Matt LeGrand - the sports tech/triathlete UA-camr with b-roll and intros just as good (or even better) than some dedicated camera UA-cam channels. You've outdone yourself once again. Amazing video work and content, Matt! 🙌
Dude, you are too kind. I always look at these after the fact and think “Mehh, it’s got potential 🤷🏻♂️” which is kind of what you tell kids when they’re not that great at soccer. 😂 I’ll keep working on it.
Bought Epix 2 two weeks ago.. At first was hard to decide between Epix or Fenix. But I love Epix 2 from day one, no doubts that I made the right choice. Awesome watch
What phone do you have? iPhone? I plan to buy one but my major concern is how it works with Apple ecosystem. Those little things like Apple Music, volume adjustment via Apple Watch etc
@@vandrosiaI had have the Apple Watch and as you know it’s charging daily . It’s the series 7 and 13mth old and battery health is at 94% so if in charging my epix 2 every 14-16 days as I turn AOD off then it should last years before it deteriorates and then I will trade in for the newer model.
Couldn’t find “Epix Gen 2- After 100 days” video. I just find your videos so relaxing. Those intros, production quality. Nice way to spend “Me Time” after work :)
Thanks for mentioning the watch pins ! That ended up being kind of an issue for me with my Epix, I had to get them cut off at a Watch shop so that I could put regular spring pins in and use my collection of vinyl straps, instead of having to buy all new very limited availability quick release straps.
Great video. Love my Epix 2. Gesture mode is fine, I don't need a display "always on" when I am not looking at it. Also if you cover the screen with your palm, this will go back to the watch face in whatever screen your are viewing. An Epix 2 X would be even better (with the cool flash light from the Fenix 7X)
Great feedback Namits! I have found myself using the display flash light on the Epix. A flash light on a watch actually makes a ton of sense. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
The Epix Gen 2 is a GREAT watch. Garmin is getting it right. I'm a Fenix user back to the very first Fenix and up through the 5X plus sapphire. I wanted the Epix 2's just slightly smaller dimensions. It's proving to have has everything to be a total winner.
Thanks for posting your feedback Dave! I 100% agree. I'm really enjoying the Epix right now and I love the update with the morning report that recently dropped on this device. Great watch option for people. 👍
As a cyclist and avid golfer I have had some issues with the Epix battery life. I have had both the Feni 7X Titanium and the Epix Titanium watches. Both are great devices but it comes down to battery life for me. As a retired “masters athlete” with a lot of time on my hands, I found is that if you are an avid golfer who plays 4-5 days per week, the Epix only lasts for 4 rounds or about 16 hours-17 hours. Garmin’ s GPS metrics is based on running, cycling, etc. for typical GPS usage and gets their numbers under those use scenarios. Golf uses way more battery life as the constant mapping changes as you go from hole to hole requires much more battery usage. I confirmed this with Garmin as I initially thought there was something wrong with my Epix battery. So, if you plan on using this device for golf and play multiple times per week, and do outdoor cycling or running, plan on charging the Epix every 4 days or so. On the other hand, my Fenix 7X can get about 12 golf rounds in and probably more with Solar if you live somewhere with a lot of sun, like me. Just wanted to let everyone know about this unique wrinkle for anyone playing a lot of golf. Hope it help out some folks on the fence deciding which watch to get.
This is really good feedback for people to read. Golf is one thing I haven't tested with this watch. Thanks so much for taking the time to write this up for people curious about the effects on battery life!
Matt LeGrand is the king of cinematography👑 !! Amazing job man! If I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I will definitely try to convince you to get a workshop ;-)
I would love to film something with you some day. That would be so much fun! I am mentioning you and your channel in an upcoming Oura ring video. I’ve liked they different analytics that they show when it comes to sleep data even if it isn’t all that accurate. I did end up returning the product. (Or at least I’m trying to now)
@@mlegrand Looking forward to it! Yep the Oura Ring 💍 has many good but also some bad qualities (and it is definitely more a health tracker than a fitness tracker)
Great job on an honest easy to follow video! Quite a lot of information on a very easy to follow and understand format. Awesome video shots on introduction and in use scenes. This watch seems to be very hard to get, maybe due to such good reviews, including yours, out there. I am eagerly waiting for mine to arrive. Thank you again for the hard work and objective review!
Yeah, it took me a while to get ahold of one and then a little time to have enough information to review the watch. I'm still wearing it and it's really been an excellent watch now after 2 months or so. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great review. Helped me to decide to get an Epix 2 stainless steel - couldn't justify spending more on a watch than my smartphone. Great phone and connect app. Only issue is that I find the sleep results way off for me, probably because I move a lot around during my sleep.
Returned it and bought a Fenix 7 Sapphire, because of battery and solar . It is good for an Amoled but I want to keep it for years and battery decreases by time
My plan is to have both so I can compare that Fenix 7 to this one. Right now, I'm just having a hard time getting a hold of one. Thanks for passing along your feedback for people. I think it'll really help as people are trying to figure this stuff out. 👌
Thats exactly my opinion. As a Fenix 5 owner, after 4 years I did not noticed huge battery drain. I still charge my watch every 2 weeks 😊. I think Epix after 2 years will be big pain in your eyes for 1.000€. Battery life and dead pixels.
