Munich, Germany, I believe you are the first! Nice work.😊 I have the Epix 2 Sapphire and was wondering if I should upgrade, but I think after viewing your review, I won't. I like the idea of a bigger screen, but I am not sure my small runner wrists would support a 51mm watch. Also, the software upgrades aren't dramatic. I hope in further editions, Garmin refines the cases to allow for more giant screens of all sizes.
Phenomenal review! I got the Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar last year and I'm super happy with it. I'm a runner and I love all the data that I get from my Garmin watch. I also track my weight lifting training with the watch. Both the 7 Pro and the Epix Pro look amazing. If had to choose again I would probably get the Epix Pro since it seems there is little difference between the two watches now that the battery life is similar on both watches. I'll probably hold on to my watch for another 5 years so we'll see what's new then. Thanks for the review! Cheers!
I prefer the longer battery life on the Garmin fenix 7x pro sapphire solar. I spent two and half weeks on a camping/hiking trip last month and didn't have to charge the beast until the last week. Only because i used the torch on the beast more than i should have it's just so convenient. Im now looking at the Garmin Instinct 2X solar tactical for work ( Security Sector ) we'll see how the fenix 7x pro goes at work first. The Instinct has stealth mode where as the Fenix 7X doesn't! But I'll try airplane mode on the fenix and see if that does the same as stealth mode. Another awesome review mate thanks
Garmin is creating specs Freaks out of us. Thanks for the clip! Appreciate it, will watch 35 more videos to take that hard decision of choosing one of 2 watches based on tiny but essential differences
I tried the Fenix 7x Pro for a week. Liked it but didn't love it especially for the price. In that same week it went on sale. So I actually swapped it for the Epix gen2 Pro. Now this watch feels well worth the price and the Amoled screen is way nicer!
Great video Dave! Loving my Epix2 sapphire with titanium band for about 8 months now - the flashlight isn’t enough reason enough to consider upgrading, and I’m always using a Polar HR sensor with it other than on a hike.
I just sold my Epix Gen 2 watch that I bought 5 months ago. The main reason for wanting to get rid of the constant disconnection with my iPhone 13 was that. I hope Garmin has solved this issue in the new model.
Do you swipe up on your apps to close them in the background? That overrides background app refresh even if it was on. Source: Myself; I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max, Epix Gen 2, MARQ Aviator GEN 2, among other watches Garmin/not. No issues at all.
@@zfjames In general, I do not close background apps by swiping them up. However, I did try swiping up and keeping the Garmin Connect app open to see if it would solve the issue. Unfortunately, the problem persisted. One thing I noticed was that the connection was often lost when I moved away from my phone and then returned to it. My previous watch, the Fenix 3HR model, worked perfectly fine, and I was very satisfied with it. Thank you.
What is "auto back light"? Is that whereby it turns on when flip wrist, as per the Epix2? I have a 7 Saph Solar and the new software features will surely drop soon. When you have a baby, the flashlight is so useful! Id also love to see a "buggy running" activity profile...👌🏻 The beta firmware currently unreleased is the same as the new Pro models....so very likely that the features will cascade to existing F7 models.
I upgraded from the Fenix 7X Solar to the Porsche Edition of the Epix 2 four months ago (your Epix 2 review pushed me over the edge on switching…the AMOLED display >> the Fenix battery life) so I don't think I'll be upgrading to the Epix 2 Pro. I find it interesting that these models don't have an EKG feature. I guess maybe that's a feature more suited for average consumer model. I had been an Apple Watch wearer from the 1st Gen. When the Series 8 came out I bought the Nike version day one, but returned it after using it on one or two workouts. It was essentially the same as the Series 7 watch. I switched to the Garmin because I was getting more serious about training, and it was mind blowing the difference in training and performance information and feedback was. Add in long battery life and that the mapping feature is far more advanced, I'll never be going back.
