Thanks for your efforts. You didn't talk about the lag of LTE. This is the only needed feature to be able to leave the phone at home. In a few month we will see the Fenix 8 Pro with LTE.
Great chat guys been subscribed to both of you for years. I just bought the Enduro 3, amazing watch. Upgrade from an Instinct 2X, which I loved. I'm really not use to the speed the Enduro 3 saves runs though after using a 2X for so long. Concerning the MIP display, it's fine in the UK as we rarely get sun! Big improvement over the Fenix 6 solar, which I had a few years back.
Hi, 38:45 are you trying to say the touch unlock feature is a new feature on the Fenix 8 but won't be included in firmware updates for older devices eg I have a Epix Gen 2 Pro and therefore won't get it?
Lots of great points here. I still think the new UI is the best marriage between the FR965 and the Epix Pro - making for a very enjoyable smartwatch experience. Lots of updates needed, though.
@@iMaxPatten Definitely - that seems to be the consensus around the horn. The watch feels like it's closer to 60fps versus the 24fps on the display of the Epix (just perception). That is a huge win. Makes me want to "use" the watch more. But, long ways to go. They clearly pushed this release out quickly to get in front of Apple's new device(s).
@@oxeneers yeah it’s a bummer I got mine launch day and it’s been a brick because of a firmware update that nuked the Bluetooth and wifi functionality. Garmin has no fix yet and I have been waiting on their support over Labor Day weekend
I‘m upgrading from a 6X sapphire to the Enduro 3 because of the flashlight. The 7X Pro Sapphire is currently 10% cheaper so it was a no brainer to get the enduro 3 for me. I‘m fine with MIP
Thanks guys. You are the best even without any compromise and never ever forgiving. The Enduro 3 looks to me as the way. Even in the history I love the Tactix the most. :)
I have Garmin Fenix 7X Pro. When deciding which to get, Fenix or Epix, I went with Fenix, because I just prefer MIP over AMOLED for rugged outdoor watch. Previously I was G-Shock user. I know AMOLED is great nowadays, battery last a while. But, just personal preference. When I decide to change watch, I'll probably go with Enduro. I don't need it, I'm not an ultra runner, but I run, trail run, hike, ride mtb, weight lift... Plus, due to hand size, I gotta go with 51mm, or else watch looks like a child's 😁 as I said, nothing against AMOLED, but just too bright and colourful for me. Regarding new lineup, there's nothing that would make me to upgrade to gen 8 from 7X Pro. I don't dive, and I don't need microphone and speaker on my watch. Actually, don't know what future iterations have to bring, to want to upgrade. Not sure does LTE looks interesting, not sure how will that work in my country and what plans would be available from my carrier. But 7X Pro is a damn capable watch! Great episode guys, and great reviews on your channels. And that trip in Spain was awesome, it seems. And you guys really go an extra mile (or should I say kilometre, since I'm European?) to present us with most accurate and in depth reviews.
I have the fenix 8 , i absolutely love this watch. Now the convenience to set a timer with voice comment is awesome. I have one complain, and that is the speaker, if that was louder it would be totally perfect 👌 thanks for the great review !
I have a question that I have not been able to get answers to... is the actual hardware updated from the Fenix7? Meaning SOC, processor, memory (speed, not necessarily capacity), etc?
Des did you not have gesture backlight enabled on enduro? I’ve had MIP display and didn’t have a problem seeing it in shade/night because I had gesture backlight on. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be able to see the screen in those conditions. Epix pro was ANNOYING. When I drive, I can’t read the screen. I had to give an exaggerated gesture to get the screen to go bright to read it, whereas with MIP, I could read it.
Ray said that you can turn off gesture on AMOLED but then you don't see seconds and all the info plus in sunlight it becomes unusable. Sorry but for some folks (including me) MIP will always be better and if they plan to drop it in Fenix series, they better have Enduro 3s.
Isn't the enduro also the perfect watch for us long trail hikers. The Wonderland's, JMT's, PCT's, etc.. audience is a perfect target for these. Thanks guys and hope you make an appearance back in Seattle some day Ray.
Unfortunately, I am a big fan of MIP, but I don't like what they did with the plastic body on the Enduro 3. I hope they don't kill off the MIP version of the Fenix going forward. Fortunately, the Fenix 7X Pro Sapphire is pretty much the perfect watch for me (although I'd prefer non solar). So that should cover me for many years
I do not know if the fenix 8 solar are that overpriced 😄 The solar is more effective and the screen is more visible than before! This is actual hardware innovation at least, the amoled version lacks that, or am i wrong? The enduro 3 is of course a great deal, however 51mm looks just huge and is not everyday wear compatible for everyone... Probably would look weird in the office
For me the deal breaker is the titanium lugs don't cover the composit lugs so if you happen to hit a door the plastic lug is going to take a beating. For me, I'm going 51 Fenix Sapphire Solar.