@@PetoGee Well an Apple watch has 18h battery life and doesn’t seem to be a pain in the butt for the majority. An Epix has even 10 days of battery life so that’s perfect for 99.9% of people for sure. Including me. I love my new Epix 2 😊
Wow, your lighting and cinematography are incredible! I’ve been watching UA-cam running tech reviews since they first became a “thing” and the quality of your production is BY FAR the best! Subscribed!!!
Wow, thank you so much Running Otaku! I have a lot of fun stuff coming up albeit cycling/swimming stuff as well as running but maybe something in here will be of interest. Let me know if you want anything in particular!
@@mlegrand Just an idea- most reviewers cover the features/specs, but it’s rare for anyone to talk about user experience in a meaningful way-how much of an over exaggeration does it take to flick the AMOLED screen on?, what’s it really like to use a structured workout on the watch?, how good are the audio splits so you don’t even need to look at the watch?, which features were too difficult to use/interpret? Etc.
Nice coverage. I still prefer the 7(x) for battery life. The Epix seems like a special SKU. Also, I’d rather wait for FR955 especially at $1k price. It’s an interesting new variant with the display. But doesn’t really seem like something I’d replace my FR945LTE with.
Good call. I am really looking forward to seeing what that 955 has to offer. Could be interesting. These are also significantly heavier than a 945LTE. So it's interesting to think which watch ends up being the best triathlon watch from Garmin. 🤷♂️
I have the 6X solar. I have had the band break off at the spring loaded pins, twice! The band that I was using at the time is the super comfortable Garmin Enduro band.
Very interesting. That's really good to know. I would be curious if the wider 26mm bands had a harder time with those spring loaded pins. I guess only Garmin knows. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Wow… I have watched a lot of tech reviews (amongst other things) on UA-cam through the years, but this video really contains some stellar editing and shots… Respect - and thanks! 👌🏻🙌🏻
Wow, that is so nice of you to say Patrick! I have some fun stuff coming up but let me know if there is ever anything in particular you'd like to see more of. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Would be nice to see a face-off comparison between the Epix 2 and the Epix 2 Pro, I'm on the fence between these two if it'd be worth going for the upgraded HR sensor v5 on the Pro
I think the part that is surprisingly helpful is the built in flashlight on the Garmin Epix Pro. But I've see a lot of sales on the Epix gen 2. So I guess it comes down to each of our own price sensitivities. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Unfortunately, I don’t own that one. Maybe tell Garmin that my channel is Amazing and they’ll want me to review another watch. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Looking for an all-around fitness watch. Was looking not to spend big bucks. Would you consider the Epix gen 2 outdated in 2024? Probably will hold onto it for a little while, but would eventually upgrade. Thanks again! Always appreciate your help.
I think it's an awesome watch. I think there are some mega deals on this watch right now also. I don't think it's outdated but I Garmin will mostly focus updates on it's brand new Fenix 8 stuff. 🤷🏻♂️ amzn.to/3A47fls
I’m sending my Epix Titan back, i’ll go with the 7 Titan Solar. If i want a really good screen i got the AW7, for Sport i prefer a functional Watch. The Epix is great but always on display really hurts the battery. With pulse Ox at night i only got 4 days of battery life with AOD.
This X1000%. There hasn’t been one UA-camr (at least any that I’ve listened to) that has shined a light on the battery with Pulse Ox on. They typically just say you don’t need that function. The sensor is on it it may as well be used. A more accurate description would be the Epix gets maybe 4 days of use with all metrics measured. My 7XSS does about 10/12 with my usage and the pulse ox always on.
Yeah, sounds reasonable. PulseOx always seems to kill the battery. When it was first released (945 maybe?) Garmin would have it on by default and it would kill the battery. Now it’s off by default on most of their devices if I remember correctly. You’ll have to let me know what you think about the Fenix 7. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@thewildman4300 Yes, you’re right. Only using it « at night while sleeping ». Could detect C19 two times with it (drop from 96% to 92% four days before symptoms) before Body Battery would show high Stress. So it makes sense for me at least.
I use Ox at night and get 10 days. I use the watch to track my sport 5 days a week. I don’t have the always on display "on" as I don’t have my TV on either if I’m not watching.
@@TurreTuntematon - sounds about right. Garmin claims 14-16 days in gesture mode without pulseox and you’re seeing 10 with it on. Thanks for the feedback. 👌
I find the size perfect on my larger wrist. Great sports watch. Use the phone to help set it all up and to sync it. Then use the PC to display the graphs with overlays that not even the phone does as well as the PC.
Yeah, Garmin Connect has some pretty powerful options. Exporting that .fit file allows you to put that data anywhere if you want to try other charting options. Best of luck and keep me posted on what you figure out. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
You don't need to remove the strap pins to swap a strap, simply turn the watch around, and pull down on the button on each strap and pull them off. It's a 5 second moment. Have the Epix2. Its screen makes the Fenix 7 screen look like a kids toy watch.
Yeah, those quick release straps are pretty cool. I unsnapped a strap super quick in this video so I could better show those pins. It shouldn’t be too often that you need those pins out but it’s weird that you can’t take them out now. I think people take them out for special straps or for the triathlon quick release system. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