Love it ! the only thing I miss on my Garmin is a bit more compatibility with the iPhone that's it ! , it might take 20 years before the Apple Watch gets 2 weeks of battery life 😂 trust me I use them too
Great hands on review! Thanks for doing both Fenix and Epix at the same time; very practical. Curious, was there any indication that the software features will be available later on the 265 or the 965?
Thanks! I suspect the 965 will get most of these features, the 265 might get some of the training specific stuff. Time will tell. Keep an eye on the beta forums at garmin!
Honest question: can you see the Fenix 7 Pro in the dark without the backlight? Could make the difference in whether I buy the Fenix Pro or the Epix Pro, especially with the $200 off holiday sales now. I have the Apple Watch ultra but its display is really the only thing I like about it …
Very excited for the Epix Pro, currently have Fenix 6X Pro and a Coros Vertix 2. I will take the plunge and get myself the Epix Pro. Very happy to see all the updates they provided for the Epix Pro and Fenix Pro. Great video and information.
Great helpful review, thanks Dave!! I have Enduro 2 and do open water swimming and also use it as an odometer on my bike. I'm thinking of buying Epix 2 pro. Is it possible to keep Epix 2 pro always on even for several hours without rotating the wrist? Is the dial legible underwater and in bright sunlight?
Great review. I am upgrading from a 935 and main goal is long course triathlon. Money aside, would you prefer the 965 or Epix™ Pro (Gen 2) - Sapphire Edition | 51 mm. Assuming the Epix could take the brunt of day to day better ( better scratch resistant vs 965?) Thanks
HejHej Dave, super helpful Video. I love your Chanel. One question Where have you found the backup and restore Option? I have an 51mm epix pro and can not found this option Thanks for your help
Excellent review, thanks! I'm currently an Epix 2 user, generally happy. However, I've seen several instances of the "cadence lock" effect on HR, seems like this is a common problem. Do you know whether Garmin has fixed this by updating the HR sensor hardware on the back of the watch?
Nope, blood pressure is still a tricky one for a watch to detect without some sort of air filled sleeve. However, there's new technology on the horizon that can detect it via a light so we may see that change in coming years.
I have a question about the weight and size comparison of the Apple Watch ultra and the Garmin fenix 7x. Where I live there is no where close that sells garmin for me to go try one on. I go back and forth with the 47mm fenix and Apple Watch. I currently have the Apple Watch ultra and have always wanted to try the 51mm fenix. I know there is a 8.7g difference, a 2mm difference in height, and a 7mm difference in width. Is all that really noticeable on the wrist?
Ughh I wish Garmin would add their LTE option to the newer watches. Such a great feature! I’ll be holding on to my 945 LTE until one of these premium watches incorporates it.
That’s a lot of information, nicely distilled. Sounds like Garmin really listens to its customers and they’ve introduced all the wanted features. I’m pretty sure Garmin will feed the software features through to the existing 7 series in time, and I’ll be excited to see them on my Enduro 2. But it feels like we’re getting close to perfect now. Aside from integrating inReach, I wonder how much more tech we need in a watch.
I wonder that myself for the sake of this UA-cam channel lol! I remember holding the first iPhone back in 2007 and saying the same thing though "How could this get any better?" and look where we are now! I suppose time will tell.
I think there will be lots to talk about in the future. I appreciate how Garmin has their “something for everyone” approach. It seems so contrary to other companies.
Love the new updates for the Epix 2 Pro including the 51mm and flashlight not to mention crazy battery life. Can I ask what the width of your wrist is to give us an idea of how big the 51mm watch will be on our wrists?
I'll sell my Fenix 7x and get the Epix 2 pro 51mm. The main reason is the screen and now paired with the better battery life. I love the Fenix 7X with its massive battery life that I almost forget I've got to charge from time to time but the screen is always meh compared with OLED. The Epix 2 pro will be a bit of a hit on the battery life but the screen clarity and resolution will be much better for map reading while out walking which is my main use. Also the improved HRM for Racketball will be good.
