    Coming from a Baptist background, tongues was not preached- I never gave it any attention. I recall a time when I diligently sought the Lord (this was prior to a Believer prophesied that " by me many will be saved." I walked away thinking... "I don't know how that's going to happen." While at a Ladies conference- I heard a word that resonated in my spirit.. I found myself on the floor and my body shaking. I didn't know what happened. Someone told me " your life will never be the same" while driving home I started speaking in tongues.
    After joining Assembly of God church, I learned about the Indwelling and Infilling of Holy Ghost- happened on separate occasions as in the Scriptures. I began to witness for the Lord with boldness.

      *Ya I have a friend who was not just Baptist but ULTRA Baptist. He was filled with the Spirit in his backyard. In fact, throughout High School he defended the Baptist position but evidently was secretly seeking that matter out privately. We were all still living with our parents after High School and one afternoon there was a knock on my bedroom door. I said 'Come in' and he walked in and I did a double take. His face looked different. I knew what happened. He didn't have to tell me. He said 'Guess what' and I said 'I know what. Its all over your face.' Lol. He explained to me how it happened. He was given the boot from his local Baptist church essentially. Same church he grew up in and his whole family went to.*

      Acts 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. 8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

    I am sick of people saying that Mark 16:9-20 wasn't originally in the Bible. The early church fathers (from as early as the 2nd century A.D.) quoted the verses well before the time of the oldest manuscripts we have that have the passage missing.
    P.S. The inclusion of Mark 16:9-20 was never questioned until modern times.

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek  3 роки тому +5

      Agreed. If you look closely at the commentary Allen was referencing, he misrepresented what it said. It said "the most ancient manuscripts". It didn't say "most of the ancient manuscripts". In other words two of the oldest manuscripts left out the long ending, but the rest included it.

      Yeah, and it's also worth to mention that all copies of the Syriac Peshitta, the Aramaic/Syriac translation of the Bible, whose origins can be traced to earlier than both the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, include the long ending, which would point to the historical existence of Greek manuscripts, earlier than the Sinaiticus and Vaticanus, that included the long ending, but are now lost.

      @@danielrodriguesaoe thank you for adding this info, it is good to know...the reason I responded to the first msg was because of the very nonsensical remark about it being supernatural and thus the reason most are against it...obviously that is just silly as most bibles have a footnote with regards to these verses...the reason some are skeptical is because there is this grey area of not actually knowing if its suppose to be there, as well as what most observe in real time. I do have to agree with the 'most' group that the focus on tongues is a bit much, it should not be such a divisive subject, it really is not a salvation issue

    I find too much intellectualism in the so called “prophets” and “apologetics”. It’s getting too much out of understanding the word of God. There is no humility among these folks.
    What happened to reading the Bible and asking the Holy Spirit for wisdom. Didn’t Jesus say if we lack wisdom to ask him? These people needs to repent. Allen is doubtful of healing, Marcus is just adding his own twist to things because he lacks understanding and he is not humble to ask for help. It’s like the blind leading the blind.
    I don’t see any of these folks trying to win souls for God with the platform they have. It’s all about providing “who is right and expose who is wrong”.
    What happened to reading the Bible without others in your ear except God’s? They are not making the the Christian walk easy for new Christians

And by the way, concerning Rom 8:26, the morning after I got saved and received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues, the enemy attacked my mind, with a ferocious argument that I had had a nice experience, but I would get over it. In desperation, I opened my Bible, looked down, and there was Romans 8:26. The revelation to me was a confirmation of what I had received, and then I spoke in tongues for the next several hours. Years later, I had professors and others try to convince me I was taking that verse out of context. No I wasn't, and I love your hermeneutic on it. God bless you.

      It's an unfortunate fact that the Pentecostal movement has a history of being attacked by theologians, so over time there developed an anti-theology sentiment among Pentecostals and Charismatics. Slowly but surely that is changing, and people are discovering that tongue talkers can do theology and apologetics. Hopefully we'll see more and more Pentecostal commentaries produced in the future.

    As for 13:38, this reminds me of a true story my mother once told me about: in the city where we used to live, an Assemblies of God pastor and his wife once made a visit to someone who happened to be involved with some sort of witchcraft. This person poisoned the water given to the pastor and his wife in order to kill them, yet they drank the water and didn't die at all. I don't recall all of the details of the story by head, but I believe this person converted later on. So, yeah, this passage is surely authentic and surely still applies for today!

      There are several applications for the gift of tongues. It can be used in devotion to edify the believer, or it can be manifested as a sign gift as occurred on the day of Pentecost, or it can be used in worship, or it can be used in intercessory prayer. • @deehall7371
      @deehall7371 3 роки тому +2

      @@SpontaneousAbstraction No, there is a difference between the infilling and in dwelling of the Holy Spirit. The disciples received the Holy Spirit at the end of the book of John when Christ breathed on them and said, "receive the Holy Ghost". But Christ still tells them to wait in Jerusalem for the power or infilling of the Holy Ghost to come upon them. He tells them once they receive the infilling they will receive power to witness him (Acts 1:8). This is clearly a different experience than the indwelling that comes when ever someone believes.
      The evidence that someone is a believer and has the indwelling presence the Holy Ghost is the fruit of the Spirit found in Galatians 5. But the evidence that they are filled with the Holy Ghost is speaking in tongues Acts 2:4. Another example of this is in Acts when Philip preaches in Samaria. When Philip preaches the Samarians accept Jesus and believe. They get the indwelling. But when peter and john come to samaria it is obvious they have not received the baptism or infilling. So peter and John lay hands on them and they receive the infilling and speak in tongues.
      Also important to note that there is a difference between tounges as a prayer language and tongues as a sign gift. Not everyone speaks in tongues as a sign gift. But everyone can as a prayer language. God bless.