They are hard to find but honestly, so far, best swimming watch I've ever owned. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Have been using Garmin devices for about 8 years, after having been a Polar ambassador for years before that - prior to my Epix I’d been using a Fenix 6 Pro Solar. I’ll be turning 60 this year and the screen on the Epix is truly awesome and amazing. Yes the F6 was/is very solid but I couldn’t be anymore pleased with my Epix than I am, after having it since February. It’s like any other technology - once you jump to the next level (in this case, AMOLED) you really won’t go back. Only charge the thing about once a week and that’s MORE than enough for me. Yes I know the hardcore Fenix purists like to boast about years between charging haha, but that’s not me. Tossing it on the charger every 4/5/6 days is completely fine with me. The benefits of screen readability by FAR is worth it. Great review and have subscribed to the channel. 👍🏻
Thanks so much for subscribing Neil! Keep me posted on what types of videos you'd want to see. I want to mix in more than just sports tech videos in here even if they're far less popular. I'm still wearing this Epix a lot. I love the screen and agree that the extra charging isn't too bad. Thanks again!
The Epix 2 is a great watch for those that don't mind charging it between tv shows. Those who spend many hours outdoors will probably prefer the Fenix 7.
I wish Garmin had an upgrade option. I bought the fenix 6 not too long ago, but now this epix looks fantastic. How does a guy upgrade? Maybe eBay the old one?…
I prefer Always on D. but with gestures off. Then the display is dimmed for most the time but still more shines that Fenix with screen light on. And I can activate more brightness just with one button click or touch screen.
Yes, I agree. Seems like the way to go. I can imagine changing the settings if I was traveling for a few weeks or doing some sort of different adventure but for now, I'm happy with always on display. Thank you for all of the support on this channel. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi dear! I ask for a suggest! If I find online at the same price of about 550€ the latest forerunner 965 and the epix gen 2 sapphire which one of them do you think is the best (or the more convenient) ? Thanks a lot for the answer and for your amazing rewievs! ;-)
I would probably snag the Epix Gen 2. It’s at a bigger discount and does all the same stuff the 964 would do but is built of more durable materials. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
No idea when Garmin would release something like that. I'm hearing rumors of a larger AMOLED Apple Watch for the fall but Garmin doesn't really tell me what they're working on. Thanks for the kind words Doniyorbek!
Unfortunately not. I find it very odd that these pins don’t have a spring any more. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Welcome back! I was just about to chop this thing off. I'm always changing it up. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
It really did surprise me. I didn't think I'd like the AMOLED. I just figured it'd be too bright and annoying. There are other brands that I own with AMOLED screens that don't quite do it right. 😬
Out of the box the watch will be in always on mode and the ‘raise to wake’ makes the screen brighter. You can switch it screen off with ‘raise to wake’ turning the screen on. Having screen in that mode takes battery from about 7 days to 17 depending on usage. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Yeah, that would be interesting to see. What’s nice about ECG on your watch is testing *when you start feeling something abnormal. I’m not sure how helpful all of the normal ECG readings are. And I don’t always wear a chest strap.
In the swimming mode Garmin Epix 2 misses in average 25 meters on the 200 miters distance . How can the measurement accuracy be improved? Reset settings - did not help, perhaps the Epix 2 is non for swimming ...
Hi Andrey, I’ve swam many 200 meter sets with this watch and haven’t had many issues. Just normal freestyle swimming? Or are you mixing in any different strokes?
absolutely love my epix saphire... I can honestly say I would have been dissapointed had I opted for the Fenix 7 because the display on the Epix is worth every cent. I was worried about battery, I needn't have... I charge it maybe once or twice a week - it lasts multiple activities with even getting close to running out
Yeah, that sounds similar to me. Once or twice a week. It's a solid option and I like this screen a lot more than I thought I would. Thanks so much Chris!
I still really really like it. That brighter screen is a bit easier to glance at when working out. I do want to get the Fenix 7 as a comparison but that's an expensive video idea. 😂 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Does the data regarding the battery life include when the watch is connected via bluetooth with a smartphone? Also is the epix viable for swimming in open waters (ocean, river, lake)?
Yeah, I have had this watch connected to a smart phone for my testing and the battery life seems solid. This watch should be ok for open water swimming. Ocean, lakes and rivers but I haven’t tested that just yet. Soon. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I still like the Epix a lot. Might be my favorite watch but I really enjoy the 955/255's morning report. Seems like Garmin should have moved that software over to the Epix/Fenix watches by this point. I really should work on some sort of 6 month review of this watch. I love doubling back on products and talking about them after they've had some more miles. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I’m testing out an Epix 2 currently, myself. I agree that it’s a great watch and I’m enjoying the overall experience…BUT…the price. At $1000 I just have a tough time swallowing the pill. Is it great? Yes. Is the screen right up there with my Apple Watch 7? Also yes. But at the price, it lingers in the back of your mind and I find myself wondering what use I’m really getting for 1K. I ‘do’ believe this is the future of Garmin in AMOLED displays, but they need to find a way to bring the pricing down. This one will more than likely go back and it’ll be back to my AW7 to see what’s next for Garmin. I’m hoping the 955 or 255 come in at a more reasonable price, especially with what companies like Coros are doing with overall value and pricing.