I just bought the epix 2 a week ago. It was on sale at a navy exchange for a lil over $700. Killer deal for this watch imo. Still cant help but thinkni missed out on the pro
The sensor is physically different. At the time of launch there's no ECG but I suspect the hardware is there and they just need to add it via firmware once it's approved.
@@ChaseTheSummit i believe so too. Only that function are interesting me over my epix 2. - no new UI loke forrunner.. nothing really worth the upgrade without that.
I think that Garmin is playing it safe by launching the same flagship watches. The only difference in between each watch is just a few minor updates as software features, minor battery improvements, and lights. Personally, l am a Garmin fan and from using a Fenix 6X pro to anEpix gen 2 the difference on upgrading the watch is not worth the money. Having said that, these watches are amazing and for someone who is new to Garmin or for someone who has a very primitive watch is worth.
I just found my Forerunner 305 yesterday that I bought in January of 2007 for marathon training, and it still works! I might be eligible for an upgrade.😂
Thinking to get a tactix 7 Pro but want to know if I should consider the epix Pro (Gen 2) - Sapphire Edition or Gen 2 Pro Standard. What is the difference between the Sapphire and Standard? Do both epix's come with the solar charging ring?
Thank you very much for this overview. Your videos are very helpful to me the last years. I am using the Epix 2 Saphire for almost a year now and I like it very much. On the other hand I like the new Fenix Pro as well so I decided to order it and use if for the summer month and outside and I will keep the Epix for winter and inside. 🙃
The metal ring around the optical sensor certainly looks that way but when I asked Garmin they made no promises or shared any plans. Time will tell but I suspect we’ll eventually get it.
If I am not mistaken, you promised an in depth review of the FR 965. Maybe include the direct comparison to the Epix Pro as well. Rumor has it I want to buy one of them but cannot decide ;)
I'm waiting for my Fenix 7x Saphire to be delivered and I just finished watching this presentation. I really like the RED SHIFT feature, but it is not on the Fenix model. Almost makes me want me to reorder the Epix and return the Fenix (unopened). How do I register a future upgrade request with Garmin, and is such a request something they will consider if there is enough interest from the user community?
I suspect the 965 will get a lot of these software features but yeah... no flashlight or updated HR sensor (though the HR sensor is quite good on the 965 in my testing).
@@ChaseTheSummit Do you think its worth upgrading from fenix 5 to forerunner 965? Epix gen 2 seems interesting but much more expensive and I'm out of budget now. Also I want to get rid of MIP screens since amoled is so beautiful.
Garmin actually upgraded the display on the Fenix 7 Pro compared to Fenix 7, that's why the author notices some positive changes. The new display has some tweaks to make it more reflective - which is exactly what the Fenix 7 needed.
Great video. I note that you are using non-Salomon drink bottles. I have a gripe with mine that they leak easily and can't be fixed closed easily. Could you let me know which ones you are using as they appear to have switches on them, cheers.
Kind of a toss up. They both have advantages in different lighting conditions. Fenix is still easier on the eyes in blaring direct sunlight while the Epix can get a little hard to read. However in just about every other situation I prefer the Epix.
I have the EPIX 2, but I'm 60, so a larger screen is of great benefit. I was hoping that it would be 2000 nits like my Apple Watch Ultra. The EPIX 2 is harder to see in bright sunlight. Either way... You rock! You have a lot of enthusiasm in your YT vids.
I just replaced my instinct tactical last fall with a 955 which is obsolete because of the 965 display. I was looking at the fenix 7 at the time and I am glad I didn’t make that investment, for now I will keep what I have as a year from now their will be a better version of what’s new always an you would be chasing it 26:3326:33
None of these watches are obsolete. New versions will pop up but Garmin will continue to support older models for a very long time... In fact my original Fenix 1 from over 10 years ago still syncs with Garmin Connect.