Great video from two of the very best. I’ve got the Fenix 8 43 mm and love it. The price is questionable though. I sold 2 older Garmin devices and managed to get a discount so wasn’t too much of a pinch. Would be great I Garmin could introduce trade in’s in the future. Where we get a partial refund when they receive our older device’. This would be a big sustainability tick for them. For future iterations I’d still like to see a slimmer watch for the 43mm and would be happy for the screen size to increase a little more for this. However, that said I 100 % agree about wanting a siren. Being a solo female runner it would give some kind of assurance or for when out on trails, if I was to fall in a place with limited or no reception etc.
Thanks for the great video. I am using the old Fenix 3 and have been waiting for the launch of the Fenix 8. Now I wonder if I should go for Fenix 8 Solar or Fenix 7 Pro?
If the new strength training features aren't brought to the Epix Pro 2 that'll be telling of how Garmin is going to treat customers going forward. It'll certainly make me consider whether I buy any further Garmin devices.
Great discussion. I was toying with an Enduro as a second watch but am not familiar with MIP. The point about MIP not having a real advantage anymore apart from improving on AMOLEDs already good battery just saved me cash
I didn't know these were already available in the stores. I ordered mine on Garmin last week and it says it won't ship for 2 to 3 weeks! Oh well...the anticipation is building!
I thought long to decide. In the end I got an Enduro 3 to replace my Fénix 5. The higher price for the Fénix 8 wasn't worth it. I would have preferred a Enduro 3 47mm.
Hi guys, you both are great! Thanks for all the videos! Do you recommend the Fenix 8 for someone that already has the Fenix 7 (not the pro)? Just wondering if it is worth upgrading
Made my day finding that this is now a podcast between these guys! Good review sirs! To each their own but it might be time to upgrade and relegate my Forerunner 920xt (the OG Square body trisports watch, which is still rocking as my daily!) to the tribars on my bike. I'm a guy with thick wrists but these watches are getting goofy big, hell, I'd do the 43mm if it could be configured in solar. I'm up in the air on F8 47mm colors though. The black is classic sleek and understated but the titanium (if switching out the yellow band) would also look good and not look like every other tactical/trisports watch bro that's out there. The amoled is beautiful but I'm thinking that the benefit of having to charge less often would be worth it with a solar version.
It’s true. PADI open water only allows dives down to around 18m and even the PADI advanced certification only goes to around 30m so you’re definitely getting pretty specialist if 40m isn’t deep enough for you. It’s not a typical depth for a recreational diver
Dont understand Garmins reason for no small MIP fenix... If there is not enough space for the solar panel - Then make it without... since when was solar panel a must for MIP displays? Strange..
I think solar will be making its way to the amoled versions before Fenix 9 appears. Also, like you say, I think Enduro 4 will continue with mips display in the foreseeable future, due to its priority of battery life (and I hope/think it will be also in smaller sizes).
Great conversation. I'm excited for the Fenix 8. Gonna go with an AMOLED for my upgrade from my Forerunner 945 but probably going to wait a couple months for Garmin to work out a few bugs and polish the new software a bit more. I'd maybe consider an Epix on sale this holiday if it got the new OS/UI. That's important to me to be able to wear it as a daily wear watch and not just during activities.
One thing people seem to overlook whenever comparing the AWU and Garmin is how much more you get from Garmin with the price of admission. Yes, the AWU is a wonderful device but you need to buy or subscribe to apps to get what you get for "free" from Garmin. This diving discussion is a perfect example.
Thanks for this video, you guys are amazing....👍👍👍 I like the MIP display better, So I guess my last fenix watch will be the 7x pro, and will keep going with the enduro series. Like one of you said, I just don´t like a phone on my arm - I like the rugged - hard to kill look... 💪💪💪
I just bought a Venu 3 at 30% off. I could not justify the price of the Fenix 8 with so few new features. I do really like the style and robustness of the Fenix though. Will re-evaluate when the next version comes out in 1 to 2 years, I can't imagine how they will improve on the 8.
Great collab haven't really been in this segment in Years have a pair of Garmin Quatix lying around somewhere as was hoping to try out there auto docking feature for Boats maybe 5 Years ago but that never panned out still love the watch tho but yes came back here because i remembered that September is "GoPro Launch Month" and thought i would check in as have ancient gopros lying around that i used to mount on my parent's dog Ted sadly deceased now but he was the best camerman i ever worked with and very socialable but yes thought maybe GoPro had something going on as is Apple back to school crazy depressing equity downers so was very much shocked to see GoPro deliver pretty much everything for the first time i can ever remeber as a product launch then saw Garmin which as a business has actually been the business for Garmin so was amazed to see these Garmin devices validating well as well so yes huge fan of competition but collab where it's at fir top shelf content and both and the products here check all the boxes😊
Do you think they will fix the glitches and make the OS run more smoothly? Curious if this is an OS issue or a processor issue. I want to get the Fenix 8, but I’m seeing a lot of reviewers complaining about the glitches in the OS, so I’m nervous.