Great point. Interesting that you mentioned the AW7. It’s $400 which lots of people feel is still too pricey but then we start looking at these high end Garmin watches and it’s in an entirely new league of pricing. 🤦♂️
The people buys the watch for 1000 dollar, that’s why it’s so expensive. It’s basically the same screen as the venu2 series. Its overpriced compared to the Fenix 7XSS. With the Epix you get a smaller watch, no torch, no solar for the same prize tag. An smartwatch screen isn’t expensive at all. Just garmin prizes
I mean if you buy the SS Apple Watch with sapphire lens you are looking at $700 vs the 999 for epix so the cost is closer. Now take the every year release of the Apple Watch to the two year release of the fenix/garmin and you are at $1400 for apple vs the 999 of garmin. I’m thinking of keeping the fenix 7x and getting a cheap used Apple Watch for the pretty screen and apple fitness but idk
@@braddavister137 good point! Funny, I feel like with Garmin watches the only option I would go with would be the sapphire lens. However, with Apple Watch I’ve only ever purchased the aluminum versions and have had no issues with durability. But that’s also probably because of 3rd party accessories, like screen protectors and cases, being so widely available so there are cheap options for greater protection. Regardless, two different target audiences as we all know. I’ve never felt the need to upgrade yearly with AW, but know the option is there, should I choose. Garmin pushes out new updates as well, but hardware-wise it’s about a 2 year cycle. If another watch comes out with a new hardware feature from a different Garmin line, you’re stuck unless you decide to switch. A good example is the Venu 2+ getting a speaker and voice calls, meanwhile the Fenix/Epix lack this. Your choice to do both is what many have decided to do! Not a bad one.
I have the epix and a fenix both in black titanium. Anyone notice the epix is not black like the fenix 7? Like it’s definitely carbon. I confirmed I have the black titanium version epix. The fenix 7 version is definitely black. I’m definitely undecided on my epix. I go back and forth. I’m coming from a tactix delta, which looked great to me. Although I found it too heavy for runs honestly but you get used to it. My back button on the epix is trash. Idk if it’s gonna become an issue. The pushes feel very strange and the clicks sound cheap. For the people who don’t have one yet. The touch screen is amazing though. I like the ability to hit spots on the main screen taking you to whatever like your last activity.
That back button might worry me a bit. It should feel just like the others. Could be a very slight manufacturing defect or something. I’ll be very curious to see what you finally end up with. I’m planning on getting the Fenix also to compare. It’s just taking awhile to get ahold of one. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand I was going to exchange but I just returned the epix today. Not for me. Says black titanium but isn’t. The thing is gray for sure. The back button has issues on mine and Garmin told me if the button works it’s fine. I’m telling you it feels like it gets stuck or will. The clicks are strange and it feels like it stays depressed if you do multiple clicks. My last watch the tactix delta and current 7ss don’t do this. I’ll probably stick with my 7ss or get the black titanium 7xss. I will ditch and sell them all when the new tactix echo comes lol. I’m sure over time the epix will be the watch to have especially when it rolls out with the next one or all the sizes. I’d probably like to see more adjustability on the brightness for the epix and AOD make it past ten days. It’s really a nice watch though. I also think solar should be included even if it hardly does anything. Last models hardly did anything but it was there lol. The epix also definitely worked better after that first update.
Nice review, Matt. Let me ask you a nerdy question. When in alway on mode, you are biking and your hand is on the handlebar(ie. You have not raised your wrist), can you see the screen well enough? You make a good argument to get the Epix. I have been debating between that and the 7.
Eventually, I'll have both and can do a better comparison. As for biking, yes, I am able to glance over and see the display without taking my arm off the handlebar. I still prefer having a bike computer and a watch but this is a very nice option for cycling. Let me know what you end up with. Thanks John!
I got a full 5 days from epix vs much more in F7X. Expect over time for epix to become battery inefficient (iow, 3 day charge). In bright sunlight F7X outshines (visibility) epix (washed out). Epix bolts protrude above their recess (rough). I have TRUE always-on with F7X. The value is in the Fenix 7. Come at me bros‼️
I am sorry but this is not accurate at all.... I have had a Fenix 5, 6, Tactix Bravo, and Delta and I can say without a doubt that the Epix display is light years above the Fenix when outside or in any environment for that matter. By the time the Battery hits the 3 day mark in regard to efficiency, you will be upgrading or sending it in to Garmin after 3+ years. The Epix 2 if used as an everyday watch and sports watch is the best watch on the market.
I'm probably getting 5 full days as well but I'm using gps everyday and lots of notifications from my phone. I typically charge around the four day mark as I don't like to drain the full battery. I'm pretty happy with the watch overall. Have to come back to this comment in a few years if I'm experiencing any battery degradation.
hey man need a sugesstion- lookin for a watch for sole running purpose max i do is half marathon so should i go for a garmin 55 or venu 2 which is better choice for a runner given the features and price and which has a more accurate gps ?
I think the Garmin 55 is a really great option. The Venu 2 has a bit more smart features so it depends on what kind of watch you think you'd prefer. If it were me, I'd probably go for the 55. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