In this video on the Epix pro do you have brightness turned all the way up? I hear the brighter screen can sometimes be hard to see in sone conditions.
The Epix Pro has a 1000 nit brightness screen. In my experience it's been bright enough for just about any situation. There are some very rare situations (think on a beach, in the summer, with sun directly overhead) where it can be a little harder to read but for the most part it's not an issue.
Amazing vid as always, please can you explain the benefits of a sapphire screen and a titanium bezel? Stronger glass and more scratch resistant bezel...would that be it?😊
@@ChaseTheSummit i believe mine is also 165mm - I just HATE to think that i have to take a "smaller" watch with less battery and other specs. So I will live with a big watch. You have done a video on FENIX 7 vs Enduro 2 right? Those 2 are probs my favourites and choosing one is proving to be difficult man
Another great video. I am looking at a new watch. Would you recommend one of these new pro versions or the forerunner 965? I do like the flashlight and new metrics on these pro versions.
That's a tough one the nice thing about the 965 is that it gets the 1.4" display despite being a smaller 47mm form factor. However, the 965 doesn't have the rugged build, or built in flashlight... Though it's much cheaper. That really depends on your preference.
Garmin really needs a trade in program. I love my 955. There's no way I'm upgrading for a long time.

@@NavanirunzNow you can do that with Garmin! Latest update allows this!
Nice! hope you enjoy it!
OUTSTANDING VIDEO, EXPLANATION. Charismatic and objetive guy! Thanks from Brazil!
Awesome video, thank you. I am watching this video in June 2024 and hoping Fenix 8 is on the way soon.
It is
Nice Review. I'd like the 51 for the battery life but will probably go with the 47.
Love that you’re the first review up! Thanks a ton!!!
Buying one, want it for sailing manly, so looking at the epic pro. gps, weather over lay, battery life 51mm, speed on the water.
Good video 👍🏻
Got the 7x Solar yesterday for 20% off. Really happy with it.
Nice! That's a great price too!
Finally a 51mm Epix! I already ordered mine.
Dave, I feel this is a kind of closure, because I bumped into your channel in the beginning of 2022 while searching for Epix Gen 2 reviews before buying it, and I immidiately became a fan ❤
Back then, I really struggles with the decision of Epix vs the 7X. I wanted the bigger screen, but eventually the AMOLED screen broke me. And now, finally! No more struggling!
Awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
Oh, thanks for the excellent detailed review. I was waiting for one of you outstanding reviewers I follow to review this, and from my perch in Munich, Germany, I believe you are the first! Nice work.😊
I have the Epix 2 Sapphire and was wondering if I should upgrade, but I think after viewing your review, I won't.
Cheers!
It’s not simular, it doesn’t even compete.
Fenix is always one. Epix set to always on has like 10-12 days of battery life
Fenix is more than double
Another awesome review mate thanks
i have fenix 7 pro snd it is realy good for sports and battery last 20 dsys no problem
Great review, beyond the doubt Garmin has a flavor for every taste and every pocket. Thanks, Dave.
Garmin is creating specs Freaks out of us. Thanks for the clip! Appreciate it, will watch 35 more videos to take that hard decision of choosing one of 2 watches based on tiny but essential differences
colour me excited!! An epix pro 7S-shaped birthday present for myself I think
I tried the Fenix 7x Pro for a week. Liked it but didn't love it especially for the price. In that same week it went on sale. So I actually swapped it for the Epix gen2 Pro. Now this watch feels well worth the price and the Amoled screen is way nicer!
Try to look at Amoled display again when you weared Polaroid sunglasses.
Great video Dave! Loving my Epix2 sapphire with titanium band for about 8 months now - the flashlight isn’t enough reason enough to consider upgrading, and I’m always using a Polar HR sensor with it other than on a hike.
Can you use it as a Bike computer? I've seen mentions that it's not possible because the amoled screen goes dark when not touching skin
My friend , does it work Spotify on your epix 2 ?
