While I have no problem with MacArthur's lifestyle per se, it does seem to be inconsistent with his anti-prosperity message. The word Christian means follower of Jesus Christ and He dispensed a gospel for the gentile nations through Apostle Paul. Martin Luther discovered, that this gospel contains not call for works to prove our faith for salvation, as contrary the gospel for the Jews under the law of Moses. Calvinism stands firm on predestination, which means, that we are either chosen for salvation or not by God, and we can do nothing either way. That is not gospel at all! Imagine that such a man even says about himself, that he spends his time defending the true gospel of the Bible against the prosperity preachers, but he essentially preach predestination and works, and also Lordship Salvation, which essentially is the "gospel" of the Catholic church, meaning we earn our standing by bending down to our elders in the church. Do I need to say, neither predestination, being chosen for salvation or church membership as a road to salvation is mentioned in the Bible! By the way, John Calvin did not base his doctrine on the Bible alone, or at all in many cases. Just like the Catholic church, that he were first a munk in for many years, he based his doctrines and advocated for humanism, which in the understanding of that time were to incorporate Pagan wisdom into Christianity. In the case of John Calvin he were hugely fascinated by the Greek philosophers, that absolutely all were Pagans, some of them extremely vile sinners, as Sokrates essentially confessing to be a homosexual pederast, and by the way do the Bible actually warn against the philosophy and superstition of the Greeks before Christianity.
They can dish out slander but can’t take a little truth. Interesting.
I actually watched this interview because I was listening to John MacArthur occassionally, and it was the day I unsubscribed to J. Peter's simply because I thought he was sucking up to the MacArthur ministry. It was obvious J. Peter's was worshipping at the throne of MacArthur.

I started watching an interview with JM, presented by JP. this was a month or so ago, right after a wave of videos about the Eileen Gray excommunication.
Peters completely did not address the incident or JM's handling if it. He just talked about how long he was in ministry, and how dependable and innocent he is. I'm not sure the exact wording, but he was predefending JM and ignoring the current very serious issue.
I therefore didn't watch the interview itself, this guy is a rat. He deserted anyone in his flock who needed his help. Who would trust him after what he did to Eileen Gray.

The way Justin Peters is shaking his head in agreement with those understanding eyes is such a gas light! A family vacation home and a getaway home to write is PURE luxury. It really is insulting to the intelligence to try and convince us its not. I do think these people selling prayer cloths and other gimmicks are a wrong way to "prosper" off of the gospel but don't point fingers at people who are earning just like you just because you disagree with their doctrine.
This reminds me of someone else who is currently in the news who went to Bangkok for months to supposedly write.

Using your logic it is safe to say they shouldn't judge others in ministry based on what they have. They dont know how much was paid for what they have or if they were gifted these items or properties.
A year later John macarthur is called to repent for yet another Roys report. Such a sad situation, I am so glad to see that the Lord helped Aileen so well.
When Joel Osteen or some charismatic preacher has quite a large income, then there's a problem. But if its Johnny Mac, then it's ok

Being wealthy is not a sin. Teaching the prosperity gospel is a sin and in direct opposition to Jesus’ teachings. These are 2 totally different things.
There is no Prosperity Gospel. There is the gospel, and then there is prosperity theology. The critics blend the two so that they can condemn people they disagree with. This is despicable in my opinion. Prosperity is All Through the Bible. That is indisputable. So instead of sitting down like adults and discussing what the Bible says, we end up with one camp condemning the other camp rather than the two camps coming together to further the kingdom of God.

@@agnesr.4664 if we want to know if it is Jesus then we look to what he did when he walked on the earth. He is the same Jesus with the same character. If things line up with his character then all good. If they don't then it is not him and we need to avoid. Be blessed.
I do agree what he does is bad, however, I don’t believe the unforgivable sin is possible today, because my friend is so spiritually mature, believes in gifts and loves Jesus so much and he used to be one of those people.

I believe it is straight-up deceit for Phil to claim he makes these judgments based on lifestyle. What does Phil actually know, really, about the lifestyle of those he slanders? The truth? If a leader holds to virtually any element of theology underscoring Biblical teaching on prosperity, John, Justin, and Phil consider this license to accuse any such person of perverting the gospel with monetary greed. THIS is why they accuse with a sense of entitlement and impunity, not any objective analysis of a lifestyle.
Umm slander means you are saying something that is not true against someone else. Though Mac preaches against prosperity gospel (which is void of the cross and claims that God wants you healthy wealthy and happy while taking the last dollar of little old ladies because of the “sow a seed” crap) slander would be that those things he is saying is untrue. That’s not the case, they are guilty of that message. Mac does not take little old ladies last Dollars playing off their feelings and desperation.