    Spiritual gifts should be recognized and understood to be members of the body of Christ. And the gifts that each member is given as a matter of the grace of Christ Eph Ch 4.
    The gifts that are given cause each member to differ from the other members, that is the nature of a body.
    Apostles, prophets and teachers are members of the body but so are those with gifts of healings, working of miracles, divers kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues etc.
    Therefore, if the gift of tongues is taken away the body is crippled. The same can be said of the gifts of healings, the working of miracles or any other member.
    Some would have us all to settle for a few members that meet their approval and reject the rest based on faulty doctrines.
    Should we no longer desire spiritual gifts even though the word that is left for us commands us to do so?
    Why desire the cessation of members of the body?
    Cease with that! Have faith in God, seek to edify with words of comfort and exhortation.
    Cessation is simply unbelief. Be glad that there are all the gifts in the body, though not having seen yet believe. 'Cause you ain't seen nothin' yet. Grace and Peace!

    Hey Rod ditto on your commentary!👍
    Just wanted to add “my take” on
    1 Corinthians 12:27-30
    God introduced in the church age- apostles, prophets, evangelist, pastors, teachers who were given as an example to future believers of what they can be if they desired to be in that office.
    But Paul now asked “Are all apostles, are all evangelists, are all pastors and teachers?”
    The answer is No!
    But can they be? Yes!
    Reading from Paul’s prayer to the Ephesians 1:16-20
    Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers;
    That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, MAY GIVE UNTO YOU the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him:
    The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; THAT YE MAY KNOW WHAT IS THE HOPE OF HIS CALLING, and what the riches of the glory of HIS INHERITANCE in the saints
    And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power,
    Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places.
    Also …
    1 Corinthians 2:12
    Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know THE THINGS THAT ARE FREELY GIVEN UNTO US of God.
    Romans 12:6 states….
    Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy ACCORDING TO THE PROPORTION OF FAITH;
    I hope that it may help some who may have looked at this as a difficult passage to suggest that God limits us from what we desire to be.

    The point is... of all the text you refer to in this video, none of them say: " That all Christians speak or pray in tongues! Nowhere in the entire New Testament does scripture say that tongues,, is the evidence that a Christian has received, the baptism of the Holy Spirit! We do however, find that scripture does say that not all Christians speak or pray in tongues! I Corinthians. 12:1-30 , and what the "Baptism Of The Holy Spirit actually is!
    For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
    1 Corinthians 12:13
    In this chapter the Apostle Paul makes the comparison between the human physical body, and the body of Christ, and he points out that if the physical body were made of just hands,feet, or eyes, there would be no physical human body, so likewise if all christians spoke with tongues, there would be "no body of Christ!
    12:12-19, 20-28 which is exactly why the Apostle Paul concludes in light of what he previously said, by asking these rhetorical questions in vs 30. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Do all have gifts of healings? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret?
    I Corinthians 12:29‭-‬30 The answer to the questions is obviously "NO" every single time!
    This video is a classic example of when someone reads their theological biases; ie (" Pentecostal Theology" ) , into a text!
    biblical exegesis, the opposite of exegesis (to draw out) is eisegesis (to draw in), in the sense of an eisegetic commentator "importing" or "drawing in" his or her own purely subjective interpretations into the text, unsupported by the text itself. Eisegesis is often used as a derogatory term.
    This is without question one the worst examples of" Eisegesis", I have ever seen! What you acused Allen Parr of doing, you are guilty of doing yourself!

    • @JewandGreek
      @JewandGreek  3 роки тому +2

      I covered 1st Corinthians 12:30 in my follow-up video. It's not talking about speaking in tongues as a prayer language as in Chapter 14 verse 2. It's talking about the ministry gift of tongues with interpretation along with Apostles teachers and Prophets. If you refer to that verse as proof that not all speak in tongues as a prayer language then you're the one taking the verse out of its setting.

    • @contendforthefaithbysamuel4546
      @contendforthefaithbysamuel4546 3 роки тому

      Again whether a Christian is speaking in tongues to men or praying in tongues to God, is still the use of the same gift, which the Apostle Paul has previously said, that the Holy Spirit "does not give to every christian!
      But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.
      I Corinthians 12:11
      But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. And if they were all one member, where would the body be?
      I Corinthians 12:18‭-‬19
      Nowhere in chapter's 12 - 14 does the Apostle Paul make any such distinction as a "ministry tongues", and a "praying tongues", as you and Pentecostals make, rather it is clear that throughout these chapters, he is talking about the same gift of tongues!
      But now, brethren, if I come to you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either by revelation, by knowledge, by prophesying, or by teaching?
      I Corinthians 14:6
      Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.
      I Corinthians 14:13‭-‬14
      The implication is impossible to miss! Nowhere in I. Corinthians. Chapter's 12 -14, or anywhere in the the entire New Testament does scripture say, that "all christians pray or speak in tongues! Which is exactly why it is so obviously clear that the doctrine of " Tongues being the evidence of " The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit " for christians, lacks any scriptural merit whatsoever, and is completely "unbiblical!
      For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free-and have all been made to drink into one Spirit.
      I Corinthians 12:13
      Which is exactly why this video is a classic example of "Eisegesis":
      the opposite of exegesis (to draw out) is eisegesis (to draw in), in the sense of an eisegetic commentator "importing" or "drawing in" his or her own purely subjective interpretations into the text, unsupported by the text itself!