Thanks for a great review, Matt! I have a dilemma and I hope you can help me decide. The stocks for the Sapphire version won’t be available for about 3-4 weeks. My supplier does have the Steel version now. Will I be missing a lot if I don’t get the Sapphire? I saw that the main diff is just on the glass, memory and the Multi-band GPS. I do a bit of running in an urban setting so I thought I might need the multi-band GPS. I’d like to get your thoughts on these please.
I do typically prefer the Sapphire for durability issues but I don't think the Multi-band or memory would be a major issue. Let me know what you end up with and how you like it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hi Jay, I bought the silver cause a same problem of availbility. No regret for me, the color of steel is very beautiful, better than the black color I think, for the multi-frequence GPS, this watch stay précise with one frequence and the storage, 16Go it's no a problem if you downlaod a free map on the net, instead of Topo active europe of garmin wich does 11 Go, for the musique I'm use my phone, so sure with the sliver watch it's the top and for 100 euros less... @@williamgui5358 very valuable info man. I’ll check the stocks next week. I think a white titanium might be available. If it doesn’t look good, I’ll get the Steel
I purchased a phoenix 7 solar sapphire in January 2022 and it was fantastic... but then I saw an offer for the epix Gen 2 only a few weeks ago for £325. I just fancied getting an AMOLED screen because that's what seems to be normal nowadays in 2024.... and I have to say I have zero regrets... my biggest concern was battery life but this has been fantastic. When the Fenix 7 and epix 2 were released I couldn't afford the epix and I had to wait for the Fenix 7 solar sapphire to go onto an offer for 500 quid ....but I managed to sell my Fenix 7 for 390 quid which gave me enough money to buy this epix 2. I know it's from 2021 but it's fantastic and it was an absolute bargain.. an epic 2 for 325 quid or a phoenix 8 for 900 quid I know which one I'd rather have.
Yeah, that’s an awesome deal. I have been encouraging people to look for that watch on sale right now. It’s just such a good deal compared to what Garmin is offering currently at full price. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Not yet. Battery would be better on the Fenix and I do like solar on watches. But I don’t regret the Epix. I might get the Fenix just to compare at some point. 🤷🏻♂️