One can hold to prosperity theology and still have a soteriology that is mainstream evangelical. As for taking money from little old ladies (or men, or anybody else), how do you know the financial condition of everybody who has donated to Johnny Mac or any other minister? You don't.

spot on video.... my observation over the years is that often reformed guys defend reformed guys... this is, i believe, the heart of the issue most of the time... simply on the basis that they are fellow calvinists, they are defending each other.... reformed theology seems to be the deciding factor most of the time... they may criticize each other on some minor theological point, but as long as you are "reformed", you will never be called a heretic that is leading people to hell... of course, that's a broad brush, and will not apply in all cases... thanks, God bless... :-))

True, Having stuff doesn't make one a lover of money. Here we see Jmac accusing others of "Having stuff" while he also "Has stuff." Very telling of his blind presumption. How does he know the ministers he accuses don't also give large to God's work?

The mark of the beast can not be taken in ignorance.
It is not a MARK that is the issue - the taking of THE mark comes with worship of the beast.
I don't even object to the criticism of doctrinal issues. We need to do this, and should. But to just completely trash everything about someone or apply more than gently poking fun. Ridicule is best demonstrated on those who use it themselves for the sole purpose of deterrence in my opinion.
Rod, this gave me some new information about a couple ministries that I didn't know.
I appreciate that, and I think it just shows that we need to be less quick to rush to sentencing someone.
Judgement I have no problem with, because I don't conflate it with sentencing/condemnation and never have.
Judgement determines whether we err or not. It's during the sentencing phase of a trial that the person's degree of knowledge, intent, and other factors are weighed.
In Christianity we always offer a plea deal. It's known as repentance, and only after it's rejected a couple times is an opinionative person (the meaning of the word "heretic") to be left alone.
Of course, we must have absolute knowledge of their guilt as well, not just gossip, and I think this video does a fine job of showing how easily the devil can mislead us.
I have to say, while I don't always agree with your conclusions, I have immense respect for your methodology, and sense of fair play.

The hypocrisy of these heretic hunters knows no boundaries. It is obvious that they are not offended by prosperity. Their real offense is any real move of the Holy Spirit. They just use prosperity as an excuse to go after other doctrines like healing, speaking in tounges, Word of knowledge, or any other event that involves a supernatural move of the Holy Spirit. That is the thing that really offends them. At least this has been my experience.

John macarthur still believes u can take the mark of the beast and still be saved, about 10 years back someone asked Phil to ask Mr MacArthur does he believe you can still take the mark of the beast and still be redeemed and Phil put out a statement that Macarthur still stands on what he said in the 70's that if you take the mark u still can be saved.
There is something wrong with a preacher/pastor who has 3 homes, a multi-millionaire as a CHRISTIAN, esp. when he rails against the lifestyles of the Word of Faith preachers. Millions more could be given to help the poor, vulnerable, etc. THAT is referred to multiple times in the Bible. Acts 2 & 4 shows the church doing just that. The second century church (though starting to go off-base) does continue this New Testament practice.

I almost came to the conclusion that gcc and MacArthur would never apologize for anything, I was wrong they were eventually forced to give credit to an author for a chapter in one of their books that was apparently stolen,.
They denied it but years later blamed it basically on a clerical mistake, and did a half apologize, not for their false statements before but for a clerical mistake, which was basically not because of them.

Once again, Rod, you cover the topic well from an angle I have not seen from others. One interesting fact that is not brought out in the video, though, is when Phil Johnson brags about MacArthur's joy in turning down the ability to receive a dime for each sermon broadcast, he fails to reveal that for MacArthur have received it would be a violation of IRS rules; it's not actually a sacrifice on anyone's part. Anyway, I think this is not going away anytime soon. We'll see.

Yet John Maccarthurs supporters still keep defending him, I do not see how they cannot see that Phil is not being honest in this interview. The teaching on the taking the mark of the beast,alone, makes these men false teachers. I have tried to warn his followers and they say that I do not know how to read the bible,and have called me a liar,for saying exactly what the scriptures say, that those who take the mark will have their part in the lake of fire with Satan. And they have all said that John and Phil say that it is a forgiveable sin. They are trusting man over Gods word. Even a third grader could read those verses,and know that if they take it,it will damn them to hell.

We all sin because we have a fallen nature but the Bible teaches in the King James Bible...James 3:1 "My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation." In other words, teachers, preachers, etc. will be held more accountable by the Lord if they teach false doctrine and are not of good example to their listeners.

It does not matter who comments differently than the book of Daniel whether John MacArthur or another preacher what they are saying is not the truth and what the Bible states.