If its about diving in Spain, next time check out Cabo de Palos in Murcia (south east of the country), it is unique in the Mediterranean see. The area is also great fro biking. See ya👌🏼
I would say giving Garmin credit that when the Fenix 7 came out in Jan 2022 look at all the added features over two years. I bet from the original day they introduced 50 new features. The down side to the new Fenix is it seems like they just were not finished yet and wanted to throw it out and they had 2 1-2 years to get this thing ready
Thank you always for the content. I think Garmin is doing a fantastic job and hopefully they continue the push. To have a pretty full dive function and all the other functions and battery life on a single watch is amazing. Maybe showing my age, but as a kid I could not figure why I was unable to get the money, my money, from my bank account on a Saturday afternoon or Sunday. My mom swears they invented ATMs because of me -- and now of course I can use my money from my watch. My point is, for my age group, these watches are finally hitting the marks that we have always dreamed of, so the prices do not seem that out of place (compare a Rolex that shows the time and date for $20k --- ?????? WTHeck). Anyway, Amazing times!!
None ever mention this advantage MIP over amoled - but this is a breaker for me : In certain situation I like to see seconds on my watch face without moving a hand, without any gestures. Impossible with amole. Also like to use watch for display some data in bikes handlebar. Impossible with amoled.
I am considering purchasing the product, but only after the ECG feature is released for Europe as well. I previously owned the Venue 3, and there were rumors that the feature would be available in Europe, but that did not occur. Therefore, I will wait and refrain from purchasing another Garmin product until all features available in the US are also released in the EU. 🇪🇺⌚️
Well, I am a die-hard Garmin fanboy. I have always bought the latest and greatest Fenix/Tactix since the Tactix Bravo series... However, I have to admit that this is the first time that I feel that the new model would be a waste of money.... I currently own a Fenix 7 pro and I have to admit that the latest model doesn't offer anything that I don't already have. The MIP screen is a must for me as I usually go on multi-day events such as sailing, hiking or cycling... The Fenix 7 pro already has the 5th heart rate sensor, so that's something I already have. The microphone is completely unnecessary for me. I also appreciate the more mature, more reliable firmware (I used to test betas but there was far too much unnecessary frustration and wasted battery cycles...). So Garmin has made my life easier this time around, because I can't see any advantage with this model compared to my Fenix 7 pro... Maybe the Enduro 3 would be grate however I switched back to the 47mm case size because I feel more comfortable for daily driver.
Hi guys, I bought a Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar Edition and then the Fenix 7X Pro was released. I was a bit annoyed because they improved the optical reader and it is very important. With the new Fenix 8 I have been disappointed because there is no improvement for my needs (the AMOLED screen is not important to me, neither are the diving options, I would not use the microphone and speaker, etc.) I hope Garmin has not reached the technological peak of Fenix. I will wait for Garmin to do something more innovative and launch a new Fenix on the market
Hey guys thanks a lot of this coverage . You both are my fav UA-camrs when it comes to sport tech. Please if possible make a video comparing the fénix 8 solar vs oled . There is no shop here in the Netherlands when I can play with both in hand.

Thanks for your efforts. You didn't talk about the lag of LTE. This is the only needed feature to be able to leave the phone at home. In a few month we will see the Fenix 8 Pro with LTE.
@@EV_Jojo if by a “few” you mean 12, I’d prob agree though they haven’t do far and I think we all thought we’d have it by now.
Correct.
Lots of great points here. I still think the new UI is the best marriage between the FR965 and the Epix Pro - making for a very enjoyable smartwatch experience. Lots of updates needed, though.
They feel a little unfinished at the moment
@@iMaxPatten Ooh! Maybe I saw your post on Reddit? Big bummer man, really sorry to hear that :( Fuck
I currently own the Fenix 7 sapphire solar and I‘m happy. The 8 lineup doesn’t look too exciting to me.
Thanks to u, pleasure to hear from u both 🎉
Thanks so much!
❤ great to see you together 🤙🏻🍻🤗
🙌🙌
Came here for the Fenix E content. Was not disappointed! 😂 Thanks, gentlemen.
Just got the enduro 3 (my first garmin)
How are you liking it? I have been on the fence of buying my first garmin with the enduro 3, but the price is kinda keeping me from taking the leap.
Great podcast… you covered garmin diving part very well
I have a question that I have not been able to get answers to... is the actual hardware updated from the Fenix7? Meaning SOC, processor, memory (speed, not necessarily capacity), etc?
Good question!
It doesn't seem so
Garmin need to do a trade-in scheme
I'd upgrade more often.