@Steven Allen i need it primarily for running that too in the urban area and no trails or hiking so was asking for a comparative among the 3 for best tracking of the run and i dont think the stand alone gps tracker would suffice 😂😂😂
Halo Matt; thank you for the video. Can you please give short feedback how it is with the DLC coated titanium bezel? Do you already have scratches? How susceptible to scratches do you rate the bezel (watch)? Unfortunately, I suspect that you can see possible scratches more clearly on the black version than on the white titanium version or even the stainless steel version. With stainless steel, you can just repair scratches, which is not possible with DLC coated titanium (according to Garmin). In return, you only get Gorilla glass in the stainless steel version, which in turn is more scratch-prone than Sapphire ;-(
I actually switched to the white version of the Epix. I currently see no scratches. I’ll double check with my buddy who has the black and has been wearing it every day. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@NadavArad - That's a really hard question for me to answer. I have a video coming up talking about a few watches in different colors and I can try to show it with a dress shirt on or something but I always think these sport watches look like sport watches and I have a different expectation for a dress watch. Lucky for me, I almost never dress up nice. 🤷🏻♂️
I had to wait a really long time for mine also. I have a link in the description of this video to the Dialed Cycling Lab. I’ll ask them how their stock is looking. Where do you need it shipped?
@Esten Sesto - You could also email the Dialed Cycling Lab and see what their wait times are. I don't get a commission but I think that discount code works. 👍
Yeah, this older video has the older Epix gen 2. The Epix Pro has the new sensor. People have been finding this watch on mega discount. So if you're not worried about ECG readings, maybe people will watch this older video and try to save some money? 🤷♂️ Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Garmin is making sooo slow steps. Make more AMOLED watches! It's 2022 and we still using MIP? Why people with small wrist don't have the chance of having a steel watch with AMOLED? Why not EPIX 2s? WHY NOT??
Great questions. But things could be worse. They could have saved the AMOLED for the 1.4 inch watch like they did for the flashlight version of the fenix 7. What can you do? 🤷🏻♂️
I'd love a million subscribers but having a smaller group that I can actually chat with is great also! Thanks so much for all of the kind words Alex!!!
Ill save you some time. The Epix screen is nice but that’s all you get over a F7X (in my case the XSS) - Tried both. IMO a Oled screen is not worth the extra $ when you can get a 7X for the same exact price with a killer battery and a flashlight (which is actually quite useful) and a bigger case size which I also love. I also didnt like the extra screen things you had to set for the epix to not be intrusive during times that you didnt want it to shine. Like I said the Epix is nice but definitely not worth the price of course in my opinion.
That’s actually really good feedback Wildman. 👏 I typically prefer those transflective displays for sports watches. So far this has been good but I’ll compare this to the Fenix also as soon as I can get one. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I would prefer this Epix over the Tactix Delta personally. And I can't think of too many use cases where you'd prefer the Taxtix. This watch has a lot of new features that Garmin is just now rolling out that wouldn't be on the Tactix. But I guess it always depends on your personal needs. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great. I’ve compared it to the Oura ring and the Apple Watch and I think it’s good. I haven’t done anything super scientific to compared the quality of sleep cycle tracking but I love looking at that data in the sleep widgets area on this watch.
@@mlegrand Thanks for the input i have sleep apnea and im looking for a sleep tracking watch with a 24/7 SPo2 reading. My candidate so far are the Withings Scanwatch, The Garmin Venu 2 Plus, The Garmin Epix 2. The only reason I did not have an Oura ring is because of the subscription and the limited service in Canada. I'm also looking forward the new Google watch coming this year. If you have any idea :)
@@JPC326 - This would be a great option. But all of these SPo2 monitors aren’t that accurate and take a big toll on battery. I returned my Oura ring for the exact same reason. So after the 3 peaks the watch was on a smartwatch mode for 2 full weeks before needing a charge, that more than the specs say. The latest firmware that came 3 weeks ago has made a big difference and it’s on gesture mode connected to Bluetooth always and Wi-Fi off. No need for screen always on cos when you look at it the screen is on
were you guys actually able to get the bands off? I lucked up and my job has a $300 off for the epix so I bought one but no way am I going to drop $50-200 on over priced garmin bands especially when I already have a ton of 22mm bands