@@PedroPrego I use it all winter as a bike computer because my Edge 530 won’t work below minus 15* Celsius.

I like my Fenix 6 Sapphire but couldn't resist the Amoled and ordered an Epix Pro 51mm to max out the screen size and battery life.
The new 51mm Epix seems to be the most interesting among all . Crazy battery life for an oled display.
Yeah…but it’s 51mm
For an every day carry watch. It’s pretty huge for most ppl
How long are you getting on the battery?

Id also love to see a "buggy running" activity profile...👌🏻
The beta firmware currently unreleased is the same as the new Pro models....so very likely that the features will cascade to existing F7 models.
whoever that tattoo is for, much love to you brother! sorry for your loss
They got approval and activated EKG for the pro models now. The hardware was there already.
Love it ! the only thing I miss on my Garmin is a bit more compatibility with the iPhone that's it ! , it might take 20 years before the Apple Watch gets 2 weeks of battery life 😂 trust me I use them too
I cannot use the "fnd my phone" feature on the Iphone from Garmin most of the time for some reason. Rarely works.

@@ChaseTheSummit Appreciate the insight. Thanks!
@@ChaseTheSummit I really hope you are right as Epix Pro 51mm is too big and heavy for 24/7 wear in my case.
Honest question: can you see the Fenix 7 Pro in the dark without the backlight? Could make the difference in whether I buy the Fenix Pro or the Epix Pro, especially with the $200 off holiday sales now. I have the Apple Watch ultra but its display is really the only thing I like about it …
What did u end up getting?
Very excited for the Epix Pro, currently have Fenix 6X Pro and a Coros Vertix 2. I will take the plunge and get myself the Epix Pro. Very happy to see all the updates they provided for the Epix Pro and Fenix Pro. Great video and information.
I'm running the 6X Pro as well, still an awesome rock solid device... but both the 7 Pro and Epix Pro are some really juicy carrots aren't they
Great helpful review, thanks Dave!!
127k subs!!! You are doing it!

Great review. Helped alot!
HejHej Dave, super helpful Video. I love your Chanel.
One question
Where have you found the backup and restore Option? I have an 51mm epix pro and can not found this option
Thanks for your help
Excellent review, thanks! I'm currently an Epix 2 user, generally happy. However, I've seen several instances of the "cadence lock" effect on HR, seems like this is a common problem. Do you know whether Garmin has fixed this by updating the HR sensor hardware on the back of the watch?
THX for this VDO. Is it possible to measure blood pressure with one of them? If so, with what accuracy?
Nope, blood pressure is still a tricky one for a watch to detect without some sort of air filled sleeve. However, there's new technology on the horizon that can detect it via a light so we may see that change in coming years.
@@ChaseTheSummit ok, thank you for this very quick reply
Got the email from PlayBetter to preorder and I knew right where to go to find a video on it! Thank you sir!

Love your reviews. My favs. Garmin or Apple Ultra. And for what reasons. In your opinion. Thanks
My wrist is 16.5cm in circumference. Hope that helps!
16.5 cm = 6.49 inches
I just placed a order for the Epix Pro 51mm
Thanks for the video! Am i seeing right the sensor on the back similar to the venu 2 plus with ECG function? Is that the case?
I really like the MiP so I've gone for an F7 Pro. Excellent sales on at the moment due to the imminent release of the F8.
Great video! Does this series have the right hardware to be able to use the new ECG feature do you know? Looks like it does to me!
The metal ring around the optical sensor certainly looks that way but when I asked Garmin they made no promises or shared any plans. Time will tell but I suspect we’ll eventually get it.
Really great Video!!! I have one question left:
Do the new PRO watches have ECG measurement function and LTE?
Surprisingly no ECG at launch but I suspect it will come via firmware. The HR sensor appears to support it but the software isn't there yet.
