"This would not be considered a high carbohydrate plate as most of the calories come from the salmon, the protein portion. It fits well into any low calorie meal plan.
Variety, balance and moderation are all key to good health and nutrition. This is also true for anyone losing weight and wanting to keep it off. Research has shown that the diet that works best is the one that the individual can follow, provided it’s adequate in nutrition." Hope this helps!

@ladykikyo08 There is a lot of food, but not a lot of calories: 2 cups of veggies = 80 calories. 4 oz. of salmon = 200 calories. 56 oz. of potato = 120 calories. Total calories = 400.
When we eat high volume, low calorie food, we tend to get full and consume fewer calories overall. Compare that to one blueberry muffin at Starbucks (470 calories) or a slice of Costco pizza (about 800 calories)!
    Hope this helps!

1/2 the plate, make it the main thing (meat, beans, fish, tofu, whatever)
    1/4 Veggies
1/4 fruit or salad or something

@peazlove247 ...Then one cup of food (roughly the size of your fist) would be about 400-500 calories. If it’s leaner like spaghetti marinara then one cup would be about 300 calories.
How many calories do you need? To make a quick calculation just figure 10 calories for each pound of body weight. So if you weighed 130 you would need 1300 calories for the day. If you weigh 200, then you would need 2000 calories a day.

@indecisivedecisive (continued)... "The point is to cut back on foods that are high in sugar and fat and to limit beverages that are high in sugar and to limit real fruit juice to 6 oz. a day."
    Hope this helps!

Hi PickYourVenom, thanks for your comment! Here's some info from our registered dietitian, Candy Cumming: "Yes, we all need to lay off the white stuff (as in white flour, sugar and products made with them). Without a doubt, these are all stripped of nutrition.
When you take a closer look at the plate, you’ll find salmon and lots of vegetables, providing a plateful of a wonderful array of nutrients and phytochemicals. The plateful is only about 400 calories yet is very nutritious and filling."

if you're a cardio machine you NEVER have to think about portion control. just educate yourself on nutrition and re-condition your body so it doesn't have the cravings which you have put there (bad fats, excessive sugar and salt, and alcohol). it takes discipline, but like regular exercise, you eventually come to a place where both the exercise and healthy eating are something to look forward to.

When it comes to one-dish meals, portion size (and so calorie control) is a little more tricky. If there’s salad or a steamed vegetable (hopefully not loaded with dressing), put it on your plate with your one-dish item. This enables you to take a smaller portion while keeping your plate full. Really look at your one dish item. Is it fatty as in cheesy, gravied, fried, or creamy as in lasagna, fettucine alfredo or sweet and sour pork?

@@vvelvettearssI’m 4 years late, but for example if you’re going to eat a bowl of rice nooodles and stuff, that’s just a single dish you don’t really get to separate the plate