@@marchuls6211 Thanks for responses. My knowledge of batteries isn’t great but is it advantageous to let it fully run out before recharging to maximise battery efficiency long term or doesn’t it matter with the type of batteries used here? Thanks
@@texaspete7748 - They are lithium ion batteries. Technically, the batteries should get more 'cycles' if you didn't charge them up to 100% every time (maybe 80%) but in practice that might not be practical. Maybe avoiding excessive heat. Basically any traditional tricks for preserving LiOn batteries would help. 🤷♂️ Best of luck with the purchase and let me know how it goes!
Fenix 2, 5, Fenix 5X plus owner.loves this watch but the great new features with Fenix 7 line up would make me upgrade for 7x or Epix. I always been a big fan of the topo maps capability but the pan/zoom is a real pain especially when you missed a turn and need to navigate back on track in trail running or hiking. The touch screen on both watches is a game changer. I can complete full distance IRONMAN even with the Epix so if I tweak a bit the settings, hard user of maps, so I tend to be more interested by the brighter AMOLED screen of the Epix with the same rugged form factor of a Fenix Sapphire. The price is a big deal but that’s what I’m wearing everyday and training every weeks. On that regard my car is a far worse investment. Awesome videos like as usual. The way you film and introduce the products is mind blowing. 👍
I think about that a lot as well. I spend far more time with my computer for work stuff than in my car but I still don't know if that's a fair comparison. The truth is, this is an expensive watch. It's an excellent option but it's hard for me say if the watch is worth the price to each individual. Either way, you'll have to let me know what you end up going with. Garmin has an impressive line up at the moment. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I say hold on as long as possible. You’re getting good value at of that 5x!!! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
You don't mention the kilometers you do on road bike and the battery results. I ask cause i do brevets and i want to know about battery life. No one mention it on youtube. Thanks.
Here's some battery life results based on hours or days. These seem accurate to me but I haven't done any GPS events over 9 hours with this watch. Smartwatch: Up to 16 days (6 days always-on) Battery Saver Watch Mode: Up to 21 days GPS Only: Up to 42 hours (30 hours always-on ) All Satellite Systems: Up to 32 hours (24 hours always-on) Sapphire Editions: All Satellite Systems + Multi-band: Up to 20 hours (15 hours always-on) All Satellite Systems + Music: Up to 10 hours (9 hours always-on) Max Battery GPS: Up to 75 hours Expedition GPS: Up to 14 days
@@Panagiotis-Skordilis - Very possible that I miss understood. The watch battery doesn't deplete as it goes further in distance but is more based on time. For example, if you biked 100 miles in 5 hours the watch might deplete 25% or if you biked 50 miles in 5 hours we'd expect it to deplete about the same amount. Hope this helps and thanks again for watching!
Same thinking, I’m going to assume the gps battery rating is for gps only, not picking up sensors. Run sensors and looking at the odd map page is one thing, hiking with no sensors looking occasionally at a map - these are not comparable with battery use for a bike; sensors and usually, constant map. I’m also worried about the amoled display burn / degradation over time (even if a few years) for the price of each unit you’d want it to last several more years
Nice review. Epix 2 sounds great but it's way overpriced. For $1,000 it really should have LTE and a microphone and do voice assistant. Garmin offers this on some of their other watches. Why not put it on their premium watch. If you're going to compete with Apple as a smart watch and not just as a sports watch those features are a must IMO. Other than that it looks like a fantastic watch but really should be more like $750-$800 like the Apple Ultra. Just my 2 cents.
I would love to see a price drop on this device. I wonder if Garmin is feeling a bit of pressure from the new AW Ultra. Maybe we'll see some deals around the holiday shopping season? 🤷♂️
I may be the oddball, but I never used my LTE or mic/speaker on my watches, except for the initial novelty. If I am to use the phone, I will have buds on anyway or actually be on my phone.
Is it just me or does anyone also feel that AMOLED screen makes the watch makes less traditional watch? I have AW S7 and Fenix 6 sapphire and honestly one of the reasons why I wear Fenix because it looks less smartwatch Btw, great content as usual! I might upgrade to Fenix 7 titanium next year!
Yeah, I agree the AMOLED style screen is very bright and out there. Very much a smart watch vibe. It’s nice when you need it but it’s bright. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
May I ask what your wrist size? I’m a bit worried of the size and you can’t really fit these watches around? My wrist is 18cm and is a bit small I’m afraid..
Hey Bob, Yeah, I always joke around about my wrists being small. they're more like 17-18cm. I think there are a few clips of me wearing the watch in this video so you can get a feel for what it might look like on your wrists. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Pricing $1000 a disposable product with a disposable battery, that will be obsolete in 2 years, goes beyond my understanding. You can do so much with $1000.
I don’t disagree. For $200 you can get a watch that does 95% of what this one does. But I guess everyone gets to make that call of how much they value these extra features. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I see where your going with the comment, but I expect to get every bit of 5 years of daily enjoyment out of mine. I also have it configured to absolutely sip on the battery, with touch to wake only and using the lower GPS settings. Screen is bright as all get out and never use it above 2/3 brightness. @RM
Ya I have to agree, it's a lot of cash for 3 years worth of e-waste. My new Macbook Air cost the same and it's got a 13 INCH screen, not 1.3", so much for the argument the Epix screen is worth the added $!