Liking this regular Collab. Didn't know about it
Isn't the enduro also the perfect watch for us long trail hikers. The Wonderland's, JMT's, PCT's, etc.. audience is a perfect target for these. Thanks guys and hope you make an appearance back in Seattle some day Ray.
As I fenix 5 titanium user I think is time I am leaning towards the solar smaller one
Two Watch Legends together. Love this guys !
Thanks!!
Great podcast. So much more nuance to it than i first thought..
Thanks Paul!
Decent mk3 is the same exact price as the fenix 8 here in Australia at $1860, which is about $1300usd.
So that should cover me for many years
The only feature I wish they back ported to the epix2 is four iq connect data fields, this would be a game changer
You guys are incredible thank you so much 🙏
Thanks!
For me the deal breaker is the titanium lugs don't cover the composit lugs so if you happen to hit a door the plastic lug is going to take a beating. For me, I'm going 51 Fenix Sapphire Solar.
Great review as always. Reminds me that I have to renew my membership on Ray’s website! 👍🏻
Do it! (Des)
Awesome podcast guys! You should invite Chase the Summit to be part of your podcast. Another opinion would be a great addition.
And matlegr too
Please don’t
Yup, I went to the Fenix 7 Standard Edition, from Fenix 3. Totally satisfied with Fenix 7! But OLED does look sweet!
I wish there were some comparisons of the amoled and mips useability/visibility under water.
We need to stop talking about going deeper than 40 meters diving. So few divers are going more than 130 feet.
It’s true. PADI open water only allows dives down to around 18m and even the PADI advanced certification only goes to around 30m so you’re definitely getting pretty specialist if 40m isn’t deep enough for you. It’s not a typical depth for a recreational diver
@DesFit welcome to europe. :) You will love Madeira as well.
On my list!
Porto Moniz "Levadas walk" in the mountains, in particular. :-)
@@charltheron2769 I done Levadas walk and end of day I was so tired and feeled so happy about everything.
Dont understand Garmins reason for no small MIP fenix... If there is not enough space for the solar panel - Then make it without... since when was solar panel a must for MIP displays? Strange..
I liked the market pricing strategy talk, would love to hear more about when the best times to buy these watches is
I think solar will be making its way to the amoled versions before Fenix 9 appears.
Also, like you say, I think Enduro 4 will continue with mips display in the foreseeable future, due to its priority of battery life (and I hope/think it will be also in smaller sizes).
I like these round ups with a bit more behind the scenes info
🙌
Had Enduro 1 and got a 2 ... And to me not having charge for a month+ is more important that twickerly light display 🤯
Are you guys finally addressing all the scratches on the watch in this video? Why does the watch scratch so easily Or garmin paying for that?
Exactly, every review I saw fetured pretty serious scratches. If its so easy to scratch, I am afraid mine would look disgusting in few months..
Really enjoyed this lads ❤
Thanks man!

Epix gen2 non pro version is on sale already in H Samuel for £324. In UK. I can not wait for Black Friday as I just sold my Fenix 7.
Did you have the chance to test what is the difference in visibility of MIP and AMOLED while diving?
My biggest complaint if my older remix watches was the volume of the alarm and vibration were so weak. I use my Apple Watch alarms all the time.
My lord I wish the Enduro 3 had a speaker 😩 for calls and text. Enduro definitely should’ve had a siren this year. Thanks
Impossible with amoled.
enduro 3 also has a thinner bezel, so it just looks better.
Hey! I never realized Mr. Rainmaker doesn't blink when he's listening to someone speak! 😂
Guys, what's your take on potential new Garmin Forerunner models? When do you expect one and what features would you put your bets on?
Like the Bolder Boulder shirt . . .
Hi guys,
I bought a Fenix 7X Sapphire Solar Edition and then the Fenix 7X Pro was released. I was a bit annoyed because they improved the optical reader and it is very important. With the new Fenix 8 I have been disappointed because there is no improvement for my needs (the AMOLED screen is not important to me, neither are the diving options, I would not use the microphone and speaker, etc.)
I hope Garmin has not reached the technological peak of Fenix.
Yup, content surrounding that coming soon 👍
Is it an official Garmin nylon strap at 0:30min?
1) is Garmin filnally using internal sensors to stop "gps floating" when stationary? 2) does enduro3/fenix8 inform you that you forgot to click START on start of the run/bike like edge computers? 3) will enduro 3 get same updates as fenix 8 series?
I’m coming from an Apple Watch Ultra, I Recently bought a Enduro 3 from Amazon. I hope I won’t regret this purchase for fitness monitoring, since my last experience with Garmin App was a little bit crappy. Any thoughts out there?
I feel like the Fenix E it's just an Epix 2 with new UI and all the software updates to come in the next 2+ years. We all know that as we get further from the release date the updates will get less and less frequent.