If I am not mistaken, you promised an in depth review of the FR 965. Maybe include the direct comparison to the Epix Pro as well. Rumor has it I want to buy one of them but cannot decide ;)
on the same boat
Torn between the forerunner 965 or just jumping up to the fenix pro now
Thnx for the video! How would you compare the Enduro 2 to the new lineup?
I'm waiting for my Fenix 7x Saphire to be delivered and I just finished watching this presentation. I really like the RED SHIFT feature, but it is not on the Fenix model. Almost makes me want me to reorder the Epix and return the Fenix (unopened). How do I register a future upgrade request with Garmin, and is such a request something they will consider if there is enough interest from the user community?
This is great. Thanks Dave. The geek in me loves that red shift 😂
I am glad Garmin Dave’s me $1000 his year ❤
I noticed that I can’t choose the epix pro 2 in a 51mm sapphire option, is it not an option?
Yes it is an option, that’s what I have. It’s likely not on the website yet.
@@ChaseTheSummit thank you for the quick response! I appreciate you Dave!
Hey my friend, thanks for your awesome review, been hearing there's issues with Fenix 7 compass, have you experienced anything?
Hope the 965 will get some updates too. Shame it was released without the new HR-sensor, was about to buy one within the next few months.
The Enduro 2 needs this display as well. The Enduro 2 is the perfect "Fenix" watch all it needed was a better backlit screen.
If, u want a 51mm watch
Great video. I note that you are using non-Salomon drink bottles. I have a gripe with mine that they leak easily and can't be fixed closed easily. Could you let me know which ones you are using as they appear to have switches on them, cheers.
Haha yep. I use camelbak quick draw bottles. They’re so much better!
Excellent video, Dave!! Very helpful!! Any comments on Saphire glass clarity/brightness when indoors and outdoors between EPIX AMOLED and FENIX MIP?
Kind of a toss up. They both have advantages in different lighting conditions. Fenix is still easier on the eyes in blaring direct sunlight while the Epix can get a little hard to read. However in just about every other situation I prefer the Epix.
I have the EPIX 2, but I'm 60, so a larger screen is of great benefit. I was hoping that it would be 2000 nits like my Apple Watch Ultra. The EPIX 2 is harder to see in bright sunlight. Either way... You rock! You have a lot of enthusiasm in your YT vids.
Hi, Thanks for the review.
Do you think we will get this Hill Score and Endurance Score on our new garmin 965?
It's very likely
I just replaced my instinct tactical last fall with a 955 which is obsolete because of the 965 display. I was looking at the fenix 7 at the time and I am glad I didn’t make that investment, for now I will keep what I have as a year from now their will be a better version of what’s new always an you would be chasing it 26:33 26:33
None of these watches are obsolete. New versions will pop up but Garmin will continue to support older models for a very long time... In fact my original Fenix 1 from over 10 years ago still syncs with Garmin Connect.
Hey so y did you switch from instinct? Was it worth it? I like instinct 2x cuz of long battery life. Also, Do maps work if your phone is not with you?
Awesome awesome video. Best yet!
Stronger glass and more scratch resistant bezel...would that be it?😊
The video just reminded me that i had a flashlight on my 7X, Thanks 😂
I’m still using my Fenix 6X Pro not sure ready to upgrade quite yet😊
Quite fancy the one with the white/orange strap. Any idea how long these last until the white starts being…not so white over time?
Great video Dave!!!
Out of interest what size in mm(please!) Is your wrist? And does the FENIX 7X fit you fine?
Thanks! 16.5cm, Fenix 7X is a little big but I can pull it off.
@@ChaseTheSummit i believe mine is also 165mm - I just HATE to think that i have to take a "smaller" watch with less battery and other specs. So I will live with a big watch.
You have done a video on FENIX 7 vs Enduro 2 right? Those 2 are probs my favourites and choosing one is proving to be difficult man
@@pieterOD basically the same Watch. Only difference is the display technology and battery life! The choice is yours.