It is very sad to see those who attack another group in such a vicious way, even though reproval should be given Out in many of these situation’s. For years I have viewed Justin peters, Rob Johnson, and Todd Friel as nothing more than puppets to John MacArthur. I asked myself do these men not know that they are going to stand before Almighty God and give an account for what they are doing? I appreciate how Rod has handled dealing with the situation, even though I disagree with some of the things that he has stated. As we know Jesus said in Matthew chapter 6 versus 19 through 21 that we are not to lay up treasures on earth… And then he goes on to say that where our treasure is there will our heart be also. It does not matter if it is Kenneth Copeland, Joel Osteen, or John MacArthur, It does not matter if you are charismatic, Pentecostal, or Presbyterian, this is an actual command from our Lord and it does not matter who you are or what geographical area you live in. Our culture has so influenced our life and even the life of those who are in the pulpit, that we can see greed on every hand in the world and the church. I guess John MacArthur thought he would get him a piece of the American gospel just to see what it taste like. Enough said.

Phil Johnson, never heard of this guy but talk about being out of touch of reality and this reformed movement creative a golden calf out of John McArthur. Just like prosperity sells so does harsh and strong takes as we see with McArthur and the reformed movement.
The dude interviewing Phil was basically a McArthur fan boy. Talk about taking verses out of context. Their aint nobody there to sing his praise. People want clarification on his positions biblical and personal. Him sending his water boy out iron out his dirty laundry only speaks volumes to what a celebrity pastor, mega church culture he probably has but preaches against.

The truth is he earns over $500K a year from multiple revenue streams and owns three houses, and yet he condemns Joel Osteen who hasn't taken a salary since 2005. Another truth is he teaches unbiblical doctrines like Lordship Salvation and Limited Atonement.

Charismatics agree with everyone that the Bible does not forbid anyone of being rich. So if the main point here is John having a lifestyle that resembles those who they criticize of making money off the gospel is invalid.
I think it depends on how "lifestyle" is defined as lived out by the person.
Is it a rich lifestyle that is ligitimately and faithfully earned by hard work in a salary that is not demanded or one that is gained out of the person's preference of first class treatment ala John Bevere, or the preaching that healing and prosperity is guaranteed on the cross that there are ways to "unlock" them through "seed faith money" or through obedience to Christ, especially through tithes that by not regularly giving tithes actually is robbing of God, or the selling of self-help materials by church leaders which tells believers that there are ways or secrets to discovering a prosperous life in living out their Christian life?
I'm not defending John Mac, I just think there has to be a better argument when doing videos on this particular issue for their happy viewing that should give them a serious check.

Please know that you can tell the truth about someone and still be slandering them. Slander is not always false. It can be telling the truth about someone that is shameful or embarrassing before you talk to them about it, or to someone who has no authority to solve the issue that you’re bringing up.

honestly i have no problem with Macarthur having three houses or making millions of dollars as an author, sorry but no, i do have a problem with all that. Thank you for this great video. It exposes a side of MacArthur which is dark, no doubts.
I would like to believe that you could repent for taking the mark. Not for myself because I won’t take it, but I have a whole family that is unsaved including children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lord have mercy on them. But I thank you very much for your exposition and generally agree with you.

MacArthur preaches A LOT of unbiblical things, some are good & biblical, but so much is not. He only preaches what he personally believes, not the whole counsel of God!!! Furthermore, MacArthur seems to be a tad arrogant. He is articulate, and well spoken, but unfortunately unbiblical in the doctrines he preaches.
You’re logic is off. Two people can have the exact same luxuries and it is possible one be a lover of money and one not be. Having nice things doesn’t equal lover of money.
Prosperity preachers solicit money from people in order to “sow a seed” and other bible passages taken out context and full blown heresy. Things which you cannot accuse McArthur of.
John MacArthur has condemned Joel Osteen and Osteen takes no salary but John MacArthur has taken two or three salaries in addition to his book royalties. My logic is not off there. MacArthur employs a double standard when it comes to Joel Osteen.
@@JewandGreek Yes it is. You’re throwing out there teaching with it. Which Joel Osteen himself considers himself more of a motivational speaker than a preacher. Not to mention the heresy he teaches and shear ignorance of how to teach the Bible. JMac has solid teaching and the life to back it. I’m saying to you though that two people can have the exact same things and one have it in faith (Job) and the other be a lover of money. So material things aren’t the factor of how to judge but the heart disposition is. They best way to know that is actions and words and the words of prosperity preachers speak for themselves as well as their actions.
@@larrymillikan3969 Joel Osteen affirms all of the essentials of the faith and therefore is not a heretic. John MacArthur teaches lordship salvation which is borderline works based salvation. He also teaches limited atonement and the doctrines of Grace, which come from Augustinian Platonism. MacArthur's theology is much more problematic than Osteen's.