How's the battery life?
What happens when the battery dies and can no longer hold a charge in 5-6 years? We all know that non-replaceable battery won't last forever.

Thanks for mentioning the watch pins ! That ended up being kind of an issue for me with my Epix, I had to get them cut off at a Watch shop so that I could put regular spring pins in and use my collection of vinyl straps, instead of having to buy all new very limited availability quick release straps.
No problem Michael! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

AMOLED screens suck battery -so probably also having the screen awake all the time rather than allowing it to sit in a low power mode or off.
Agreed. The Epix is for casual (couch) "athletes." Serious athletes get the Fenix 7.
Thanks absolutley great feedback.
Is golf really a workout tho?

Battery can be changed but then again I ptobably want the Epix 4 at that time 😬
Thats exactly my opinion. As a Fenix 5 owner, after 4 years I did not noticed huge battery drain. I still charge my watch every 2 weeks 😊. I think Epix after 2 years will be big pain in your eyes for 1.000€. Battery life and dead pixels.

Are the gestures on this watch enabled out of the box or do we manually have to enable it? Also, how do you enable gestures on the watch?
Out of the box the watch will be in always on mode and the ‘raise to wake’ makes the screen brighter. You can switch it screen off with ‘raise to wake’ turning the screen on. Everyone complains about battery life of 6 days...Leave your Apple watch 7 off of the charger for a day, and come talk to me...Lmao
I’ve got an Apple Watch on now and guess what, it’s almost dead. 🤦♂️
I wish they develop and release ECG features on the HRM strap.
Yeah, that would be interesting to see. What’s nice about ECG on your watch is testing *when you start feeling something abnormal. I’m not sure how helpful all of the normal ECG readings are. And I don’t always wear a chest strap.
Any issues with sweat affecting the touch screen?
I haven’t noticed anything yet. I’ve also been using it in the rain and it’s not perfect but it does work.
Excellent video like always! i loved it! what do you think about the new instinct 2?
I haven’t tested one yet. Seems very interesting and there is a triathlon mode so I really should get my hands one one.
@@mlegrand No, just crawl. Almost every day for about 2 months with Epix 2, and never had the real result ..
absolutely love my epix saphire...
So how do you like the Epix so far?? Content or want to try the Fenix 7?

Matt - Did you ever end up doing a 100-day review? If not, what are your thoughts on the Epix now? Thanks!

It must feel weird for Apple, not being the premium price point for a product 😆
That button thing seems off to me. Good call!

Ha!!! Great feedback on the two! I’m going to try to get the Fenix to compare. 💥
@@sey5008 you’re new around these parts eh? - only 3 hrs on the tube? “Not accurate” - go check yourself 😵💫🤯

My supplier does have the Steel version now. Will I be missing a lot if I don’t get the Sapphire? I saw that the main diff is just on the glass, memory and the Multi-band GPS. I do a bit of running in an urban setting so I thought I might need the multi-band GPS.

Hi 👋 any regrets choosing the epix over the fenix?
Not yet. Battery would be better on the Fenix and I do like solar on watches. But I don’t regret the Epix. I might get the Fenix just to compare at some point. 🤷🏻♂️
@Matt LeGrand what do u suggest which gps watch would be best for running with most accurate gps at 200$ garmin 55, coros pace 2, a polar or any other very confused to make a choice But GPS ACCURACY is prime importance so whats ur suggestion??
I like the 55 I’d you’re primarily running. If you’re doing any triathlon stuff the Coros Pace 2 is an excellent option for the price.

Hi, should I buy this or the Tactix Delta?
I would prefer this Epix over the Tactix Delta personally. And I can't think of too many use cases where you'd prefer the Taxtix. @@mlegrand thanks but probably you don't understand my question.
@@mlegrand hmmm yes I've got your point. With 6x series plus ant sensors (cadence,hr,speed) i loose for 100km about 15%. Thanks again.
Same thinking, I’m going to assume the gps battery rating is for gps only, not picking up sensors. Run sensors and looking at the odd map page is one thing, hiking with no sensors looking occasionally at a map - these are not comparable with battery use for a bike; sensors and usually, constant map. I’m also worried about the amoled display burn / degradation over time (even if a few years) for the price of each unit you’d want it to last several more years
Nothing like a watch with good glancibility

@RM
@@fendermon it's a beautiful sports watch, and I wish you to enjoy it as much as possible!
@@RunnerRemRem Thanks :)
Ya I have to agree, it's a lot of cash for 3 years worth of e-waste. My new Macbook Air cost the same and it's got a 13 INCH screen, not 1.3", so much for the argument the Epix screen is worth the added $!
This watch doesn't do multi sport right??
Yes, it does pretty much everything the 955 does. You're welcome to check out mine any time if you want.
This intro is some movie stuff!
Wow, thank you so much Aasim! Super nice of you to say. More fun stuff coming soon. 👌
